The fuck kind of gunpla store do you go to??? The only place I know of doesn't even know what FAGs or MDs are, much less let me preorder one!
>>
So I'm getting back into model building after 5 years because I love these girls, but I've never really used actual paints besides gundam markers before. I notice the manual for my Gourai Type 10 specifically recommends mixing Mr. Color to get the matching colors, but those are a little hard to get on this side of the pond. Assuming I don't have access to that brand, will I be able to get similar color mixtures with other brands? I know for sure that I can get Tamiya at least. This is just for the purposes of covering up nub marks, of course, not repainting the model entirely.

Any brand should be fine. Color-matching can be difficult, but if you keep near the recommended colors, you should be fine with Model Color, or even GamesWorkshop paint-pots.

Painting them completely can be pretty rewarding, however. It's worth considering.
>>
>>6204303
Well Depends

Do you have considerable amounts of disposable income to throw away every couple of months? If so play standard.

Do you have a one-time surplus and want one deck that doesn't need much fine tuning? Play Modern

Do you want the above but struck the lottery? Play Legacy.

Do you want something in between Modern and Legacy in price but with a lot more cards and the ability to play against a bunch of players? Play EDH.
>>
>>6204303
No.
1. Find an archetype you like.
2. Buy those cards on tcgplayer or another card site
3.if anyone whines at you about banned or illegal cards tell them to go play yugioh
>>
>>6204253
Well technically it's more a game/manga/toy store, but it also carries gunpla.

Look for ToG: Toy or Game, it's a place that bought over the old Comics Connection (Singapore only). They take preorders.
>>
>>6204376
>ToG as your local gunpla store
What a pleb
>>
>>6204306
Alright, I'll see what I can do. Thanks.

On that note, if I wanted to give Gourai a custom paint job, would I have had to paint her before assembling her? And do I have to, like, prime her? Top coating also before assembly?

>>6204376
Damn, I live on the west coast of the US. Even Little Tokyo's gunpla store is mostly actual gundam stuff. Nothing niche at all.
>>

>don't buy because fuck that shit
>nobody but me, and possibly the owner since he built a baselard and a gourai, is interested in FAGs because they are the "I ONLY BUILD MATURE KITS FOR MATURE BUILDERS LIKE MYSELF" kind of crowd
I-i might've gone too far in places. I genuinely like the store owner, he is a chill dude.

The putty doesn't really work that way.
I bought a bottle to make boobs just to find that it needs some sort of special spray to make it dry.
I tested it by putting one drop about 1/16" tall and let it dry for 5 hours and it was still liquidy.
After about 10 hours, I found that the thing had become dry all scrunched up with wrinkles so I guess it doesn't hold its shape when drying.

>They should've made the chin guar part of the chest armour.
On the one hand, that's one fewer titty FAG, or at least it is with her armor on. On the other, that would've made her look half decent. I'm conflicted.

Then again, Stylet also came with a stupid little chin guard no one ever seems to actually use, so if it works like that and the holes for mounting aren't too obvious it could still be okay.
>>
>>6204663

It looks like it'll be pretty easy to not use the chin piece, I wonder if it'll have a stock alternate piece.
>>
>>6204656
Most putties I've used maintains most of its shape with little shrinking.
This one's sorta like thick paint. Most of the liquid evaporates and leaves only a very small amount of material to work with.
I guess it's fine for filling seams though.
Does anyone know a good flesh color paint for painting FAGs?
I wanted to buy Gaia's FAG paint but since it's almost impossible to get it here in the states without paying 6 times the original price, I'm wondering if there's any alternatives.
Does Gaia's other flesh colors such as 051 or EX-05 match FAGs skintone?
>>
>>6203513
How do they handle the faces for these, are they prepainted or do you have to waterslide it?
>>
>>6204740
Prepainted.
There's also waterslides in case you want to paint the face.

West Coast man, if it is southern west coast there's a place in Cali around there called Frank and Son's Collectible show, it's AMAZING and I was able to snag a Jinrai from the ToyArena booth there. So you asked a nice local shop to stock a niche product, they complied, and then you didn't even support them? Dick move. You may as well go around telling their customers they can order things online cheaper so you can drive that chill dude out of business quicker. Maybe then they'll clearance the fags when they have to liquidate the business to make ends meet. That's your endgame right?

What's the difference between F.A.G. and Megami Device?
>>
>>6205071
FAG are robot kits turned mecha musume while MD are essentially a Busou Shinki successor with modularity in mind.
>>
>>6205074
MD aren't model kits?
>>
>>6205076
Both are model kits, but MD are much more built around a single frame, whereas each FAG has her own tweaks and changes to her body structure. This means that while there are some parts on one FAG you can swap for another, not everything is a match between girls.

