I posted this in the last thread but didn't get responses. (Sorry)

I made a decal design for a WW2 American. A local print shop just melted the waterslide paper and my printer sucks.

Any tricks or ideas on how to get this printed?

Something I never considered doing before I started reading /lg/ was buying sets just for the pieces in them, and not for the full sets. Never built MOCs before is probably the reason... I'm trying to bring myself out of my dark ages, any advice for collecting?
>>
>>6240775
I typically only do that if I really want the figs yet don't like or am otherwise indifferent about the rest of the set.

Sadly, while I find I can typically embellish sets well enough my MOC skills suck. Not quite as bad as the guy in the Lego Movie, but pretty damn close.
>>
>>6240775
Buying sets is still a great way to get pieces and spark your creative juices.
I recently came out myself, and I started with buying sets and mainly building them by the book. Then later I modified them bit by bit until I really made them mine.
Now I do MOC stuff from scratch. Its still pretty simple stuff, but it helps to steal little tricks from actual sets here and there. And like anything, it comes with practice.
I also try and bricklink parts more, but sometimes it helps to have a pre-made set of parts in a cohesive color scheme.
>>
>>6240783
I saw in toys r us (was getting some Nintendo switch accessories) a box of TONS of creator pieces. I forget the name, but is just basic pieces worth anything? Or is it the cool irregular stuff that matters a lot more?

>>
>>6240787
Meh, its a good assortment, but its still just an assortment of pretty basic bricks. You'll find yourself wanting more of one color and letting other colors sit there unused.
The Creator line of sets is probably a better bet for stuff like that. (and also its one of the cheaper lego lines) They're made of fairly basic bricks as well, but each set has a primary color and shape of bricks to what you want. Really just browse around and see which ones you like, it all depends on what you like building.
>>
>>6240789
There's a disappointing lack of sharks with figs and shit inside of them
>>
>>6240775
An easy way to get into moccing is modifying existing sets. I'd get into watching some reviewers (i like jang) to see what's out or coming out and combine it with looking through inventories of parts on sites like bricklink.
Try to buy sets specifically to get closer to one goal project. Either you look for sets with parts or colours that fit your idea or you might een look through sets to see what you can combine several of them into.

Trying to get handy in LDD or the new Stud.io is what others do. You can build with a lot of bricks you don't currently have, but structural stability is something to keep in mind when you don't have a model in hand. Also keep in mind not all pieces in LDD atleast might not existin all colours or viceversa.

But mind you getting a real specific moc or idea to life will probably need the powers of bricklink to get those very specific pieces you need that are either not out yet or in very expensive sets.

Happy moccing!

I think it's why some people prefer digital building, either it's LDD or even Lego Worlds or Minecraft, but the potential for infinite building material or just having all these parts without consuming tons of your money is offset by not having what you create as a tangible object. You can't actually hold it.

Not that anon, but I personally don't think I ever got out of my childhood design phase. I actually had a ton of bricks to work with having had the family lego collection pass down to me, although this was in the 90s. I had mostly basic bricks without a great deal of the really cool and useful pieces for making more advanced construction.

Anyway rather than build actual buildings I mostly juts hinted at where walls were. 1 or 2 bricks high, mere suggestions. Okay I was never going to build a damn roof since I wanted access to the insides, but it's still pretty bad. Coming out of my dark ages I still have the family collection and more cool shit now, but I still find myself with the Lego equivalent of writer's block. Sucks because I'm a creative person. I guess brick modeling isn't part of that skillset. I probably just need to find some time to fool around and get into a grove. Also wouldn't hurt if I'd organize better. I've got tons of parts but it's harder to visualize when most of them are mixed together. You've go to know and often see what you have to work with, right?

Definately sort your lego collection then, it will make it way faster to experiment and get something together and also gives a better overview of what you have.
It doesn't have to be super specific if you are just starting out, but atleast all 2>wide bricks in a tub and all different 1wide bricks per length.
Use whatever system you like, but i'd advice against sorting by colour unless you have a very very small collection of one said colour. It is a bit of a pain to find a 1x1 plate in a big bag of uni-coloured bricks than it is to find one colour in a smaller tray of multicoloured 1x1 plates.

>tfw Bricklink seller is bullying you

I made a order couple of weeks back, it hasn't been shipped yet. I sent a message to them asking what the shit is going on and they haven't even read it yet, despite being online.
>>
>>6240919
I always more-or-less have considered MOC to be a higher quality custom build than just throwing bricks together. You wouldn't put a 6-year-old's art class projects in a museum.

