How are muh Nurgle?
>>53652730
How would one go about weathering like this?
>>53652896
How the fuck do i weather black models?
>>53652931
You paint them dark gray instead of black, and then chip in a lighter color.
>>53652931
Get some of the shit they put on the inside of citadel boxes and dab it in leadbelcher. Get rid of almost all of the iron breaker and then lightly apply the sponge to the model.
Decided to refluff my Spirit Host (only basecoated) as an Ynnari force. Want to make my bases look like an "Eldar Graveyard" to match. Currently just a sand-like basing with scatteres ruins. How would you recommend painting it all up to achieve the desired spoopy effect?
Is it possible to do camo face paint (like pic) at 28mm without it looking stupid? Any examples?
Well since Vespids actually look half decent in 8th ed but the models look awful, I was thinking of making some costum made Vespids out of breachers + backpacks from puppetswar.
They're both roughly the same size and wear equivalent weapons and armor
Wat'cha think?
how do you best make use of an airbrush, I have one, but i;ve only ever used it for basing since i'm too timid to actually try anything more than broad swaths.
>>53653204
coold idea, it seems like a natural evolution i n tau jump infantry just one step below steath suit.
>>53647748
>>53649860
Sorry I went to bed after posting.
>What colors
IIRC I used Vallejo Model Color Burnt Umber and Game Color Bonewhite for the basecoat. then highlighted with VMC Ivory.
This is extra but before painting the armor I painted on VMC Chocolate Brown and stippled on Mahogany Brown. Then applied Chipping Medium.
Best way to seal figures after painting? I see some people use Testors Dull Coat, but Army Painter's sealent is also supposed to be good. Anyone have a good guide?
>>53652931

>>53652730
Looks pretty neat. Base rims need some neatening up
Does anyone have suggestions on how I should paint my Dark Eldar?
>>53653374
Not him but what kinda sponge do yall use. Does tamiya make a good paint sponge or st?
I swear, Cawl just never ends. It's like he's a fractal, there are always details I've missed.
>>53653394
I'm sorry Anon, I didn't quite get that... the massive faggot cock you've currently got in your mouth seems to be impeding your ability to post clearly somehow. Anyone else have any actual suggestions?
>>53652424
That's a big boy.
>>53653563
I know that feel anon.
I'll do moldlines and gaps after, but how is my sculpting? Making valhallan/cossack/winter rough riders

Does the helmet work or should I keep using bare heads and make funny hats.
>>53653670
They look okay but his right arm looks like a pipe.
>>53653446
Bright yellow with white trim and checkered patterns, since Dark Eldar love masochism. Have fun!
>>53654014
>>53653464
go to the dollar store and buy a sponge
>>53653699
The helmet might work if you put a point on it like one of those boyar helmets. Right now he looks like a generic chaos outrider.
Your sculpting is def wip but it's getting there. This guy's coif/collar and the first dude's right arm need particular attention.
>>53653575

>>53653464

>>53653575
To not paint Raptors.
Any anons have an idea what I could use to represent a Zvorda dwarf from Trudvang? They're essentially 8 foot tall dorfs. Reaper has some Giants, but they're all just a bit too big.
>>53654252
Thanks for that. What do you mean by needs particular attention? The right is too tubey like >>53653942 said so id need to shave it down, but what about the collar? too big?
How would I sculpt a spike of that size?
Thanks for the help.
>>53653204
I'd say maybe modify/find helmets and boots to fit the look while making them stand out as separate types of models from the normal kit in addition to the jump packs.
>>53654670
Found these troll minis, look fairly similar to what you're after outwith the 2-toed feet. All sold out though.

What do you guys think about my Salamanders? Would you recognise them even with the red bolters?
The next step would be adding some flames to the shoulder pads.
>>53654902
And the plasma coil isn't complete yet.
Got my Madrak3 all painted, this was a fun one to paint.
Could do without all the little details though...
>>53654996
>>53655016
>>53654728
The first dude's arm is also sticking out of the middle of his torso like a pipe fixture. As for the collar, if it's supposed to be a big fur collar you need to round out the top and separate it from the helmet. With the way it's shaped right now and how close it is to being flush with the helmet it looks like it's supposed to be a mail coif. You could make it a coif, and it would fit with the helmet, but the holes need to be way more numerous and uniform to look like mail.
To be honest I'm not really sure how you'd go about making the point. I'd try building up the helmet with putty until it looks like a top hat, letting it dry, then sanding it down till you get the shape you want.
>>53654290
Damn, wish I had any unopened ones on hand.
>>53654902
I like the red bolters lad
>>53655060
Got it, thanks.
Kinda want to do boyar guard know but he'll that'd be hard.
I found a spike from a maul and glued it on top and filed it down and it works out well.
>>53653446
How about crimson armor with lots of blue and purple hair?
>>53655320
Thx. I did it because I felt there is already enough black on the colour scheme. Might change it a little big for my Devastator Squad tho, since their weapons are much bigger.
>>53653603
For you.
Second ever Blood Bowl model and one of the first models I've painted to completion since high school (and when I painted then I only knew how to base coat).
>>53654814

