It really depends on the weapon. I assume a T1 or T2 weapon has a 360 rotating base, while something as huge as a Anti-Matter Cannon can't rotate so it functions as a real 'Spinal Weapon' in that it takes half your ship's back to hold it. Lower-tier spinal weapons presumably don't take so much space so they are able to rotate.

Not him, but stop pretending. You want to make waifu shit, make waifu shit. Don't include some other half-assed options and settings you barely spellchecked when what it's really about are the waifus and the detailed lists of their fetishes.
>>
>>52636551
I'm not either. I just thought you made a mistake so I fixed it !
>>
>>52636433
Any premise can be slice of life as long as you ignore any overarching conflict.
A heroes journey can be SoL if the focus lies on the misadventures in-between Major events.
A post-apocalyptic setting can be SoL, as long as the focus isn't on them trying to solve anything (they can still be solving or encountering stuff in the background)
An extra-dimensional super prison can be SoL.
A shrunken city on the back of a dust mite can be SoL.
A group of gangsters can be SoL. A group of vampires can be SoL. A group of vampire gangsters can be SoL.
Superheroes can be SoL. Supervillains can be SoL. The ancient evil coming to destroy the world can be SoL.
All that matters is the kind of stories you tell.

I'm always down for a slice of life monstergirl cyoa. Moving into a neighborhood is a good idea.

Participate in city events, vote for laws about the neighborhood watch

choose your neighbors and shit sounds comfy and hot
>>
>>52636433
>>52636552
You could have a section for "what's peculiar about this neighborhood".

For example, Yakuza/Mafia/other organized group that no longer does any crimes (but still look intimidating enough that some people wouldn't believe it). Instead, they do stuff like volunteer work (keeping places clean, fixing broken stuff, etc.), and if someone starts making trouble in the neighborhood, they're taken aside and given a good talking-to (to the point of working out why they're acting like they are, and offering ways to apply themselves in a more constructive manner)?
>>
>>52636725
I was thinking something like
>Pick which street/part of town you live in
Monstergirls could split into different areas, like the "spooky" part was ghost-girls and vampires and shit, the "park" area has alraunes, cat-girls and such.
>Pick a roommate
Each roommate has some job that helps explain how the city works.
>Pick a job
Not sure about this one. Obviously you have to help out the city that only seems fair but it doesn't have to be menial labor. Something like playing with the kids in the park or visiting the more eccentric monstergirls counts too.

City events and voting on laws is an excellent idea! Thank you!

Fights like an assassin unless in territory, upon which she becomes a nightmare to fight against. Can cast true magic only when not in combat, so it's mostly to irresistably alter the battlefield to her advantage. She also wipes all residue of her presence and acts alone, making her a great wildcard.

>>
>>52636988
Seems interesting. Could you clarify how the Noble Phantasms function?
>>
>>52636988
>>52636736
The slash stats are for switching out the clothing. I'm assuming you can't stack clothing together because no one would ever pick modern clothes. As for the noble phantasms:

>Shapeless Divinity: Founder of All Faiths
Rank: A
Form: Concept
Type: Anti-Unit
Grants the ability to make sacred vows, so long as the target has faith in Caster's Divinity and deliberately agrees to it. When honoring a vow and opposed by an enemy unit who obstructs the vow, Caster is enveloped by the vow, raising Luck to the enemy's Luck (minimum Caster's Luck) against the enemy. Completing a vow grants extra Divinity ranks, which diminish over time.

>Shapeless Divinity, Unwritten Scripture: Founder of All Faiths
Rank: A++
Form: Concept/Location
Type: Anti-Army
As above, but only in Ceremonial. Condition: If the enemy uses a Noble Phantasm that is based in or significant to religious faith, the vow manifests as a reality marble, fully encompassing Caster, the enemy, and all allies involved in the fight. The marble is treated as territory granted by Territory Creation. Divinity is increased to EX while inside.

>No Death Without Burial
Rank: EX-
Form: Ability
Type: Anti-Self
Divinity cannot go below rank E. Renders one's death null so long as Divinity is rank E or higher, respawning instantly at the territory core. Condition: Cannot null a death sourced from a higher Divinity rank.

>Lion's Claw: Stone Ritual Knife
Rank: C
Form: Weapon
Type: Anti-Unit
A knife that appears before those who are within the territory and wish to end their own life. It whispers sweet words of sacrifice and value to the wielder. Intentional, self-inflicted wounds are always lethal, which transfers lifeforce mana to the owner. The knife can be destroyed but reappears whenever conditions are met.

>Divinity Sight
Rank: E
Form: Ability
Type: Anti-Unit
Can passively see if someone has higher Divinity ranks. Line of sight.

>Not retarded
Sorry Anon but you are now retarded by association.
>>
>>52637055
I liked that one!

I feel that the edgy sacrifice Noble Phantasm was made a bit less generic by the fact you put it on an assassin IMO, since you don't have the durability for it to be likely that you survive your rage.

The super Gae-Bolg was a bit iffy, but it's not strictly speaking an insta-kill like Gae Bolg is even if it bypasses armor and stuff, so I don't think it's that unfair.

>>52637037

That's an interesting network of abilities. I feel that your biggest weakness by far is Anti-World and Anti-Fortress attacks that could level your domain and thus bypass your No Death Without Burial, but except for that it's a solid set of abilities. I especially like Lion's Claw, for creativity. You did sort of cheese the Noble Phantasms-it feels like the two Shapeless Divinities shouldn't count for the same thing in terms of points, but I definitely don't think your Servant is stronger than some of the monsters from the other thread so I can't complain too much.

I'm tempted to try going through all the Servants posted so far and try to give them a tier list.

The knife is based off of the Aurignacian lion man statue, which is the world's first known anthropomorphic statue. My Saber is based on the first priestess to ever exist, hence why she's insufferable and the supposed founder of all faiths. She honors the prayers of the faithful and in return she gets power. It was also almost certain that faith was founded as a need for some ritual during burials, hence the deep connection to death.

Divinity Sight is just something nice to have yet super limited in scope.

I can't help but think that your Assassin would be similar to poor old Diarmuid in Fate/Zero. One of the most sympathetic Servants, but ends up dying tragically with a Master undeserving of them.

In all honesty I think if not for all the overlapping classes, we'd have quite an interesting Grail War lining up now from all the posts this thread at last. Not sure who would win though, looking at them all.

