Tell us about your flying characters. Do they fly so good? Do they make the GM pissy by ignoring ground-based obstacles and laughing at melee-only non-flyers?

Should I pull the plug on my game?

I've been running it for 3 months, roughly 10-12 sessions and it's been really rough. One of the players actually quit the other day because of a that guy, and the other players participate in the game, but it doesn't feel like they're really invested. In all actuality, I'm tired of the behind-the-scenes drama and not having fun anymore- I don't want to just dump it but it seems like the best option at this point and I've been mulling it over for a week, since last session.

Well anon, since you're clearly listening to the whispers of some charnel charlatan I'll offer you some of my homebrew wisdom... Pull the plug, seriously do it. 95% are evil. The animate dead spells are all evil. That's because the spirits used to create them are hateful, evil things. (not souls either, just mindless spirits like those used in the creation of golems). Good mindless spirits infuse things like leshy. Negative energy is just the battery, like positive energy is the batter for living things, and has nothing to do with the disposition of the creature.

Oh boy oh boy, can I be a Storyteller or is that shit too broken for you?

http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/storyteller

Legend of Old (Su): At 3rd level, the storyteller can summon a legendary figure from the tales of old. The storyteller selects a particular figure that remains constant throughout his adventures. The legendary hero takes the form of a character of any class, whose level is equal to the storytellers level +2. The storyteller can only call upon the power of the legendary figure for so long. At 3rd level, he can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to 8 + his Charisma modifier. At each level after 3rd a storyteller can use legend of old for 2 additional rounds per day.

Summoning the legend of old is a standard action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action (as a storyteller must dramatically describe or otherwise narrate actions taken by his legendary figure after he has done them). The legend of old cannot be dispelled, but it ends immediately if the storyteller is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action to maintain it each round. The legend of old is easily distinguishable as a fantastic being, appearing semi-translucent with striking and sometimes exaggerated features.

The legend of old always possesses average hit points per hit die, and his health and daily abilities remains constant between summonings. He regains hit points and uses of his abilities when the storyteller rests for 8 hours. When summoned, the legend appears with gear whose value cannot exceed the value shown for a character of his level on Table: 12-4 Character Wealth by Level in Chapter 12 of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook. These items have a fantastic look to them, and are melded with the legend of old; no other creature can wield or use equipment the legend of old brought with them.

How shitty is Variant Multiclassing from Pathfinder Unchained? As an Android Alchemist, it would be cool to take Sorcerer with the Nanite Bloodline under the Variant Multiclassing rules, but how much would I fuck myself?

actually by RAW, you do gain the Bloodline Arcana of a sorcerer by taking its VMC, as it says you gain a bloodline, and bloodline arcana are not a separate feature from the bloodline feature of the sorcerer.

So by RAW, VMC as a sorcerer does give you the bloodline arcana

Hard to say, because I haven't decided on any feats, really. I'm just bouncing ideas around and the only thing that's surefire here is that it's an Android Alchemist with the Tinkerer archetype.

But since you don't get the Bloodline Arcana, the Variant Multiclassing into Sorcerer would be pretty shit, since the 1st-level bloodline power of the Nanite Bloodline is complete trash to me.

I can't really imagine any situation where someone wouldn't be better off simply taking Eldritch Heritage feats, since they don't get you Bloodline Arcana either, but at least allows you to pick bloodline powers past the first one.
>>
>>54286599

>but you do get the bloodline arcana

But that's fucking wrong you dumbfuck, it doesn't specify arcana, it specifies bloodline powers. You don't trade the feats away to get an entire Bloodline, you trade feats for SPECIFIC abilities from a bloodline. This was even fucking FAQ'd and it's the first fucking result if you search it.

>>
>Carnel Clown has only female apps so far
>>
>>54286756
that would be the RAI, but Bloodline arcana is actually not a separate ability from the bloodline itself.

Eldritch heritage specifically calls out that you don't get the arcana with the 'you don't get any other abilities bit', but VMC doesn't, and by RAW you get the bloodline arcana.

this is why I noted RAW

I would've left the game before it came to that, I like playing but if I'm not here to be your social interaction for the week.

I think it's partially due to text-based and partially due to people around here being obsessed with long-winded character interactions.

Don't some of these games even have IC going on 24/7?
>>
>>54286756
Its not like its broken to give them the arcana though, its pretty minor in most cases,
and i would house-rule it to be OK, especially given the overall comparison in costs to someone who wants to get the arcana of dipping 1 level of sorc VS losing half their feats

Are you sure? Because that would put the VMC Nanite Bloodline back on the table again, since you'd have to take Skill Focus: Knowledge (Engineering) to take Eldritch Heritage, and no matter how we cut it, you end up with the 1st Bloodline Power being useless.

