For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Balls. Well, maybe the next time I need enough to order from Hobbywave or something. Actually, while we're discussing gear, let's say I'm ready to move up from my Xurons. Is it worth it to go full SPN-120 Memehand or can I get a better cost/performance ratio going? I hear they're actually kind of fragile which is a definite negative.

Atlas gundam has a single unused unique part on one of the inner frame runners (B1). The piece is crossed out in the parts list too, so I'm pretty sure we're gonna see a reuse of this mold.

It's the runner with the sled section so I'm curious what's going to happen.
>>
>>6260312
Build fighters kit maybe? Iirc Atlas doesn't have an upgrade or variant yet in the manga and the ovas aren't going to get too horribly far most likely either.
>>
>>6260317
I hope build fighters doesn't touch this kit. It might be some spin-off MSV thing.
>>
>>6260312
the manga version is diffirent than the ova one, thats probably the reason and they will put out an ova version of the kit.

?

The only differences between the manga version and OVA version kits are boxart, the "Gundam Thunderbolt Version" tag, and the color plastic its printed in. Also, seeing how the Atlas has "Gundam Thunderbolt Version" on its box, it's already the OVA version

I wanna get into gunpla, but how they look without painting is crucial to me, since I have no space for spray cans, and I can't hand brush for shit
>>
how's the g30th HGUC kit compared to the revive

>>
>>6260462
That makes sense, but they've never remolded a TB kit for anime besides changing the colors.
>>6260499
There's a lot of changes from manga to anime version. It's mainly removed details and reworked proportions.

Use dalong.net. It has a rather comprehensive gallery of how most HGUCs look out-of box. This is the GM with no panel lining; read about panel lining in the OP guide. It's a minimal-effort task that really brings out the details of many kits. The OP guide also mentions dalong.

Do keep in mind the GM in particular is an older kit.

>>6260983
G30 is an HGUC of the RG. Same details and proportions, but articulation is dated and mostly 90° bends.

Revive is animation looking and is super fucking posable. You get less details but the most posable RX782 in 1/144.

They're both good. G30 has more cool looking variants since it's older.

If in the end this is enough of a turnoff, your alternatives are stuff like the A.N.I.M.E. Damashii for ~$40.
If you just wanna dip your toes into Gunpla, though, there are plenty of really cheap models; the GM itself is one of them.

I only recently figured out that the stands that come with Nobell Gundam are also compatible with the little rings meant for the Balls. Neat stuff.

Excuse the mess, sorry
>>
>>6260973
You should try some of the newer kits. Most of them have pretty good colors and might only require painting the details. Details are sometimes easier to paint than large areas of plastic through.
>>
>>6261006
How would I top coat them though?
>>
Just when I think I can resist the allure of Maschinen Krieger, I randomly stumble on something that makes me want it more. I really can't afford to start another new line.
>>
>>6261013
The cans for that are really small, often about half the size of a normal can. If you have room for a kit box there's no way you don't have space to cram one or two somewhere. They're rattle cans, not a compressor, spray booth and fifty colors of paint.
>>
>>6261047
The problem isn't lack of space for the cans themselves, the problem is that I have no place where I can use them. I knew that I worded it poorly in my first post, but I don't have a backyard or a garage of some sorts where I can safely spray.
>>
have you ever used amazon.jp to get gundam?
if so what was shipping like and did you use prime
>>
>>6261064
There's a more substantial issue. Bare plastic does tend to look kind of shitty no matter what, especially if you've been sanding. If you're determined though you can still make this work. You don't need the pieces out in the open the entire time they're drying; you could, if you wanted, just jump some empty space in a parking lot or on a picnic table ir what have you, do your topcoat and let the pieces sit for 20 minutes for most of the solvent to evaporate. If you're careful you can move them after that, then leave them near a window to dry the rest of the way and cure. That's a good amount of effort and you need to be efficient though.

This is the anon who was doing a cockpit for a Mock. The initial draft is on, have to make the surface look even though. Will also hide that area up top that is not covered. The clear plastic is some cut up ginger ale bottle plastic.
>>
>>6261106
here is what ya do mate, take a lot of saran wrap and cover the balcony fence, or take/make a big cardboard box and prop that up on its side then cut the top off so you got proper light.

Also don't worry too much about dropping tiny detail pieces, this thing should have already been assembled and if you are willing to seam weld, do that. basically you complete the model before you topcoat. Once you are ready for the flat coat, remove the limbs and other parts like pauldrons if they are easy to detatch and big enough to block a lotof area when spraying.