I also never considered modding to be MOCing. Not saying that it isn't, but the thought never crossed my mind. I only ever went by the book when building sets. Still do on the four or five sets I've gotten in the past 3 years.

I (my mom) bought Lego sets that were big and extravagant display pieces. USS Constellation, 787 Dreamliner, big Technic cars, stuff like that. But I'm looking back at that now and realizing some of the real fun is just breaking the rules sometimes.

Hey guys, maybe some of you remember the Vikavolt LDD model I was working on last month. I recieved a good chunk of the remaining pieces today from LEGO Brick and pieces, so I figured I would post some picture of the project.

The head was obviously pretty hard to design, as always for me since I was never 100% satisfied with any variant I was finding until the one you can see here.

Also, there are still many placeholders since there was modifications done after I ordered the first batches of pieces, so for example, the 1x1 tiles Under the trans yellow plates from the eyes will be orange, like the lower part of the "mouth". Still not sure how I want to do the wings, I was planning on doing them from a softer plastic, like the ant from the Ant-man set.

And finally, here is a picture from the top, since it's one of the most important angles to me, and it had to look right when looked at like that. Pretty satisfied, the model isn't perfect, but I think most of the shapes are there.

So how about it, /lg/ ? What do you think ?

If you want to do it dumb you could get the space suit from the new set and a dog head
You could also just brickbuild a whitedog spacesuit and find a dog head that is unattached
This is assuming you want a minifig scale one
>>
Does posing figs stress the parts to a significant degree?
For example, if in a diorama you have a guy standing on one foot over a ledge, or hanging onto something with one hand. And this would be for probably a couple months until I restructure my lego city
>>
>>6241613
I wouldn't think so. The hands are made to hold onto anything of the right circumference, and the feet are probably molded to the same tolerances as bricks. Would probably be no worse than leaving a set built for the same amount of time.

Queen from series 15 is a good example of something else. Have to be narrower though. Don't know why they can't make all dresses like that.
>>
>>6241701
sorry, I meant lately relative to how long lego has been around.

but yeah. It's like the make an effort to make different head molds, different torsos, different arm molds, hands (in the case of cyborgs or hook hands), even different legs (peg legs), but they can't give us a different mold for dresses.

But I guess these will do for now.

The good side is, it's an easy feel when looking for specific minifigs in those blind bags.

It's not like we don't already know what they could do instead. They could either make a unique dress wedge with normal minifig inserts just like these, the standard for minifig legs anyway, OR if they prefer the wedge because the flat surface is so much easier to print on they could make a unique wedge with minifig leg pegs. They're just using an existing mold because they don't see enough reason to make a new mold, even if it would be nice.

My Lego Idea. But really a good old-school castle theme. Lion/Crusader knights, Black Falcons, Black Knights, and my favorite, Royal Knights.

thats just my guess anyways. I doubt it'll have a huge shelf life, and even if the movie doesn't do amazingly, people will like it for the obscurity.
compared to something like the disney castle though, we had a LINE when we got it back in stock, it stretched out past multiple stores. LEGO has had to make a huge production run of that set because of how popular it is been.

I came up with two at work, today:

>A scientific space expedition crash lands on a mysterious planet which underwent an Extinction Level Event. Now, the explorers must find a way to combine recovered parts of their spacecraft and technology with alien artifacts to survive the harsh conditions of their new home.

>A redux of Monster Fighters, but the monsters are the heroes this time around. The descendants of the original monsters live a peaceful existence in the hamlet of Grabstein until "strange beings" (based on characters from fairy tales) begin emerging from the Black Forest on the outskirts of town. The Three Little Pigs vs. Werewolf! Beauty's Beast vs. Frankenstein's Monster! Er... Goldilocks and The Three Bears meet the Mummy!

The second idea needs a little more work...

Art is subjective. Those faces look fine for what they are, hell, they are even a unique style that doesnt go overboard with any kind of "anime" aesthetic, or doesnt travel into "Tony Stark Downey Face" syndrome like many of the straight knockoffs do.