I'm glad to be compared to him. And yeah I agree, I would probably get wrecked. Picked Assassin mostly because I like that whole "being able to protect my Master at all times" thing they have going. I'll be destroyed by people who can actually take hits and deal out damage.

Is "dumb" also counting "foolish," or just "unintelligent?" Because if you're selecting against low INT and not low WIS, you haven't actually fixed anything.

Some of the absolute worst disasters in history have been caused by people with incredibly high INT but abysmal WIS. Spent so much time on whether or not they /could/ that they didn't bother thinking of whether or not they /should/.

Something like Excalibur would easily level the physical domain. However, that power is granted by divinity, so it would be feasible to create a reality marble to absorb the attack. That would be extremely limited due to the insane amounts of mana required. And as mentioned before, Divinity doesn't actually do anything unless otherwise specified, so really all the ++ gets is a conditional territory creation. The A-rank I thought was alright because all it does is up to the enemy's LCK, which could very well be just a slight bump in stats. Is there anything about Divinity that I'm missing?

>>52637426
I really liked that build as well. I'm pretty sure that you're built to fuck me up, but that shouldn't be surprising given our classes. That Laevateinn would compete with an EX-level ability, which is the level of my respawn ability. Given the readings, it should disable the respawn ability, so it really depends on who finds out about the other's noble phantasm first.

Yeah, this is a really interesting Grail War.

Maybe it's because you just share different interests with the people here, I don't know. But blame these threads all you want, something abot your delivery isn't working and you need to address that if you want positive feedback.

This is different from knowing whether or not to listen to other's opinions and doing things properly. Either way, if you're bitching like this, then you should probably either take a break or just leave.

Yeah, that ability is very good. In terms of a fight, I'd go berserk and wouldn't stop fighting, so this basically turns everything into a standstill, unless if my higher STR stat can overwhelm your higher AGI stat. Probably would resolve as really straightforward fights do. The best part is that we'd both erase the fight, so we'd keep wailing on each other and not know where our wounds are coming from.

Ultimately I think it boils down to you overpowering me by taking advantage of the fact that I can't ignore pain from my wounds, while I would try to find a way to use magic against you out of battle. Your EX Luck would foil a lot of my attempts while my D Luck would let you shit on me unless if I entered a vow to take you down.

What kind of heroic figure were you basing your Saber off of?
>>
>>52637900
You trying to ERP? Bad anon. That's improper lewd behaviour.

To answer your question, either a pack of misfits (a pack full of outcasts under my protection I could power of plot to greatness in an urban fantasy setting), a classic pack where every person has a clear role (in a high fantasy jungle tribal setting), or a pack that doubles as a crime syndicate (maffia werewolves in the criminal underbelly of a major city- omega prostitutes, beta is my second-in-command, etc.).
>>
>>52638001
>this basically turns everything into a standstill, unless if my higher STR stat can overwhelm your higher AGI stat
Well I don't know how long you can keep up an EX rank Noble Phantasm. My +2 modification won't trigger unless you target my Master.
I will lose to a Berserker, IF I try to fight like someone who isn't an Assassin.

>What kind of heroic figure were you basing your Saber off of?

Yeah, but I'm not a Berserker, I'm a Caster whose sanity goes out the window in a fight. The stat boost comes from my Mad Enhancement. Things get sillier if I'm in my territory of course, but I can't generate a territory to fight against you because nothing you have relates to the divine whatsoever. I don't get my A/A++ NP against you, except for vows.

Just finished going through all the Servant builds so far to see how I think they'd do in a Grail War. First, I'll recap all of them.

1: Lancer, an obscenely strong male true neutral Servant who's immune to anything A Rank or higher, has high Magic resistance, an EX+ Anti-World nuke and a few more tricks besides. Can't really do anything at all other than fight, and his Luck is atrocious. Winner of the 'My dude could totally beat Gilgamesh' award.

2: Assassin Waifu, skilled with stealth and has surprisingly good direct combat skills for an Assassin. Both Phantasms are powerful and well suited for a Grail War. Her master is a lucky guy. Winner of the 'best waifu' award.

3: Caster Heroine, a manifestation of Angra Mainyu's counterpart. Physically very weak, but she has some really impressive tricks that let her protect her Master in interesting ways. Personally my favourite one because it seemed like a lot of thought went into her narrative role as well as her character (although I liked all of them). Winner of the 'Nasu, is that you?' award.

4: Caster Gambler, a full-on reality warper who depends on the most bullshit singular Noble Phantasm imaginable but is otherwise very easy to kill. Winner of the 'working out how to kill this guy is going to hurt' award.

5: The Berserker who acts like a Caster. Not very fleshed out, unfortunately. Winner of the 'wait, an EX +4 Noble Phantasm!?' award.

6: The Spiteful Assassin. Full disclosure, I wrote Loki. An extremely versatile Servant who lacks the ability to really go toe-to-toe with most of the others in a fair fight, but he's insanely hard to put down and remains a huge threat even after dying. Winner of the 'I'm not giving my own creation an' Award.

7: The Ur-Priestess Caster. Not the most immediately intimidating Servant, but her complicated network of synergistic abilities and flexibility make her a force to be reckoned with. Winner of the 'fuck, nearly none of us have Divinity' Award.

I won't pretend that it wasn't tongue-in-cheek, but it wasn't intended to be a full on insult. The war would be boring if it was all super tactical masterminds spying on each other for a long time, and your Lancer introduces an element of chaos to things.
>>
>>52638249
>spoiler
Huh? What? No?
The first trigger is saying you will, or me otherwise feeling like, you're threatening my Master.
The +2 modifiers trigger is attempting to harm my Master.

I'm not really into threesomes. Makes me think that I'm not good enough to satisfy them. I would honestly probably just put myself into the perma-friendzone if it was clear my Master preferred you. And then be sad but keep protecting my Master.

One thing that bothers me about this CYOA whenever I see it is its description of the luck state. It isn't a measurement of how likely things are to go in your favor, it measures your ability to defy fate.

It's how Saber avoids being insta-gibbed by Gae Bolg, it let's you force your way past absolutes. An EX luck state might get around>>52637037 No death without burial, for example.
>>
>>52638519
I personally like a mix. All masterminds makes things boring, all heavy hitters means that it's just the least creative 'my dude is immune to everything and hits super hard' guy who wins. A good mix of masterminds, fighters and wild cards is what makes an exciting war imo.

