And doing it a hundred times better
>>
When I first watched I thought it was ultimate kino because "kill me" and "pain" caught me off-guard, Simm reveal was done nicely, core concept of time dilation is a strong idea.

But after the initial excitement I'm finding a lot of flaws.
World is too underdeveloped for my liking, "doctor who is his real name I swear" part was draggy, I still don't really care about Bill, but that hole in the chest thing was brutal.
It's still much better than some of the episodes this series *cough* monks *cough* but it's certainly not a perfect example of good storytelling

I give it 7/10

Does this retcon Cybermen origin? Did Cybermen on the ship and Cybermen on Mondas develop independantly from each other?

It had better characters. Call it eastenders writing XD if you want, but how characters reacted on the alien stuff, how they talked to each other - it was much more realistic, and so that relatable.
I like Earth Invasion stories, I liked it in classics, Rusty is a fucking genius about these, I love how people remember what happened in-universe, I love that there are consequences.
I love that show isn't centered around the Doctor himself, but rather around either actual plot in the particular episode, or about companions.

Well, I for one really enjoyed that episode lads. The fourth-wall breaking was a little strange at first, but I got used to it. Solid sci-fi concept - harder sci-fi than we've seen from DW in a while anyway. The scenes in the city at the bottom of the ship were solid if not spectacular; Simm-in-disguise was great, was Simm playing the Russian janitor guy or was it someone else? Good reveal, some fun back and forth between the two Masters. Could have been incredibly if it hadn't been in the promos.

>>
So it's finally settled, RTD has the best Weeping Angel episode.
>>
>>84256465
RTD knew how to structure an episode over 45 minutes to build dramatic tension and then resolved.
A lot of Moffat episodes are realy badly plotted, jump around willy nilly and have poor endings.
Aside from all matters of taste and personal opinion, I unironically believe this is the reason more and more people have stopped watching during the Moffat era and why RTD is a better writer, in the sense that he's a better craftsman, than Moffat. Moffat has a lot of clever ideas, but can't always make the most of them. On the other hand, on some occasions RTD went the easy way and wrote episodes lacking in originality, but it didn't matter because he could write 45 minutes of well-paced television.
A good idea well executed is obviously the best one can hope for, but a mediocre idea with a good execution will generally beat a great idea with a poor execution.

Can this work, though? The bottom of the ship is experiencing time much, much faster than the top, but it should still only be experiencing it at 'normal' (for the universe in general) speed (it's the top that's being slowed - the bottom isn't being accelerated, well not THAT much???).
So if the bottom has gone through many years, so has Mondas.

>Their goal is to produce a larger online discussion of Doctor Who and sharing of funny images related to the show to help promote and generate and a larger viewer base among younger audiences.
>We think fans will be quite surprised by the choice of actor who will be taking on the iconic role in BBC's popular series.
>>
>>84257373
Take a terrible RTD episode like New Earth or Voyage of the Damned, two of my least favorites of his. At the start of the episode, the audience are presented with a bunch of characters, those characters are put in danger, the stakes get gradually higher, the true villain is revealed, some characters die, the situation is tied up. If you look at the themes and ideas, those episodes are certainly no Midnight or Children of Earth, but they pass the time.

Now take a great Moffat episode like Listen. The TARDIS jumps from place to place, there's no clear raising of the stakes, characters enter the story and then exit it without really making an impression, until we get to the final scenes where the "mystery" is resolved in a way, but the plot strands don't really come together. Or Extremis, which again consists mainly of jumping from location to location, no character really makes an impact, the story is resolved in a clever way but again the resolution only concerns the Doctor, all those other characters and settings have been left aside.

RTD at his worst was formulaic, but Moffat even at his best leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to building a coherent story.

Tbh I thought Moffat was about to retcon Mondas into actually being a spaceship to explain how it is used like a fucking spaceship in The Tenth Planet,

I thought maybe The Master could use a chameleon circuit to make Mondas look like a planet. But that's stupid.

