How young are you faggots that always insist on putting Ponyo at the bottom of your tier lists? I felt a lot of Ghibli magic from Ponyo, like the scenes where the mother cooks a meal. It has the classic Ghibli feeling of inserting a feeling of magic into the most mundane parts of life, like cooking a meal, like all the scenes in Totoro focusing on the old dilapidated house and Satsuki trying to light the furnace.

The plot is nonsensical and most of it isn't even shown, Ponyo herself combines all the qualities of every irritating kid ever, Lisa is my least favorite Ghibli character if all time, Ponyo's mother is doped up and gives no shits that her daughter has destroyed towns, cities and killed hundreds of thousands of coast-dwelling people, Toki is a dick and the town don't give a shit that they've lost everything. Literally the only likable characters are Sosuke and his father, who's barely in it.

Maybe I'm not suspending disbelief enough, but when I like so few of the characters and they gloss over stuff that should seem important I just can't look past all the flaws. As I said above, the film looks beautiful and if you're able to enjoy something based on visuals alone then it's a good film. But that's like saying Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a good film. That said, Ponyo is much better than that piece of turd.

Why do people often rate Kiki's Delivery Service so high? As one of the last Ghibli films I saw I was disappointed by the lack of magic and adventure, and the cat turning into an ordinary non-speaking cat parallel to growing up just made me sad as fuck.

Lisa annoyed me because she drove like Cruella DeVil over clifftop roads with her son in the car, then she left him at home in a goddamn typhoon so she could help the old people, who already had staff on hand. If something happened to the old people there were other staff there to help. If something happened to Sosuke and she's not there he's fucked, and he's in a worse position because he lives right by the sea.

Ponyo's mother annoyed me because she gave zero shits that her daughter was destroying the planet and all that was important to her was that Ponyo was happy, despite the fact that Ponyo's rebellious actions had caused irreparable damage to people's livelihoods and families. Basically her daughter was as disobedient as they get and got rewarded for it.

The robots in RotF did look good. The mechanical detail was visually impressive and they looked cool blowing shit up. Literally everything else about RotF was shit, including all the filthy jokes and the absurd runtime.