FAG are also built much more with compatibility with Modeling Support Goods and regular Frame Arms parts in mind, while MDs are a bit more self-contained as a line. They can still use MSG parts, but a MD looks and feels feature-complete as-is, while most of the FAGs are designed to feel like they can really use a little something extra. Hresvelgr bucks that trend due to being laden with way more weapons than she can actually use, and to a lesser extent Baselard does the same, but there's still plenty of room for customization.
>>
>>6205082
is either line clearly better than the other?
>>
>>6205085
I'd say it's down to preference, if you like shinkis then probably MD
>>
>>6205089
And MD have a more sleeker unarmored body.
>>
>>6204759
Shit yes I know that place. That's where I got a bunch of my Weiss Schwarz cards. Toyarena huh? I'll check it out this weekend then. I wonder if I can get paints for a reasonable price there...

>>6204806
It's part of Anime Jungle, though it's like across the hallway from their main figure store.
>>
>>6205085
FAGs are more a e s t h e t i c
>>
>>6205055
I'll consider getting the Architect later.
Not to further my asshole agenda, but right now I got a metaphorical cock lodged in my throat from the shipping of a UW set from Mandarake; never I would've guessed that EMS would get that fucking high.

At least I don't have to jump hoops to replace Blast Off anymore since the configuration used for Movor is pretty good looking.
>>
>>6204487
Painting during assembly is ideal, but since the FAGs are designed to come apart pretty well, you can probably get away with a bit of masking for the gloves and stockings.

But yeah, like >>6204577 said, give the Gunpla guide a once over. It's good stuff.

A "waifu"is just a harem term neckbeards and neets use to identify their anime wives.

It's a custom, but not a difficult one.
Getting the backs of the knees masked right looks like the hardest part, assuming you can get the apron somewhere or make it.

It's actually quite clever.
>>
>>6207081
The cloth apron has to be the hardest part my man. Getting tiny pieces of cloth to look at good at this small of a scale is quite the challenge.
The second hardest would be color matching your paints with your cloth because that looks like an almost perfect match
>>
>>6207086
Well, now I'm all inspired to make a red tuxedo jacket for my Playboy Baselard. TO JOANNE's!

I'm a little too colorblind to comment on the color-matching, but in attempting to distinguish the two, I noticed that she has flesh-colored hands and Gourai's hips. That being the case, It's a fair guess that this uses a few Jinrai Fresh-Skin Append parts in addition to Baselard.

But I still think you could make a copycat pretty easily.

My very first FAG, complete! Oh, she's beautiful. This feeling... Is this what it means to build plamo?

She's not perfect, of course, but I don't think I did too terrible for my first model in years. She's a pain in the ass to pose with that huge bazooka though. Doesn't help that she's not too stable on her feet to begin with.

But how could I fault you, Gourai-chan? Even in your imperfection, you're all I ever dreamed of!
>>
>>6207163
Is that the Little Armory Gourai? Does it really come with enough green and brown pieces to make a full armor of either color?
>>
>>6207168
It is, yeah, but unfortunately, you have to do the two-tone. I tried going all brown at first, since there are several pieces that come in both colors, but I ran into a road block at the arms, which only have enough parts for one arm of each color. The legs are the same way. You can mix and match to some degree since, like I said, some parts come in more than one color, but you're still stuck with the two-tone scheme for the limbs.

That is easy IMO. You just have to plan things in advance. First take some spoons and various shades of blue paint. paint your spoons and take them to the fabric store.

Is there a good brand of 'thin' waterslide decal sheets? I want to print out a couple eyes, but with the brand I have, there's always a noticeable edge thanks to how thick it is. I can settle for some eye decals I already have, but the shade is quite a bit off I think, so I'd rather just cut out the eyes from a picture and print out the perfect ones.

Just went to Toy Arena. Some of their prices are kind of unreasonable - $55 for Baselard, Indigo Jinrai, and Gourai 10, $60 for soldier/scout Megami Device - but they did have them! Regular Frame Arms too, and somr MSGs. Managed to snag a frame arms extra weapon set 02 for $24 tho. They have Mr. Color paints as well, but their selection is sadly limited. None of the colors I was looking for.
>>

>>
>>6210333
>>6210284
That's still not really that bad a price, given Baselard retails for 6500 without shipping...
>>
>>6210337
It's 5040 yen on HLJ before shipping. Granted that's for the reprint in April but still.
>>
>>6210342
And it ships for like 2500 yen minimum by EMS. And since it's a pretty weighty kit, SAL won't be much cheaper, either. You're going to be paying close to 70 regardless. It's less the guy gouging his customers and more whether you want it now or you want to wait a week to a month.
>>
>>6210344
Yeah, ok, that's a fair assessment. Their paints and nendos were definitely priced pretty reasonably, and the guys running it were pretty cool. Going back next weekend anyway, so maybe I will pick up Baselard-chan then.

