"SUSAN!" calls Barbara, reverting her attention to the teacher. "That's the third time you've drifted off this week."

"Sorry, Miss. Haven't been getting much sleep."

"Then perhaps you should see a Doctor."

Bleach is good, but I, Davros alone is enough to cement Terry Molloy as the best for me.
>>
why did RTD bring back davros if he wasn't even going to use him? he had like 20 lines maybe.
>>
>>79560908
Molloy and Wisher are of equal standard for me. Molloy's Davros is a brilliant, ranty pantomime, whereas Wisher is the cold, calculating scientist. Bleach manages to effortlessly combine the two. I'd love to see him in a 10/10 episode
>>
>>79560946
He was literally playing with his toys and a few dildos got lost in the process, becoming Metacrisis Ten, Davros and others.
>>
>>79560946
RTD always said it was the 'plan' to bring back major classic villains every series
>Daleks S1
>Cybermen S2
>The Master S3
>Davros S4

So i'm guessing he just wanted to bring Davros back but couldn't think of a Davros story, so he literally just plonked him in the Dalek's basement and talk to the Doctor about morality for a bit
>>
>>79560973
>>79561008
I had idea for an episode where the Sontarans capture Davros and make him their general, only to realize that he's more of a scientist than a strategist, and not the actual leader of the Daleks. An exasperated Doctor has to end up saving him and none of the three parties involved really want anything to do with each other.
>>
>>79561107
I'd watch that as long as they weren't the shitty comedy Strax sontarans

The Doctor and Clara are summoned by UNIT after a large light appears on Earth that can be seen at any time, any place. People have started disappearing and an old enemy is lurking in the shadows. But the light is not any other light. It's THE light. The one that signals the end of civilizations...
>>
>>79561165

The Doctor and Clara land on a galaxy with a single planet orbiting a dying sun. Doctor who is fucking garbage.
It can tell any story in all of time and space and it always ends up a shitty looking celebration of mediocrity.
It's a predictable, safe formulaic children's show where the Le wacky man saves the day with some 'witty' banter and a 'clever' scheme.
The Doctor never goes anywhere in his development, just going from dark to light or dark to light depending on the incarnation.
It has no love for science or history, it just boils everything down for lowest common denominator. It's a waste of time and effort,
why don't you losers mature and watch some grown up television for a change.
You shouldn't watch doctor who unless it's with your own children but I really don't want you plebs procreating.

>>
>>79569734
>What did Benedict Cumberbatch earn for Doctor Strange?
People here seem to have a weird definition of what an unaffordable A-list actor is.

Cumberbatch is borderline A-list because of his career trajectory and the sheer number of high-buzz projects he does, but he's still never earned anywhere near A-list salaries on anything. He got $2.6M on Doctor Strange, and that's more than twice he ever got on anything before.

Swinton is nowhere near A-list. She works on movies where she loves the script, she's friends with the writer, or (in the past) David Bowie had a dream where she was in it, and she calls the producers up and begs to be in them before her agent can start negotiating, so she often makes salaries under $250K. She did probably get about $1M for Doctor Strange, but if that's the start of a star turn, it'll be the only one in history for a mid-50s woman.

Meanwhile, how much can the BBC pay? They may not pay Tennant-like £1M/year salaries ever again, but nine people (including Cumberbatch for Sherlock) made over £450K for roles in 2016, and their salaries were not disclosed.

So, Doctor Who could probably afford to pay Swinton around £450K, and that would probably be comparable to any movie she did instead.
>>
Honestly, it's not the actors that make Doctor Who but the scripts. You can have top tier actors like Capaldi brought low by shit scripts.
>>
>>79571151
>Honestly, it's not the actors that make Doctor Who but the scripts.
It's a combination. Especially because, despite what Chibs may be saying in public (and may actually believe, if he's an idiot), good writers write differently for different characters.

Switch the scripts that Troughton and Pertwee had, and most of their best stories would be terrible. Or imagine McGann doing any of Colin Baker's best Big Finish scripts, and it's as bad as McGann doing Colin's worst Pip&Jane TV scripts—but with scripts written for McGann's Doctor, he's amazing.

Any decent writers would write Andrew Buchan, Richard Ayoade, Hayley Atwell, or Tilda Swinton differently from how they'd write Peter Capaldi.

The diamond wall is the edge of the dial, not part of its created interior.

But they could have just put a couple inches of concrete in front of it—enough that the Doctor couldn't break through it in a single lifetime, and then it would reset each time. That would have been easy. The reason they didn't is the whole point—what the Doctor did was crazy, and nobody ever anticipated anyone would be as crazy as that.

>>
>>79572049
I adore Heaven Sent but 4.5 billion years is an unimaginably and unnecessarily long amount of time. AND THE DOCTOR REMEMBERS ALL OF IT! Does Moffat have ANY notion of time at all, because he could have put the Doctor in the dial for 4.5 thousand years and it would still get the point across that he was in there for a really fucking long time? Actually remembering doing the same thing for billions of years and just getting a bit upset about it and carrying on rather than, say, falling into a coma from sheer shock and mental trauma is laughable.

When I took tennis lessons as a kid, I went to dozens of sessions, but I only have a couple of specific memories, and everything else is merged together into one sort of general memory of a tennis lesson.

The Doctor's repeats are even more similar than that—probably the only noticeable difference between the 69105th time and the 69106th is the difference between the suddenly shock of realizing "Holy shit, I've done this 69104 times" and "Holy shit, I've done this 69105 times", and even that difference would merge together over time into a general recollection of "Holy shit, I've done this (big number in the tens of thousands range) times!"

And that's even before you remember that Time Lords are established to have an inhuman ability to edit their memories, both consciously and unconsciously, so the process is probably even more complete for him.

After I was finally able to pirate all the holes in my collections (and have them all on my tablet instead of digging them out of boxes), I was going to reread everything in order, but after the NAs I went on to the EDAs and then the first FP series, and then I didn't want to read both versions of Dead Romance so close to each other so I put the Benny books off again, and the BF Benny collections obviously have to come after the Benny NAs, so… by the time I reread them in 2030 or so, I'll probably have completely forgotten them…

Implying RTD was capable of ever using show villains in thematically fitting ways to their established lore.

They were just used to pull in the old fan shock value and to give the finale explosionfests the feeling that something epic is happening whilst in reality it was just the Dr vs. Some guy who wants to kill the universe every season.

Don't get me wrong, Moffat vomited out some tripe over his years but most his villains actually felt as though they were suited for the plot they were in.

Props to 11ths 2nd finale where he himself is basically the villain.

>Steven Moffat has said that Peter Capaldi “came close” to staying on in Doctor Who.
>The Twelfth Doctor will regenerate in the 2017 Christmas special, but he could have carried on into Chris Chibnall’s debut series.
>“It took Peter a long time to make up his mind,” Moffat tells Broadcast in a new interview.
>“Chris tried to persuade him to stay [on for Series 11 in 2018].”
>He adds: “I knew it was a possibility that he’d leave because Doctors tend to do three years. I thought that he might want to opt out, rather than go through the trauma of a change in command and maybe leaving a year later anyway. But I think he came close to staying.”

If he was close to staying, what tipped him over the edge to decide to leave?

Seems like he made up his mind that day and announced it out of spite for something the BBC had done possibly?

Chibs wouldn't agree to have Craig Ferguson come on and play drums while the Doctor played guitar.

What was it about the Woman Who Lived script that made Moffat think, "Yes, forget everything I said about no story arc this year, this is the story arc. I must immediately rewrite half the episodes." I mean, it's not a bad script, but it's not like it's some transcendent genius idea that changes everything.
