weebshit but the sheer breadth of styles in manga should really not be underestimated.

Try something different. The genre is full of plain romance already, so, even though it can be good, it won't stand out. Take Hushabye Valley for example. Her art in those Alien Girl stip became really popular: https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/alien_girl and she even have a pretty succesful patreon: https://www.patreon.com/hushabyevalley
It's different and cute enough that even people not interested in yuri liked it.

As for art, something cute. Usually is easier to do that with weeb art. Try to avoid something that doesn't even look like humans. Nothing that seems to be out of Cartoon Network, for example.

Please don't involve male characters in yuri.

By all means involve them in yuri stories. If you want a battle/special ability-focused story, for example, men participating in fights is perfectly okay. Secondary male characters having their own love interests/spouses is also fine. But I really feel that men should not be involved directly in yuri romance itself, in either a positive or negative role.

If you want good examples, look no further than the yuri classics that are Akai Ito and Aoi Shiro, which boast a decent selection of male characters (Hakuka, Nushi, Munetsugu, Ba Rouryuu) who are not just tolerated but openly welcomed by the yuri community because they never interact with the yuri side of the story and regard both the main character and the heroines in a strictly non-romantic manner.

A male main character won't give you any trust points, and most people won't even read it, as you can see with previous answers already. Even worse if there's a girl already in love with him.

As for the premise itself, I don't find it much interesting. Of course, I would still give a chance to something if the art and writing is good enough, regardless of what is about, but I don't think it'll grab peoples' attention.

If your art is great, you might get a niche to follow you, though. But if you want any chance to break out of this niche, you need a more interesting idea.

Not saying that it can't be a good idea, but trusting a new writer is hard enough. People who read a lot of things got betrayed a lot already, so they'll be wary about red flags. If it's something you really want to write, I would put it on hold until I gain people's trust.

And writers betraying readers isn't even a yuri thing. It happens in pretty much any genre. Just remember Usagi Drop.

If you want my suggestion, I would say to make something that takes place in a male dominated setting, but with two girls as protagonists and the guys not involved in their romance.

As an example, Yuri Hime recently had an one-shot about a girl playing shogi because she fell for another girl. I thought that would be a nice sports series, but they even say how unusual it is for young girls to play shogi, so the actual series would be the two girls playing against a bunch of old men.

And of course, try to get better at drawing girls.