>>53653446
i'd stick with edge highligting, with a good base black i'd reccommend any of the following
torquoise
sea green
dark purple
electric blue
orange
it's easier to start dark and have a second highlight colour, that is just what i do though
>>53652424
I'm contributing my Plague Hulk / Defiler standin. He's pretty much finished, although i still manage to find details that i've missed.
>>53652444
Clean, simple and efficient. I very much enjoy your subtle chipping effects.
>>53652730
>>53652747
Looks pretty nurglish to me. Good work there. If I had to point out any shortcomings, it would be, that the green looks a tad too flat for my taste – although that might just be the picture quality.
>>53652896
Sponging with any dark brown is the usual way to go.
>>53653670
>>53653699
These guys kick ass! I also enjoy the simple helmet, gives him a very worn, experienced feel.
Not much further now
Just gotta finish the cockpit and weapons, then decide what to do with the stuff sticking out from the wings and cleanup
>>53656240
I just don't understand the washing process.
it also doesn't help that I don't have any other glaze than Bloodletter, so I can't use Guilliman blue either.
I attempted it, and outright felt like I ruined a model.
>>53656333
how'd you paint those nice white armor-panels? all of it looks good, but that really sticks out to me.
>>53652424

>>53656505

>>53656505

Herald of slaanesh conversion. Love the old model but don't have the arms any more so I put Demonette seeker champion claws in their place. Pose isn't great but nothing you can do with a model this static and those claws.
>>53656601
This isn't a primer right, it's only a base coat?
So either way, I need to spray the stuff black or white first?
>>53657276
No, It's primer.
I have no idea how that rumor got started
>>53657317
It literally says on the website:
>Mephiston Red Spray is designed for basecoating all Citadel miniatures. When sprayed over an undercoat, it's a fast way to get a uniform base of colour onto your models.
>basecoating
>sprayed over an undercoat
And yet, in the Orruk painting guide it's says they have primers available in base coat colors for undercoating.
Did some minor touchups to my gregor clegane - I was hoping to show you a complete model but I had about 2 meters of primer on the smaller bits, so I've stripped them and am gonna re-do them.
Let me know how my plate mail and tunic look, it's my 2nd attempt at such a thing.
>>53656333
I find that genuinely disgusting
well done then I guess
>>53657388
>>53657344
So is it a primer or not?
>>53657439
It is. I've known people who use it and it is.
>>53657276
>>53657317
It's not a fucking primer, Games Workshop do not sell a primer except in a paint pot a primer is a specific type of paint, that's just regular paint it's not a fucking primer.
>>53657439
>>53657545
According to their Orruk painting book, it's both. It says it multiple times.
I'm looking for very small drone models that look like they're just large enough to mount a stormbolter on. (and similar specialist-size weapons)
Both crawling and hovering drones are acceptable.
Ideally, something like the jetpacks in >>53653204 and >>53655931, but smaller scaled.
I've only worked on the primary metals, the face, and the cloak. I'm thinking of doing a light galaxy pattern on the cloak and a dark green for the clothes. Opinions?
>>53657612
Can you try to take a better picture? The photo you posted isn't focused at all.
>>53657577
>>53657539
Okay good, I was worried because I used their retributor gold spray and it's been great so far
>>53657612
Galaxy pattern sounds cool and I've been thinking of doing a galaxy themed SM. Would appreciate how you hope to achieve the look.
>>53652444
Purple and blue would have been better to purge those mutants.
So which is it?
>>53657640
Here
>>53657688
Fling a few colors of paint (blue, green, red, white) in random specs, touch up and fill in those specs, and then expand the larger ones in to star shapes (Xs and crosses and the like).
>>53657788
primer =/= basecoat
They don't use the word primer, cos it ain't a fucking primer.
It serves the same purpose as a primer, which is an even flat coat of paint that the other paint will adhere to... but it's not primer.
But it's fine for its intended purpose regardless.
Finished up the salvaged land raider, thing was in horrible shape when I first bought it used
I hope I never have to work with one of these again, its a good looking model but man its a pain in the ass to assemble/paint
making a squad of power weapons and pistols.
