Someone should screenshot the whole thread when we learned he was leaving with every posts before crying wolf and people raking out. Until it was actually announced.

It is really looking better when rewatching, cloisters and the matrix is cool concept, but it was barely touched this time.

The Bad - There is not a single aspect of the script that doesn't stretch my credulity to breaking point and beyond. Taken on its own, divorced from its convoluted arse ache of a story arc, it's simply the story of how changing a fixed point in time makes random ¤¤¤¤ happen. The Doctor has to cop a feel of River Song in order to get time running again. The concept of the whole of time happening at the same time is potentially interesting but, as presented here, it would appear that this boils down to "everyone is stupid." Nothing about this makes a lick of sense - if the whole of time is happening at the same time, why would anyone choose to drive a horse and cart instead of a hovercar? Why would children not realise the danger of pterodactyls? Some form of time is obviously still passing, as people are still living their lives, just in the context of lots of anachronistic things happening at the same time. It's not clear to me why "time is all happening at the same time" is apparently synonymous with "none of the Doctor's friends have ever met him and none of them recognise him either. Except one of the really ¤¤¤¤ing annoying ones." Taken as part of its (¤¤¤¤ing awful) story arc, it's even worse. The entire series is burdened by the weight of a ¤¤¤¤e, predictable, ¤¤¤¤witted arc. "Oh no! The Doctor's really dead! We ain't even lying nor nothing, straight up, guv'nor. He's toast! He's not a robot or nothing! Look - we've even reminded you of this throughout the series with randomly inserted mopey bits about how ¤¤¤¤ing sad it all is! And it's his girlfriend who tragically has to kill him! She's been raised as a ¤¤¤¤ing time-ninja and she's, like, ultra-cool! You'll know this because she keeps telling you she is and all the other characters will agree with her so she must be.

Story 102 - The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon (Transmission Order - 217)

The Good - Once the actual story starts (about twenty minutes in,) it's a pretty good one with an intriguing monster. It's very well directed and the lighting is nice an atmospheric. Matt Smith is pretty good in the scenes where he's not spouting pish about jammy dodgers and ¤¤¤¤ing fezes. Mark Sheppard gives a nice, solid performance as Canton. The "tragedy" of River's last kiss with the Doctor is at least nicely played and foreshadowed.

The Bad - The first twenty minutes are self-indulgent, smug, irritating ¤¤¤¤e. I thought so the first time I watched this and I still do. The story itself doesn't begin until the TARDIS arrives in the Oval Office, everything before that merely serving to set up the ridiculously bad story arc. I think the cliffhanger is pretty ¤¤¤¤ - Canton is knocked unconscious by... no, we don't find out who knocks him out. Amy tells the Doctor she's pregnant in a clumsily written attempt to make the viewer believe the Doctor may be the father. Then she shoots at a kid in a spacesuit. The only bit that feels dramatic enough to be a cliffhanger, River and Rory about to be attacked in the underground spaceship, comes about two minutes before the end. ¤¤¤¤ though I think the cliffhanger is, the resolution is contemptuous ¤¤¤¤ing bollocks. Canton wakes up. Amy missed. River and Rory come back upstairs. This is told as a flashback as we have actually resolved the cliffhanger with a caption saying "3 months later." I absolutely ¤¤¤¤ing HATE cliffhanger "resolutions" which start with a "X amount of time later" caption, and this one is one of the worst. Canton hunts down River, Amy and Rory over the course of at least 3 days and shoots them down / forced them to jump off high buildings. He then brings the body bags to the Doctor's "perfect prison." (Two stories in a row with a "perfect prison?" Tush.)

Genuinely disturbing villains, great character piece for the Doctor, and it shows his actions have consequences in an non-contrived way. Great guest cast too.
