Is your console on 9.5 or inferior? Also do you have a NAND dump from your console on a lower firmware? If not you can't downgrade.

I've done so before. I'm not sure whether or not rxRools Dev Mode works with emuNAND, but if it does then use that. And make a backup of your emuNAND partition before updating so you can restore it if it doesn't work.

2DS does support lower firmwares than 6.0, in terms of relevant hardware it's identical to an O3DS. Worst that can happen in that case is if you downgrade below 6.0 and then do a system format, it'll be impossible to get past the system setup as it won't be able to do the 3D slider setup.

It's not a simple matter of "creating the files". There's layers of security and checks that need to be bypassed. Before the eShop spoof there weren't as many, but Nintendo apparently stepped up their game to keep the kickass homebrew out.

The developers of it added code to brick consoles that activates when their launchers are used with clone carts, to prevent clone manufacturers from stealing their work. With an old beta release they fucked up the brick code and it activated for a few Gateway owners too.

They're functionally the same, but since DSTwo is just copying Gateway's work, better to go with the original. They both work with any N3DS on 9.2 or below, DSTwo presumably works on higher firmwares but only for DS games, no 3DS.

A proper exploit has to be found. Many believe that smea has such an exploit but won't release it since he's incredibly anti-piracy.
Once the exploit has been found and released, someone has to determine what to change and how to change it to allow eshop access, then run some tests, fix, and release that.
It's not as simple as opening your favorite hacking software, right clicking, and telling it to access eshop.

Because their competitors are using their software without properly modifying it. It's their way of insuring that their work isn't used by them.
The same thing happened with other Gateway clones a while back, and people weren't happy.

At the moment, Gateway. Unfortunately, if your firmware is low enough to use it, you can just use CFW for free and get the same experience.
DSTwo+ could potentially get better, but they're going to have to work on their own methods instead of using Gateway's.

Certainly not with this mindset. I'd say it could be hard to change, but I think it can happen. Except for people who only want to pirate and insult the people who allow them to in the first place, I'd say there could be interest in this, it just needs to make people feel motivated enough or something. You obviously need a NNID to use Nintendo Network features. Only thing I can think of is to keep NNID activity onto a different nand to one all your DLC is on. Seems a waste to put badges on an unused Sysnand though.

Europe had them at launch, but chances of a 9.0 system are quite slim.

Unlikely. It only works up to 9.5 on n3DS because of new keyslots in the n3DS CPU, o3DS doesn't have these. Only remaining unknown key for o3DS is the 6.x save keyslot, and while Nintendo could hypothetically use that to secure the firmware in future, the fact that they haven't already is a strong indicator that they won't.

I've followed along until part 3 - booting into emunand. I thought I was following the guide to the letter, but got an error with regards to the slot0x25KeyX.bin. I was able to find it through the FAQ in the OP, but I'm still having issues booting into Emunand.
There's a 50% chance I get stuck at a black screen when opening Cakes through HBL, and then from there I have never been able to open Cakes while the Emunand patch option has been checked.
Any ideas on what to try next?
And how would I go about checking to see if the emunand partition has been formatted correctly?

If you've still got the Gateway, you can see if that still boots successfully. Otherwise, just try formatting a new one. I had a similar issue settings up a friend's 3DS a few days ago and reformatting the emuNAND fixed it.

If you're on 4.5 SysNAND and 7.0+ EmuNAND, and then you update your SysNAND to 7.0+, your 3DS will start using the new save encryption on EmuNAND instead of just faking it somehow like it was before. This will make your old saves unreadable. (Of course you can always just downgrade again.)

The problem (probably) was because I updated emuNAND via a bunch of cia files back then.
Now I updated via a rom (just look for a correct version on http://www.3dsdb.com/ ). To do this all you have to do is press up on the d-pad while booting into gateway mode. This disables the firmwarespoofing and, if not connected to the internet befor, let's one update when launching the game.

You can install stuff like that on higher firmwares too through the email writer trick, but you forgot about PS1 exploits, those don't exist on 3.30+ yet. If you don't care about that though, then no, there's no reason to not upgrade to 3.30 and get the Rejuvenate CPU boost.

Practically perfect PS1 EBOOT playback with sound, TN-V can half-manage to play them with sound but it's buggy and causes slowdown.
That said, more PS1 exploits for higher firmwares should be coming eventually with ARK-3 in open beta. Once that happens, 3.30-3.36 will be the new golden firmware range. Just don't update to 3.50, you don't gain anything that doesn't exist on 3.36, and that's when Sony started putting blocks on the /PSP/GAME/ directory which makes PSP-mode stuff much more of a hassle.

(I live in the US so the only one here is on 9.4 or newer by default) I've got an O3DS with CFW and an N3DS XL that unfortunately doesn't have CFW. I've also kinda been wanting the smaller N3DS. It looks comfy and my main issues with the O3DS were more with its painful corner rather than its sides. The N3DS looks more like a 3DS XL in shape so I think it'd be perfect for me.
Also don't update past 9.2 if you update at all, no matter what these dudes are saying. Games that require any sort of specific firmware can be patched so they don't have to, and in my experience they usually are without anyone asking for it anyway. Plus you could have your emunand on the latest version if you really didn't wanna deal with any of that.

I'm not actually sure if this is something they would allow. I went to a GameStop and asked the guy if they had a normal sized N3DS (non-xl) I could hold to see if I liked the size and shape. At first he didn't understand what I meant. He thought I meant O3DS. I explained I had the N3DS XL. I went to another gamestop and Best Buy within the same mall that day and at every turn I had to inform the employees of the smaller N3DS. I had originally hoped that the display 3DS at one of the GameStops would just be the N3DS since it was the newest, but it was an N3DS XL.
Based on posts in this thread, I think your best bet would be to pay for it and return it if the firmware is wrong. If the GameStop guy seemed cool enough, I might even say do the unboxing in the store and return it right there if it's the wrong version. I have heard that if you are trading in a 3DS to get a newer one they'll let you do the system transfer in the store before leaving so you don't lose your shit.

I'm trying to install RXTools on an old 3DS XL w/ firmware 6.2.
I can get to the installation suite, but then it tells me to press any key to continue and doing so takes me to a black screen.
I can still launch into gateway's emunand fine and from what I've read RXTools uses the same emunand, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
Holding R while booting rxTools causes the rxTools installation screen to show up on the top screen for a second, then it goes straight to the black screen.
Any ideas?

Can someone tell me why when I try to play Path of Radiance on my Wii through Configurable USB loader, it tells me I have no memory card? I use the GCMM for my GC games and they all work fine, but not PoR. I haven't messed with my Wii in a long time so I don't really remember if I need to do something special or what.