>using art as a term that has inherent (superior) value
>the whole artschool thing just because he mentioned he's an artist
Just because someone is or calls themselves an artist doesn't mean he inherently has a giant ego. If you draw or sculpt or whatever you are technically an artist. The only thing he was getting at is that since he has experience with in one or more trades he sees more elements that are probably or can be considered as faulty. Once you delve deeper into anatomy, the chinese tittilating cartoon pictures i once liked now irk me because i see what is wrong with.
I personally think these chinkybricks aren't full hitler tier garbage.
But the printing has pretty inconsistent styling in my opinion. The haping of the skeletal torso prints for example goes for a more naturalistic look, using sharp edges, thin lines and using solid surfaces. Yet other details make a lot of use of outlines and the faceprint of the girl has a thicker lego styling lining and highlights inthe eyes. The placement of features on the lavender lady also has some slight problem, the mouth is off centre and eyes are placed too high on the face.

A for effort/10 for chinky standards though. They actually used some imagination for these.

I like anime very much. Style is all about sticking to consistent rules, if you break rules you set up for yourself the end result will look out of place or scattered. (most) Anime styles are exagerrated and simplified, but still represent a consistent physical world with rules. When you see a japanese pornographic drawing of a cute girl giving head, but on closer inspection her spine is actually 3 meters long and extremely broken when you line it up with the perspective, that is probably not part of the rules of the universe and style it creates. Than it starts looking amateuristic.
Lego sets up different rules for itself (although you are right that these have changed over time) You won't see 80's style torso prints next to hyperdetailed licensed starwars legprints in sets of today or exoforce anime eyes next to classic smileyfaces. While highly abstract and stylized, even lego minifigs have a rather consistent anatomy.

I'm all about the steampunk and cyberpunk stuff people have been suggesting. Hell, even dieselpunk would be cool. Dystopian environments are the pinnacle of ingenuity for people putting weird shit together (like in MadMax). I'd love any of that.

Mechs a-la ExoForce is another thing I'd like to see more of? But I guess a larger scale? Maybe something I'll just have to make my own 2-minifig jaegers to satisfy my need for giant mechs.

Last suggestion: Is anybody familiar with the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfield? Probably something I'm going to have to MOC to get exactly what I want. But think Victorian mechs and wild animal experimentation. The top-dollar set would be a big zeppelin made of a whale with a gondola underneath.

I wish I had gotten into Castle 2007 when I was younger. I had fond memories of Knight's Kingdom and Vikings until a few minutes ago. All the sets from those lines were a little lackluster, but I guess 9-11 year-old me didn't care too much. Castle was a lot cooler.

I like Lego because the brand makes their product out of sturdy plastic that other brands cannot seem to compete with. Plus, they did it right and did it first. Maybe right now, quality is a little lower, but it's not anywhere near that shoddy bootleg shit. >>6242740 Also this. If you moved there maybe it'd get some traffic. I like when anons have random little chink set reviews in their own threads, but this general is one of the fastest on the board and clogging it up with bootleg pics and bootleg discussion just wastes posts.

I'm sorry if I sound rude, I'm not trying to.

How wrong can a man be. Interlocking building blocks were hardly created by Lego.

Mini-rant time.

Superheroes with more realistic takes on their settings and characters always captivate me, like Watchmen and Logan. I wish DC would try doing this with their films, then they might form up into something better. Even though I love the Marvel movies, they deal with their silliness the right way, but DC is just an awkward in-between that doesn't address itself either way.

Nice figs though. That movie nearly made me cry.

Hey bootleg anons, wasn't there a bootleg detachable flame piece out there that looked better than this one? I want to make a lego Chandra Nalaar figure from MtG. If pic related is my only option, where can I buy it? Or where can I buy the nicer one, if it exists?

There are bootleg Ghost Riders on Aliexpress. They're essentially LEGO ones with the hair piece that is removable.

>>6243105
Its ALWAYS the same guys. I have it narrowed down to anywhere between three to six anons who post the same baiting bullshit to try and derail the threads, and they do it about several topics (knockoffs one day, then bullshit meme of the moment like "playability" the next, then bitching at certain anons for posting certain things, then they just post shit like >>6243104
and then that wonderfully ripe and stinking chestnut "wahhhhhhhh IMAGE LIMIT!").

Its as ive said before, if ANY board, or even just regular general thread, could do with post IDs, this one is it. Shit, id fucking PAY hiroshimoot at this point to do it.

>but how do YOU know its X amount of anons doing it?

Posting style, use of the same buzzwords and phrases over and over again, same bullshit trolling techniques.