Class: Rider
Gender: Female
Impression: Normal
Physical Appearance: Adult Saber
Ahodge: Lone, Short
Clothing: Formal Gown, Scantily Clad, Heavy Armour

Parameters:
STR: C
END: C/EX
AGI: EX/C
MAG: E
LCK: B
NP: EX

Class Skills:
Riding: B
Independent Action: EX
Presence Concealment: D

Personal Skills:
Battle Continuation: EX
Instinct: B
Eye of the Mind (True): A

Noble Phantasm(s):

First Horse, Leveller of the Steppe (EX+++, Anti-Fortress, 'Equipment'): Rider's mount, the first horse ever to be domesticated. It's charge is powerful enough to flatten the largest of mountains or structures, and it leaves behind nearly perfectly flat featureless steppe in the wake of its charge. The +++ modifier is activated when Rider's mount encounters something that would prevent it from turning the path of its charge into steppe, and amplifies its power so that it may do so.

Hands of the Tamer (A, Anti-Self, Ability): Allows Rider to control and summon the First Horse, as her Riding Skill isn't high enough to allow her to do so by herself. Also allows her to instantly tame any wild animal currently domesticated by humans.

Trails (A, Anti-World, Ability): Rider knows the location of any magical being that steps onto or over the path of flat ground left behind by the charge of the First Horse.

Everyone should be able to kick Gil's ass. He's a fucking Gary Stu and I hate him

Arcueid and prime Zelretch would definitely kick his teeth in.
>>
>>52638826
Nah, you can hire Pilots, so nothing says you have to be one if you don't mind spending.
>>
>>52638377

Before I begin, I'll say that I've made some adjustments so that everyone is technically under a different class, just so they can be distinguished more easily. I'll also give everyone a Wish here-sorry if anyone dislikes what I've allocated to their Servant, if you say and it's not too late for me to change, I will do so.

1: Lancer: An Artificial Heroic Spirit created by the Einzberns as a representation of humanity's potential to surpass the Age of Gods. Requires insane mana to sustain him, so he's bound to a Homunculus. Goddamnit, Einzberns. Wishes to join the Throne of Heroes, so that he can prove himself the equal of the 'natural Heroes', if not the superior.

2: Assassin: A nameless member of the Hassan-i-Sabbah who had a habit of getting too emotionally attached to her handlers and marks despite her immense skill. Bound to a young rogue member of the same assassin cult who trained Kuzuki. She hasn't fully come to grips with her wish, but it's to live a proper life with someone she can love (spoilers: Her Master.)

3: Saver, a failed attempt to create a Ruler who could oversee the Grail war. Bound to the young son of this War's deceased Supervisor. As Ahura, her only wish is to ensure that the Grail isn't polluted. If her human aspect has a separate wish, she isn't aware of it yet.

4: Archer, the Heroic Spirit of a forgotten fortune deity from ancient times. As always with Archers, doesn't know what a bow is. Instead fights more like a stunningly lucky Caster, firing enchanted Tarot Cards that can create a number of incredibly powerful effects. Was summoned accidentally by a weak orphaned Magus girl, and in a fit of drunken generosity promised to win her the war. He trusts in fortune to provide all he desires, and thus wishes only that the girl gets a happy ending.
>>
>>52638839
Iirc, word of god is that Arcueid would lose, not because he's less powerful but because his GoB is a hard counter to her own abilities.
I doubt Zelretch would need to be in his prime though, especially considering what a dumbass Gil is.

Wish? Well, I'd wish for martyrdom to not be a thing. Headcanon - after the first priestess' death, people deemed her a martyr and thus religious extremism was born.

280 remaining. No idea what the fuck to spend it on. I could buy another ship, but it just doesn't fit my build, not thematically. I don't have any need for more crew members, nor do I really want them. The whole idea is "tight-knit crew on wacky space adventures." Hailey is deadly as fuck in the fighter docked where we found her (and holy fuck is that thing incredible, can outfly nearly anything and shoot the hell out of it too), Trish and I grew up together on the same junkyard planet until we could get the Rustbucket (the Venture) flying right, Owen and Sasha we picked up looking for work when we were looking for crew, and we hired on Faith the first time Owen got into a bar fight and we needed someone to set his arm.

5: Berserker, a corrupted rendition of the witch Circe. Possesses a unique Mad Enhancement that channels her madness into insane irrationality and fits of paranoia rather than inability to think, thus she remains capable of spellcasting. Her master is a member of a Matou branch family who is far far away from the sight of the war, planning to let his Servant destroy everything and then swoop in to collect the Grail. Her wish changes with every passing second due to her insanity having corroded even her base nature-it is extremely likely that a victory for Berserker would bring ruin to the world.

6: 'Rider': A mysterious observer who seems to regard the entire war with a detached air. Not as edgy as one would expect-in fact, he's extremely friendly and very charismatic. Not at all forthcoming with information about himself and skilled at redirecting the conversation. Approached each of the Masters before the War truly began and had a conversation with them about their lives. Claims that his wish is being fulfilled by the war itself.

7: Caster: Ancient even by the standards of Heroic Spirits, the Ur-Priestess hails from the earliest stages of the Age of Gods. Her master is a middle-eastern mercenary magus who once worked with a rather contentious group for ideological reasons before fleeing that life, hired by the Tohsakas to destroy the Grail. He and his Servant have little intention of that. Her wish is to erase the concept of martyrdom, whilst his own is to reach the Root to address his own ideological crisis of faith.

Now the scene is set, I can begin.

Well I've been working on organizing my Sisters of Battle army. Still not 100% sure about which order. I got one vote for Martyred Lady cuz of nice colour scheme.

I think you are better off with the old loadout. Flaks are most optimal for point-defense mounts, and I didn't notice that you had those on your spinal mounts previously. You want your hardest hitting weapons on the spinal mounts.

I really think that just going with the Triglav or Herald command mods was good enough to address your previous issues.

>>52638930
I really like this build if you're going in that direction.

Also, nobody ever says you have to spend 100% of your budget. Money is money, so what's the harm in having deeper pockets to begin with?

That said, maybe you could have a backup ship or a mule ship with a skeleton crew to haul all your loot back to your hangar.

>>52639049
As a destroyer, it sounds pretty solid. Those broadsides and spinals are something I'd load and point defense is adequately layered.

