So I guess I can mooch off the vampire lady that thinks we're related while studying magic with an adorable mute itty bitty kitty who likes me. The only downside is that I have an annoying fairy following me. That honestly shouldn't be that bad since I grew up with several siblings and would most likely get lonely without at least one within a few miles of me. Plus Chen supposedly can't talk, so there's that.

I'm actually kind of concerned now that I'm starting to think about this set up. Everyone thinks I'm related to Remilia, but will they think I'm related to Scarlet? Will she recognize that I'm not related to her but am to Remilia? Is that going to be some weird hole in her memory that will lead to suspicion? Will they see that Cirno also thinks shes related to me and think I've done something to change how they think things are? Wouldn't they technically be correct?

Fuck it, I got Chen.

Alright, so I've been struggling with how I was going to approach ship stuff for ages now, and I finally think I've gotten something down that I'm somewhat happy with. The rest of the ship stuff would be organized into weapon module choices, defense module choices, support module choices, ship perks, and crew composition. Let me know if you guys think it's presented far too confusingly and if I should give it more room, etc.
If you were wondering about the inconsistent text for the companions, I took them straight out of ES2's academy and tried to truncate them as much as I could. There's about two pages worth of them.
If you guys want, I'll also post pages 1-4.

Grane popped in out of the sky, and serves as both the magnificent bastard of MGPI, the planner (Plans may seem something a normal person would be insane to attempt, yet work well), and his sword-sized knife (The vorpal blade) is damn sharp.

Not worth a damn for stealth. Or fashion taste. He looks like a clown was raised by a rich 19th century family.

Lucky for you, that is literally the definition of Mantis' power. She isn't that great at anything else, though, so it's a good thing she has Techmouse to help her out.

Two more members of MGPI sound pretty much like gravy at this point; more support would of course be helpful and welcome, but the dynamic duo sounds like a powerhouse.

Dungeon of the Endless, Endless Legend and Endless Space 2 have a certain charming quality to them; glad you like it. The Endless CYOA is my first, and I figured that a good way to make myself motivated to finish it is to make a CYOA about something I love!

Let me know how you guys feel about how I implemented Dust powers, too; I intended for them to be something that you have to invest in, and for it to be very hard to maintain a Dust-powered build without going to the Academy. It also helps to very clearly partition the "power levels" and scale of builds - if you're especially strong, people are going to take notice and you're going to have to do higher-tier and more dangerous/taxing missions at the end of the day.
Also, keep in mind that pricings and the amount of money you start with is NOT final; still have to put in everything before I can get a good feel for it.
>>52422596
Personally, they're my favorite 4x. Endless Space 1 is pretty mediocre, but Endless Legend is REALLY damn good and has a lot of character. Dungeon of the Endless is a weird roguelike/turn based strategy/tower defense hybrid. Endless Space 2 is around the same quality as Endless Legend, but it's not got as much content by virtue of still being in beta.
If I were you, I'd consider first picking Endless Legend up on sale or pirating it to try it out; their presentation is pretty hit-or-miss with people. If you're playing multiplayer, don't pick up the expansions - you use all the content the host of the match has installed, expansions and all. Also, be warned - they are VERY hard to learn without outside support!

I REALLY need feedback on the companions section. Since I took them almost word-for-word from ES2's Academy (Alongside ES/EL for the Vaulters and Sowers), they've got vastly varying description sizes. Though I've tried to truncate them, it's practically impossible to include a lot of them without either making them tiny or making the description boxes huge and adding like one or two more pages to the CYOA. Tell me which you guys would prefer.
>>
>>52422787
Companions are very important. If that's what it takes, add more pages instead of making things smaller. I like the image sizes you have going. I wouldn't mind two or three pages of exclusively companions.

Related note, is "Dust-Dependent" on a future page? I don't see it in the traits, and the dust vampires are noted as gaining it as a racial trait.

Tell me what you think of it all so far; I still have to add the bulk of the Ship section, the section for Planetary residency and property, and the Missions for each faction. Once the Unfallen get released for Endless Space 2, I'll start working on an Unfallen/Dungeons of the Endless expansion, which should include personal errata like weaponry, equipment, planetside vehicles, etc.