Also I suggest some sort of foam block with alligator clip sticks holing the parts in the air. This not oinly has the obvious benefit of cleaner coverage but also less risk of dropping parts.

Hec k if you are too worried about partts falling, leaving the door open and spraying the parts right near the open door should be fine due to the ventilation.

but no matter what you do, since you don't like the bare plastic look, you will WANT flat coat. I use it on partially painted kits and you still can't tell what got painted afterwards.

Full Mechanics was just Bandai rebranding a line, but Accel Evolution is actually a big new step. It's pretty much the lovechild between RD and HG, with a much greater emphasis on articulation at the cost of some lineart accuracy.

I hope it does well, I'm kinda sick of kits that can't do anything but a few stock poses.
>>
>>6261128
>>6261267
They're not part of the Maschinen Krieger lore as far as I know. Rather, since Kow Yokoyama scratch built all the original designs, there is a culture of encouraging a lot of customization in Ma.k modeling circles. The animal pilots are just resin kits anyway.

>>6261556
You only need the P100 filter if you're sanding, the vapour filter adds unnecessary restriction to breathing.

If you're airbrushing then you want a vapour filter aswell.

I use 2 different masks, a 3M 7500 series with particulate only filter for sanding, and a Moldex 8000 series with particulate & vapour filters for airbrushing.

I've tried a lot of different masks and those 2 give me the most comfort with the least heat and breathing restriction for long (6 hour+) periods, but every face varies.

I wouldn't trust the guide too much, P100 filters aren't really suitable for airbrushing even water based acrylics as a lot of airbrush cleaners will have alcohol in them requiring a vapour filter.

I usually wet sand only, working on a dampened piece of kitchen roll and wipe my surfaces when I'm done.
If I'm using a rotary tool I have a fan with some gauze filter over it in the back of a box to suck in dust, but that's more for mess than health.

I scrub my parts with washing up liquid in warm water, change the water, then soak them for a few hours. Then rinse them thoroughly.
>>
>>6260973
In my experience, it will always look like plastic straight out of the box, which is why I can't accept having my kits unpainted.

The least you can do is give it a topcoat to nullify that ugly plastic shine, you don't even need to spray each part individually.

Those 2 filters aren't compatible.
You need a vapour and particulate combination filter for airbrushing, either 1 part or clip together.
When I was testing my 3M mask I had an A2 (US approx 3m 6001) organic vapour filter which had a clip on P3 (US P100) filter, but I can't find a US equivalent of the replaceable clip on P100, only P95. P95 isn't suitable for cadmium dust which is in several red paints.
Pic related is similar but isn't to the same level of protection.

The closest all in one seems to be 3M 60926.
The 3M 2091 would be fine for sanding alone.

Alternately you can user paper, just put a piece of paper in the hole so that it covers the side of the piece the polycap goes into and it will have the same effect without eventually shreding the polycap as the hardened glue eventually would.

The project is to produce more quality GunPla as it reach the next generation's standards. Bandai will trial and will work harder to further evolve the Gundam model kits from various angles to improve articulation, proportions, quality, and to meet the expectations as technology grows year by year.

GunPla Evolution Project will be focusing improvements for HG, MG, RG, and PG model kits! This project will bring all enthusiasts a whole new experience when building GunPla!

HGUC 1/144 Zeta Gundam releases in April 2017 as the first one in line for their [GUNPLA EVOLUTION PROJECT] series.

Thin properly. Brush your second coat on perpendicular to the direction you brushed your first coat.

So if you brushed your first coat up/down, you would brush on your second coat left/right. Then apply your next coat at an angle to both, and so on and so forth.

Knockoffs take a lot more work to assemble; there are usually fitting issues and tons of flash (excess plastic). It's honestly pretty good practice for some building techniques most modern Bandai kits don't require you to do anymore, but at the same it's a huge pain in the ass.

The main advantage of knockoffs is when they remake stuff that's normally exclusive. If you get Daban's MG Tallgeese III, for instance, you can mix it with the Bandai MG Tallgeese and effectively get the MG TGIII for like half the cost resellers put it out for.

Knockoffs also are pretty good for replacement parts, as long as it's not really fine detail stuff since the recasting process tends to lose that sort of thing.

But really, if you wanted to get a cheap kit to start you should've just gotten a HG.

As someone who tried this is 100% false. A huge number of dm's parts have pegs and holes that are different sized than bandai. There are even parts that are visually the same but then you find out DM purposely made its connection point different. The DM tallgeeses have less leg articulation because they added some stupid square on the thigh and leg internal frame.

