Lego General FAQ/Guide:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YVt-4sibEMFOU8H484MpB-K6rNla5SIYdHZG8lyCHLQ/edit?usp=sharing

Remember to take a whirl at one of these June challenges anons:
>Build a minifigure of a Star Wars character that doesn't already have one.
>Build a robot command centre. You figure out what it's supposed to be a robot or command them!
>Build something that's mostly Lego but uses some third party/off brand pieces.
>Build a brick-built wheelchair that looks better than the one in 60134.
>Build something based off of another anon's MOC.
>Fenimiminismninimism- Give your female figs something BADASS to ride around in! Bonus points for minidolls.
>Make a Fighting arena for your two most badass minifigs!
>Go to the Lego aisle at Walmart and startle someone
>Home Sweet Home - In honor of Captain Rex's AT-TE, rebuild a vehicle into a mobile home for your favorite figs.
>June Bride. Set up an impromptu wedding between your sig fig and another fig, or your waifig/husbafig and another. Bonus points for celebrity guests, full musical acts and ultimate points for treating her/him like a princess/prince with a "fairytale wedding" (fancier the better).

I have a ton of opened lego sets (star wars, indiana Jones, etc) that I want to sell. Can I make money of these sets if I have the box, manual, and all the pieces in good condition? Is there a good place to sell them?

Anyone else pick up a winner's podium yesterday? I was just released from 4 weeks orders and headed home when I stopped by a Toys R Us on my route to pick up a game order. Game didn't yet release like I thought it had so I was leaving the store when I passed the Lego demo area that was set up for the event. Had a decent amount of kids but they were mostly playing with the bricks provided to make cars, so since there was no line (and probably because she didn't want to say no to the guy in an Army uniform) the girl kindly let me grab the parts to make 2 podiums for my kids. This was my first Lego event set, I'll be looking out for more.

You mean this one? It should be simple enough to swap out the lime green for a different color, there isn't much of it and it's just standard pieces, nothing weird.

I might pick it up and try to redo that weird punchy-drilley thing on the back to recoil the other way so it goes down instead of up, I dunno. Not a huge fan of those wider tracks, I like the thinner ones you usually find in the construction stuff.

They just found a way to make it more appealing than Infinity was.

>>5743793

>>
>>5743801
It's not like they pretend to revolutionize the TTL market with their game. If that was the case they would to something more akin to what Fusion is (was?) regarding construction mechanics instead of recycling the TT Games format with the added crossover possibilities.

It's still /toy/ if only for the fact that all the packs are completely compatible with existing lego, And they wouldn't have it another way. It's clearly designed to be used in an out of the game.

Also, it wouldn't get the fraction of the success if the minifigs were glued to their bases or using an otherwise non-compatible format.

Either Lego releases faun hair with red skin or I'll be forced to perform non-reversible heretical surgery to it.
Since surgery is the most probable outcome, what would be the best way to go about this, painting or dyeing the ears, or maybe carefully snipping and shaving them off completely? What would be the best way to recolor Lego in general?

>>
How do "new in box" prices work generally? I hate buying used goods, so I want to get a good understanding of pricing so I can plan some purchases. Do older sets really increase much more in price over time, or only when they're first officially discontinued?

For example:
The 2014 Light Repair Truck is a cute little set that has an RRP of $10, which you could probably have gotten for $8-10 back in 2014. Now, it doesn't look like you'd get away without spending at least $20 after shipping for the set. In another year, would that set be much more $20? Or is it just that initial "Retired!" status that doubles the price?
>>
>find out that part you need does exist
>it only just came out

The first bump of NIB prices is just after discontinuation because that's what first both makes the total number produced finite and scarce to walk into a store and buy, aka "oh fuck thats not made anymore I didn't get that one yet I need it nao" and then finding out only BL/ebay stores have it.

Later, NIB goes up bit by bit year by year, but it's not entirely predictable how much because it's dependent on things like how good the set is or how many cool parts come only in that set or how good the theme it fits into was or how many people hoarded all 7 copies of it that they bought on clearance right as it got retired. Once you get to decade-old boxes prices ain't ever coming down as not many are available to change hands - how many still-unopened sets can there even be? - and people experiencing nostalgia of their childhood have way more money as an adult than they did as a kid.

Licensed stuff (Star Wars, for example) will have old-NIB prices fluctuate more, as a new movie or something spikes interest temporarily.

tl;dr anything that's both 1 year old and on sale price is a thing to buy even if just for hoarding to profit from later

Those new pieces they've made for the wheel arches look really good and I'd love experiment to see what I can do with them. We're finally getting the flat 1x1 semi-circle piece in bley which is great too. And all with this set there might finally be enough dark azure piece variety to make a decently sized moc.

Like this anon said >>5745190 It really depends on your idea of 'value'. Personally I myself love fucking around and experimenting with new elements, and I really like the dark azure pieces, so for me the set is good value.

Though if we're talking traditional value, as in price per brick, I think (could be wrong though) the average is around 10c per part. So you can do the math yourself to work out what sets are good value for what you want.

If you're okay with cleaning and sorting then maybe consider buying 2nd hand lego in bulk from local garage sales or craigslist or your local equivalent.

Those big buckets of pieces aren't a bad idea either if you're needing to flesh out your collection with new pieces. (pic related)

If you're looking for value though stay away from star wars and other non-lego ip's. The prices for those sets are jacked up to around something like 14-15c per-piece.

I've noticed more and more how they're cutting out plastic from everything, like the minifig-scale tools (wrench, oil can, etc) and the radio set that's been around forever now have giant holes in the back or both sides so they can save the .0005 ounces of plastic.

Hey guys. Are there any decent mech/robot building techniques, sites, or groups that can help me start building?
I used to fiddle around with them but it seems like so many new pieces have come out that made joints a lot less finicky since I last tried my hand at it.
For reference, my last big innovation was combining bionicle joints to make fairly large robutts. I could never seem to get too close to a minifig scale power armor like I always wanted.

I've seen some cool pictures, pic related, but I just can't wrap my head around all these new things and reverse engineer them like I used to.
Thanks!

Odd dimensions are harder to build than even dimensions, and there's no real benefit beyond a (possibly) slightly-more model-accurate build. Almost any feature of a 7-wide vehicle can be emulated with a 6-wide.

Last year and the year before there's been a box of 1500 assorted pieces for $30 on Black Friday. I'd suggest that. The only problem is that it's in a wide variety of colors, so you don't get too many of any one color and wind up with a lot of pieces you'll probably never use.

And a shot of the list.

I don't think it's anything to do with me using unextended mode like I always do; it's just like the other anon said where most likely there are components in your model that do not exist in Bricklink. Mine uses all existing colors and so it presents no problems. If you edit the file it should be fine. Good luck!

Alright guys I've figured it out. These are the parts that were causing the error when uploading the .lxf file to brickink. I made sure and yes it's absolutely not the colors.

Remember not long ago when LDD updated for the first time in about a year and there were a bunch of new pieces added to the inventory? Yeah well if you have any of those newer pieces in your .lxf file when you try and upload it to bricklink you'll get an error.