No busou shinkis though. They said they don't really deal in secondhand stuff, and that Arnval Anon mentioned was nowhere to be found. Alas.

Finally got all my girls together for a group photo. Hres is the only one I haven't made any changes to, since she's practically perfect as she is. Architect will be taking Jinrai's power suit in April so she can switch to some lighter armor in preparation for Gigantic Arms 06, and of course I'll be getting Hres her two sisters.
>>
>>6210462
I'll just try and translate from what I can tell.

First row first column is the kanji for ninja. I think that's all I can read there.
2nd row is fire, wind, earth, water, wood, and not sure about the last one.
3rd row is sun, moon, gold, heaven, not sure about the rest. I think the last one is flower.
the others, no idea.
>>
>>6210493
last one on 2nd row is Rai for thunder.
>>
>>6210462
>power pig
Now I know what I want carved on my sword.
>>
>>6210462
>>6210493
the one after heaven is night. not sure the one after that, next is flower...
next row I think is old fashioned number kanji. I recognise the first and third as 0 and 2.
next row, the fourth one is "gou" as in "gourai", sixth is "slash/cut", eighth is "light"...
first one on the last row is "bright"... second last is illusion, the very last one is a verbal-repetition thing, indicating to say the previous kanji twice, though I think I've seen it used in other ways in names.

that shot is blurry enough it's really hard to make a lot of that stuff out.
>>
>>6210462
1st row:
2nd row: Fire, Wind, Dirt, Water, Tree, Lightning
3rd row:Sun(Day), Moon, Gold, Sky(It's not heaven to be exact), Night, ?, Flower
4th row:Mist, ?, 2nd, Participate(?), Rude(Arrogant), 5 people, Land
5th row: Some type of tree, To break(Crack), Jade(or 9), Sound echoing, Fast, Move forward(Add up), Pomegranate, Light, Rule
6th row: Bright, Dark, Disease, Shine, ?, Barn swallow(Bird), Swift, Illusionize(Same kanji as "Gen"soukyou from touhou), ? (Can't find one like it for some reason. Closest I can find is 勺, 夕)
>>
>>6210595
空 for sky (or empty)
天 can be sky but is more common in use for heaven/heavenly/heavens/placewheregodshangout/etc

illusionize? it's just illusion.
>>
>>6210462
Left to right, top to bottom:

Nin (as in Ninja), kill, ?, secret, shadow, jutsu (meaning art or technique)
Fire, wind, earth, water, wood, thunder
Sun, moon, metal/gold, heaven, night, garden, flower
Zero, one, two, three, four, five, six (these and the next 3 are all old-style numbers. The last one also means land)
seven, eight, nine, roar/thunder (also the gou in gourai), swift (also the Jin in Jinrai), cut*, pomegranate**, light, type (as in Gourai Type 10)
Bright, dark, rapid, explosion, indigo, swallow (the bird),? , illusion (this is the "gen" in gensoukyou), repetition character

The two big ones on the side are the Jin in Jinrai (meaning swift) and Indigo. The red version has a kanji for Red instead of Indigo.

Put something before the jutsu one if you want to make a technique name (if you're some kinda weeb), or you could combine it with nin to make ninjutsu.

FWIW, Jinrai's name means both a peal of thunder and lightning speed.

*Technically, this one is 漸, which means "Gradually", but from my understanding, it and 斬, which means cut, were both represented by the first kanji.

**For whatever reason, pomegranate is included in the names of things such as howitzer (榴弾砲) and shrapnel (榴散弾) and explosive projectile (榴弾)

The two question marks I couldn't make out. You'll have to take a closer picture of those.

does anybody know how to order extra trays for kotobukiya model kits? I'm trying CDJapan order request for now, but anyone else know which other official online store does it for you?

I'm avoiding middle man services like proxy rider as they charge ridiculous price.
>>
>>6213095
No one. Like seriously. The conditions of using that little sheet in your kit's box? You have to mail the sheet itself in to Kotobukiya. Not a copy, the sheet itself. On top of that you can only order as many copies of a sprue as there were already in the box. Need extra parts? Unless you live in Japan and have a Japanese address, it's going to be by far more worth your time and money to outright get another kit than to try and order extra parts.

yes, they are good
>>
>>6213144
What about the shipping? Do they give estimates before checking out?
>>
>>6213205
HLJ does for non-preorder items
>>
>>6213128
No experience with CDJapan, but HLJ is the gold standard for import e-shops. They usually have the best prices and low shipping costs, especially if you use the Private Warehouse to stock up a bunch of purchases to ship all at once. Their main drawback is that they frequently run out of stock and put items in Backordered status, but if they have something they're usually the best option for it.
>>
>>6213121
The hands are either modded or from another kit, I think. There's a Shinki in there, but most of it is an 1/12 bike.
>>
>>6213239
>gold standard

>>6213128
it is of note that HLJ has a bad habit of marking things discontinued when they run out, even if the item is still in active production. they're generally fairly good, but not without their foibles.

sort of like amiami and their "if you cancel preorders we might refuse to do business with you" clause.

