Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay, Amazon - generally overpriced, but you might get lucky.
>Mandarake, Rakuten - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images.
>Yahoo Japan Auctions, Suruga-ya - you'll need a proxy if you’re not in Japan.
>Taobao - some shops ship international now, so you might not need a proxy.
>Amiami, Jungle-scs - occasionally get some preowned.
>Check the BST threads, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World too.

I believe poches are MSG parts compatible, using a similar 3mm peg/socket setup.
>>

Anything with a standard Koto 3mm peg can be plugged into her hardpoints and her hands can hold most Koto M.S.G. weapons and Bandai HG weapons.

If you mean armor and limb stuff then no.

I would but I bought from him before and I don't want to be on his bad side in case he delivers.

Building my hamburger now. They've made so many improvements over Gourai, the shoulder, neck, torso and him joints are getting really solid now. I appreciate Koto are actually putting effort into improvement when they could by laying back and bathing in their FAG money.

I hope we get a Gourai and Stylet retooling or Mk 2 at some point. They're good girls, they deserve it.

>>6178562
How can one man be such a gigantic sack of shit? It's uncanny.
>>
>>6178682
He hated on Shinki? Really?

So who else is waiting for FAG's and Megami Device's inevitable cancellation like Shinki?
>>
>>6178773
Well, I mean, eventually they will be canceled when they stop selling. But you do know that Shinki was canceled primarily because of Konami, which has nothing to do with any of the other lines, right?
>>
>>6178773
Considering FAGs are constantly getting re-issues and those are selling out, I hope it'll be awhile, Shinki was cancelled because Konami doesn't know the first thing about anything. Their most popular toy line, and they just decided "Nah, we out." Then "Oh wait, we have an anime.", and they didn't even have business sense to release new Shinkis while their anime was airing.. I don't know how Konami even exists as a company anymore, they haven't made a single good decision in nearly a decade.
>>
>>6178818

You can also get it as an Exceed Binder.

A nice upgrade from there is to add a Propellant Tank to the set, either Round or Square. Square has the advantage that you can take the beam sabers from the FAG Set 2 and stick them on as holsters.

Easy ways to check decal types are color of the backing paper and checking for edges around the decal. I don't have an MD but I'd wager they're waterslides since the FAGs come with wet decals.

I've put mine together without any problems. There are some delicate parts you have to be careful with, of course. Some parts are kind of terrifying to put together because you have to apply quite a bit of pressure to get them together, like the feet. It wouldn't hurt to widen the female plugs a touch before trying to assemble the feet.

Total materials used:

2x Flexible Arm A
3x Flexible Arm B
2x Impact Knuckle
2x Impact Edge
2x Killer Beak
1x Propellant Tank Square
1x Exceed Binder

Still got a bunch of improvements left to make, and of course painting once it's warm enough, but the frame works fine and is fully articulated enough to match the pilot's movements. The only solid connection used is a single 3mm pin on the upper back.
>>
>>6184476
Do the shoulders have any trouble holding up the Killer Beaks without sagging?
>>
>>6184522
No problems so far. The loosest joints are the ones that connect the body to the legs and connect the arms to the body, since those have to hold most of the weight. The pilot's own joints provide most of the support for those.

>>
>>6184952

>>
>>6185020
I'll try to get some later, but I can describe how they work:

The foot is formed by the rail piece from a Killer Beak plugged into the middle hole of one of the large polycap arms from Flexible Arm B. That piece is connected on either side to one of the large t-pieces from that set, which forms the ankle joint, and both of those go up into one of the short polycap arms.

In the front, the other end of the polycap arm is one of the clips, which holds onto the handle of the Impact Edge.

In the back, the small arm goes to a pair of large arms strapped together by two of the small t-pieces. Each of those has one of the weird elbow joint things from Flexible Arm A attached to the middle joint, and those are plugged into the male end of the arm pieces from the Exceed Binder. The female ends are plugged into the sides of the handle for the Exceed Binder, which completes the array and gives it some pretty decent stability.
>>
>>6184952

Stylet or Hamburger for a first-time kit?
Stylet seems easier to paint and detail, all I need is some black and white paint and I am good to go.
Or Hamburger for the clusterfuck backpack.

