>bad acting (Bell, Lynch, Horse, Robertson, Dern, ...)
>dull characters (one-dimensional at best)
>storylines and characters are introduced for no purpose
>everything is supposed to weirdly connect and make sense
>shot in digital in a way that doesn't compensate for the technology's disadvantages (looks bad)
>roadhouse scenes (out of place, badly shot, the songs, the bands, the extras, ...)
>student-tier storytelling/editing (characters are shown walking up complete sets of stairs)
>stretched out needlessly, long takes have no particular effect
>obviously delusional and/or inexperienced fanbase perceiving it as particularly meaningful, complex or "deep"
>can't compare to the original series that doesn't have those problems (coherent/complex and beautiful sets, costumes and make-up/well shot/well acted/well written/magnificent multi-dimensional characters and character relations, music, storylines and gimmicks/creates a unique athmosphere as a result, changing the world of television forever whereas "the return" neither manages to do something established really good nor to invent something new)
>extended pitch black scenes because of a lack of a competent cinematographer
>audio issues with microphone static left unaddressed because of poor sound design
>extremely poor editing with magically disappearing extras and production staff accidentally walking into frame

Does anyone else think that it was a bit anticlimactic to just have Lucy shoot Mr.C? Out of all the based characters, Lucy?
Also, what was he even up to anyway? I guess we can conclude that he was some kind of crime lord for the past 25 years, but do we know what did he try to accomplish by going to Twin Peaks 25 years later all of a sudden?

I have been working pretty solidly so haven't been keeping up with theories that may have developed over the last few days, but something hit me while at work today.

What if Dougie Cooper is Broken Cooper? The shell of a man who has realised he got everything wrong and wasn't good enough to stop whatever evil it was he had to. Maybe he had a total mental, spiritual and physical breakdown after the moment where he says 'What year is this?' and went catatonic? He begins to act like Dougie just before asking that question; unsure and unsteady and almost childlike.

We know that the timelines inter-cross and are convoluted, so it could make sense. I read somewhere that Cooper asking the year means the Ep. 18 ending was in the 'past', so Dougie is the present day shell of post-breakdown Cooper.

Also electroshock therapy used to be a thing used on catatonic/depressed patients so maybe that ties into the plug socket moment: he is told to wake himself up by the one armed man so the cycle repeats yet again.

remember "it's two fifty-three, fellas!"
it was also 2:53 in the Sheriffs dep.
now, spell it out one number at a time:

two five three
"too five free"
in Suaheli "TU FAYF FAREE" means "The one that dances with the snake"

notice how the clock creates and "O" shape?
now, Coop stands next to the clock on the right and his left arm extends, forming a "P"

The Suaheli phrase is often used to describe men who want to sexually please other men.
Lynchs message in that scene:

OP dances with snakes:
"OP IS A FUCKING FAGGOT"

He basically explains it in the first episode. He's trying his best to avoid returning to the Black Lodge. He also shows the picture of Judy, and says that's what he wants. So he needs Judy to avoid going into the black lodge.

When he gets the actual coordinates, which would have send him directly to Sarah Palmer's house (possessed by Judy), The Fireman redirects him to the Sheriff's Office where he gets fucked over.

a certain number which, being composed out of the first four numbers, produces the most perfect number –– that is, ten (for 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10). This number is the first tetraktys and it is called
‘the fount of ever-flowing nature’ because it is their view that the whole universe is organized on harmonic principles, and harmony is a system of three concords (the fourth, the fifth, and the octave), and the ratios of these three concords are found in the four numbers I have already mentioned –– that is, in 1, 2, 3, and 4. This is almost fanfiction but... right:

The place where Cooper crossed dimensions? The pylon that looked like the symbol on his card? Pretty sure that was the place he was trying to find. And I strongly suspect it might be because that was the world he originated from. It seems like a sort of inversion of the one the real Cooper came from so where real Cooper was a man of the law Doppelcooper might haven been a gangster in his world. So... I think Doppelcooper might have just tried to get home.

Thinking about it, BOB was only destroyed in the current year of the original, Laura Died timeline. The new timeline created by Cooper branches off from the original timeline only at the point where Laura is in the woods sobbing the night she was originally going to die. The fact that Laura has the same argument with James, and is just as distraught as she is in FWWM, suggests all the years of abuse she suffered at BOB's hands still happened. So even though Cooper creates a new timeline in which Laura doesn't die, BOB still exists in that timeline (still inhabiting Leland) and presumably doesn't stop his shit, just moves onto a new victim?

There was a trippy 90's game produced by Robert DeNiro that had similar vibe, like that The Residents game.
Also there are two very similar games to TP, first is Mizzurna Falls, made for PS1, came out only in Japan, but through the years it was translated by one woman team, and second, Deadly Premonition, seriously weird and seriously close to TP, it's pretty great, if you can start it, that is... Plus it has phenomenal soundtrack.

Sex has always been considered one of the most mystic istances of life: from Plato to Kant, from the dawn of Indo-European myth in the Steppe of Asia to postmodern Chaos Magick, the loss of rationality and feeling of compenetration/superimposition with another human being (ego death, if you will) that come along with sex have been thought of as a way to get closer with the truth of Gods/Being; using sex, "magical" acts can be performed and wondrous things achieved, or at least so mythology says.

