I've also read in several places that the game's female romance option is available when playing as a female character, but from personal experience I'm not sure it's actually true.

How did you do it? The obvious solution never worked for me: maxed out alignment, very high beauty and charisma, being extra nice to her all the time, playing as a race she would go for if it was a male player character instead. I went as far as opening the game files with modding tools to find the actual requirements, but all I could find was the trigger for male player characters.

Yes those two styles work fine as examples, the feeling i get from these western mixes is they follow the anime form in terms of placement of features and general shape of the head however they apply more realistic shading to it, its kind of hard to explain.

Also a lot of English developers are either going to provide their own art (example, Ebifly) so all their games will have a familar look, or are going to go to a known artist with a good reputation instead of taking a gamble on someone who nigh not deliver, which means a lot of English VNs will have a look like another developer's

There are a few non-VNs as well.
Cross Ange is the only Vita-exclusive that comes to mind (don't let the anime fool you, the game is 100% yuri and according to the anons who played it a lot better than the anime). Otherwise Nights of Azure is available on the Vita in Japan. It's also possible some /u/-relevant PSP games (Persona 3 Portable, the Fate/Extra series, Agarest Senki Mariage) are playable on the Japanese Vita, but I can't read moon so you'll have to do your own research to know whether or not they are.

I don't know if it counts, but in Fallout New Vegas you can explicitly make your character a full blown lesbian(there's a trait that actually allows you to unlock related dialogue with certain female characters), and you can flirt with some girls and sleep with them. To be fair, there aren't actually many dialogue options related to this trait, just something that pops up a few times in the game.

There are also two canonically lesbian characters in the game, one of which can be your companion through the game and the other one is your companion in one of the DLC stories, although they aren't romanceable.

I just spent literally all day playing Starlight Vega.

I haven't played many VNs before, let alone yuri ones, so I don't know what the general perception is of this game in particular, but I had a blast.

Not really. Tastes vary enough to make such useless. You can pick anything from the list and give it a shot (if you find a torrent or demo at least, which can be hard for some of them). If you don't have much experience with VNs your standards may be low enough for any of them to do.

That said, the ones with their own threads (Nurse Love Addiction, Kindred Spirits, etc.) are pretty safe bets.
I personally recently played Starlight Vega, which was alright although not amazing, and Embric of Wulfhammer's Castle, which was great and free but not really a VN.

I was bored, wanted to kill a few hours and it didn't disappoint. It was base competent and there wasn't much wrong with it, but didn't do anything that'd leave a lasting impression.
The protagonist was a bit generic but not particularly annoying, the all of the heroines were surprisingly likable in their own routes (even the one I didn't intially like), and the main story was serviceable although far from amazing. It's also relatively short so none of it really overstayed its welcome.
To me its biggest flaw is that it felt rather generic, but it's still enjoyable for what it is.

Ok just played the game of the OP pic which is Winterwolves Queen of theives. It is probably one of their worst games yet there is only one likable waifu. The other two just took feminism majors and can't wait to show the sisters just how strong and independent they are all the time. Planet Stronghold colonial defence was so much better in the romance department and all waifus are better. Only Elf girl is okay but its still stupid how she is over hundred years old and doesn't get what romance is at all. Plus its not any good until the end of the route.

Don't even get me started on the lack of story and endless repititve scenes. How you advance the main story is so boring and despite one of the sisters being 25 she acts like an annoying 16 year old. It cost more than Planet stronghold and it takes half the time to complete it. Terrible game a real shame and it just makes me wish they would stop doing all these crap side games that nobody wants and go back to Loren. Loren had great waifus and promises even more and being seduced by a succubus seems pretty hot to me. Shame Loren 2 is about 5 years later than it should be. Sorry for rant just pretty pissed when I could have spent the money on another game instead.

For example I really want Therjalla and Joanne together, but I was conflicted since Thalla can only get Mary-Anne and Therjalla. I got Kianne x Mary-Anne (because I like their chemistry) that leave Thalla between a tug war in my mind. Another thing is the money goal is really tedious and annoying. It makes me lose interest in the game as each goal is reached. Glad you enjoyed the game more than I did and I am normally fairly defensive to Winterwolves as I know u/ on the whole doesn't like them much. Doesn't help when they have way more yuri fans than yaoi fans and still haven't made an exclusive yuri game yet but have made a yaoi one. I tried to mod it for myself a few months ago and it kinda worked. I managed to change the sire model's skin and voice (so they look and sound female) but not the model's skeleton. Female skins aren't adapted to male skeletons, so the sire ended up looking distorted during the intro scenes. Changing the model's skeleton is far beyond my modding skills, so that's as good as it's ever going to be coming from me.

As usual when I try to mod stuffs it's brute force, so there's no easy install unless we're using the same game version and the same mods. Changing the skin is just editing two text files, but changing the voice requires using modding tools. On the good side I'm pretty sure changing the voice is one of these cases where you can just replace the relevant file with one I already made without breaking anything else, because this is a file other patches and mods are unlikely to modify.