Any reason why you're going with the Beatrice command mod? Your build looks like it's more combat-centric and I'd imagine a more combat-centric mod would be more suitable. Not to say that the Beatrice mod isn't good, but it's more suited for those who want to avoid combat to begin with.

Beginnings

Our Sixth Grail War begins with only the best of intentions, as much as any battle to the death can. The old Magus families have continued their pursuit of their dream, recreating the Grail whilst attempting to patch out the traditional issues with the system by incarnating Angra Mainyu's counterpart into the new Grail directly.

Things begin to deteriorate almost immediately, as the Grail is invoked. The invocation coincides with a huge explosion that rocks the church, and once the smoke clears everything has changed. The Divine Spirit Ahura wasn't summoned as an overseer of the Grail but instead as a Servant under the Saver class. The Church's supervisor was slain in the explosion. The Supervisor's son, a teenage Executor-in-training, finds Saver's Command Seals etched on the back of his hand. At a loss following the death of his emotionally distant father, he takes up the mantle of Church Supervisor unofficially and agrees to oversee the Grail War alongside Saver for the protection of all, maintaining neutrality except in the event of world-threatening dangers.

Assassin and Archer, along with their masters, are the only Masters to visit the Church following these events. The others are all well aware of how the Grail War functions and have no desire to make their identities clear to anyone spying on the Church. Assassin has her master wear a disguise for his own safety in an adorable bit of slice-of-life. Archer just strides confidently in besides his Master, and it just so happens that the sun is shining brightly enough to conveniently blind any spying apparatuses set up around the Church.

The two Masters are both socially awkward and young, a recipe for getting along. Archer and Assassin get jealous. The Supervisor introduces them to the basic tenets of the War and offers them sanctuary if they surrender. Both refuse.

Something that might be nice (if you ever do a version 3 update) is upgrades you can buy that allow your AI to do more, like giving it firmware upgrades with profiles that have skill ratings at various jobs, so your "skeleton crew" mule ship wouldn't need a mule at all; your AI would just remotely pilot it.

Oh. You and I have an unfortunate conflict of interest, then. Still, I'm pretty sure you're not Satan.

>>52636223
Honestly, though, my safest bet here is getting rid of Evil and Greedy. If I hit "fat" who knows how many would-be Santas I'm killing off. If I hit "dumb," far too many well-meaning dopes perish. And I'd rather not find out how many of my friends browse /b/ without my knowledge by finding out they died.

Evil takes care of the problems with most ideologies, anyway, and Greedy should delete the rest.

Whilst the most inexperienced members of the War were meeting at the Church ruins, our more savvy Masters were busy running their own individual adventures.

Lancer and his Master immediately hit it off very well-both are artificial existences designed solely for the purpose of winning this war for the Einzberns, although their feelings concerning this fate differ. Lancer is more stoic about it, accepting it as his duty and deciding that if he has to fight, he's going to damn well win. His Master, a homunculus with full autonomy like Ilya, is much more uncertain about whether what they're doing is right. Whilst they get on well, Lancer is a difficult Servant for his Master to control and counsels far more brash and direct measures than she's comfortable with.

Caster and her own Master are really, really not getting along due to the Master's past being representative of everything that Caster hates. Even so, they're able to put their differences somewhat aside without wasting any Command Seals-whilst Caster remains deeply disapproving of the mercenary's past, she at least acknowledges how torn he is now and doesn't consider their wishes incompatible.

Unfortunately, it quickly becomes clear that further opportunities to bond won't happen immediately. Earthquakes begin to shake the city as the Matou Master loses control of Berserker and she, predictably, begins to wreak unholy havoc on the city, calling down destruction of unholy proportions seeming indiscriminately. The Sixth Grail War has well and truly begun.

>if you ever do a version 3 update
Hah. I'll get to it if these threads get 5% less autistic by mid-2018.

On a serious note, if I were to ever do a version 3, I'd go all out and make it a standalone, exclusively fleet-based thing where you're given a much larger budget to make an armada. I would follow through with my original plan to have an entire page dedicated to ship weaponry and whatnot and make the entire CYOA pretty much focus entirely on ship building.

Essentially, it'd be more of an "extension" or continuation of the original CYOA, like a DLC. A real shit-hits-the-fan type of thing.

>>52639642
I would still say that the module really only effects the beginning of a fight, so it'd be better for small engagements than the combat-centric mods. Warping in and blowing up your enemy before they can do anything to you, for example.

As for prolonged, chaotic fights, it'd be much safer to have the Fed mod for damage mitigation or the Red Dagger or Herald mod for positioning advantage, for example.

Any action performed within the world will be nudged ever so slightly to benefit him.

I'm not too sure how to go about this, balance wise. I want EX class luck, but luck itself is ridiculously broken. >Any reason why you're going with the Beatrice command mod? Your build looks like it's more combat-centric and I'd imagine a more combat-centric mod would be more suitable. Not to say that the Beatrice mod isn't good, but it's more suited for those who want to avoid combat to begin with.

Well my build is based around searching for Herald artifacts so I thought that model would be good for any voyages to uncharted space plus it would allow me to more easily cut and run if things get too dicey with other artifact hunters. But I had thought about taking the syndicate mod instead.

By the way I forgot to mention but I'm taking the Beserker title as well.

Reactions to this are pretty split. A rift between our cute teenage couple immediately forms as Archer's orphan Master makes it clear that she wants to stop whatever's terrorising the city. Archer, entirely convinced of his own infinite luck, is cool with this. Assassin and her Master are much more wary, as their assassin outlooks are not at all comfortable with the prospect of standing against an unknown threat. As a result, the two Master-Servant pairs split temporarily, although both make it clear that they want to stay allies. Assassin's group goes to lie low whilst Archer finds a safe spot for his Master and strolls into the battlefield.

Caster's group has no interest at all in showing their hand so early, and continue setting up Caster's territory. Lancer ignores the pleas of his Master and heads off to take a look at this bold Servant who's making a play so early in the game.

Archer arrives on the scene first and immediately engages with Berserker. The raging Circe proves to be an absolute nightmare to fight, her EX-Rank magic and EX High-Speed Casting making her practically impossible to tag whilst her absolute immunity to Magecraft means that Archer is forced relatively quickly into a defensive stance. Even so, whilst Berserker is dominating the battle, Archer's godly luck means that she can't land a genuine hit so far. It would be a stalemate, if not for the immense loss of civilian life caused by the general mayhem Caster is unleashing.