How do I go about using Mark 3 armor kits and making them look Chaos-y enough to be considered chaos?
Looking for some advice on color scheme. I want to paint up some tanks in sort of a dull red for the main hull, with a paler white/tan/grey as an overlaying camo pattern on top of that. Sort of a red desert kind of look?
My only plan so far was to go for a Mephiston Red base, go for Wazdakka red on top of that, and then use Screaming skull as the main camo/detail color.
Would that work at all or am I way off base here?
I have spent years trying to strip these. I have tried concentrated floor cleaner pure mineral spirits scrubbing for hours on end and so forth, I even let them soak in Simple Green for several months and I could never get the paint off.
Finally I decided to try acetone concentrated comma I had no hopes because mineral spirits and paint thinner did nothing. It came off in less than 10 minutes. What the f***. How the f*** did GW paints or whatever survive mineral spirits for two days comma oven cleaner for weeks, Simple Green for months. I have no idea but finally it is done I can finally begin painting my sisters Army after putting it off for years.
>>53657788
It's clearly marketed as a basecoat a.k.a. a way to put down an even layer of a primary color you'd like to build up from.
It's not a primer, and thus will not provide added surface quality to reduce the amount of paint needed to affect a layered color change, nor provide a well-bonded surface on metal minis.
>>53658142
>>53657880
So does that mean I shouldn't spray it straight onto plastic?
The book sure seems to suggest that.
>>53658160
Sacrifice a mini to test. Hell, some bitz and sprue will give you a better idea than listening to autists argue back and for here.
>>53655547
the skin could use some more definition and make the eyes either white or red. Rest looks fine though.
>>53658193
Yeah, that's true. I'm mostly asking because it's hard to get aerosols here and my local GW was out of red.
I'll just have to suck it up and order it to try it.
>>53657668
It isn't proper primer, but realistically it doesn't matter on plastic models, so it will be fine.
>>53658122
Anon comma your post formatting really throws me off period
Acetone is the most effective solvent I know of for metals, Super Clean degreasing solution works almost as effectively to remove paint from plastic and resin.
Mineral spirits will loosen stuff but I don't think it works as well on thick layers, while Simple Green's effectiveness varies wildly depending on what the paint is made out of.
>>53656194
Does anyone have a screencap of those instructions?
>>53658160
If you're planning on doing high contrast blending or something with a lot of different colors, an actual primer will cut down on the amount of paint you have to physically slather onto the model to affect a visual change by providing better paint adhesion.
If you're looking to churn out 50 infantry dudes to a three-color standard with a wash, basing with spraypaint is fine for practicality's sake.

The grey exoskeleton could do with some highlighting + darken those recess lines. Claws could do with some more highlighting too. Tongue etc needs painting and those.. no idea what to call them, the opening with lines across, they could do with some colour to make them stand out and break the colour up a bit more.

>>53660787
Oh! And I should add, the WoW figures are really cool sculpts but they have shallow, the detail is kinda blobby, horrific mold lines, and are made from a plastic that's more rubbery than the stiff stuff for minis. I made the mistake of trying to skip the surface prep the first time I used one. Take the time to sand them down all the way or nothing will stick properly.

Khorne Red.
Looking to buy my first airbrush, any suggestion?
>>53661653
check amazon for airbrush starter bundles. If its your first airbrush you want something that's easily replaceable.
This kind of kit will get you through the basics just fine. Pic related is like $90 i think. Airbrush booths usually run about 80 on amazon too, so 170 for everything you need is a steal considering a decent Iwata brush is about that cost alone, and some decent compressors run close to 300.
Trust me, go with cheap to learn the basics and proper care before blowing a huge sum on some fancy gear to start
Last night in the last thread i was asking about clearcoating and mentioned a surprise well here it is what im really proud of
Anyone have any experience with iridescent effects? I'm gonna be painting a beetle and I'm unsure about how to proceed with the carapace.

