>video games will NEVER look like this in your lifetime
Why is the industry so far behind? What went wrong?
>why can't computers make good music?
eventually they did
>why can't computers render movies in realtime?
eventually they will
>rocket will NEVER be your boyfriend

Because we're reaching physical limits of what our hardware can do. Someone would need to work out how to make a quantum computer before we get back to exponential growth.
>>388257332
>Why is the industry so far behind?
because you faggots put up with it and even worse meme it with corporate loyalty. why improve chips by leaps and bounds when you can improve by baby steps and make more money?
In 50 years I'm sure vidya will look pretty good.
Look 10 years back at every game being horribly low res and muddy looking, 10 years before that where an entire character had less polygons than a finger in a modern game, and 10 years before that everything was represented by meager amounts of pixels.
I want my games to be fun to play. I don't really care too much if they don't like real life.

>50 years
It's been 20 years and vidya still can't compete with Toy Story's visuals.

You sure? The original Toy Story kind of looks like ass, it aged poorly. There's some beautiful looking games now.they'd look better if not held back by 4 year old consoles though
Why would I want them to look like that?
>>388258504
You can already buy a quantum computer, but it won't make games run any faster.
>>388257332
>Why is the industry so far behind? What went wrong?
>Not understand that the industry is actually up to the same technology.
I guess yall are too retarded to understand the difference between real time and pre-rendered.
>>388259798
this is a meme. Toy Story looks like shit. 2 on the other hand...
>>388260316
Exactly. Call me a nostalgia fag, but I fucking love playing shit with "video game" graphics.
Rocket is so fucking hot.
>>388260248
OP is pasta
But Toy story 1 was rerendered for its second dvd and br release. This version is a little more sophisticated compared to the true original.
Toy Story 1 already has been run in realtime on a Sigraph a few years back.
Do we really need this same thread every day?
>>388257332
Rocket's CGI is pretty impressive in the first Guardians of the Galaxy considering that they didn't do any motion capture. Also, I'm betting that games will start to look like that fairly soon, it's just human models that'll always have that uncanny valley feeling.
>prerendered visuals look better the real time rendering
whoa op say it aint so

>raccoons will never be such perfect husbandos in your lifetime
>>388257332
I wouldn't say that. Game graphics have evolved a lot in my lifetime as is and I'm an old fart whose 1st game was SMB. Who knows what will happen in the next 30 years?
>>388257332
>Why can't this frame that took an hour to render on a 10,000 core renderfarm render in 16.6 seconds on my 1080ti
kys
>>388257332
doesnt even look as good as a 2 yo game
>>388257332
Expensive high quality visuals in vidya is a waste of money and effort.

Phantom Pain cutscenes were prerendered retard...
blame consolefags
>>388257332
the last FF wants to do that in the PC version
I want to ___ Rocket
It now take about 3-4 years to make a great game from scratch.
Average console life-span is 5 years.
It's a fucking joke.
>>388257332
companies are purposely slowing down progression for long term money.
>>388263735
Fuck
The number one computer hardware company can't actually make a decent GPU.
The number two company has good graphics hardware, but can't make a driver.
The company who makes the primary PC graphics API, is a console company and generally lets their API rot until they need to launch a new one. That means that even when the hardware is good, its constantly held back by an inferior API.
Better APIs exist, but practically no one uses them, and even from that group only a very few use them as the primary development target.

Economy crashed in the late 2000s. We'd be in gen 9 by now if it wasn't for that.
