They charge just like everything else in 8th edition : be within 12'', roll 2D6, eat overwatch, move how much you rolled foward, if you get within 1'' of an enemy model they are now in close combat with you.

Vehicles themselves won't do much, with anything not meant for CC only hitting on a 6 ... but there are benefits to it.

The thing about this that bothers me the most, is that these new models have been pretty well established as "Primaris Marines". So if they get rid of the old rules and models for space marines, it'll be that much harder to play battles set in the 10,000 years before the 40k setting transforms into a story.

Mine's great. The Chicagoland area is full of stores and GW stores that have really nice people. I came back to 40k about 6 months ago and pretty much everyone I've met has been amiable. I've heard stories of people to avoid, but never met any of them so far.

I feel I got lucky. I've seen a lot of people talk about how there's no one to play or no stores near by. That must be demoralizing.

Well, odds are you'll still have all the Horus Heresy stuff, and it'll be hard to justify scaling that up or discontinuing it.

In a way, that's kind of fitting, since even as things advance and Primaris marines become more common, the main marines holding out would be those who are so traditional that they go as far to use really old armor patterns.

Those are pretty sick. The idea of having the Khorne marines having sleeveless power armor is also an entertaining idea. I'm leaning towards it as well since it'll let me have the rest of my Chaos army stay at the old marine height, while having the separation between the normal and big marines clear.

So my psychotic tank shocking rampages just got better. Well better for me. Damn I hate Orks.

The recent developments in the lore of 40k are indicative of a huge tonal shift. The Imperium’s ignorant struggle has been the defining feature of the story since RT and while “advancing” the plot is probably something necessary to breathe new life into the game and community, I think we’re right to question the substance and implication of this new direction.
So far, things are what we might expect – the fluff is a little less internally consistent when told at this macro scale – and we are seeing things moving at the speed of “plot.” The biggest problem here in my opinion is the reintroduction of a bevy of characters that have had firsthand experience of the Imperium that was. It doesn’t help that it reinforces the self-inflicted meme of Spiritual Liege shit that has plagued us for a few editions now. Rouboute is back and he’s talking to the emperor. This itself doesn’t need to be frustrating.
The imperium is apparently more on the brink in this book than at any other point in the setting’s history. The Cicatrix Maledictum has apparently thrown a huge swathe of worlds into absolute turmoil and all-out war. There are gems of interesting content – the Blood Angels are suffering a similar fate to their Successors the Lamenters, their backs are truly against the wall. There is the potential of an Imperial Crusade into the Eye to reclaim the fragments of Cadian forces around the sector. But we also have the Super-Super Space Special Marines, who are beautiful models, yet clumsy and ham-fistedly shoved into the fluff with seemingly no deficit. It would be brave of GW to write these new soldiers in the shades of gray we’ve come to expect but I have my doubts that will be the case.
Ultimately I think we’re heading toward a noblebright future. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing – but it feels forced and that does feel bad.

All Imperial worlds are touched by war now, but on the other hand the Imperium is more strongly united than it's ever been in the post-Primarchs era, a legend has been brought back to life to lead the Imperium (and he even talked with papa emprah), the Imperium is on a general offensive for the first time since the Horus Heresy, Chads have emerged to replace obsolete manlets, there is an "uneasy" friendship with the Eldar, and papa Smurf's crusade is winning everything.
I don't know if it'll go noblebright, but it's not grim darkness by any stretch right now despite the B-B-B-BUT MUH RIP OF TERROR narrative.

It feels like the Imperium is winning because Rowbooty is back and Magnus didn't wipe out Fenris, but really it's not as peachy as that. In terms of territory gained and territory lost the Imperium is waaaay in the red after the gathering storm.

It only feels like the Imperium is winning because you're following Rowrow's story. He can maraud his crusade all around the galaxy, but he can't be everywhere at once, and the Imperium is seriously losing ground. I don't know what you call a story where the main characters win the battles but consistently lose the war, but that's what we're looking at.

It's grimdark for the imperium because the period has all worlds of the Imperium besieged and war torn. It will last for centuries of suffering and bloodshed.

It's only noblebright for the Tau who are in a Great Crusade mode launching Expansion Sphere after another. With the Imperium ravaged by the Great Rift and its countless enemies, the Tau surely will make massive gains in east and wherever the Fourth Sphere Fleet will materialise in. The Tau have nothing to look forward to but expansion and progress a brighter note than the downer note that was given to them by "Mont'ka" and the Firewall.

A shit ton of Chaos Marines and Renegade Guardsmen every single time they fight, in fact their forces get wiped out in almost every battle and only Daemons are really infinite. Chaos 'victories' tend to come from made up 'secret objectives' or sheer weight of numbers and superweapon shenanigans like in Fall of Cadia.

Just getting into 40k and am in the process of slowly stripping/repairing a heavily abused Blood Angel army a friend gave me like 10 years ago. Going to go ahead and dump some questions here.

I have been reading up on units and am trying to confirm some of the shit I have here.

I am assuming the 2 guys on the left are Death Company Chaplains. I know one of the Dreadnaughts is furioso but is the one with the Assault Cannon just a normal Dreadnought?

Is the tank an old model of Baal Predator and would the turret be that far upfront in the area missing paint?

Hard to tell because of shit picture but the two Death Company dudes in the middle are dual wielding chain swords and bolt pistols. Is that valid or just my friend being a dumb ass when he was 12? I have several other Death Company equipped like that....

They hinted pretty heavily that Blood Tithe was being ported to the main Chaos book but that's not really a new rule. Chaos Daemons got new rules for each god though, which is cool but not much more than a a flat stat boost and nothing cool like the Tau jetpacks or DEldar being able to deny fallbacks. I could be wrong but I dont think there was a model for a Baal pred until the current version. That looks like a 2nd ed predator to me (round turret) which is converted to be a baal pred. I would recomend the getting started BA box set (unless you already have a bunch more models). It comes with the new pretty Baal Pred, a squad of BA marines (which you can use bits to convert your new Primaris marines to be more BA friendly... if you get any) and a captain.

I dont remember off the top of my head if dual pistols is a thing for Death Company, but everything is about to be invalidated/updated within 6 weeks, so you might as well wait to finalize the weapons. About the Predator and I guess conversions in general.. do people really care much about a base model? Like if a unit is converted into a different one is that generally going to be a problem outside of a tournament or something?

Conversions in general are no big deal, as long as done decently. You can even proxy stuff that is close enough, such as substitute a marine with x special weapon for a marine with y special weapon, in most games (another example, your dread with an assault cannon can easily stand in for a furioso as long as you make it very clear to your opponent). That may not fly in tournaments though.

I kinda see them rigorously hazing primaris but embracing the ones that meet their vikingfrat standards. Then if Dean Showboat Gorillaman decides he has a problem with the way they're handling the primaris and their chapter structure, I can see both the wolves and their new pack members flipping him the wolf-finger and going off to play beer pong.

Even if they're hesitant to take in primaris, the chapter's survival almost demands it. Chapter numbers have got to be seriously impacted by the WRATH OF MAGNUS, as well as the inability to recruit from much of the fenris system due to extreme corruption of the native populations.

Thats because they updated the lore surrounding Cadia. There were only 2 GC involved on Cadia the others either didnt make it or bailed to somewhere as yet unexplained.

As for the SW they fine. Magnus did work Fenris over pretty hard however its doubtful GW will ever bring that up again as with most unresolved plot points.

So Grimnar and the other lords are around somewhere just under strength and I expect it'll be that way till they next get around to updating the wolves.