If you'd take care to read the thread you link, it specifies the issue right there, and it's never actually been FAQ:d. Samasboy1 details the issue in it's entirety.

Mark Seifter is being a dumbfuck, because:
>You get exactly what it says you get, and not anything else by RAW and RAI.
>It doesn't say you get bloodline arcana, so you don't get it.
These two things are in opposition, because by RAW, you absolutely get Bloodline Arcana when you get a Bloodline. By your logic, Sorcerers never get Bloodline Arcana of any Bloodline either.

It's really just a minor oversight, but the fact that Mark Seifter doesn't just poke his head in and says "Yeah, sorry, you're right, it's RAW, but it's a mistake. You're not meant to get the bloodline arcana when you get a bloodline through VMC" makes him a huge faggot, and causes needless confusion.

Like JRutterbush (sorry, I said it was Samasboy1, but he's just "+1") says in the thread, either the Sorcerers don't get Bloodline Arcanas either (because Bloodline Arcanas are NOT part of getting a Bloodline), or VMC Sorcerers do get Bloodline Arcanas (because Bloodline Arcanas ARE part of getting a Bloodline).

It's clear that by RAI-as-according-to-Seifter, you're not meant to get the Bloodline Arcana. But by RAW, you absolutely do, no matter what he says.

Also, as far as I know, this has never been FAQ:d. A forum post does not constitute a FAQ or Errata, and it's never been fixed in the books, and it can't be considered a rules clarification because like I said, his statements are actually conflicting. You could just as well consider it a "clarification" that Sorcerers don't get Bloodline Arcana, which would be absurd.
>>
Why do we so often hear about how the first session of a campaign (usually a /pfg/ campaign) turned out so wonderfully, and with the greentext stories to back it up? These stories make it sound as if the average /pfg/ game starts off with a memorable bang and with minimal hitches.

In my experience as a player and as a GM, however, first sessions are usually rife with many problems: players not knowing how to roleplay or mechanically play their characters, the GM having trouble setting scenes to start off the campaign, the GM having trouble introducing the very first NPCs, issues with aligning tone between the entire group, nobody having the hang of anything just yet, inevitable scheduling issues, and so on.

Yet the stories of "Our campaign is off to a great start!" make it seem like none of these issues ever arise in other people's campaigns.

Why? Am I just unlucky with new campaigns? Is it really the case that, on average, first sessions are great, wonderful, and problem-free?

Because, you ginormous autistic shit, it's quite possible that other people DO IN FACT HAVE GOOD FIRST SESSIONS, and your experience is heavily biased based on your own views and experiences. Those first games may not have "objectively good" starts, and may even be full of problems, but a good first session can also depend heavily on the attitude of the people involved. If you sit there obsessing over every single problem and never look at the good parts, then you're going to be a miserable sack of shit forever and probably never learn anything.
>>
>>54287071
I'm used to having first sessions being a clusterfuck, but I also don't consider that a problem, so even though little actually gets done, I can easily have a clusterfuck of a first couple of sessions, but still feel like we're off to a great start.

I've never had a game that starts problem-free, even with well-established groups of mine that have played many different systems, but it's rarely a real problem. If anything, it's often a point of hilarity.

Maybe it's different in text-only games, where it's hard to laugh your ass off and you don't get a personal relationship with the other players in the same way, and frustrations may build, I dunno.
>>
>>54287071
Bad parts of /pgg/ games don't get dropped in the open. You can pick up a lot of problems whlie lurking around, like someone mentions that a session had to be cancelled this week, or that there was a bad session that doesn't mention the game but then someone else anonymously replies to it to apologize.

The bad part about playing with people here is that there's nowhere to anonymously vent about your grievances with your campaign. When things go well, one of five to six players will probably come here to talk it up, but we can only learn about negatives through rare vague musings.

I have been struck with inspiration for a character concept for Carrion Crown.

However, I am not interested in playing out any ERP under the Carnal Crown GM. I am fine with having my character violated off-screen, but I will do my best to prevent that from happening in the first place, and I want to play the adventure path in a straight-laced fashion.

Should I still apply for Carnal Crown, or accept that it is not the game for me, and wait for another Carrion Crown game to appear?

The Sorcerer class table doesn't say you get the Bloodline class feature. Again, text trumps table.

