I thought the original designs from Rogue One looked better than the ones from The Force Awakens. I wish they used the Tank Trooper armor for the First Order Stormtroopers or, to make them seem more like a remnant of the Empire, the Skariff Shoretroopers as the First Order Stormtroopers. Nah the ball turrets on the wings aren't manned. I can assure you as someone who has spent a long time trying to find ways to engineer a 360 rotating ball-shaped turret for the wings on a lego LAAT/i.

Also there's so few decent images of the LAAT/i from the shows/movies. But if you look carefully the turrets on the wings are always a blacked out ball, rather than the clear manned turrets near the front of the craft. They've got similar patterns on the 'glass housing' but they're pretty clearly unmanned turrets.

Do it. The one session I played, we actually used Heroica microfigs, so the scale was easier to build for. If you want, just use them for placeholders, and then have minifigs for your "character sheet" with the items and armor and such on them.
