Hell, you could even say that this was teased since The Pilot, since they mention possibly seeing her again.

I absolutely hated the first fifteen / twenty minutes. All that Missy crap seriously wound me up the wrong way.

It started to improve when Bill met Mr Razor, and the last five minutes were pretty good.

But the whole thing built up to two things we already knew - Cybermen and Master - so it all felt rather pointless.

Having said that, John Simm was excellent, and I really didn't spot that it was him until he started dropping hints to Missy.

But it didn't really feel like a particularly incident full episode. Extraordinarily slow, particularly the three whole minutes of a partially converted Cyberman saying "pain".

I do think it was somewhat inappropriate for the timeslot, especially the hole in Bill's chest - nobody ever gets to complain about Lytton having his hands crushed ever again!

Bill is a classic case of casted for her skin colour. Her acting is terrible. She can't do scenes on the level of Capaldi, Simm or Gomez and the series has suffered because of it. Coleman whilst she stayed too long was a great actress on par with Capaldi which is why you faggots enjoyed Capaldi's first two series.

honestly for post-crisis moff this was pretty much as good as we can expect. the creepy stuff was genuinely creepy, the funny stuff was genuinely funny (for once) and even the character stuff was okay because it was mostly focused on the only 2 characters he actually cares about

I really hope he does is own thing and/or is a combination of the best aspects of both eras. I like that depth of characterization of the RTD era but, sometimes it's like a soap, fucking Corrie in space as I used to hear it called by the haters. Appreciated the Moffat's era return to a strong sci-fi feeling but, sometimes that was at the expense of a proper feeling of humanity in the episodes. I appreciated that the Moffat era had a stronger connection to the older series than the RTD era did but, things definitely got to the point where it's being written for medium to hardcore fans rather than something that almost anyone could pick up and get into like Russel's era.

I hope for a decent balance between for the normies and for the anoraks with Chris' era.

When he started talking weird shit about tea. I realized that they wouldn't waste so much time on developing another wacky side character with two Masters already in the story.

Wow, knowing literally every reveal and plot point in advance from the trailers and official teaser stuff completely put a damper on this episode. The whole episode is basically about the mystery of it all, but literally the next time trailers gave it all completely away. It went from suspense to dramatic irony, but not on purpose so it was incredibly weak.

I also felt the time dilation was a total waste; if Bill had a stronger theme of "waiting for the Doctor" or even waiting/patience in general, her deal this episode would've been much stronger. Otherwise, the time distortion gimmick made for a cool premise but ultimately wasn't used in very interesting or creative ways. It contributed nothing to the story that couldn't have worked just fine if Bill was down below for a couple hours or just days and the Doctor and pals werent just taking a while to make their way down. I hope it's used to the fullest somehow in the next episode. Feels a bit of a wasted opportunity.

Enjoyed it overall though. Especially the direction. The first act was fantastic. The pre-credits, then the setup/arrival scene, Bill gets shot, then we go to flashbacks and have some incredibly comfy slice of life bits that really give the episode its emotional backbone, and then we're back in the present and everything looks fucked. It felt so tight and well done, like a proper show that knows what it's doing and is excited about doing it. To contrast, literally every moment of the Monk trilogy felt incredibly hollow and unfocused. It's a real damn shame the rest of series 10 (aside from Pilot which in its entirety shared the perfect vibe and direction of the first third of World Enough) didn't get the same loving treatment and decent/great writing this episode got.

One last note is that the volume knob bit is the most horrifying thing moff has come up with and managed to stick in an episode, imo. It's simple and it's horrifying and unexpected. Reminded me a lot of the "don't cremate me" reveal