i painted my first army this year with testors paint (army was ad mech) and i think the omnissiah would be quite dissapointed in me, but i bought some nice gw paints and i got to work on painting some ad mech heads that i will use instead of the base ones for the dark imperium starter set, holy shit does everything look nicer washes are litteraly liquid skill, too bad i can barely see the effects of the wash in the finished product because i use a bunch of nihilakh oxide because im planning a chapter filled with marines with rusty as shit bronze armor
>>53663218
Don't worry about disappointment.
It took me three or four different colors schemes, WITH stripping, to get anywhere near "that doesn't look awful' territory.
As long as you aren't 'Thin Your Paint's' tier, you're good.
But I agree with the wash being liquid skill, never used it before today and DEAR GOD does it improve everything.
Rusty bronze does sound pretty nice as a scheme though.
>>53663193
Yea its not anything fancy on mine yet either.
Just stuff i havent painted yet like the guns, accessories, eyes, metal bits etc..
Maybe if i do a good enough job it will distract away from the poor transitions and inconsistencies.Lucky im making night lords so the lightning will hide some shit too
>>53663177
Master of the Forge has a pretty good one, I used it and was happy with the results. the chosen on the start of the line is actually up on his toes in that pose making him pretty tall. the red chaos marine is a push fit one and the scheme tester on the end is a 3rd edition marine.
Found a bunch of ancient Necron models at my LGS yesterday, basecoated them in leadbelcher.
Here's hoping they come out decent when I'm finished

I think you need an intermediary layer between your black base and your yellow.
Or more thin layers.

>>53663675
I think you need to thin your paints and do several layers. Yellow can be hard to achieve so, try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_XqLR2orls

>>53663701
those are thinned and , several layers.

my paints was like water color dude
>>53663506
it was actually pretty easy, and as you can see I am not a very good sculptor at all.
Most of the work goes into fattening the chest and rounding the backs of the legs. as someone else pointed out I opted for the smaller arm option you can use termie arms and just adjust the weapons but that was a little bit more expensive than my jewish heart was willing to do. plus a lot of the places where it can go wrong can be covered up with pouches, capes and other gubbins.
>>53663806
Your results say that there's something wrong happening. I'd encourage you to try a few test models to get a solid colour. It can be quite hard to get thin solid colours. And yellow can be hard to do.
>>53663806
if you were doing it right they wouldn't look wrong.

Rather simple: Base layer with Vallejo's White Grey, a careful edge shade with Army Painters Strong Shade after that. Another broad layer with Vallejoy's Off White, carefullly preserving the effects of the first shade, followed by a thin wash with GW's Sepia Shade. That's it. Add some sponging for wear & tear, and you're good.
>>53660927
I already made it kind of thick as it is. This was my first time using clear coates on vehicles, so i kinda figure it was a learning experience.
So, here's the deal.
I hate the way my tactical marines turned out now. The coat's uneven, moldline show through, the motherfucking DA shoulders I bought from FW look like shit, and they're painted as DA and not Angels of Absolution.
How long should I soak them and what should I soak them in so that all the paint comes off no problem? Problem is, a lot of the torsos and heads are resin also. Should I say fuck it, ruin them, and pony up for new ones (they look hell of gangster) or should I try and preserve them as best I can?
Basically, what should I soak models in to strip them clean and break down the glue, and what should I do to strip resin parts as clean as possible?
I'm considering picking up some Daemonettes soon-ish, but I can't stand the lopsided mono-boob. I'll probably end up making several DFCs, but I'd like to at least keep the knocker on some of them. That leads me to my question
Does anyone have experience, tips or recommendations when it comes to sculpting breasts with greenstuff? Something better than "Make ball. make small bump, glue to chest" at least.
>>53664572
Breasts are generally teardrop-shaped.
Keep your sculpting tools damp so you can smooth the greenstuff easily.
You can also look into Wytch Elves/Sisters of Slaughter bits to mix things up.

Why the fuck is GW's Mephiston red so useless?
I swear to god it dries out within a week of opening it. None of my other paints do this yet Mephiston red has done it with two different pots. It's even closed the way, I checked to make sure it's not doing that stupid thing GW paints do where the lid never closes right.
Anyone know why? Is it because of the pigment or something?

Some do, yeah. Some people end up just paying people to paint for them and never improve because of it. Some of us paint like we've been doing it since our mother's painfully squeezed us out of their cunts.
Regardless of where you start, you'll -always- get better if you dump time into it. Skill is like 85% how much time you've wasted doing the thing.
>>53666344
No. Fuck that little spidery bullshit. Nonsense. Hard mode for beginners. Just slow everything down. Thin everything out a little. Remember that the first coat looks shit. So does the second. Slowly, they get better. Take your time and relax. Don't beat yourself up. Paint on.

