I started working on the city to accompany my hoverklocki last night. First building is done.

I'm going to be making a bunch of individual mini-buildings on 16x16 plates with connections like the modulars and then stack them all like tiny skyscrapers to make the city.

So how much'll this cost?

Thanks anon!

Yeah this is probably going to be the top floor. The roof frame is only 14x16; I built it to support an overhang for the floor plate above it but visually I think it will look better as the crown to the high-rise.

Just brick link them
It's such a common color that you can get it cheaper used than in a set. Also since it's western you could buy discolored pieces for less for a worn down look, though that's just me.

The first fig I built in the set was OBVIOUSLY of a different quality to all the others so far. Lego uses chinese factories (which I theorize are the same ones companies like LEPIN make the knockoffs in) for certain things like baseplates, CMF figs and one off con exclusive figs. The plastic feels cheaper, the parts break easier, the printings can be a little wonky, and the joints are loose as hell compared to regular figs. The first fig in the set had arm printings (usually found on chinese mades like the CMF polybag figs), none of these others do, also another anon pointed out that usually the danish brand lego figs have a solid color printed on their neck post, the chinese made ones dont. Pic related.
>>
>>6492647
Cool, thanks.

I always wondered if the black marks on the necks were there just to tell you what side of the figure faces forward, but it being an authenticity mark makes sense too.
>>
>>6492654
Honestly I figure your first theory is correct. At the time they had very little competition to worry about as far as authenticity goes, but now....

Chinas giving them a real run for their money in a lot of ways. Sure, the qualities a little less than original, but as long as you arent hulk handing your bits and figs, theyre fine.
>>
>>6492658

>>a real run for their money

A run where? To the landfill? Maybe if those dirty Chinese could actually be bothered to hire people for QA then they'd have a product worth buying. Until then they can stay in the bin where they belong.

>I always wondered if the black marks on the necks were there just to tell you what side of the figure faces forward,
I think the machine that assembles the figs uses the neck mark to determine which way to put the arms on, so you're pretty much right.
>>
>>6492724
AH, thats a neat one, didnt even think of that when I replied to him.

The truth is just that injection molding machines are getting cheaper.

I bought 4 CMFs and got royally fucking dicked also the phsyical quality of these figs sucks.

>no n-pop girl
>no breakfast cereal garmodon
>no flashback garmodon
>no hiker zane
>no boombox cole
>no rocker gong
>no GPL tech
>no selfie and scarf jay
>no sushi chef
>not even any of the cool fish people

Instead I get

>Breakfast lloyd, admittedly a great fig and the only one here I like
>normal garmadon, who has no exclusive prints or pieces
>Ninja lloyd, literally the same as the green dragon lloyd i have but with a shitty blueprint
>kendo kai, not very unique but atleast it's not ninja lloyd

None of these figs have a neck print either. They're all chink figs. All of them have a loose right leg. Kendo Kais breastplate is also SUPER low quality. It's the textured plastic lego used for olds bats, but it's so soft and shtity that pressing the back of your nail, not the edge, in to it just slightly marks it.

>out of all the figs I was HYPED to get, 13/20 I'd be happy to get, I only got one I wanted

>>
>>6493732
Normal Garmadon's staff top is exclusive and I think the hat doesn't come in black in any other sets.

I'm 90% sure they just added a random Kai, Loyd, Garmadon and sensei to a standard 16 figure set so that kids could get pretty much regular versions of the main characters for cheap.
>>
>>6493531
these remind me of the early ninjago concept art.
That mountain dojo is quite nice
>>
>>6493732
>no neck prints and loose joints

Someone needs to bring this shit up to TLG directly. Especially since im like 80% done with the Nin City and so far only ONE FUCKING FIG in it is china made. As I said before, they couldnt shell out the pennies to have the arm prints done in house? Or at least have it JUST be the ARMS that are chinese made? Because the torso and legs are that same almost slippery feeling plastic and the print in a little transparent (something I havent seen since I built the LEPIN Imperial Flagship).
>>
>>6493733
Not yet, just posted Minecraft bullshit.
>>
>>6493734
I've noticed it's only on figs w/o a neck print. All neck printed figs i've gotten, even recent ones, are high quality.

