I'll post here since I never actually made an official post:

Neo-Essentia is finally up, I've modified a lot of stuff in hopes of setting the game somewhere that'll appeal to more people (and to be honest, I'm pretty excited for the new setting anyways)- so if you didn't like the previous one I'd definitely suggest checking this one out, might fit your fancy a bit more.

In a nutshell: Setting moved forward in time by a few hundred years. Guns everywhere and even modern firearms/warfare-like items. Some PoW is back in and fullcasters are allowed again, and a higher starting level.

Thematically, the party will be a bunch of people applying to become the new Councilmen of Mestys, a huge city which was a powerhouse of trade and a boiling pot of different cultures- after the war the city suffered serious damage and is on the steady track to economic collapse. In an effort to save the city and put it on the right track again, the Mayor's calling for people to be a part of his council and guide the city into the future!

I'll be around for questions if anyone has any too.

I feel that making a character that is usually from up to 2 regions away, or from someplace with known heavy amounts of marine travel and imports, capable of taking a boat there, is generally what is accepted. Really, its the fault of Paizo for making APs that tend to be situated in places where trying to get foreigners involved is hard, and for not doing much to try to actually write in proper international trade relations and geopolititcs

I was thinking to play a young medic lady for that osirion based game. Someone who can handle hot climates has to tend to the rest of those fucks who will be dying in their fullplate and furs after all. She would take offense to being called a witchdoctor instead of just a doctor. Not in a 'das rayciss' way, but more of a 'I studied X years, call me Doctor' way.

Hey guys, anon here from a few threads ago that wanted to make the ultimate skill monkey. I need help trying to find mundane items to fill in the other skills. Any ones with circumstance bonuses are great because they stack.(Circumstance bonuses stack with diff sources of course)

Then comes the class. I am stuck between Investigator/Bard and Rogue. Rogue has more skill points but Investigator and Bard have access to all knowledge checks. Is there a way to have knowledge checks untrained as Rogue?

Being a secondary knowledgaboo is awful sometimes. Sure their entire class is knowledge + other stuff, but you still like to have what you achieve with your spare ranks and stuff like monster lore/bardic knowledge be relevant.

That's the issue with overspecialization in general.

If one guy has massive knowledges, then he'll always get the answer. If the DM wants to keep any kind of unreliability, they raise the DCs, but then nobody else can make it.

But then there's the Fight Guy. He deletes everything. To keep any semblance of challenge, the DM would need to raise the difficulty of fights, but that fucks over everyone else too.

The healthiest party is one where nobody specializes TOO hard.

Magus is does have a bit of a swift action bottleneck, but having played one through a whole AP I can say it's not as bad as some people think. I told my DM, "If I don't tell you I'm using my swift action for something else, I'm using Arcane Strike." And most rounds, I was using Arcane Strike. It was only if I was spending arcane points to enhance my weapon or activate an arcana like Arcane Accuracy that I needed to use my swift action for something else.

Also, Riving Strike is a pretty great feat you need Arcane Strike for, especially on a Magus whose save DCs might be lackluster and who has caster buddies.

In that case then just apply negative levels, since the abilities they'd have would come from their experiences in life, something that simply weakening them wouldn't affect.

So if a Gunslinger wants to specialize in scatter firearms, what are some good feats to take that don't add precision damage? Also, I know some people say a 2 level dip in Far Strike Monk is handy for the bonus feats, but would it be worth stacking with Monk of the Iron Mountain for two more levels if they're gonna wield a Calverin? Or would just taking Monkey Style be a better alternative?

I find that difficult to believe unless he's using Clustered Shot, in which case your DM is a bastard actively trying to kill you and your party, in which case you're going to want to try and stack the odds in your favor a bit by throwing out some Darkness or Fog so the guy can't see you at range. One way of doing this is hiring someone who can use Metamagic to add the Darkness descriptor to an Arcane Mark, that way you can have a radius of darkness applied to any object you can carry with you that you can then pull out and make it harder for him to see you. Also consider Mirror Image, though obviously this one might be a bit more of a purchase if you're getting potions.

Adding more opportunities for the guy to miss (especially if it's all condensed into one shot) is vital if it means he misses altogether.

That's because you suck, and don't know own how to properly use utility spheres, or pay attention to class abilities.
Most all of the midcasters are good, and while Armorist sucks hard, Mageknight and it's archetypes are pretty solid

Plus, no matter what class you choose, you'll still be likely to just stick and specialize in just one or two Spheres, and even the Low Casters can Counterspell effectively post-errata to fuck the more dedicated casters up.

Honestly, the High Casters are actually kinda boring to me, save for the Thaumaturge, though I feel that class is a tad too strong for my taste due to still having a mid BAB.

Even without actually using Alteration to pull shenanigans, it's still a really solid class on its own.

Bestial Traits are great, they get endurance for free so there's less in the way of stuff like Diehard, they get immunities to disease and poison along the way, and they get Inherent bonuses to their Con as they level up.

Being 3/4 BAB doesn't matter so much since they've got easy access to natural weapons, and 3/4 casting means they can still pull some magic shenanigans if they want to.

Mathematically, there's little difference between vancian and sphere save numbers, with spheres pulling ahead slightly. It just increases more linearly as opposed to in bursts at new spell levels.

A 20th level vancian fullcaster has a base of 19+ their casting mod for a 9th level spell's save.

An equal level spherecaster will have 20+ his casting mod, not to mention any bonus he might have from his Staff.

A 6th caster at level 20 will have 16+his mod
A Midcaster at 20 will have 17+ his mod (Plus perhaps a staff or perhaps that Destruction feat for +5)

A 4th caster at 20, will have 14+ his mod.
A lowcaster will have 15+his mod. (Ditto)

So a Spherecaster ends up with BETTER saves at the end of the day.

A Wizard gets his first 9th at level 17. So 19 +mod. At that level, a fullcaster has a base save of 18+mod.

So the wizard jumps forward at each spell level, but the Spherecaster pulls ahead again, and ends up with a better save, since there is no 10th level spells to push him up to 20+mod.

Spheres is actually an awful system for re-creating the feeling of being an alchemist

There's a simple fix to that.

Just make any sphere effect they make need to be precast in a process taking 1 minute per extract (Same as normal).

The advantage of this being they don't take AoOs or deal with concentration checks, and can hand them out to allies.

Boof, done.

I also feel that's a bit better for an alchemist anyway, since you've got a plethora of different ways you can combine things, rather than making the same potion from a cookbook over and over, not being able to change it in any way.

This is already known anon. Normal caster converted to Spheres, Alchemists stay in Vancian, Psionics if you aren't ready for the jump yet or are nostalgic, Akansha for if you hate yourself, and Words if you're a hipster

There's nothing to say that this alchemist WOULDN'T have their cookbook!

But a good chef also knows how to MIX things, make new ones, not just follow a recipe forever!

They just write down the more commonly used recipes so they can remember them easier. Fine tune or tweak things.

Like which is more like an alchemist? Only being able to make a potion that explodes for fire in a 20ft area, or one who could make it explode larger, smaller, do ice or acid, etc.

Here's a few ideas:
