The problem with Overwatch being the Dota 2 of FPS games is because it's totally unfeasible. Dota 2 has had years and years behind its production, its hype, and its conception. You can't expect a brand new IP to have the same kind of loyal following.

Dota 2 should be considered one of the wonders of this world, expecting other games to compete with it is ridiculous.

They could have released CSGO for free, but STILL ask $20 from you to play despite having so much history.

Overwatch being an entirely new IP can definitely be $40. And if they do expansions, Blizzard has a history of providing a shit ton of good ones. Probably the only exception is Starcraft 2, but that game was shit from the start.

I will say one thing about Zarya's design:
Her hair makes her easy to spot, which is important for "reading" the match situation quickly.
Kind of like pic related. You don't have to spend any time at all figuring out who you're looking at, which means you can spend time figuring out what they're capable of and what they want to do.
In Dirty Bomb, the only reason I can easily distinguish between enemy Sparks and Aura players is their playstyles. Aura wants to hump her health station just outside a chokepoint, while sparks prefers to stay back a bit, sniping downed teammates and enemies with her revive gun.
It's generally a lot harder to differentiate between some of different characters in one of the game's roles, with the exception of the engineers, maybe.

This is pretty much how TF2 originated and its community thrived during its peak and continues to hang around.

Even though it came in the Orange Box with other games you still had to buy the orange box to begin with.

It then went on to found the hats economy as was mostly sustained by cosmetics and small game-play updates over the months and years.

If Overwatch even remotely repeats the TF2 formula it's going to be a huge success - especially with the Blizzard loyalty drone / hype machine driving it along.