No. The sorcerer's class feature is that you get the entirety of the Bloodline, which is unique to the sorcerer. Thus, you get everything included into the Bloodline.

>>
>>54287593
You're right, lets look at the precise wording

Sorcerer: "A sorcerer must pick one bloodline upon taking her first level of sorcerer. Once made, this choice cannot be changed."

VMC: Bloodline: At 1st level, she must select a sorcerer bloodline. She treats her character level as her effective sorcerer level for all bloodline powers.

These seem to have the same function, in addition, there is no mention of Bloodline arcana under the text of sorcerer, so it must be an inherent part of selecting a bloodline unless otherwise noted
>>
>>54287511
The Bloodline Arcana, Bloodline feature itself, and Bloodline Powers are all atrociously laid out, is the main thing, as nothing appears to be consistently laid out anywhere but the archetype chart on the d20pfsrd that lays out features.

>>54287529
Nigga, I opened this can of worms and all I can tell you is that trying to argue any more is pointless, because it appears sorcerer itself only actually functions if you look at it from RAI, as RAW it's a clusterfuck. RAW anon can have his cake, he just shouldn't expect to bring it to every table.
>>
>>54287630
>Sorcerer: "A sorcerer must pick one bloodline upon taking her first level of sorcerer. Once made, this choice cannot be changed."
That's not the entire description.
Here is the quote that says you get everything:
>Each sorcerer has a source of magic somewhere in her heritage that grants her spells, bonus feats, an additional class skill, and other special abilities.
>and other special abilities
That is an open-ended description, meaning you get all abilities within the Bloodline.
VMC doesn't have this.

>>
>>54287646
Each are open-ended for interpretations. That's just it. Unless something is exempt, it's implied that you get everything from picking the Bloodline. The text you're citing is descriptive, it is not precise in what you gain or do not gain, in the same way VMC sorcerer isn't either.

It is *never* explicitly stated that Sorcerer gets the Bloodline Arcana. It is *implied* by the fact that you pick a Bloodline, which you gain all the benefits of. Likewise, it is *never* stated that VMC Sorcerer *doesn't* get the Bloodline Arcana of their chosen Bloodline.

There's only two ways to interpret RAW in this case: Either both get the Bloodline Arcana, or neither does. The latter would be absurd, based on everything we know, and is clearly wrong by RAW. The former makes perfect sense, and is in line with everything else suggested by rules text.

RAI-as-according-to-Seifter is extremely clear: You're NOT intended to get the Bloodline Arcana. But beyond that one post of him, which contains a claim that's factually wrong, called out as factually wrong, and to which he never returns to clarify, this is NEVER FAQ:d or Errata'd, implying that, in fact, RAW *is* RAI.

This is after all a known issue and Pathfinder Unchained was released in 2015, and this has not been addressed, suggesting that there is, in fact, nothing to address. The simplest explanation is that Seifter was simply mistaken, which also explains why he never returned after being called out on that.
>>
>>54287803

"Collar of the True Companion
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 9th
Slot neck; Price 10,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION

Although it appears to be a simple thong of leather, this collar was initially conceived by druids who believed that there were animals who possessed spirits worthy of elevation to true sentience. If worn by a creature of the animal type with an Intelligence less than 3, a collar of the true companion grants a +2 enhancement bonus to Intelligence. This does not give the animal the ability to speak, but it does allow it to understand one spoken language (chosen by the item’s creator).

If the collar is worn for at least 1 week by a creature of the animal type, the creature is raised to humanlike sentience, as though by the awaken spell. Once this occurs, the collar loses its magical properties.

If a collar of the true companion is worn for more than 1 week by a creature not of the animal type, the wearer is feebleminded until the collar is removed."

Now, this made me curious, what does the term feebleminded mean in pathfinder? I did a lot of searching, and what came up was this.

"Feeblemind

School enchantment (compulsion) [mind-affecting]; Level 5
CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a handful of clay, crystal, or glass spheres)
EFFECT
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Target one creature
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Will negates; see text; Spell Resistance yes
DESCRIPTION

Target creature’s Intelligence and Charisma scores each drop to 1. The affected creature is unable to use Intelligence– or Charisma-based skills, cast spells, understand language, or communicate coherently. Still, it knows who its friends are and can follow them and even protect them. The subject remains in this state until a heal, limited wish, miracle, or wish spell is used to cancel the effect of the feeblemind. A creature that can cast arcane spells, such as a sorcerer or a wizard, takes a -4 penalty on its saving throw."

