The mission of /lbg/ is to promote the intelligent discussion of film as art by providing members with opportunities for intellectual discussion, by recognizing patrician taste through examinations and by calling out embryos as they appear.

Anon calls out /lbg/ posters for not starting threads on the main board. Is he onto something? >>81762826
Anon mixes up movies: >>81761492
Use >>>/tv/lbg as a link to find the /lbg/ thread.
Remember the following:
>Patricians occasionally read these generals and have posted here before.
>Patricians may pretend to be normal users asking for recommendations and when you recommend something, they laugh at you for your plebian taste
>This is a thread for patrician purposes only don't offer or expect frivolous discussion.

It was a bit difficult to actually make a serious effort to identity what my current favorite films are. It's very tempting to lie in order to appear slightly less pleb.
Anyway, rec me some entry level old stuff.
I haven't seen that many 70's films, but I really enjoy The Godfather movies, Taxi Driver, Rocky, Apocalypse Now, and the OT Star Wars movies.
I've watched even fewer pre 1970's movies, from what I've seen I like The Good the Bad and the Ugly, the Sean Connery Bond films, The Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), and I love The Twilight Zone TV series.
ZOMG
teh gay!

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane is great. Top-tier Aldrich after Kiss Me Deadly.
>>81772287
Being genuine is more important that trying to appear patrician or sophisticated, IMO.

presumably it's the new 2K restoration Mosfilm finished last year, and if it's the same one streaming on Filmstruck (likely), it looks great
Mosfilm also released it last fall on YouTube if you want to sample it

Should i actually watch a flick tonight or should i keep playing Nier automata?
>>81774052
I've watched that version and bunch of other stuff from their Youtube page. They're pretty based for releasing bunch of their films in YT.
If it's based on that restoration it will look amazing.
>>81774129
>Nier automata
Keep playing. It's got a better story than any movie that's come out this year
>>81773716
It got the cover it deserves.

Why don't you simply make a normal thread when you make a thread? If you had stopped at "sexy science fiction edition" it would have been a normal thread. Even including a qotd it would be.
But why the hell you have to copypaste this uglyass walltext full of cringe shit?

It's a copy from the behavior of other shit generals, that was not ever unknown. The question is why trying to ape it for this general that always lived without this cringe bullshit.

What's your balance of flicks and cinema? I like to watch flicks in between serious cinema for a break, then when I go back to the cinema I appreciate it even more, by contrast. You know?

Thought I would toss out a few interesting choices. I'm sure not many people have seen Cypher or Body Melt. Get people talking.
>>81796591
It's a short film not a feature length film.
>>81795020
It's one of his most well regarded because it's so unusual, a really experimental/avant-garde approach to a complex social issue, in a way thati believehad never been done before. And one that a lot of people connected with
>>81797561
>I'm sure not many people have seen Cypher or Body Melt
Well, that's true. Some others too. I shall take the rec.
But the get people talking part didn't really work.
>>81797614
>>81795020
Tried to find on YouTube but couldn't, but on the BFI alan Clarke coffret (or the individual release of the firm) they've included as an extra feature a full length episode of 'open air', a phone-in discussion show from the day after it aired
I'd hugely recommend watching that if you have any way of doing so. It's interesting hearing such a wide range of really strong opinions to it, especially when they all have the added benefit of context more directly
>>81796769
It's just something you get sick of reading, like 'the best Jesus movie was made by an atheist,' by people who think they're being clever.
>>81798663
Something that you get sick of reading or hearing shouldn't take away from the value of a given work. Literally a variation of hating because of the fanbase.