Hres.
>>
>>6185373
Stylet.
>>
>>6185373
I did Stylet as an early build and wouldn't recommend it. Hamburger seems to look fine OOB or with some panel lining but Stylet's got slides and some paint she needs to look decent. That and she doesn't take to all poses well.
>>
>>6185373
Stylet is older and has some wonky parts, chiefly her wrists which are the old type. Hres is the newly-developed standard.

Stylet certainly isn't bad in most of the ways that Gourai is bad, but it really just depends on what you want your initial impression of the line to be: do you want to start with the newest and best, or start earlier and savor the improvements with future figures?

I have a question about Frame Arms Girls. Are their base bodies modular like shinkis were? Do all the limb connections like share the same engineering?

Also, are there universal ports for armor? Is it possible to mix armor between kits?

Lastly, what's the difference in functionality between Shinkis and FAGs? Is there a significant difference in sturdiness since one is a kit? And do the kits handle okay as action figures?
>>
>>6185771
Guys, what if they're a Desktop Army set of the main cast?
>>
>>6185926
>Are their base bodies modular like shinkis were? Do all the limb connections like share the same engineering?

There's some limited compatibility between kits, such as the 3mm ports on all of them, but not nearly enough as much as shinkis.

>Also, are there universal ports for armor? Is it possible to mix armor between kits?

Again, read above.

>
Lastly, what's the difference in functionality between Shinkis and FAGs? Is there a significant difference in sturdiness since one is a kit? And do the kits handle okay as action figures?

They work fine as action figures. Being kits, they're more fragile than shinkis for sure, but not so much you'll find them breaking on you every time you handle them.

If you want something with the partswappability and armor options similar to Shinkis, you're going to want with Megami Device instead of Frame Arms Girls. Megami Device is definitely the "spirtual successor" line to Busou Shinki. That said, both lines are really nice.
>>
>>6185933
This is kinda stupid to ask, but does Megami Device have any cross compatibility with FAG?

And that first kit that's out- is that two figures? Or is there just one base body with extra parts to switch out to look more armored?
>>
>>6185926
>I have a question about Frame Arms Girls. Are their base bodies modular like shinkis were? Do all the limb connections like share the same engineering?

The connectors above the elbows and at the thighs are universal, as is the neck ball joint. The rest isn't.

>Also, are there universal ports for armor? Is it possible to mix armor between kits?

Yes and no. FA Girls, especially pre-Baselard, have much more of their equipment integrated into the base bodies than Shinkis do. The limbs have to be swapped to change their armor, but all of them are designed to work with 3mm ports also used on other Koto merch. You can build armor pieces like >>6184476 and they'll work with anyone.

Baselard and Hresvelgr, the two newest, feature much more Shinki-esque external frames.
>>
>>6185415
>>6185422

Does this all mean I have to kitbash together Stylet and Architect parts in order to "modernize" Stylet?
>>
>>6185932
NIGGA I CANT TELL IT'S TOO BLURRY!
>>
>>6185943
It's all good.
>does Megami Device have any cross compatibility with FAG?

Actually, yeah, they do. There's a specific neck joint that's included to put FAG heads on Megami Device bodies, which actually looks not that bad. (Pictured is a FAG head with custom hair on a Megami Device body)

>is that two figures? Or is there just one base body with extra parts to switch out to look more armored?

One figure, one set of armor, two different sets of skin tone parts, weapon parts, hair parts. If you want both of them displayed at the same time, you're going to need two kits. Made like this to promote army building for the first wave, because WISM are mob characters. That said, Megami Device is all about the built in customization, so it's really up to you how you treat the kit's extra parts. Make a two toned tabby cat sniper grapple, for all I care.
>>
>>6185952
You could just get Stylet and the 2nd BD if you want to "modernize" her. Albeit that'll cost you more, but at least you got a neat BD, extra hair parts, and some cool weapons from it.
>>

It works, but you have to realize that Frame Arms Girls and Megami Device faces have the opposite peg/slot style, so it'll essentially only be held there by the front of the hair. You're going to have to make some sort of adapter or just use some poster tack to stick it on if you want it to be more than just that.