Thinking about it, though, Bill couldn't leave the hospital or her chest piece would stop working, right?

Well, in The Tenth Planet, the Cybermen all died when Mondas was destroyed. Like they'd left the hospital.

>>
>>84258179
All of those particular episodes set out to do a particular thing, and succeed in doing it.

TMA sets out to have the Doctor and Davros dialogue for 45 minutes, Let's Kill Hitler was obviously always going to not be about killing Hitler, TWoRS was about showing all of time happening at once, and Hell Bent, much to the chagrin of people who don't like her, was about Clara, and how dangerous her and the Doctor's relationship became, and how far he was willing to go to save her (too far.)

Moffat is so good partly because he is so brave as to do away with convention, and to use the show's lore and the concept of time travel in such bold an innovative ways, so your argument completely falls flat in my eyes, but you're entitled to your opinion on how the show should be no matter how much I disagree with it

This so fucking hard. The regulars of these threads are children though and aren't past the stage where they can criticize their favorite thing and assume everything that comes out of the Doctor Who property is amazing without the ability to critically evaluate it. Every episode is amazing, amazing, amazing without question.

The whole season has been pure garbage except for this episode but you just know they'll fuck it up immediately in the next episode, especially with the return of the NuCybermen when the classic Cybermen were just proven to still look spooky and hold up fine. Also what the fuck is up with Bill's actual human body being intact and beneath the suit? Completely fucking ruined any spookiness the episode tried to build. Completely downplayed the whole episode and raises the spectrum of the Doctor being able to reverse the conversion in the next episode.

Cool, but the problem isn't what those episodes are about, it's how it's done. And you can't deny that there's a pattern if I can find that kind of hodgepodge plotting in a lot of Moffat episodes.
>and Hell Bent, much to the chagrin of people who don't like her, was about Clara, and how dangerous her and the Doctor's relationship became, and how far he was willing to go to save her (too far.
Then why did it have Rassilon and Ohila and all that other stuff in it? Again, it's a problem of how the story is developed.
>Moffat is so good partly because he is so brave as to do away with convention, and to use the show's lore and the concept of time travel in such bold an innovative ways,
And that's interesting stuff. But Midnight defies convention without being a terribly structured story. So does Love and Monsters, for all its faults.
As I said, Moffat a lot some great ideas. He just lacks skill compared to some.

Don't kid yourself you insufferable faggot. Everyone was calling The Pilot GOAT and as the only one daring to shit on your beloved show you autists were throwing temper tantrums over the fact someone bothered to critically think about the show rather than mindlessly love it.

"We're dying. We must evolve to survive"
Suit keeps them alive.
Over time, they become more machine than man. Til Russell T Davies introduces the idea that they're a robot with a brain inside.

Genuinely, am I missing something? It makes sense to me lmao

She already had a massive chestpiece replacing much of her internal organs, and the handlebars are needed to inhibit emotion. Those are what we know - we don't know what else is involved in the conversion process

The OG cybermen had human eyes and noses poking through their cloth faces, and real human eyes.

It did seem to completely skip over the whole part where Arthur is King and Merlin is his trusted magician, where it always seemed like the whole point of the show was supposed to be that Camelot under Arthur's rule would come to believe in using magic after Uther had outlawed it.
>>
>>84259002
Her entire face is still intact. Cant wait to watch you eat your own words when The Doctor reverses the conversion.

>>84259052
Her having her whole human face intact is too much.
>>
>>84259204
I'm not saying anything either way about the possibility of the conversion being reversed, I'm just saying that your complaints about the Cybermen being relatively humanoid (especially this early in their development) don't really hold much water

They've always had noses, human eyes and human hands. They used to have to open their mouths to speak. Even the Earthshock Cybermen had visible chins, just look at this (and it was an intentional design feature to show the chins)

>>84259387
What, exactly, in any previous Cyberman design not including the ones from a parallel universe, is at odds with the idea that the cybermen's faces are intact underneath their helmets? Especially at such an early stage in their evolution?
