Got any heavy text books from college? Split your deck into piles of 25 and put the book on top of them. Or 10 piles of 10 if you want I just wouldn't recommend 2 piles of 50.

I've been thinking of a few different ways to brew Tishana, from merfolk tribal to mostly blue control. I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to use I guess side effects of her abilities to help win the game.

And if anyone is planning on using her, what kind of strategy are you going for?

And Ixalan full art lands?

>Do you give a crap about the change to PWs (making them Legendary). Why or why not?
Well seeing as playing a PW is like inviting everyone at the table to kill it in my meta it does not really bother me cause i do not use them anyway.
>>
>>55177114
so what is the plan? just tutor for things and make zombies? blood combo?
>>
>>55177162
I was just thinking life gain and zombies. I'm not really sure what all mono black Sidisi can pull off honestly.
>>
So, I've been pondering the idea of making Nekusar, mostly building off the wizard precon as I'd be able to swap decent portions of the deck between Inalla and Nekusar.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/nekusar-first-build/

Is current decklist bar the lands, any suggestions for any tweaks? I was thinking of putting in a little more general punisher cards so its not ful wheels within wheels even if theres a lot of wheels, maybe taking out one or two of the more defensive creatures to make room for them.

>Thread question

>>
>>55177180
for me deck building is all about weaving a web of interconnectivity. to me your deck seems a bit disparate. and lifegain isn't really good without a related wincon.
>>
>>55177067
same here friendo
>>
>>55176892
The deck depends on your meta and how spikey it is. My recommendations would be adding the following regardless:
Galecaster Colossus
- Protects all of your wizards from removal and having essentially another copy of Cyclonic Rift is never a bad thing.
Taigam, Sidisi's Hand
-smooths out your draws at the cost of pitching cards for later (Kess fodder), and can kill a creature here or there.
Viscera Seer
-Gives you a way to use those tokens, Maximum efficacy!
Sundial of the Infinite
-stops the tokens from leaving the battlefield since it ends the turn and ends all effects immediately.

From what I see, the the deck is trying to be too many things at once. The out-of-the-box deck isn't too focused and is based off "good stuff wizards." Try smoothing out a clear strategy, like if you're going to use Kess, Inalla, or Mairsil.
>>
>>55177136
What're you adding?
>>
>>55177257
I see. So should I cut out a good chunk of the lifegain than? What should go in it's place? More zombie cards?
>>
>>55177290
I really like to use Inalla and ETB effects, but all these wizards have useful and neat abilities
>>
>>55177302
you could just make the whole deck graveyard recursion and graveyard matters with a few combos and symmetrical removal? it's really up to you. but lifegain is pointless if it doesn't do something else.
>>
>>55177294
its just the ability to play more than one jace at a time for instance
>>
>>55177400
Right, already were in the deck and then Wizards got crazy.
>>
>just bought the grixis wizards precon
>so many commanders I can't even
>fucking azami, marchessa, Vela, and nin
Holy cow I just made a great choice. They reprinted some useful things, although the deck looks ass out of the box.
>>
>>55177114
Are you going full combo? Sidisi is pretty much tutor up the other half of my combo and win, if thats the case get nim deathmantle for grave titan, add mikaeus and triskelleon or just google mono black infinite combos and put them all in, whatever piece you play before playing sidisi use her to get it and end the game turn 6

Read Mikaeus. Very carefully.
>>
>>55177337
Personally, I would first take the cards that would point you towards storm since you're going to be a more creature heavy deck. That would include:
Izzet Chemister
Magus of the Mind
Kess is an exception since you can use her ability to get you value with some of the spells you want to be playing from the grave. Kess also combos with Dead-Eye since it will reset her ability when she ETB (granted if you have enough mana to do all of that.)

Marchesa is also a weird inclusion since she kinda energizes with the non-token wizards, but I feel like she is just a little slow for the deck, She also requires you guys to be dying-- something you probability don't want happening often.

Vindictive Lich isn't particularly good since it's ability is a death trigger, the token exiles itself so there's no trigger.
>>
>>55177629
Ah, thanks.
>>
>>55177634
Merchesa also has this masochistic tendencies where you have to nuke your own life total when you're on the throne to get proper value out of her, have seen this happen before
>>
>>55177655
Remember that if someone goes to Mike and Trike, always ask them to walk through it. A lot of people will screw it up because of that.

Seconding this. Planeswalker uniqueness rule was a perfectly fine rule and one of the few things keeping us safe from Mono Gideons Guest Starring More Gideons. Rather than fuck with it, they should have fixed the idiotically obtuse damage redirection rule that constantly trips up newbies (by simply saying that planeswalkers count as players for the purposes of spells and abilities that target such, but cannot be affected by any spell effects other than damage or life loss as they have no hands, libraries, graveyards or permanents).