I thought I would try my hand at this.
It turns out Comic Anon has a pretty difficult job.
Please enjoy my fail.
An actual Frame Arms Girl was harmed in the course of making this comic, so I did what I could to salvage the punch-line.

Gourai has been given a rare-earth magnet for a neck joint since, and is making an exemplary recovery.

lol oh wow, that's so creative.

You not only failed at making a comic, you also broke your gourai in the process??

Anon, I feel bad for you.

What did you use to paint your Baselard btw? I wanted that kind of matte look for mine; when I stop being lazy and buy one that is.

Army Painter red and white primer are the main colors, with an Army Painter matte finisher liberally applied once all the linework and touch-ups were done.

Thousands of hours wasted in MSPaint, toys broken, and zen disturbed all in the quest for Original Content. I feel bad, yet regret nothing. Weird.

Anyone else try recasting with blue stuff yet? I got some recently and tried making some more wrist joints for my Materia but my first attempt didn't go so well. Not sure if its the type of putty I used or if it just wouldn't be rigid/sturdy at that size, but I'll give it another shot tomorrow. The bluestuff itself seems to work great, I just need more practice making good molds that'll line up properly.
>>
>>6187165
Don't the little armory kits come with wrist joints?
I don't think it's a good idea to cast that kind of small pieces just like that.
>>
>>6186698
Fucking hell they're cute.

I know that material. It's kinda shit for anything other than prototypes.

That red turned out very good, smooth and flat. The black lines, on the other hand, looks clumsy.

Yeah, it's probably time to replace my old Micron pen.
And stop using it on paint that hasn't fully cured yet.
I'm still getting used to the idea of using the camera to find flaws on the model. It's a very humbling experience.

Got my 3 nude bodies via taobao consolidation. Placed the order on about the 6th received it yesterday (the 16th). There was a 2 day delay due to being shipped via UPS to a PO Box but taobao still made sure it got to me by calling me. I used google translate to order the 3 bodies for 310yuan then paid 110 for shipping to the USA. Total $46.54 + $16.46 = $63.00, no proxy/middleman.

Contd.

These things are painted flawlessly. There's definitely an intentional butthole with a subtle, swollen rectum bulge. As an assman, anal addict, and lover of tight, smooth, aesthetic buttholes, this is an enormous turn-on.
>>
>>6187426
I'm only pointing that to help you improve. Painting a large flat surface is harder than painting lines in the receses, so you should only try more.
>>
>>6187477
I appreciate it.
There's no point in posting pictures online if you aren't ready for criticism. I'm trying new things with every model.
Architect, which I'm just putting the finishing touches on now, was panel-lined entirely with brush-on ink, using no black whatsoever.
The results are interesting, I hope to share soon.

I appreciate the C&C, sempai.

I'm really enjoying these new faceplates on the megami device. they're easier to cast since all the pegs are straight. the sniper light skin tone is fairly straightforward to replicate.

lots of flash since I'm filling each open half before closing the molds to make sure there are no bubbles since the noses and small peg holes can be pretty risky. sanding with 800 grit then 2000 grit comes out smooth.

basic ingredients used are
1) Casting Silicone: Alumilite quick set mold or Smooth on oomoo 30 casting silicone.

2) alumilite amazing casting resin (white)

3) alumilite resin dye caucasian

Thoughts: the alumilite molds will likely last longer and creates less bubbles but the white color makes it hard to spot imperfections and dust prior to injecting the resin. A good choice if that's all you have near you, or have a craft store 40% coupon. One pack at $15 will replicate all 6 heads. Smooth on is pricier and quicker expiration date, but easier to see imperfections with. You really gotta go after bubbles when creating the mold tho, and reinforce weak areas to prevent tearing b/c the silicone is weaker with the oomoo 30. I would've preferred 25, but they didn't tell me they were sold out, resulting in me losing a weekend - which is rough when your career only gives one 2 weekends a month. I ended up canceling my order for oomoo 25 and picking up the oomoo 30 locally.

