Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay, Amazon - generally overpriced, but you might get lucky.
>Mandarake, Rakuten - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images.
>Yahoo Japan Auctions, Suruga-ya - you'll need a proxy if you’re not in Japan.
>Taobao - some shops ship international now, so you might not need a proxy.
>Amiami, Jungle-scs - occasionally get some preowned.
>Check the BST threads, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World too.

1/12 clothes like Picco Neemo fit these, but they tend to be loose or baggy.
We need to collect some resources like tiny tailoring tutorials and patterns.

easily best zoids kits around these days are the HMM kotobukiya line. Decent range so far, hopefully they will announce a new kit this weekend in wonfes. That is if they haven't devoted all of their efforts to little mecha girls.

also that tiny liger in this pic comes with the deathstinger in order to simulate the scale the stinger has in the anime versus it's battle story scale.
>>
>>6190293
correction, the hiltz anime recolor is what comes with the tiny liger. IIRC, not the one in the image.

I think the AGP's biggest fault design wise is that they literally only do the exact same two girls every time and just change their armour.

I remember back in ButtsoShitty Pedo Scum days the biggest appeal was seeing new girls from different designers.

They're just so generic looking too. They should have really went for the 80's look which was pretty popular back in the day in magazines in japan from what I understand.

I'm not sure that I agree with having a posh-looking girl with a sailor suit, beret and tie as Griffen. The original Frame Arms mecha had a utilitarian style with big fold-out claw arms, so I always thought its main function was cargo handling. I've only done noob-tier plamo and I managed to finish my Amlita fine enough with only one major drilling mistake (got careless with one of the ears, but thankfully not very noticeable), but it was a fairly daunting process and took me a couple of evenings and the result is a bit rough. And I didn't do the reinforced joints, looking back I probably should have but it seemed a bit too frightening to do.

The engineering on these is fine and the instructions are solid so if you're willing to put in the effort and get the drills you'll be fine, but these aren't exactly newbie-friendly. On the plus side, you don't have to paint them at all! Unlike disgusting Koto paint their base colors look really fucking great!
>>

You need a set of drill bits and carefully read and follow the instructions because their hinges are lined with PC-like tube bits and washers in very specific ways. This is nothing like snapfagging and takes a bit more attention than regular scale modeling.

As to how difficult they are - one of us built theirs already and he said he was a relative noob. It's not like resin in general's harder to work with, It's just that you really oughta know the basics of sanding and pinning by heart and follow the instructions carefully.
>>
>>6196266
It may also be a good idea to use drills 0.1mm smaller than what's listed in the instructions because some joints do end up loose. But maybe it was just my drills or my drilling.

Also I don't remember there being pinning, mostly screwing. If these got rid of the annoying tubes they'd effectively be legit shinkies.

This is a good anlysis. I only picked up WIng girl because she was thirty bucks on clearance and would have been happy with her being the only one if I didn't have a hair covering eyes fetish. The fact that their limbs don't go all the way blank is another big killer, as is the overall price. I only have plans to get any more if they bin HARD.
>>
>>6195544
My shot in the dark guess was always the head of the human protagonist on a Materia body.
>>
>>6196551
The advice I received from a previous thread was not to seat the hip peg all the way into the polycap, and lock it that way with a bit of glue.

A quick question, does the peg on figma stands fit the Frame Arms Girl? I am thinking of buying Stylet but her included stand is kind of shit from what I see, can't pose her flying and stuff like that.

Materia is great.
I was going to pass on it, but found it on sale, and figured I could use it for parts, but once she arrived, I was completely charmed.
The waist joint pops out now and then when you bend her around, but it pops back in easily enough.

I just got my second in the mail yesterday, and I'm already planning colors. If she were any better, she'd be twins.

...And yeah, I'm the fuck-up who broke my Gourai's neck by accident, so I can confirm that Materia is ham-hands friendly.
>>
How do I deal with nubs effectively? I've been shaving them down with an exacto but I had an incident where I scratched a part.
>>
>>6197017
The only way to 100% avoid nub marks is to sand and paint.

Otherwise, very thin shaving with a knife is your best shot. Make sure to replace the blade on a regular basis.
>>
>>6197017
It's called getting gud
Also xacto is basically trash in the face of superior olfa blades crafted with glorious nippon metal.
#11 blade I find is not really conducive for modelling too, I prefer the curved and chisel ones
>>
>>6197042
How do you hold the chisel ones? I find them very awkward to use compared to the curved/#11 where I can place my thumb on the blunt back of the blade for finer control.
>>
>>6197058
I hold all my hobby knives like I hold a pen, for the chisel type I also pivot the knife around where I'm gripping it(closer to the pit of the thumb or the index finger), or I angle my wrist up so that the knife is angled in the same direction as your arm.

Unless you're a hamhands, nothing should break. But you probably are a hamhands with zero kit experience anyways, which is probably why you're asking such inate questions to begin with.

The leg pegs are the thickest of all, so they're pretty secure. Different kits have different loose spots: Hres, for instance, has very loose arm pegs for me. A coat of Pledge Future floor polish can be used to thicken a peg.
>>
>>6200022

Nah I just had a peg break once on a koto kit when I did nothing but pull a peg out of a polycap, but said peg was made out of two pieces and basically hollow, which made disassemblying a bad idea. I was used to being able to do so on gunpla kits without any problem. After looking at the instructions and pieces the peg design seems less retarded on these kits.
>>
>>6199993
I just built my first two FAGs last month and I can confirm than nothing should break if you don't go full retard
like I did
.
I built Gourai first and was being careful the whole time, it went super smoothly and I was really surprised at how sturdy the joints are.
Then I started Architect and full of confidence I was building it super fast, barely looking at the instructions. Then I learned that hair parts are way more brittle than the rest and broke one of the joints (her hair is articulated). I learned my lesson.