>>52422824
And you've just notified me that I have two different names for that trait mentioned in the CYOA. Thanks!
>>

Are you planning on adding concrete mechanical benefits to the companion descriptions, or possibly requiring certain kinds of companions to complete missions? Or are you leaving that more to interpretation?

>>52422737
I think you should explain offfset and what it does. Does it mean it nullifies a trait, or just weakens?
>>
>>52422943
It cancels it out; so if you, for example, don't want to be a weakling if you picked Sophon, you can foot the Dust bill and be a musclebound deity among Sophons - which, at the end of the day, roughly translates to a normal person's strength. In a similar vein, if you want an extra bit of Dust and don't care about your physical aptitude as a Craver, you could choose Frail and still be strong enough to match a normal person in a fight. Just don't get into any fights with any other nine-foot four-armed cyborg-insects and you'll be fine.

May as well post it for him to see later.
Most of this has been said before, but here it is:
>4 tokens is really expensive for being male, and you could get the same sort of effect with a less absurd price. Maybe halve it?
>I actually don't mind the idea of extra tokens for skill, but it doesn't make any sense for fighting game players, casual main game players, and people who mostly like the setting to get bupkiss.
>It's kinda weird that there's no "Gensokyo human" level. If you tone down the existing benefits for liking touhou, you could have that as a small way to make up the difference.
>Doujin is hella expensive. I'm not really into it, but five points is really expensive especially if you want to buy Further Alterations on top of it.
>The names of the Alterations are inconsistent, with formatting varying even in the descriptions of choices.
>How many people does a Headcanon affect by itself? Just one?
>Alterations are really hard to buy into, at 3 points for a single wide-scale Headcanon, and 6 points for something big (even if you don't want 24/7 fucking). You could fix this and simplify it at the same time by replacing the whole section with something like "-1 per change, -1 if the change affects more than 5 people, and -1 for exceeding these limits. Lewd changes must have the appropriate world alteration."

>The Self Bonuses are actually very well done (not giving too much value, and can be bought cheaply), but it just exacerbates the dearth of coins for non-touhou players. Also, make the minor boon purchaseable as well - either as a package deal with the house or by itself (though they might not be worth a whole token as they are).
>Buddhist Monk's formatting is different than both Grimhou and the drawbacks. You might want to standardize it.
>Waifu is pretty expensive. Is that just to discourage polygamy?
>The drawbacks are... harsh. Despite the few points goven, there might be one or two worth taking under any circumstance. Also, why are they all focused on a character? You could have magical misfires or a disproportionate libido give points, and that's just offhand.

If you care about my opinion, I'd change it to
>10 starting points
>Up to 6 power points, 3 from actual skill and 3 from miscellaneous Touhou feats (spending money on it, knowing the setting before reading the CYOA, etc).
>One coin buys/changes both the house and misc. perk
>Streamlined Further Alterations, with more straightforward costs
>Some of the more expensive powers and perks discounted by a point or so
>Drawbacks varied a bit; some of the BS "you can't overcome it no matter what" ones replaced with better ones. Maybe a softening overall if the starting points are moved back to 8/8.

Coming from a long line of famous hunters, Isador was literally raised to fight. He's been taught to enjoy combat, and is almost always seen with a strange smile on his face on the battlefield that manages to be both childishly cute to a few and disturbing to everyone.

The dude's got a crappy social life, as his family is most well-known for hunting down criminals and the rare rogue Hunter, the fact that he isn't afraid to use his money nearly all the time doesn't help either.

I am not strong. I am not tough. I am a mastermind, a commander, guiding my followers from a pod on the bridge through which Dust constantly flows. I am known and despised by many non-Vodyani for the frequency and callousness with which I harvest life-forms for dust, but my ship-to-ship tactics, enhanced by the dust sharpening my senses and mental processes, enable my Ark to destroy any and all who would take direct action against me.

Man, I've never even heard of these games and I'm super into this.

Spoken like a true Vodyani. May you bring death to the Heretic and all of his perverse flock!