I think the problem is I see all these neat effects and have trouble putting aside the good stuff for the greater good.

Also should i find space to put in the guild signets?

Jesus you scared me. The foil is $16, regular's only $5. But yeah that's a spike up from the rare bin it was in, I assume it'll drop down in a little while because there honestly can't be that much demand but sometimes EDH prices do weird things. Yeah, it may be baby's first combo but it's easy to misplay. Another mistake: firing all three shots before passing priority rather than resolving each individually. You never know when somebody is going to step in and try to save Trike's life to get another turn.

Not really, but I find it annoying in the same way that I find the current Legendary rule annoying. If I was in charge, the original Legend rule would be in effect. The one where the first one played had precedent and all others ate shit. Fucking competitivefags and their stupid Rebel decks ruined everything. Having grown up with the rule where Clones could double as kill spells tho, I'd settle for a return to that.

I've been trying to make decks and it always ends up going one of two ways: either it turns out to be absolute shit or I discover some incredible combo that I later find everyone is already aware of and the cards involved are overcosted as a result. Where the fuck is the middle ground?
>>
>>55179245
Seems really useless right now where you can only win with Inferno Titan on the field.
You should definetly go for Worldgorger because you deperately need a combo wincon.
Grab Worldgorger, a target Draw X spell or a Fireball like spell and a Sunscorched Desert.
>>
>>55179387
Frogposters live such unhappy lives.

There are three real stops on the EDH scale: Junk, Jank, and Competitive. Competitive is expensive, Junk is shitty. Jank builds a deck that's more than the sum of its parts; garbage cards that have overly complicated synergies with each other. You might hit a couple expensive cards that are also irreplacable, but if you work hard on your jank the result should be a deck that's not totally amazing, but also costs less than a gorillion dollars.

If you want cEDH power on a budget, your reach exceeds your grasp.
>>
>>55179375
GET IN THE GODDAMN MAIRSIL SHINJI!
>>
>>55179431

Wait I'm confused, worldgorger seems useless right now? Or what?

You're saying add it but only if I add an infinite mana sink or another damage etb like sunscorched desert?

That would give me inferno Titan, bogardan hellkite, and desert, so 3 hits, seems okay. I'm not crazy about just adding a random X spell that's only good if I have infinite mana, since then my combo is 3 pieces anyway and 2 of those pieces (worldgorger and the fireball) are shit outside the combo. Sunscorched desert seems reasonable though because there's not too much opportunity cost for playing it

Pay 1 inalla copy herself, her copy has haste, pay 3 to deal 1 damage to the copy before I have to sacrifice it so it dies and instead I draw a card. It's not the best but it's the only way I can imagine using her with inalla, I want to know if Nin has any value as a line card with no synergy, IE. Is her card draw valuable in this kind of deck? I'm thinking not.
>>
>>55179587

That's not how the legend rule works, you don't sacrifice it, it immediately dies as a state based action before you get priority
>>
>>55179587
>It's not the best
It's not legal is the problem. You need to have priority to activate Nin's effect, and the Legends Rule is a state based action which means it happens after the copy hits the battlefield and before you receive priority again.
>>
>>55179587

Also you can deal as much damage as you want to a creature and draw that many cards, you are not limited to dealing damage only equal to the targets toughness
>>
>>55179494
Fireball or Blue Sun Zenith like spells are better than they look like, they are not optimal but they get the job done and also work as wincon.
But yeah, they are not really needed to say so. If you want another wincon land try Shivan Gorge.

Cut out some of the 5-drops. Edgar wants to come down early and have a lot of tokens to buff, so some of the smaller Vampires from the SOI block could be quite good for smashing face early. Also, pick up Brave the Sands for cheap vigilance for your tokens and being able to use them as a net when the crackback comes.

>>
>>55180424
I never said those decks couldn't be complex. In many cases, a properly built one is quite intricate due to needing proper failsafes/alternative win conditions that can be accessed, and they have the upside of usually making early turns and tempo far more important than in other commander games. a Rafiq threatening an infect kill on turn 5 is much more exhilarating to play against than Momir Vig I-need-to-fap-with-cardboard toolbox.

Really it's all just "original" decks that get upvotes no matter how shit they are. You can pick a good general and browse through hundreds of cards but ruh-roh you used the internet instead of having encyclopedic knowledge of 25 years of cards so that's "netdecking" and can't upvote that
>>
>>55180461
I can see where you're coming from, but I find the need for interaction and disruption to be held up to disrupt an Animar or Dralnu player from going off and the mind games that can be played with each player gauging threat levels and balancing setup/tutoring with leaving removal available much more interesting than the "I ramp, play a big creature, put boots on them, and start smacking face every turn" or "Hahaha look at all these goblins, man I'm so clever for running untap effects with Krenko". If it weren't for things like Remand + Fork effects or Reverberate + untap effects, Magic would be one of the worst card games out there.