There's no contradiction, though. The VMC doesn't have any table, only rules text, and it makes it clear that you gain the specific powers at specific levels which deviates from when the regular Sorcerer gains those same powers as stated in the bloodline and clarified in the table. You play a human, a different class, or an archetype that changes your skill points per level. If you're a Cleric, you get an Int/Wis headband eventually.

Or you figure out the two must have skills from your class and keep those up, maybe throwing a single point in secondary skills depending on the situation.

In my opinion if you're playing an online game, especially a text one, you want to cut out as much non-plot important combat as you can. You don't get a lot of time, and your campaign will never get anywhere is you lose a third of all your sessions to having a random encounter that eats up the whole thing (plus they're harder for the DM to make on the fly in a Roll20 game).
>>
Alright, I'm basically finished with everything except Factions, and my approach to Factions is going to be "solve the bonus details later". I might write up some details on a few of the campaign specific factions, and then just work with players on details on other factions. Either way, Faction bonuses will not be a thing at game start, though characters who have a Campaign Trait that gives them a Faction Membership will have a head start towards getting bonuses.

In the meantime, are there any other small fixes you'd like to see in Intrigue? Specifically, small and easy item fixes (like the one I did for Varisian Dancing Scarves). Post if you got some, and I'll see what can be done.

Couple of questions
How do you get pounce as a Paladin?
Why people say Bladed Dash is pounce? at best you get 2 attacks with spell strike
>>
>>54290255
first question: be a catfolk paladin
Second Question: if you're a magus, you can use Spell Combat with Bladed Dash to full attack and cast it in the same round. For any other class, there's no reason to call it pounce
>>
>>54290255
>How do you get pounce as a Paladin?
There are three class-independent pounce options:
1. Pummeling Charge
2. Mounted Skirmisher
3. Dimensional Dervish
>>
>>54290255
Spell Combat lets you full attack and cast Bladed Dash in the same round.

So you Bladed Dash which lets you move and attack. And then you can full attack whatever poor shmuck you're next to.

Give kineticists the option to run off a Stamina system instead of burn. It's still constitution based, but doesn't result in the character killing themselves to use their abilities, and if it recovers overtime, it means they can actually do the "All Day" thing.

Aren't there any bigger sourcebook fixes to this that might do it easier than this kind of "quick-and-dirty" fix? I'm all for giving some love to lower-tier classes, but I'd rather use something a little more substantial. Also I'm not too familiar with Kineticists, so I don't know how much this amps them up. >Second opinions or a short TL;DR on effects of this would be appreciated.
So basically, when you take burn, you can use it to amp up your abilities. Say you're a fire/fire kineticist; when you use Blue fire Blast (a more powerful version of your basic blast, dealing about double the damage) it hits you with 2 burn. Each point of burn deals an amount of nonlethal damage to your character equal to your character level. Standard blasts are pretty weaksauce, so you HAVE to modify it with shapes and infusions, or you'll be doing piddling damage at 30 feet with no range increments.

However, Burn only goes away when you rest, meaning it builds up over the course of the day when you do anything. Set up your defensive abilities in the morning? Spend three burn, reducing your effective HP by 3 per level. need a good blast in your first combat? another two per level. It adds up real fucking quick, and you'll very quickly hit your limit (Which is 3 plus your constitution modifier) at which point you're flat out not allowed to take more. Meanwhile, the standard casters can end encounters several times over, and you being able to do your regular blasts every turn if you get close (risky in the first place, even when you're not already destroying your HP pool) doesn't really matter much because you're not keeping up in damage in any way.

Making burn affect a stamina pool instead allows you to set the upper limit as the same (3+con), but allows burn that isn't spent on all-day stuff to recover at a rate of 1/minute. This means rapid fire combat still has attrition, but they can push themselves without worrying "Will I need my special teleport thing in the next fight? Guess I'm not doing any damage now".

It's simple and works with almost every variant of kineticist out there to just give them a stamina pool that refreshes slowly, and can still mean they exhaust themselves if they push too hard, making them vulnerable.

Actually Bloodline Arcana is a sorcerer class ability. It states this under the first line of sorcerer, where you gain the class abilities. You do not get the arcana because that isn't a bloodline power, it's a bloodline arcana.

I don't know how people can be confused by this unless they're munchkining.
>>
>>54288766
No, it really doesn't. Technologist is a required feat or you're considered untrained rolling perception to see if that giant six-legged non-cloaking tankbot with the plasma cannon and the two miniguns is sneaking up on you or not.
