The tools Overwatch gives you to solve problems are contained in a single, brainless button rather than a complex and difficult set of movements and/or offensive measures. The entire game revolves around identifying the correct rock-paper-scissors situation to press your button, then pressing it. There is no serious skill of any kind involved. You're going through the motions of what you think a video game entails.

The miniscule difference between a week-old Overwatch player and a year-old Overwatch player will be lost in the cloud of instakill ultimates, teleports and AOE abilities. This game is transcendentally shit, and there is no escape from it. This is the very profitable future of FPS. Hell. Population: you.

But the camera perspective isn't top-down, it's first person. This makes zero sense for a strategy game and inhibits the player's ability to get an overall picture of what's going on. The controls also make it impossible for the player to ever control more than one unit, like they sometimes do in DOTA.

There are no map resources to fight over - as a strategy game, the only strategic element is the win condition. You cannot have such a lopsided 'strategy' game ever be interesting by its strategic merit.

Overwatch is shit as either an FPS game or a strategy game.

Most of the hype for this was riding on it being "free2play" or low cost buyin, therefore giving it the potential to be large and popular. It's a multiplayer only game and its full price, how of those have we had which have had player retention?

The game doesn't have a built-in fanbase, it's not a sequel. A guy I know who plays warcraft got into the beta, he played once and didn't like. He ain't gonna buy the game.

Overwatch isn't going to invent a mass of new players, it's going to have to take them from games like TF2 and CS:GO.

The wall and blizzard are reminiscent of Anivia, athough Mei's Blizzard being able to stun is different and in this game the wall of course offers vertical movement too. That said, Anviva was hardly the first to do "big AOE Blizzard that damages and slows". Ice Block on the other hand is like an ability of Winter Wyvern from Dota2 and her gun is pretty much it's own thing.

I'm /in/, so my favorites are mostly based on how strong the heroes are, because I'm an autist that only has fun while winning.

McCree, doesn't have a weakness. Absolute beast of a hero. Can snipe from range, can flashbang+RMB for free kills. Ult makes you a sitting duck, but it potentially ohk's multiple people, so it's okay.

I feel like this category of heroes is quite weak in general and only useful for wallhacks from Hanzo/Widowmaker. But if I have to choose, it's:
Widowmaker. She's goodHanzo.

Lucio. I don't play Support heroes, but movement speed from Lucio is very helpful when someone in my team plays him.

Anyway, with all the talk about "switching heroes to fit the situation" I was expecting something more. I can be McCree or Pharah in 99% of situations and easily outperform Defense heroes.
Tanks and supports are still needed though, obviously.

It doesn't segment shit. Base game maps are always played most. If you want to play new maps you can do it too by paying a little money, it's just few different maps and not a big deal. There is no segmentation. New maps just have less active servers that run them.

Multiplayer only games that aren't f2p are doomed to fail, especially with a 40+$ pricetag. If Blizzard is very lucky, Overwatch will be the next Rocket League, Smite or Chivalry, meaning people might play it on and off and it will develop a small, dedicated core playerbase. Worst case, it will be completely forgotten like Natural Selection 2 or Evolve. Either way, it will never be the next big thing like what Blizz were hoping for.