Perhaps Herodotus explanation of a particular Schytian custom might give you some further inspiration:
>In what concerns war, their customs are the following. The Scythian soldier drinks the blood of the first man he overthrows in battle. Whatever number he slays, he cuts off all their heads, and carries them to the king; since he is thus entitled to a share of the booty, whereto he forfeits all claim if he does not produce a head. In order to strip the skull of its covering, he makes a cut round the head above the ears, and, laying hold of the scalp, shakes the skull out; then with the rib of an ox he scrapes the scalp clean of flesh, and softening it by rubbing between the hands, uses it thenceforth as a napkin. The Scyth is proud of these scalps, and hangs them from his bridle-rein; the greater the number of such napkins that a man can show, the more highly is he esteemed among them. Many make themselves cloaks, like the capotes of our peasants, by sewing a quantity of these scalps together. Others flay the right arms of their dead enemies, and make of the skin, which stripped off with the nails hanging to it, a covering for their quivers. Now the skin of a man is thick and glossy, and would in whiteness surpass almost all other hides. Some even flay the entire body of their enemy, and stretching it upon a frame carry it about with them wherever they ride. Such are the Scythian customs with respect to scalps and skins.

Re: Paint sticking to Bones figures ...
Do NOT use water to thin your paint ... Use a medium. I've been working on Bones lately and I'm using Vallejo airbrush flow improver as my mixing medium for my potted paint. Not a single problem and that's without even washing the mini.
Once a good base coat is down, do whatever you want ... but stop using water in your base coats/primer for Bones figures.

Just practice on platicard or sprues or whatever. You really won't have to do any special preparation, just make sure you thin your paints and have a nice sharp tip on your brush. A steady hand is really the only trick to doing freehand.

It's an airbrush, I based with vallejo grey blue, then did some general highlights with magic blue, then electric blue for the edges and finished with a careful pure white at the points.
The trick is to use a piece of soft plastic to contain the stream and prevent it from hitting the panel below the one you're highlighting. For the pure white, you almost entirely spray the soft plastic blocker and just let the very edge of the stream touch the actual model since you still want the electric blue to show through.
Really fun and fast way to do up eldar tanks.

>>53670260
Do you base first then glue the model to the sand, or glue to the base then sand after? I do the latter but can't get it half as neat as you. I worry about a weak bond the other way round
>>53672210
Get some throwaway metal models and just fuck about with it, play around with pressure and such. It's a skill like any other with painting, so you gotta build it up. Try easy stuff first like directional highlighting, osl and such.
>>53672322
osl?
>>53672321
I do the latter and also have issues, but I found a neat trick is that when you have the sand glued to the base, then get more glue, water it down like crazy, and then put it over the top of the sand so it ensures it won't break off when painting it
>>53672505
Object source lighting, basically simulating light streaming from a specific point of the model and bouncing off the rest, such as blue light from plasma coils reflecing off the chest of a space marine. So basically you just give it a thin coat with the airbrush that gets progressively lighter the further away from the source it is. It's a good practice drill for learning trigger control.
>>53672630
both of those aren't easy for me. any tutorials for them that you would recommend?
>>53665401
Isn't it a bit thick? I think I can see some thickness on the helmet snout, there's supposed to be little grills there aren't there? We can barely see them as it is.
Same with the shoulder pads, a bit thick.
I presume this is frm Tamyia Clear red right? You are thinning it with alcohol right?
>>53672630
and i'd love to do such lighting effects.
>>53672701
Not really sure, youtube probably has some stuff, check out Kris Belleau maybe. He's pretty good at explaining stuff.
But really I'd just jump into it and try some stuff out, if you use metal models it doesn't matter if you fuck up since you can easily just strip them. Pick a source of the light and get a feel for how much paint comes out depending on how far back you're pulling the trigger, and let the coat get thinner the further away from the object, this will help you get a general feel of how the airbrush handles.

What the other guy said.
Drill matching holes into the base and the soles of the model, glue small pins (made out of steel wire, paper clips, or something similar) into the feet, and then glue to the base.
A good way to get the holes to line up is to drill into the soles of the model, and drill one hole into the base.
Put the metal pins in and line it up with the hole in the base, then you can use the pin in the other foot to scratch a mark where the second hole should be.
As for what glue to use, no idea. Superglue or epoxy should work.