I'd love to see something white like a 78 or a barbatos or something with the frame/joints painted in this. I should learn how to paint i guess.

I just remembered how, during Try, people got triggered if people said gunpla is freedom. does that still happen?

Maybe on some literal holes or gaps and using it for detail work but not base painting or anything.
It absorbs light to the point of making it look 2d.

You're thinking too realistically anon. Realism is so dull, we get enough of that just living. Wouldn't a stark white gundam with black joints that don't look quite real look interesting? Especially the contrast! C'est magnifique! Or something in bright colours like pearl silver with this black used for a vertically symmetrical camo detail! I wonder if you could use it to create a heavy kind of cell shaded style? There are so many options!

Only when "Gunpla is Freedom" is used to justify someone putting no effort into their builds and expecting to be praised. Generally with poorly done customs that have really thick paint and look like they were done without masking. No one really uses "Gunpla is Freedom" when talking about their snapbuilds, and no one gets mad when people use it in the same manner that Meijin says it -- when they're talking about someone's creative freedom to paint something a certain way or base a custom off of a certain thing.

>>
>>6263171
The thing is your not gonna see those details or contours so you would have a gundam with pearl white armor and 2d void looking inner frame.

What i mean by 2d is that if you look or snap a pic at any parts they would look as if there are none.

But i agree you could totally go all out with this paint .
If you wanna know more then search up vantablack.
>>
>>6263295
Tell them you're poor and can only afford like a third of it. They might reduce the bill a little.
>>
>>6263321
The point is not to see them. And i understood what you meant.

Also FUCK vantablack. That guy is scum. The stuff i linked is supposed to be better anyway.
>>
>>6263328
You mean anish kapoor? Or the people working on vantablack.
Either way vantablack is supposed to be used for scientific purposes not modeling or arts.
The fact that someone else is doing something similar with an affordable price breeds competition which is a good thing.
>>
>>6262983
He said Daban, not Dragon Momoko.

DM's TGIII wasn't a bootleg, it was them kitbashing the 1/100 TGIII and the MG TGI together.
>>
>>6263348
We are clearly very different kinds of people. Fuck anish kapoor for buying legal rights to using vanta black for art. And fuck me for being too tired and too upset about something unrelated to this post to properly explain why your bit about competition bothers me. It's art, what more perfect use of a colour is there other than art? Semple made a similar product and made it available, but that doesn't erase the fact that kapoor is scum. He bought it so he could make money off of it. So that he could have something unique and make money off that. For one that's the most pathetic thing i've seen in a while, having to rely on a gimmick like making something exclusive just so that you can use it. (The colour is not the gimmick, limiting it to one person with money and legal stuff is the gimmick).

Again I'm really fucked up right now so my argument is poorly constructed, but i believe the core of it makes sense. Kapoor is selfish and either insecure in his talent or lacking in it. I'm very sorry if I've come off as angry, it's not at you. I'm sorry for getting worked up.

Also arguably the vantablack people are awful too, since they agreed to the deal. But who can say for sure. It's been a bit since i paid attention to the vantablack debacle and my memory is very unreliable.

Bought this as my first gunpla.
Broke one antenna and the left piece of the waist doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
I didn't know that these models were so weak.
Also it is full of loose parts. Legs, feet and the front part of the waist keep falling off. It cannot even stand in a good pose.
Can this be a problem of the Full city? Can it be a problem of mine item in specific or it is just gunplas being so weak and rage inspiring?
This is my very first experience and I don't think I'll buy more.
>>
>>6263400
Sounds like you were being too rough, it happens and didn't push some pieces in all the way. While I don't have the Full City, I will mention Barbatos' legs are loose as fuck, so I think it might just be the Gundam frames. if you want something solid get any of the 1/144 Grazes, they're super easy to build and a lot of fun to play with.

No idea what's wrong with yours. The only loos parts on mine are the giant pliars like falling off the skirt. Sounds like you're being too rough and hamhanding it. Remember, it's a model kit, not an action figure. And also are you removing the nubs all the way? That could be contributing to the loose parts.
>>
>>6263400

Dont get me wrong, im taking a diploma in fine arts and already thought what i could do with this material if i had it. Seriously not joking painting space, stars and shit would be cool with this.

IT IS scummy of them to limit this material to just one guy (also searched his works and i dont think he has much use for them). But the thing is the vantablack is a limited resource and i wouldnt know why they would let kapoor an exclusive right to the material.

And the thing about competition is that if semple can make this then ANYONE can.