I like the whole audrey is in a madhouse and the roadhouse is extensions of that theory, but james and shelly and freddy appearing in the roadhouse kind of cheapens it, makes it inconsistent. We see a fake roadhouse but also the real one, but they're indentical, there's no divide

and then stuff like the characters audrey bringing up being mentioned by the chick renee who james has a crush on (i.e. chuch) sort of muddies the thing

Sure, it's also obviously Judy's symbol but Judy was talking to him over the phone back in episode 2, threatening him and telling him he'd go back into the Black Lodge and she'd be with Bob again which I imagine is exactly what he didn't want. So I don't see how meeting Nudy would be in his interest. At all.
>>
>>87409250

Yeah, I can't take the credit for this theory, but Judy / the Experiment was summoned to the glass cube by sex. And pain and suffering is needed to enter the black lodge. So they had awkward sex, Diane was flooded with memories of Evil Cooper rape, and the next day, Cooper wakes up in a different motel than the one he went to sleep in.

He wanted to get to the coordinates of the White Lodge entrance (pool of white on ground by sycamore tree instead of pool of black motor oil smell). He could then warp into it and from there warp to Judy's location (he doesn't know who Judy is nor where).

He got to the White Lodge, but the Giant was ready for him with Briggs backup. Casually slid over the Palmer house on the screen and replaced with the sheriff station. Then put him in the tuba and sent him to it.

By going back in time and rescuing Laura, Cooper erased the entire timeline of Twin Peaks from the moment her body was found right up to 25 years later in the Sheriff's office after dispatching BOB. A new timeline is created and the only remaining traces of the old timeline are Cooper's memories. In fact what we are seeing is Cooper's memories hence the overlaid face

BUT! Cooper took the original Cole and Diane into the new timeline with him, meaning they will also remember the original timeline (Philip Jeffries even references this). Why does he take Cole? Maybe so he can solve blue rose cases better.

He tries his Lodge swipe in the end and realises he can't do it. He only had that power in the Lodge, likely at the behest of the Fireman so he could do his bidding. But when the mission is complete he is no longer needed and thus has no power.

Fireman is white lodge, he ain't got shit on black lodge. Cooper is the only magician with both black + white lodge certification. His power to befriend everyone extends beyond the visible universe.

Cooper was trying to open the shit the way you pinch yourself to wake up from a dream, fearing he was still in the lodge. All that was confirmed by his inability to swipe a curtain is that he was in the physical universe.

He did gain lodge powers. Those of both the white and black lodge. Judy gonna get fucked up now that Laura had a horrifying re-integration of her memories. Mrs. Tremond/Chalfont using her skills to replace the interior of the house temporarily in order to delay the confrontation until Laura is primed.

Laura face needs to be able to come off to battle Sara face come-off.

Why did Jack Nance never have a decent career and why did he have to die as a bitter old drunk rather than the accomplished character actor he should have been?
>>
"See you in 25 years" finally makes sense. She meant that they will meet in real life. The happening in the last episode was a part of the plan.

>anything the co-creator says isn't canon
>also ignoring Tammy and comatose Audrey were introduced through the first book and explored proper through the show
Anytime someone makes this argument like they seriously believe Lynch is the be all end all to everything TP and he apparently only works with Frost for kicks is the moment I stop taking them seriously.

The entire show took place in a universe where Laura was a missing person—the same universe that Cooper accessed at the end.

>befriend everyone extends beyond the visible universe
Being used by multiple parties means you befriend them? Mike still fucked him over right before Jeffries had something to say to him.
>>
>>87410509

He's a novice magician, I can't believe people unironically deny it after he's welcomed by MIKE with the fire walk with me chant, and controls the red room curtains with his hands like a boss. Hes in over his head in Judy's dark world though.

Have you ever seen any of Lynch's films?

You wanna know who killed Laura? (YOU) DID! We all did. And calling her CUTE ain't gonna bring her back so save your prayers. She woulda laughed at them anyway.

But he still wouldn't be in any real danger. If he's like MIKE now and inhabiting Richard's body, he can just leave it, return to the Lodge and start over again. Or at the very least find another approach.

I think the curtain thing he does is just to show that he's spent so much time in the Lodge that he knows what to expect now. And it's not as if MIKE has never exchanged that chant with him in season 1.
>>
>>87410637

That's an intriguing statement but self contradictory. That said it would be interesting to check whether there are any references to the Palmer case as being a murder case.
>>
>>87410320
Sherilyn recanted and in any case didn't attack Lynch personally, just called Showtime sexist.
>>
>>87410509
He never met Mrs. Tremond, she's a name that Donna told him. The Mrs. Tremond he met was a fucking nigger woman.
He never met Mrs. Chalfont either, she was packed up when he went to Deer Meadow.
He's skilled enough to have remembered when they walked away though, and to figure it out. That's why he asks what year it is, fearing Mrs. Tremond is too young.

Does anybody remember that story from when the premiere first aired, that Lynch made the entire production team sign a contract that forbids anyone to speak of the production for 5 years?

When the lights go out and Gordon shouts for his name, that's that reality ending, as Cooper changes the timeline.

Entire Season 3 was post-Laura Palmer disappearance. She got JUDYed away and couldn't be there to face Mother. Resulted in 25 years of mounting JUDY power, culminating in the escape from the glass box of the JUDY.

S1E3 is what hooked me with the dream sequence, but S1E4's funeral scene is when I knew I was witnessing pure kino. When Leland jumped on the casket I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or even if should feel bad that I felt conflicted about it. Never had a show give me that feel before.

Bad Coop represents The Return ("Would you like a cup of coffee?" - "I'm all right.") and Cooper is the OG series, trying to overtake bad Coop.

"it's a bad story" / "what happens in season 2?"
Is this one backed up by anything? Watched this episode without subtitles and couldn't hear anything.

You mean throughout the series or at some particular moment?

the first one says sarah to hawk and the latter albert in the morgue. but the idea of this being the final dialogue of cooper and laura is hilarious