This unpleasant deadlock is broken by the arrival of Lancer and an armored figure of indeterminate identity wielding a holy blade-unbeknownst to the others, this is the Grail War Supervisor wielding Verethragna to pose as a Saber belonging to an unknown Master. 'Saber' joins Archer in his battle against Berserker. Lancer hangs back at first-not to be tactical, but because he wants to see what the best fight he can get out of this is and so he's considering joining Berserker to even the odds.

Lancer quickly changes his mind about this when he realises that 'Saber' doesn't stand a chance against Berserker and that Archer is deadlocked. He jumps into the battle quickly after a brief monologue introducing himself to the 'True Servants' and challenging them to prove that their origins make them any more significant than he is. This speech is admittedly a bit misplaced, since only Circe is really well known and 'Saber' isn't even a real Heroic Spirit, but it still leaves an impression.

Lancer quickly proves that he lives up to his boasts, going on an brutal offensive. He doesn't use any Noble Phantasms, but except for that he shows off every trick in his limited repertoire. Archer is impressed but not really moved in any way, but 'Saber' as a mere human is reminded of the gap between himself and a genuine Heroic Spirit in skill, even if he technically has been bestowed with the pure power of a Spirit.

Lancer has Berserker on the ropes pretty quick, even severing one of her arms, but is taken by surprise by one of her sudden mood swings from rage to cowardice, getting caught in an explosion as she flees. The carnage actually causes him to lose a life, but nobody notices. Archer slips away in the chaos, but 'Saber' isn't so lucky. Lancer, barely injured by the battle, confronts him and chastises him for getting manhandled by Berserker despite being a Class said to have high success rates in the war and good magic resistance. Lancer almost kills him there and then, but decides that he wants to see how powerful Saber's Noble Phantasm is and settles for just knocking him around a bit more, then leaving. The first skirmish of the war is over. Berserker has established herself as a monster with no regard for the life of civilians, Lancer has proven his power to the other Masters and everyone has dismissed 'Saber' as a large-scale threat for now. Nobody is quite sure where to place Archer, who achieved little but simultaneously left totally unscathed.

It's probably rude of me to try to decide your story but I would really like a little blurb saying something like Assassin likes to not use Presence Concealment because it makes her feel like a normal person

My brain is busy imagining some slice of life events where we go to school (under the guise that if I don't use Presence Concealment as an Assassin everyone will assume I have an amazing ace up my sleeve - but really I just want to pretend to forget this is a game of life and death and I'm literally a tool to be used to win), and I stick close to my Master to be able to protect them at a moments notice.

A few days pass after that without any obvious pieces of drama. 'Rider' shows up a few times to converse with the Servants this time. Lancer doesn't trust him at all and tries to start a fight, but Rider disengages almost immediately and disappears magically.

Archer doesn't trust him at all but is willing to be friendly, so they have a surprisingly enjoyable night out combined with a hidden game of wits as both try to get information out of the other. Neither gets anything of value, so the night is a leisurely waste.

He initially manages to slip past Caster's radar by pretending to be a civilian, but as her territory develops she becomes aware of him and chases him out. Assassin is fiercely protective of her Master but also unsure if she wants to force the issue and start a fight, so their interaction is pretty amusing, with Rider trying to be affable and Assassin getting a headache trying to decode his every sentence looking for hidden manipulations.

The Church Supervisor's interaction is by far the most daunting, as Rider establishes pretty quickly that he's aware of 'Saber's identity. As the technically impartial Church representative, Saver and her Master reluctantly entertain Rider. This starts off similarly to the other interactions where Rider isn't turned away, with Rider proving surprisingly easy to get along with, but for some reason Saver seems to be rubbed up the wrong way by him and eventually asks him to leave, which he happily acquiesces to.

Do the discounts mean overall, or just in terms of hulls? Like, if I have the 50% discount on a Wasp, which brings it down to 6 mil. Add in the Fed discount and it's 0mil, though I assume it goes to a minimum of 1mil. If I add on solar panels, would it be 3mil or would the remaining 1mil from my discount count towards the solar panels, making it 2mil total?

Aside from the continued enigma that Rider poses, the whole week following Berserker's attack is very relaxed. Caster occasionally sets up powerful magical trials to draw out and test the other Servants, but they all pass them with flying colours and Caster does try to keep loss of life to a minimum for now.

The alliance between Team Assassin and Team Archer is cemented despite some initial awkwardness concerning their different responses to the Berserker crisis. Both pairs are working happily together and forming a cute little family unit with Archer taking on a kind of cool uncle role, the two Masters more of a best-friend thing and the obligatory burgeoning romance between Assassin and her Master.

Lancer spends the first few days pretty annoyed, since he has no interest in dealing with Caster's magical anomalies and the other Servants are avoiding him instead of getting involved in fights. There's also tension between him and his Master due to his disobedience. Fortunately, this sad state of affairs is eventually rectified by the two taking the opportunity to make amends by seeing the sights of the city together, enjoying fine meals, exploring and generally being human without the oversight of the Einzberns. There's still some awkwardness there, but by the end of the week they're a much more effective duo.

Caster and her own Master are developing their own weird little rapport. They disagree on a lot of things and neither is really sure that they like or even respect the other, but at the same time they're actually very good at co-ordinating as a pair and they have a lot of very long, very detailed debates ranging from the theological to the practical that can stretch through the night and into the early morning. Caster can shed a lot of light about the Age of Gods, whilst the mercenary brings her up to speed on the nuance and complexities of modern concepts of martyrdom and the landscape that breeds those concepts.

>Noble Phantasm EX (I think this is some kind of Limit Break?)

Class Skills
>Item Construction EX (16 points)
>Independent Action D (4 points, or 1? I'm assuming 4)
>Territory Creation D (4 points)
>Presence Concealment C (6 points)

Personal Skills:
>High Speed Spells EX (Duh, gotta have it)
>Divinity EX (Why the hell not? Time to be Magic Jesus or something.)

Noble Phantasm (35 points available)
This one's confusing. I already bought Rank EX earlier, do I have to pay 15 to buy it again?