Also dont feel bad, I grabbed four of the bags at random the other day because I was in a hurry. Out of a box that had like 100 bags + in it, I grabbed four out of random spots in it and got TWO AC/DC figs and TWO Batman Science Grils.

This is going to be the spy figure all over again for me (I think I have a total opf like 34 of him from random grabs.....at least I got a lot of backpacks and night goggles. Also dont fully mind ac/dc fig because he is good for cyber punk hive ganger figs. Boombox is nice too.)

Series 10 wasn't advertised as having 17 figures so until proven otherwise it's 17 regular ones rather than 16 + a Mr. Gold equivalent

It was a figure done for a store opening in UK, these are always very limited. There was a german one with a yellow torso with smiley face print too iirc. Not sure where the talk about bowled mold being destroyed comes from, maybe it's usual brickset/EB fearmongering.

Not quite. It was a giveaway prize for a specific Lego store in the UK, so it was only released at that specific site. The number of minifigs was picked because that was the number of black bowlers that they had in stock at the time. They didn't want to produce an entire new run of 100,000 black bowlers just for a one-day giveaway.

I didn't even count the vents and lights, just guessed the windshield was two 2x4x2 windows because you can see the seam in the center where they curve into reach other.

Love that little grille though, they've used similar designs in a couple other Creator sets and it makes me grin just as much as brick-built toilets every time. Also, looks like the hood emblem is one of these- expect a lot of people to replace it with a standard 1x1 round tile or if they've got an extra, the printed 1x1 VW logo tile from the Beetle.

Meant grill, as in the cooking one, no E at the end. Getting mixed up here when an image has two kinds of grills/grilles in it!

Gen. Grievous sets seem to get grossly upscaled a lot. The second incarnation of his starfighter was really huge, too. I bought it because it was actually a pretty nice model on its own, but it was three or four times as big as it should've been for his minifig. They should've just said screw the minifig and made it a UCS or whatever.
>>
>>6494206
>ucs set of a prequel trilogy vehicle

You're dreaming. Of all the ucs vehicles only one of them has ever been from the pt. If they ever were going to do another pt vehicle, it'd have to be the episode 3 starfighter before anything else.
>>
>>6494179
Looks like you might be getting it. The "Robin" costume on the Bat Space Shuttle rack looks like it has full colored arms and legs as apposed to the flesh colored ones.
The hair/glasses may just be a place holder like Harley and Condiment King's hair.
>>
>>6494215
I don't disagree, I'm just saying that if they were going to throw off the scale as much as they did anyhow, they might as well have gone all-in with it.

I shouldn't complain, though. I got a decent model, not as big as a UCS, but bigger than a regular set, and for a whole lot less than the price of a UCS.

AHA!!!!

Just as I was bitching about there just being ONE chinese made fig in the city set, BEHOLD, chink fig number 2! Printed arms, no neck print, feels weird man plastic, loose joints lose points, even the printing feels like it could rub off and actually feels RAISED a bit.

Looking at the pics of what figs are left, I think there is LEGIT only two chinese made figs. At the same time though, all of the trans pieces in the set feel a little off too, and the plates definitely dont have the same....sticking power as other pieces do.

Also, new Waifig activate!

>>6494349

>>
>>6494377
Hairs new, theres also a version of her in the CMF line, but I dont think shes winking in it. The wink is where its at my dude.

>>6494378
Point is they cut corners and stuck what are essentially knockoffs in a $300 set, and its all because their arm printing is done in china. Read my other posts in this and the last thread and the replies. Im only doing this because an anon asked me too because he was curious to see how many of the figs in the set were chinese.
>>
>>6494390
In all honesty it's not really that big of a surprise that they do that kind of thing. I'm assuming that by the raised printing on the Lloyd figure, and the loose legs, it's just the cmf one repackaged in this set. Why remold a character you already have in another set or line? Admittedly the other figure is a little weird, it's a unique fig, right? I haven't really been paying attention up until now because of the Lloyd figure thing, as I've said previously, all the ones I have are fine so it's interesting to hear that some of them feel lower quality