Also i apologize too. I didnt know you were very passionate about this subject.
Tbh i dont know a lot about this only that kapoor having exclusivity , semple making product excluding kapoor and kapoor getting them anyway. What an asshole.
>>

Removed all the nubs usin both hobby knife and sand paper stick (there are signs of clearer plastic btw).

Obviously Idols been around. Boy Bands weren't exactly new when they became a craze in the 90s either. But thats the thing, pretty sure the Idol craze was never as crazy as it is now. Coulda sworn the big thing in Japanese music during the 90s was rock bands, not idols. As an example.

Stands to reason something else should eventually take over the attention of the majoriy.
>>
>>6263990

I feel like the idol thing has just gotten insane, it used to make sense back in like the ayumi hamasaki days when the idols were like fairly talented actresses or musicians but now it's like the idol status itself creates the fandom that was supposed to grant idol status. It's just a desire to be famous rather than any actual talent.

As someone new to gunpla coming over from miniatures wargames, is there any reason why most gunpla stuff I've seen has been painted using spray cans rather than brushes by hand?

I have no experience with spray painting or using airbrushes, so I've been considering moving from just building and panels to adding some paints by brushing like on my minis.
>>
>>6264517
Cause they're bigger. No reason not to handpaint if you've got the patience for it.
>>
>>6264517
It's mostly because Gunpla tends to have larger flat surfaces than a lot of wargaming miniatures, so spraying makes it easier to cover those areas quickly without the risk of brush strokes. If you've got a steady hand and thin your paints, there's nothing stopping you from handbrushing, it just takes longer. I still handbrush small details a lot of the time rather than trying to mask shit like the G-Self's photon batteries.
>>
>>6264519
>>6264526

Ah that makes sense. Yeah I'm looking at my HG Gouf Custom and there are a lot of parts.

Is it easy enough to start without an airbrush? Just with spray cans? I've been wary of making the jump airbrushing with Minis but if the cost works for the Gunpla I might buy one. Any averages for a decent beginner kit for gunpla airbrushing?
>>
>>6264528
If you're new to Gunpla, I'd wait for a bit to see if this is a hobby you really see yourself diving into before you look into an airbrush. If you just want to try spraying, I'd recommend picking up some primer to start - Tamiya does some great primer rattlecans, and that'd be a good way to get an even surface to paint on while getting a feel for spraying. Then you can either go ahead and pick up some spray cans to paint, or you'll have an ideal surface to handbrush on.

The moral of the story is to remember to clean out your spray booth after each primer session. Is there any way I can salvage this, or am I just gonna have to strip the whole part down and repaint it from scratch?
>>
>>6264528
Spray cans gets expensive quickly.

If you build minis as well, I don't see why you shouldnt just pick up and airbrush set.
Depends on where you live, but you could get a barely functional set for 200+
>>
>>6264533
>>6264539

Thanks I appreciate the feedback! I'm planning to build a couple more HGs to see if I want to stick with this hobby, so I'm thinking those will become sacrificial lambs for handbrushing at some point.

There seems to be a problem in quality of gunpla lately.

I got pic related and the waste armors are pretty damn lose, I tried using my reserved polycaps to no avail. Not to mention feet that never completely touches the ground.

I also knew someone who's Bael has lose joints.

I have a problem with the two large nubs on the white part of the wings but that's another story. I sanded it down but ended up sanding the edges and they not look uneven. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hey anon, it's me anon.

Bad news. Looks like ALL of the weapons are reused from the old GM Sniper kit which comes with all of the weapons. Yes, the big sniper rifle too, though maybe the modified to remove the holes for the hose, not sure didn't look closely enough. As far as I could tell all of the weapons it shares with the aforementioned kits is basically 2-body halves molded all in gray, no parts separation for the white parts, what you'd expect from ancient MG kits.

If you're a painter you might be better off just buying the GM Sniper II and the old GM Sniper and paint the Sniper II since it'll probably be similar in cost but you get the GM Sniper. Mine are in storage as part of the backlog so we'll see.
>>
So I'll be painting for the first time on my group build kit. I'm going to just do a basic build and paintjob of Shining Gundam since I wanted to build that kit anyway. I think I'm going to stick to the paint job from the show but give it a more metallic look. What paints would be good for this? I don't have a compressor so I'm just going to be using rattle cans. I use Tamyia to topcoat so I'm used to that.

Another thing, will I need to gloss coat after painting in order to panel line and detail? Then apply the matte topcoat? Sorry, I'm new and painting is scary to me.
