I've been thinking, does the paint on the semi-trans G2 masks lie over a completely trans mask? I don't any of those masks except for some protector ones, but if so that means that one would theoretically be able to chip away at it (if there's a way to remove the dye on a mask) to get a completely trans mask. Am I crazy, /biog/?

Not painted. They use the old style of dual-injection, where the two plastic just kinda mix in the middle (as opposed to modern LEGO dual-injection, where there is a clear separation between the plastic colors).

The Masters probably rank higher than the Uniters for me as well. I wish Master Lewa had a better mask though. The Unity Mask of Jungle seems to hew closer to the classic Miru (plus is cooler in general).

This fella is supposed to be a frankestein like doctor, able to repair grave injuries on the go or "repair" the bodies of the deceased with what ever limbs or tissue it has available to him at the time.

Not being a real fighter kohrok-kaha uses his power of sonics to produce an ear shattering sound in order for it to retreat somewhere safe.

His va assistent was a once deceased bohrok va which he combined with the left overs of a deceased matoran.

Most of the pieces you're missing can be replaced by similar ones IE Tahu's mask is needed for the chain Makuta wears. Lots of JTO Makuta around use different masks instead of the ones the official model uses. They're just trophies, after all. Others are such basic Technic pieces I'm sure you have some of them in your collection. You can also check the imgur instructions and my file and see if those pieces you're missing are truly vital or can be replaced.

So I have Hahli Mahri and Mazaka, and I might buy Nuparu/Matoro Mahri. What are the best bad guys to get from that era to fight them? Barraki or Hydraxon?

Hydraxon is essentially a beefed up Toa build. I'd honestly go for the Barraki. Sans Ehlek's cracking joints they're great unique builds and the diversity among them is nice. Plus, if you were going for a titan, Gadunka or Nocturn are way better choices. Nocturn being my favorite.

Has anyone else noticed this? The Elemental Being is clearly the blue villain on the right (from the art book, page 36), or at least belongs to the same chracter group. And the Tahu fighting Blue Villain is the same one that combines with the Elemental Being to create "Super Tahu".

If the blue villain was a scrapped Elemental Beast design, that might suggest that the Toa were meant to combine with them (after defeating them?). Maybe the Elemental Creatures didn't even exist back then.

Which one of these guys are you talking about? Shadow Titan/JTO (on the left) has been throughly covered, but since you said "alternate" I guess you mean another Makuta.

Overlord Makuta (in the middle) and Brawler Makuta (on the right) don't have full instructions. Overlord has been built on LDD, so you can get the part list and some sort of instructions from that file. Brawler hasn't been built on LDD, not that I know of.
Hamoomoo on Youtube has made detailed building guides for all 3 of those Makuta.

Finally the two versions of Throne Makuta haven't been built by anyone due to them using a bunch of never produced recolours, lack of images and arguably lack of interest from fans themselves.

Vahki are meh sets in general, limited posability, simplistic build and unimpressive action feature, although the biped-to-quadruped conversion is a nice idea and I like their colors and their basic look.

I think the Piraka are one of the better waves, making up for their simple build with a solid design and coherent colors. Only issue I have with them is how annoyingly limited the head movements is and their light-up eyes may not work after all this time.

the eyebrow thing for the mask of control might be accurate, but the mouth/jaw design on it was because of its familial tie to the mask of creation, maintaining the same aesthetic. The MoUP is a bit more of a stretch, but would be cool if they went for the longer design by taking inspiration from the mask of shadows.

The enormous thing on the back is the detachable staff. I used the Makuta Visorak-disc hand idea at the time. The second weapon on the left arm was something I called the reaper blade - discovered that the Bohrok shield attached to the old Inika blaster with a hinge allowed for blades to swivel for posing.