>>55180475

>tutor for the same combo every time

>>
>>55180569
Oh no, I'm not saying for a minute that Tron/swarm decks shouldn't have removal or protection. That's just stupid. I'm saying that focus on tempo in EDH opens up entirely new lines of play and prediction for the whole table. There are very few games of EDH where creature beats/gradual grind-down of the table is a factor throughout the game, but the ones that are, are absolutely electric to both play and play against.

I also may or may not be biased from the sheer hilarity of regularly knocking out a Tasigur player in my meta with my new Nazahn brew.
>>
>>55180631
The +2 lets you kill a player a turn early in a lot of cases. Both are quite strong, however.
>>
>>55180400
That'll be tough, the deck has some pretty strong 5 drops, but I'll make it work. Need to shift some things to try and fit in a few combos and win conditions too so I have a few routes for victory other than swarm tactics. Maybe throw in some planeswalkers since they're free spells every turn.

>>
>>55180720

>>
>>55180720
The other day I played a game with reanimator/control tasigur and combo/control azami at the table going against moderately upgraded cat aggro and vampire aggro.

I was playing azami and I drew tons of cards that game but ended up having to use so many resources shutting down tasigur and I flooded slightly on mana rocks and lands and wasn't able to combo off before dying to a cat token wearing 4 pieces of $1 equipment, and this was after tasigur had died to cats and vamps aggro.

The cat and vampire played ended up going at it for like 5 more turns because they had gained so much life from lifelink

I tell you this not to say that aggro is good in edh but just to illustrate that it's nice to have in your meta. In a normal game for us, it's combo/control vs combo/control vs pure combo etc, so people are rarely under any pressure. I would've won any normal game in our meta from my position because I had multiple Counterspells up constantly to prevent anybody from killing azami or boardwiping or comboing off, I would've just drawn my way out of any hole, but because we had 2 aggro players pressuring me it didn't work, and I appreciate having that in games.

Garruk Relentless always had a G/B color identity. Civilized Scholar always had a U/R color identity. Elbrus was always Black.

So I just bought this bad boy, anyone have any interesting tech choices?

I'm thinking about running it as the commander for my Jin-Gitaxias artifact ramp deck because it's going to enable some really degenerate nonsense once my big guys hit the field. I found the weakest part of Jin was that he drew a giant target on your face, and then instantly died to removal before he can actually do anything. The idea of this new deck is to ramp as hard as possible into a bunch of fuck-off huge blue creatures, then smash face when people can't remove them without a wrath. I'm planning on using Blightsteel, all the Eldrazi Titans, and a bunch of cool leviathans, but I'd enjoy any neat fragile creatures that tend to eat a bunch of removal, or effects that are better when countered.

Dragons looks like just a lot of decent stuff slapped together inside the box with an ok base for a beginner to make a 5-color deck, making it easily the most popular.

I built Marath because I liked the art but so far she's been boring as fuck because it feels like it takes forever to do anything and I barely interact with my opponents. I have ways to interact (path, WoG, swords, etc) I just don't draw enough cards to ever see them. Granted I've played probably less than 15 games with her (and probably about 20 EDH games total) so I'm willing to keep trying her, but I'm thinking heavily about getting another commander

I like that Marath has a combo win (so games don't go forever) and can dissuade opponents from attacking me with some pillowfort stuff but I want to be able to draw lots of cards, kill/remove anything and play more of a control game with a combo in my back pocket.

I was considering a Rashmi or Kruphix spellslinger style deck or Sydri eggs for aetherflux reservoir, any recommendations? I imagine 100% of this thread has more experience with EDH than I do

Sounds like you need to reevaluate the cards you're running and maybe some of the strategies you've built up. You're in good colors for removal and control cards, and I think you might want to look more into draw/value engines in your colors.

>>
>tfw buying vampire deck for 25€

>>
>>55183037

Mairsil requires heavy build around, with almost no synergy with other wizards. So the precon gives you almost no help at all for building his deck. Also even if you rebuild the whole thing around mairsil, it would still suck because mairsil is bad

Inalla is okay, but the optimal way to build it will just be to Tutor combos and that's no fun

Azami is still the only good wizard tribal commander, if you want to build something from your precon, then take kess and build grixis goodstuff with a focus on cheap instants and sorceries
>>
>>55183037
Mairsil requires his own list, you'll need to take out like 95 of the precon cards to make him work.
Inalla needs upgrades since the wizard deck was dumbed down hard in order to make it markatable without it being $50 above the MSRP, although it was for naught since all the good (read: popular) cards that worked great with her underwent a massive buyout.

Then I figure out how I plan on winning.
Then I figure out how I'm going to get there.
Then I just play with the deck, and tweak it if I think I can make it faster/win more.

So if you want an Inalla deck,

Then just try and make sure each slot in your is being used as impactfully as possible.