According to the fella who made it on Reddit, it's all legit- the larger shoulderpad is legit (https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=2447&in=S, shows up in enough recent sets in gold to be only a couple cents a pop). The red visor (wish it was black, but the only black visor minifig head IIRC is an old old one with no scowl- would be nice to have a female one too because femjudges make my dick hard) is from a single fig in a single Ultra Agents set but is still relatively cheap: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3626cpb1149#T=C&C=3

Look at it this way. A lawyer in florida is suing GW right now to the tune of close to 100 million dollars in a RICO suit, alleging price fixing, bad business practices (IE: forcing FLGS out of business) and the fact that they mark up their pieces somewhere close to a 50,000% markup. I know for a FACT that some of that shit is true (the bad business practices for sure, they forced one of the last hobby shops in my town out of business by opening a GW store here and leaving it open JUST LONG ENOUGH for the hobby store to go under, then they closed shop.), and at the end of the day, we might bitch and moan about lego prices, but look at it this way.

A SINGLE chaplain figure, plastic, tiny sprue with fixed position, static pose is selling for $35.

Me and my dad used to drop THOUSANDS on forge world shit. I finally had to get out of it because it just got too fucking expensive.
>>
>>6494475
To add to that. That same chaplain figure costs them .05 cents to produce. Thus the price fixing allegations and the 50,000 percent markup figure.

pointing the light directly at the subject kind of defeats the purpose

you want to diffuse the light so that it distributes more evenly and softens shadows and glare.

you'd generally do this by giving the lightbox white (paper or similar) panels, through which you shine the light

You're a fucking idiot. You 'do this kind of shit' so that your photos don't look like absolute ass and people can actually clearly see what you've built. Nobody want's to see your dirty ass desk and keyboard, photographed in 80% darkness.

>If you taking photos on your phone which u clearly are you might want to give up now before you spend money on a real lightbox
I'll say it again, you're fucking retarded. Basically all modern smartphones have cameras that are as good as any digital camera you can buy without going DSLR. Just learn how to use it properly and you're set. And you can get a light box on Amazon less than 15 dollars so that really isn't an issue.

CMF's have almost always been chinese.

The one factor I haven't seen anybody mention on chinese vs danish figures is that chinese figures have the hands pointing in towards the torso when you first pick them up, vs danish have them pointing with the top-side forwards.

>>
>>6495244
>Creator is getting more vehicleshit than City now
What the heck, man?
>>
>>6495540
Ive gotten past the store with the big glass windows and am happy to report thT ALL OF those trans pieces feel NORMAL.

So it seems its the plates (tiles felt fine, but then again so do knockoff trans tiles usually compared to plates), the orange flag (2x3 trans orange with clips), the two trans clear tall 1x2 bricks where you drop the 1x1 rounds into it and the trans green banner piece. They all feel of a cheaper plastic than the rest. On the roof section right now, will probably have her done tonight.

I will say this.

The Ninjago City is probably one of the most incredible lego sets I have EVER built, and ive been doing it since classic space days. The amount of little details, the civilian figs, the oddball techniques used all over it, the NEW pieces, the fucking SIZE OF THIS THING (I can only see half my monitor right now, its towering on my desk)......

WORTH THE PRICE. Even with the little corners cut.

And so, the journey ends.

This thing is a towering monstrosity, weighs a TON, but is solid as FUCK. It was....cathartic to build this after dealing with a double tragedy and various other weird fucked up things happening around me, but it needed to be done.

Tomorrow HOPEFULLY our DSLR will be here in the mail, ill try and break it in by taking some detailed pics, also several pics of it on and near things to show scale. As I said, this thing is WORTH the cost.

Hell, im actually thinking about getting a second one and using it to expand it.....

What do you guys think is the best Harry Potter set as far as displaying goes? I kinda want one on my desk.
>>
>>6496062
Any of the Hogwarts, really. If you can find one. The trains are cool too. Most of the sets are pretty weird. Close to Belville

But I'd wait if I were you. There's been some rumours of it coming back.

This is radical!

If we don't get DuckTales sets I'll riot, it would just be Adventurers with ducks! It would be perfect!
>>
>>6495801
Right, because I'd buy and build a fully interior detailed mcduck vault and then display it closed.

Yeah, especially the earlier sets are pretty abstract when you look at what they're delivering.