Assuming I do, 15 for EX rank, 15 for +3 modifier (whatever that means), Form of Technique, Classification Anti-World. Also, if you have 35 points, it seems you can only spend up to 30 of them with EX and +3, unless you can spend that last 5 on an extra +1?

I casts teh magic what makes teh peoples fall down. Or explode. Or maybe it's divine wrath/some sort of magical super-item, based on the other Saber abilities I chose?

Someone might have to help translate this for me.

Finally we come to the relationship between the Supervisor and Saver. They start off very cordial but somewhat removed from one another, with the Supervisor still a little shaken by his father's death and Saver being naturally a bit aloof (this aloofness is exacerbated by her insecurities concerning whether or not she can really live up to the expectations of a Divine Spirit despite being of human origin). The pair do warm up to each other a little, although whilst they're friendly they don't exactly confide in one another just yet.

As the second week of the Grail War begins, the fragile peace is yet again shattered by Berserker, but in a much more devastating way. Over the past few days, she has been siphoning mana to power her Noble Phantasm: a bizarre Anti-World spell that stretches across the entire continent, causing people to randomly begin mutating into horrific abominations irreversibly who go on rampages. Approximately 2% of the population is initially affected by this, and the abomination are strong enough that this causes widespread anarchy. As it becomes clear that Circe's spell is only just beginning, every Servant is forced to mobilise to deal with the monsters and put a stop to the rampaging Berserker.

>>
>>52640930

Sure! This isn't an in-depth breakdown or anything, just some notes. Fair warning that I have no clue what a Touhou is so any references to that will go over my head.

Regarding the world: Basically there's a big battle royale that takes place between seven wizards contracted to seven powerful spirits, winner gets a wish granted by the holy grail. The spirits, called Servants, are all way, way stronger than the wizards. The CYOA is about making one of those Servants for an imaginary Grail War-the thing I'm writing up is a story about one such Grail War, using characters made by other anons.

Your character seems pretty solid to me with regards to you knowing how the CYOA functions. Some pointers, though:

-Servants, and thus their Noble Phantasms, are based off historical/mythical figures and more rarely fictional characters of sufficient fame and cultural relevance. Read the Wiki for some examples so you can flesh out your Caster's backstory and how their Phantasm works.

Hope that helped!

The battle against Berserker is one that would be befitting of a Grail War's finale in scope and grandeur were it not for the number of still living contestants. The sheer anarchy that the monsters created by Circe's Noble Phantasm cause is enough to mobilise every other Heroic Spirit, causing every Servant and 'Saber' to track the island territory at the heart of Berserker's spell, ready to confront her.

The island itself is guarded by Circe's strongest abominations, terrifying masses of twisted flesh utterly unrecognisable as the humans that they once were. Each is strong enough to contend with a weak Heroic Spirit, and they significantly outnumber the united Servants.

As a result, this battle is the first incident where some of the Servants really let loose and show off their strength. Lancer still holds back the bulk of his skills, but Caster and Assassin both manage to work out how his 'Anathema' protection that defends him from powerful magic and weapons work by watching how he reacts to different threats.
>>
>>52636480
Whats with the Phantasm thing. No explanation.
>>
>>52640884
Magic isn't real. Of course I'm not quoting it like it's fact.
>>
>>52641217
Assassin herself has her 'Force Blade' Phantasm revealed, and Caster's curiously berserk style of combat is made apparent to all, as well as the access she has to the mercenary equipment of her Master. Saver doesn't reveal herself directly, instead hiding and reinforcing her other Spirits with her Shielder power, which the others assume is projected by 'Saber', earning the perceived weakest Heroic Spirit some respect at last.

Archer remains utterly and maddeningly impossible to classify, simply strolling through the battlefield untouched as he wreaks havoc with his magical tarot cards and his enemies seem to miraculously fall around him. Nobody's quite sure what his deal is, and nobody is certain that they want to find out. Even Rider makes an appearance, but holds back immensely to the point where the only thing anyone can tell is that he's slippery as hell and very difficult to harm.

Once it starts looking like Berserker is doomed, Caster's Master sets up a plan he established with her earlier, causing a set of controlled explosions that kill her. The others, unaware of her Noble Phantasm that allows her to reincarnate, now believe her dead, leaving her and her master free to plot.

The other Spirits band together and put an end to Berserker. There's an unspoken consensus to avoid any infighting after the show of teamwork everyone pulled, but with nobody sure who was behind the explosions and everyone assuming the culprit to be one of the Masters of the present Servants, tensions are beginning to rise.

Berserker, Heroic Spirit Circe, has fallen, and the other Servants have a decent idea of how most of their peers fight.

This whole grail war thing seems like a massive clusterfuck that I would be better off avoiding, so the goal is to break free. Maxed out independent action means that I'm not reliant on a master, and while casters might not be good against other servants, they're not my primary enemy. Normal humans are. In that case, instant and powerful spellcasting will be very useful in backstabbing and escaping whatever human is foolish enough to think that they can use me as a weapon in their mad scramble for power.

I have to admit that the characters who ended up coming across as super OP weren't the ones I envisioned looking that strong at the start. Archer particularly surprised me, whereas Saver is the opposite in that I expected her to be a Mary Sue and hog the spotlight when in actuality I really want to include more of her but other people keep getting in the way.

Whilst the next few days lack any real conflict, there's a definite sombre mood permeating the city, which has already been badly ravaged by the Grail War. Archer and Saver's masters are especially hit by the deaths, and despite his harsher upbringing Assassin's master is pretty down too. With Berserker's death and Caster's perceived death, they're starting to realise how serious the whole thing really is. Caster's detonation trick has done particular damage to morale, as a jarring reminder that any alliances made during the Grail War leave one vulnerable to betrayal.

Archer and Assassin's tight-knight group begins to fray a little, which does have the side effect of escalating the romance between Assassin and her Master and progressing the father-daughter relationship between Archer and his Master. Interestingly, both groups find themselves spending more time with the Supervisor, unaware of his hidden role and appreciating the idea of a neutral ground. Saver and her Master are beginning to confide in each other a little-the Supervisor has learned the truth about her being a human being worshipped as a god, and Saver knows more about his insecurities about his father and his weakness compared to the real Heroic Spirits.