the alumilite casting resin is finicky but I had the resin and dye locally as well and several 40-50% off coupons. You really have to make sure you mix and scrape the cup sides well or else they dont cure fully. otherwise it's 1-2 drops of alumilite caucasian dye and 15 total ml's of resin to get a close color tone. You waste half the resin, but I've noticed that smaller mixing amounts lead to less curing since the chemicals don't get enough interaction.

gonna try to pastel the cheeks, decal the eyes, and matte spray when complete. we'll see how that comes out. I'm really new to decals.

oh and I totally skipped the legos this time. I just used cardboard cut up into 2x2 squares, mask tape to the insides and then mask taped down to a cardboard base.

I had donated my legos away before I moved, and didn't want to buy all new ones from the store. the legos just seemed unnecessary and an extra cost. Tho I do have a set of lego knock offs enroute from alieexpress... 100 pieces for 7 bucks...

Just got word from Muscuto as to what's been going on. The neck pin is frankly FRAGILE.
It does not hold up to basic posing. Baselard and later FAGs have a stouter pin, but I've got Stylet coming in the mail, and I'm already considering ways to replace the neck pin.

>>6187649
I replaced the neck pin with a rare-earth magnet. I can accidentally nudge her head off now, but her ability to look sideways is unprecedented.
>>
>>6188801
I guess I'm just confused because I have a Gourai and I actually tried to force her neck further down on the peg because I didn't know about the little gap at the bottom and thought it wasn't on all the way and it still didn't break.
You fucked up.

Pretty good results considering
>oomoo
>not undergated

You might want to use rubber bands to squeeze the halves closer together to avoid the flash. Gel cleaner really helps with dust. Same company that makes Oomoo makes all kinds of resin and silicones that are superior to Alumilite. Oomoo itself is kinda shit though.

>>6188944

the alumilite white resin shown here >>6187837
has a shore hardness of ~75D and 4500 psi. The pieces have the hardness to take to sanding well, but also the flexibility to hug the head slot for a firm hold. Feels like an in between of abs and ps plastic. I just took one of the test pieces and tried to snap it in half by bending it over a table and twisting with my hands - it holds its shape without giving. ended up poking my thumb in the process... I think I see a small bit of bruising under the skin... but yeah, it's pretty durable.

commercially, alumilite and oomoo are the major brands here in the states so I work with either. there are the individual stores that sell directly, but then I can't use cashback or coupon options. I'll accept alumilite and oomoo since I can get them at 30-50% off the retail price year round.

as far as undergating; why would I use it for these faces? They're not half pieces that are going to be seen 360 degrees. Undergating seems like a real roundabout way to make something simple more complicated.

gel cleaner is additional wasteful cost in this setting. I prefer eyeballing and blowing with my mouth.

I do use rubber bands, but it's the set up. the small edges are huge bubble magnets, like the nose, mouth, teeth, back slot. if you look at the house, even something that simple has developed bubbles on the front and back roof, and left wall. I didn't want any bubbles at all on the face or back so I prepoured with excess then closed the halves together, kinda like making sandwiches. The resin has a 3 minute work time and I wanted to minimize resin waste, so this allowed me to accurately pour and address any bubbles for 5 pieces each pour. less waste means that $15 bucks of resin will last me about 50+ faces.

I've gotten pretty price conscientious when it comes to casting since I'm also now airbrushing and buying like 2-4 of each megami device release. The little costs build up into things you could've put money into otherwise like custom metal parts, small jackets, etc.

I see flash as the least of my concerns, since I was going to take the pieces to sandpaper regardless to ensure each piece had smooth edges.
>>
these megami device joints are extremely tight
I sanded them down a bit to acceptably stiff. it's a nice feeling though, I'd rather stiff than loose action figures that fall out of pose by just holding them in your hand. which sadly was the case with shinkis
>>
>>6189509
Thanks.
Does the resin's durability depends on the brand? I can't get that specific brand where I live but I can get polyurethane resin.
>>
Not sure if this is a dumb question. Does the Spiral Crusher fit on FAG's arm swivel?