How's MMS Yoko, is she any good, she appears to be my cheapest option into Shinkis
>>
>>6214541
Frankly your cheapest option into Shinkis is MDs and/or FAGs depending on your preferences in tiny plastic robot girls. I gather MMS Yoko is alright, but you'll be getting into a line I'm not sure is worth it if you don't already have some. Most Shinki prices are immense.

The Koto Busou Shinki kits were shown off again at Wonfest, so that project isn't quite dead, and if it pulls through you'll have a much easier time getting those than trying to snatch up the original line.

That said, if you really like Yoko as a character in particular and you're getting her for a reasonable price, go for it. I just wouldn't use her as a gateway to Shinkis in general when there are alternatives available that'll hurt your wallet a lot less.

But we can start arguing power-levels and claiming waifus if you want. I'm down for a little bit of that now and then.

But then, the whole concept of you assembling your own FAG, or naming and registering your own Shinki is that she is already yours.
YOUR Strarf, YOUR (bullied) Stylet.

The idea of claiming all of them actually makes you the villain of your own Busou Shinki tv series, while everyone else is really excited about getting another weapon or piece of furniture for their cool robot friends.

And for that matter,

Why not just make a transforming exo-suit? Kind of like a middle-ground between Baselard and Hamburger?
>>
>>6215814
You're asking a bit much of a fan creation. It's doable, but I can speak from experience in saying exo-suits are tough to make from scratch.

I'm sure the eventual Vulture FAG will do something of the sort.
>>
>>6215818
Oh, no, I meant that in a "if you're going to conceptualize a vulture FAG try doing it justice" kind of way.
Just deciding what weapons and add-ons I should give to my Stylet OC is draining me.
>>
>>6215828
Stylet's actually got a ton of different options available.

What I did with mine was grab a Propellant Tank Square, a Strong Rifle, an Exceed Binder, a Saber & Hammer, and two Missile & Radomes. Attach the Strong Rifle to one of the thigh hardpoints and one of the Propellant Tanks on the other side of the Rifle, attach the other tank to the other thigh hardpoint, and you have a hip-mounted sniper rifle with two beam saber holsters. Remove the standard Stylet jetpack and replace it with the Propellant Tank thrusters, attaching the Exceed Binder wings to the top holes and the Missile & Radomes to the arms hanging off the bottom holes.

The only concern with this build is that the missile pods can be tricky to place so Stylet wouldn't be shooting herself, and they can get in the way of her hair a bit. Both of these could be addressed by replacing the missiles with the long tanks from a Propellant Tank Round, leaving you with two spare thruster pieces to attach wherever you want.

I've also seen a slick build that used the side parts of a Gunblade Lance to attach to the ports on the undersides of Stylet's arms, turning them into elbow armor that doubles as beam saber emitters.

Eh, I feel like having Stylet as my favorite fits me for how fucking stupid I've been on this.

For one, I'm conflicted about the normal MSG parts because I've been lazy and haven't got myself an airbrush yet but I don't want to splurge on her weapons set that comes in her stock colors; for two, I want to make her a tomboyish poorfag character so she won't have the normal Materia legs for rest mode but "cheaper" prosthetic legs, on quotations because finding legs that I like for her is going to be a little more expensive and troublesome than just getting a Materia on Mandy; for three she must definitely have a Free Style Gun as her main weapon; and finally and maybe a crowning moment of contrivance, I kind of want to give her short hair but I've procrastinated like crazy on getting a Gourai so I can switch hair pieces with her.

ALSO, it's my first kit but I'm kind of gifted for this because no nubs.
And another thing, just aping this guy's version of Stylet looks pretty tempting.
>>
Is an airbrush really worth the $2-300? I'm just getting into painting, and don't know if I'm going to be doing anything like weathering or even serious amounts of painting, and it really just doesn't seem to be worth the investment. Is it really that much better than hand painting with a brush?

I recommend finding a compressor second hand and buying a nice airbrush (doesn't have to be crazy expensive). My set up was 50$ for secondhand compressor and 70$ for a nice air brush. Also you have to consider if you have a hobby supply shop that you can buy paints like tamiya; mr.color; vallejo etc