Meanwhile, Lancer and his homunculus Master continue to enjoy their developing humanity, to the point where Lancer is considering wishing for humanity instead of fulfilling his dream of surpassing the 'natural' Servants. Despite this, he is growing increasingly restless due to the lack of battles. His Master has set up her own surveillance plans, but Archer's blind luck has consistently foiled them so far-at least, until Archer's group begins to distance themselves from that of Assassin. Suddenly Assassin and her Master begin to be traceable, by both Lancer's Master and Caster...

Lancer's Master is the less ruthless of the two and hesitates to capitalise on Assassin's Master's vulnerability. Caster hesitates too, fearing that reappearing too rapidly could backfire if the Masters continue their streak of teamwork and strike at her together as they did with Berserker.

Ultimately Caster's team works out the best solution first, and strikes with utterly ruthless efficiency to capture Assassin's Master (he puts up a surprisingly good fight for a Magus, but not good enough). Whilst Caster could kill him outright, she instead takes him hostage, holding his continued health over Assassin's head in order to blackmail her. Essentially, she can act as Caster's effective Servant and proxy, or she can let her beloved Master die. Despite the emotional turmoil, it's no real choice at all: Assassin accepts, and becomes the pawn of Caster, who is still presumed dead by all others.

Meanwhile, 'Saber' is training hard to combine the skills of a Servant with his Executor training, whilst Lancer spends some time familiarising himself with modern technology such as explosives after noting how effective they were against Caster. Archer and his Master worry about Assassin's disappearance, torn between suspecting a betrayal and fearing that some terrible fate has befallen the pair. Of course, the truth is that both events occurred.

Standing apart from the slowly blossoming Grail War, Loki waits.

It's part of the reason most of us like being Wizards instead of Clerics. Fate/Zero is a fantastic place to start in the universe and a fantastic place to end if you have little tolerance for anything but great quality. Fate/Stay Night will let you know exactly what the fuck is going on with the Saber waifu memes, which if you follow this order will be jarring since her temperament is completely different.

But seriously, you should not miss out on the Banquet of Kings. And you should stay far, far away from the rest of the Nasuverse else be sucked in by the autism that is the Type-Moon wiki.

Caster immediately sets about using Assassin as bait, having the unfortunate Servant research Archer, Lancer and 'Saber' as much as possible. At this point Rider is reluctantly considered a lost cause due to the absolute nightmare attempting to trace him as proven to be.

Assassin is almost killed by Lancer during one such meeting, resulting in Caster's team making their most ruthless decision yet, sending the Servant to kidnap Archer's Master after taking advantage of their hospitality and goodwill towards Assassin. With Assassin's beloved Master on the line, she has no choice but to obey. Archer's probability manipulation fails him for the first time as he is handed his first defeat-the emotional turmoil of her Master's captivity combined with Mana provided by Caster after she learned of Assassin's abilities has allowed Assassin to permanently trigger her strongest Noble Phantasm "The Master is Above the Servant" whilst her Master is threatened by Caster. This incredible increase in her abilities combined with Archer's initially sympathetic stance towards her allows Assassin to trap Archer in a 'no-win' situation where there is absolutely no chance of him defeating her and simultaneously keeping his Master alive.

Ultimately, Caster gains custody of another Master whilst retaining Assassin in her service. Caster blackmails Archer just as she did Assassin, securing the services of yet another powerful Servant.

At this point, the other Masters have realised that Caster is still alive, and suspect Assassin and Archer to have been brought round to her side. The stage is set for the War's next great battle.

>>52642230

Nasuverse is the universe the Fate series runs in along with several other series written by Nasu. He did Tsukihime as well and Kara no Kyoukai all of which take place in the same world but have wildly different focuses.

Fate revolves around mages and the Holy Grail War.

>So are there VNs and anime of each series, or are they separate things with different stories?

The VN came out over a decade ago and there was an animation a few years after that kinda melded a lot of routes. There were 3 routes in the original VN. Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. All 3 have different endings and basically revolve around heroine choice. Fate is Saber's arc, Unlimited Blade Works is Rin's arc, and Heaven's Feel is wormslut's arc. There is also Fate/Zero which is a prequel of the previous Holy Grail war but this was not written by Nasu but instead Urobuchi who gets off to suffering so there is a shit ton of that. Recently Unlimited Blade Works route was adapted and Heaven's Feel is getting a few movies.

Basically play the VN if you have time and go through all 3 routes. Then watch Fate/Zero. Unlmited Blade Works is a good watch just for the animation.

Then there is a whole bunch of additional shit like Fate/Grand Order mobile game. Prisma Illya which focuses on best girl who did not get her own arc and is for pedophiles. Fate/Apocrypha. Fate/hollow ataraxia. The list goes on.

There - a gust of wind - and gone, leaving only bloodshed in her wake.

Ignoring the flowery bullshit, this build's point is to move in, slash the fuck out of anything with the NP sword, and move out before people even fully realize she's there. Spells, physical or mental, don't stop her - and if they decide to try and go for me as the weaker link, well, that's why she's got Self-Field Defense. It's a last-ditch emergency option, but it's a nice ace in the hole.
>>

Is there an official, or at least reliable and convenient, place to get the Fate/Stay Night VN, then? If I'm gonna get myself into this, I might as well start by going balls-deep.
>>
>>52642365
I realize now that I should describe the NP. It's a simple blade. Not fancy iron, not terribly well-made, no crossguard, just a simple bronze sword with a leaf-shaped, slightly notched blade. It is named Fragarach, the Answerer, and it cuts like wind. I don't know a damn thing about F/S N, so if this already exists, then it is NOT Fragarach. In that case, it is simply the first sword forged. "Simply" is relative.
>>
>>52642446

If you said that you don't want to read the VN and are somewhat busy I would just watch the anime. The VN is better but the anime does the job. Art is kinda dated and it is DEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNN. But still if you don't have time to sink into the VN just watch the anime.
>>
>>52642482
I like VNs. The concept of an LN didn't sound like it was worth my time as opposed to an anime, but I like VNs, in general.
>>
>>52642500

I have not gone looking for the VN for a long time. The translation is here though

http://mirrormoon.org/projects/complete/fatestay-night/

I don't recall if they ever made an official translation or you can buy the VN. I really think at this point Nasu is a bit ashamed of the original because he forced sex scenes in to try and sell it.
>>
>>52642446
The VN is very long. You may be better served by watching the anime, but there's the issue with the first FSN anime - it's QUALITY by Studio DEEN. It's also not very optional because it covers the first path, Fate, which is Saber's route. There was a more recent FSN anime covering the Unlimited Blade Works arc, Rin's route, and that one is fantastic looking since it's Ufotable, but then you miss the Fate context. And neither of these covers the wormslut Heaven's Feel route, which is so deep in hentai that it's really hard to cover it without slapping on an 18+ gate.

