Why is 12th's Tardis so comfy?

I used to be a big Doctor Who and watched the whole rebooted season up to Hell Bent, which disappointed me as all of the hype leading up to Gallifrey was ruined by a Clara-centric episode. Plus the whole hiatus in 2016 so I never got around to watching later episodes.

And now suddenly it's the season finale or something, and John Simm is back? I quite liked his Master so I wanted to get back into it.

What are the essential episodes I need to watch since Hell Bent? I'll probably rather watch essential ones and watch the filler if I get around to it.

The Silence blew up the Tardis, because they didn't want the Doctor to answer the question "Doctor Who". The question was broadcasted throughout all time and space via cracks in time by Time Lords from Gallifrey, still stuck in the Time War. The point was that if the Doctor spoke his real name, they would know it's safe to come out or something.
Also there is a paradox - the silence created the cracks to stop the question that was broadcast through the cracks, was that ever explained?

I wish they would just do a valeyard story and get it over with. Why not just make a Doctor have something horrible happen to him and make him go bad for a entire season and call himself the valeyard? Like when 11 lost Amy and he decided to stop being the Doctor for a while and sit on top of a cloud not helping.
Anyone else think a season of him going around refusing to save people or just otherwise being a dick and then just getting it out of the way once and for all like they did with the time war?
I'd love to see the Doctor go to some planet and pop out of the Tardis to find some war going on or people dying, screaming for help, and he just walks back inside and flies away.
I have a feeling though this has happened before to some extent. I can't remember.

I want a story where Doctor discovers he will be corrupted in the future by some force, and fights himself then using his newfound knowledge to avoid being corrupted. But I wouldn't call him Valeyard.

My headcanon is that Time Lord schemers summoned Valeyard from the future, but either his appearance served as a warning to Doctor and grandfather paradoxed him or Time War-related timeline shift made it's impossible for Time Lords to create him so he never came to be.

So I gave up on Doctor who in season 9 I think it was, the last episode I saw was that bullshit Cyberman one where Missy acts like the Rani more than anything and the Brig got posthumously cyber converted. I almost quit then, but gave the double parter with the Daleks the next season a chance. They showed Davros, inexplicably surving Journey's End opening his fucking eyes, which now suddenly have been working eyes all since Genesis of the Daleks. Horrible. Then I quit. It proabably hasn't gotten better. Though I did like Capaldi as the Doctor, only trouble is that the writers sometimes had him do stupid thing.