Just built Architect, and she's got all kinds of places to put pegs and whatnot. Also, her feet aren't as good for standing straight up, so putting her in something like a Gigantic Arms, or your big custom jobby (kudos on that, by the way, can't wait to see it painted) is ideal.

Furthermore, you can pose her long hair, and it provides a striking backdrop for the awesome chuunibyo poses that she fits so well in with her cold, narrow eyes.

Architect's feet are probably my favorite, to be honest. They take a little while to get used to, cause you REALLY need to use those hinged back toe things to get a tripod or something going, but they're potentially the most stable of the bunch. No, Gourai's treads don't count.
>>
>>6200838
Forgot all of the hands in this picture, but they are there, one set of white and one black. The black ones are nearly indistinguishable from the FA:G hands of the same poses, and the black FA:G hands fit on the Megami devices, no reason to believe the Materia-onward hands don't fit as well.

Hey recast anon. I've got a question in response to >>6189509
The resin pieces take a few days for a full cure once you remove them from the mold, I'm wondering are they still as flexible after a week? Have you tried doing hands? I'm here from the customs general, been looking for something to recast hands that need to hold accessories, and it always works out for a few days and then after a week or two becomes very brittle.

Main advantage over the -c sprue mod is that with the new joint type you can raise individual legs to that angle as opposed to both.
>>
>>6201289
Assuming they're going to be included in future kits, id still like to be able to buy them separately to upgrade my existing kits. Hopefully something will be available even if it's unofficial.
>>
>>6201304
Same. Honestly, looking at the instruction sheet from earlier, it probably wouldn't be all that difficult to replicate it. Main problem would be color matching to the plastic of the skin.
>>
>>6201289
Hasn't the one on the left lost the ability to hip swivel? Or is that not really much use on a completed model?
Seems like you could still improve it more by combining the hip swivel of 2 and 3 with the scissor joint of 1.
>>
>>6201335
Not really. I mean theoretically, sure, but you're never going to move the thighs that far up anyways since the hip is in the way. They'll still be able to do horizontal splits in any case.

retained flexibility varies depending on your resin material and casting technique. quite honestly, I can't recall any piece of mine ever going brittle though unless they were brittle at the start.

Going through my old casts, I have a piece I cast in 2013 that is still flexible. I don't recall the full specifics, but I think this was when I tried casting with cooled molds and/or decreased catalyst to resin ratios. I do recall this was made with the easycast clear resin, the 1:1 mix ratio kind. The dye used is the "castin craft" + alumilite dyes mixed, but I have some clear casts that are also still as flexible so I don't think dye affects integrity.

as you can see from the pictures, I can bend the piece pretty far. if I bend quick, it'll bounce right back to original form. if I bend and hold for a couple sec, it'll hold it's new curved position, and then I bend and hold straight and it'll go back to its straight form.

this is actually pretty interesting... and I'm now curious if I can use this for hair and tail pieces.

Liked Materia enough to get another one.
Considering a third if I can get ahold of one of the dark-skinned ones.

Architect is also quite cool. I tried masking out some spats for her, but I'm not entirely sold on them yet, and I still have the panty-transfers from Gourai if i end up changing my mind down the line.
Thoughts?

Is it just me or is her skirt really short?

Her forearms looks welded, if so, how did you paint the joints?

You didn't paint the skin either, right?
>>
>>6201731
All the fag skirts are pretty short.

I welded all the limbs I could, then sprayed the whole thing. I used 2 light coats, one with the arm bent, and again with it straight. The unevenness is covered with ink.

And yeah, I haven't found a skin color paint I like more than the plastic color.

If you look at the diagram of the sprues in the manual and the piece is greyed out, it usually means they're unused. I haven't built Gourai, so I'm not sure what parts they are referring to myself, but pretty much all of them come with extra parts.

Spray cans are a lot faster than airbrush setup.
Less cost effective, and you have quite a bit less control than an airbrush, but it's hard to beat the convenience.
I've also been building model kits for about 30 years now, and these aren't that complicated.

The longest part of building a FAG for me is planning out the colors, and I tend to do that while waiting for them to arrive.
...2 months 'till my Stylet comes in, and I've already got the paints lined up for her.

Also, You can get a FAG together in one night if you're willing to forgo sleep.

Army painter spray paints.
I'm not completely sold on their bottled paints yet, but I love their spray primers, and their inks.
http://www.thearmypainter.com
They go on smooth, dry to workability over the course of an episode of Pretty Cure, and they're cheaper by volume than most of their competitors. (GW, P3, Testors)
For hand paints, Vallejo game colors are great, but I don't really go in for brand loyalty in hand paints.
I don't have very good access to Tamiya or Mr. Color, or any of those fancy Japanese hobby supplies.
The most important thing is a good top coat though.
For that I use either Army Painter Shine-Killer, or Testors Model-Master Matte finish. (depending on availability in my tragic mountain town.)
>>
>>6202555
I come from static models scenario where army painter's primers have a bad rep.
I never tried one myself so I don't know. I'm more used to paint with brushes where I too like Vallejo Game colors (mostly for their cost/value ratio and bottles).
Anyway, thank you for your answer man, I'll buy an armypaint can next time I stop to the store.