You could get away with just the UBW anime, but honestly I say just start with Fate/Zero. The only thing you'll be confused on is some of the last episode, where it starts to tie into the prelude of Fate/Stay Night.

Chronologically speaking, Fate/Zero covers the 4th Holy Grail War. Fate/Stay Night covers the 5th. GrailAnon's covering the 6th.
>>
>>52642334

With Caster's machinations having positioned her and her master into effective control over two other Servants, Lancer and 'Saber' reluctantly form an alliance in order to deal with the overwhelming advantage that Caster seems to have earned herself. Rider joins the group, although he is not trusted by the other two-his reasoning is that as the War itself is his wish, Caster winning too rapidly would bring an end to his revelry.

The two servants and the pseudo-Servant thus pool their resources, charting their memories of Assassin's recent movements along with poring over maps to find good areas for a Mage's Territory in order to triangulate the location of Caster's domain. Once they have ascertained that location and made all their preparations, the siege begins.
>>
>>52642555
Can I poke this >>52642365 at you, or is it too late?
>>
>>52642575
Afraid that it's too late at this point, since introducing new Servants midwar gives the newcomers a huge advantage typically, and doesn't really work with how the War typically functions. I might be able to sneak in a minor cameo somewhere, though.

>>52642538

The battle against Caster is announced by Rider's unleashing of the Noble Phantasm Hvedrungr, Roar of the Breaking Earth. By inducing powerful earthquakes around Caster's territory, many of her painstaking preparations are either undone or outright backfire. Caster's territory isn't totally compromised however, and it remains under her overall control. After this opening salvo, the attacking group readies themselves to surge in, hoping to quickly defeat Caster before Assassin and Archer join the fray.

Their hopes are dashed however, as Caster's labyrinthine domain manages to divide the attacking force, resulting in Lancer facing off against Archer in single combat whilst 'Saber' and Rider battle the empowered Assassin together. As they fight, Caster manipulates her domain from a safe distance to further impede the progress of her would-be assailants.

Oh, it is? In that case, it's not a legend. It's the first sword, long-forgotten but still sharp. The first sword forged in fire, the first sword raised in anger, the first sword wielded by human hands, the sword of which all others were born. It is not folded one million times. It is not infinitely magical. But when drawn, it becomes indefinably realer than the world around it, like a photograph pasted to a drawing.

>>52642699
The sword...cuts. It does not have fancy tricks, it doesn't drain all the blood from your body, it doesn't slash you a million times in a single stroke. It slashes, as any sword would, and it cuts, as any sword would, and all the magic and tricks and nonsense are revealed in the harshness of reality.
>>
>>52642774
I realized that sounded like gibberish. In game-mechanic terms, what it means is that the sword is so indefinably real that the inherent unreality of magic and legends simply are less to it. A mighty sorcerer's staff is a fanciful stick, a legendary sword is a sharp piece of metal, and they are not any less than they were but instead they were always that way as the legends are stripped from them.

Or, to simplify it even further: the sword is a tool that says "fuck your noble phantasms and your bullshit, we're fighting this out like two relatively normal people, and I actually know how to fight."

Saber is an overrated whore of a character.

Assassin takes Rider and 'Saber' by surprise with her ferocious combat ability, since this is the first time that they've fought her since Caster activated her Noble Phantasm. Despite being outnumbered, she more than holds her own against the pair to the point where 'Saber' is certain that he would be overwhelmed in seconds alone. Whether Rider is equally challenged by her or simply holding back is more difficult to say, but she certainly seems to be more combat-capable and powerful than he is. Ultimately Assassin is thwarted by a cheap trick played by Rider, who abuses his EX-ranked Endurance to lure her into what should be a perfect killing blow, allowing 'Saber' to defeat her when Rider grapples her to hold her in place instead of dying. Before 'Saber' even has the opportunity to ask Rider how he is, the enigmatic Servant escapes using powerful magic and the Disengage skill, leaving 'Saber' to advance onwards to face Caster alone. He can't bring himself to actually kill Assassin, but his Executor training allows him to be ruthless and thoroughly disable her to the point where she'd be lucky to recover the ability to move, let alone fight.

Meanwhile, Archer and Lancer's fight is an entirely different beast to the harsh and brutal close-quarters battle that is taking place elsewhere in Caster's domain. Lancer continuously advances, unleashing blisteringly fast attacks with his nigh-unparalleled strength and swatting aside Archer's tarot cards without any difficulties whatsoever. By all rights, the battle should be already over. And yet Lancer's every blow seems to miss or backfire, his warrior's grace somehow seeming more like the foolish capering of a jester. At this point, the warping of the world imposed by Archer's terrifying Noble Phantasm is practically perceptible, and Lancer can actively feel reality rewriting itself so that his every action leads to the least effective outcome.

Yeah, probably. I used to be able to, and then one day I wasn't.

Eventually, Lancer manages to come to the same conclusion as Assassin-to deal with Archer, one must make it so that every possibility results in a loss for the Servant. Bitterly lamenting that he be forced to resort to his ultimate skill with so many foes remaining to face, the powerful Servant unleashes the Noble Phantasm known as Arbiter, the Heaven-Slaying Blade. The sword warps reality itself, consuming the power of Archer and Lancer alike into itself before channelling that terrible devastation into a pillar of energy that lances into the sky, reaching greater heights than any mountain. Once the terrible light dissipates, the results of the battle shock even Caster from her lofty observation platform.

Nothing remains of the nameless Servant Archer, last vestige of a forgotten spirit of fortune, save the still-potent vestiges of his reality-warping magics still hanging in the air, preserved by some unknown purpose.

And yet, Lancer, surely the victor of this strange bout, lies prone on the ground, armour destroyed and blood pouring from countless wounds. All but one of his lives erased simultaneously, and rendered barely capable of movement. Through some impossible quirk of fate, the wide blast he unleashed enveloped him as surely as it did Archer, despite the Servant's masterful control over his weapon. A truly unlucky occurrence.

Seems to be working so far; we'll see how the downloads go, and then the unpacking, and then, and then and then.... Thanks for the link, though!