As for the Arks, there's only going to be one way to acquisition them, and it's going to deal with the highest tier Vodyani mission. If you really want to spoil it for yourself, it's the Great Penance. The Church of the Virtual Saints has finally found the Heretic: at the head of a great and powerful navy rivaling that of the Church's own. Preaching his lies and claiming there is a path to life without the harvesting of lesser species, the time for his reckoning has come. There are two paths to this mission: either fight alongside your original employers and stamp out the last hope for the redemption of the Vodyani people, or be a turncoat and destroy the Church that would elevate the Vodyani to godlike power.
The reward for staying loyal is a Vodyani people with the power of gods let loose on the galaxy. If you weren't already a Vodyani, you will be deemed worthy and converted into one instead of being harvested for essence. You are also given control over a Vodyani Ark, though it's far more like serving as a planetary governor than owning a weapon of mass destruction; they house all of the Vodyani civilians that still exist.
If you side with the Heretic, congrats, you just saved the galaxy. The Church is abolished, and anyone who's ever lost family or friends to a Vodyani abduction will treat you like a king.
>>
>>52423178
The loyalty is implied with the individuals spells, not vampirism, so I don't see why it would, though it is odd to think you can create thralls with non-vampire blood
>>
>>52423258
Heeeeeeeeeheheheheheheheheheh. With Mantis' semblance, she can launch herself off the motorcycle, smash through a wall with all that momentum, taking damage, and IMMEDIATELY start the fight with a massive strength boost.

NOTHING CAN STOP THE MANTIS SHRIMP! ALL BOW TO THE MAGPIE!

>>52423280
Tempting, tempting... The problem with joining the Heretic is that vampirism is still the most fun and easy way to gain dust. I'm sure his alternate way works fine, but vampirism is fun, man. Death to the Heretic! Death to the non-Vodyani! All bow to the power of the Virtual Gods and their Vodyani Saints!

Author here, thank you for the feedback, but I've said time and time again that you only need to drop 1-2 tokens into powerlevel for any non-power based build. If I do do a revision, I think I'd probably do 10 starting points, plus trying to make it more clear that taking Doujin mostly nullifies the threat of being (non-sexually) attacked so that lewd builds can just take male outsider. Further alterations is a little clunky, but it does specify multiple times that changes can be applied to one touhou, all touhous, or multiple; and I can't really be bothered redoing the whole section. Also most of the drawbacks are based on fanon memes due to the whole "persistent ideas are influencing gensokyo" thing, though I guess thats not completely clear.

I may do a revision at some point soon but it would probably be a fairly minor one.

I dunno anon, Horatio IS the Ultimate Lifeform after all. He's also beautiful. And smart. And funny, and complex, and wise - really, his blessings are too numerous to count.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exRFQXX3oeg
He'll also be a hell of a lot more perfect once he disposes of the first batch of clones that were a bit too authentic to follow orders. After they're gone, he'll be free to make his second-class non-Horatio citizens disappear in the night, harvesting their genetic material to splice into his beautiful Horatio clones to turn all Horatio into the ultimate species. Hell, once he's done with that, he might even invent a way to alter alien species so much on a genetic level that they'll be Horatio themselves!

But really though, whoever does the faction intro cutscenes at Amplitude deserves a fucking raise. They're all amazing!

What, 1cc a Touhou game? It's not especially difficult on Normal unless you've never played a bullet hell game before, and on Easy it's, well, easy. Above that it can get challenging.

Besides, you have to 1cc on at least Normal to get a good ending in Touhou games. Easy nets you a bad/incomplete ending, and you don't even get to play the last stage in 6 if you play it on Easy.

But, for the most part, that isn't *fun*. People like standing out, which would require a Strong Youkai. It might not be entirely logical, but picking one of the cheapest options in a list of ten does have psychological effect - instead of "barely strong enough to matter", it's "two steps above a 'practical death sentence'".
Also, do you have any comments on my slightly cheesy Half-Youkai double magician? Estimated power level? Flaws?
>If I do do a revision, I think I'd probably do 10 starting points, plus trying to make it more clear that taking Doujin mostly nullifies the threat of being (non-sexually) attacked so that lewd builds can just take male outsider.

>Also most of the drawbacks are based on fanon memes due to the whole "persistent ideas are influencing gensokyo" thing, though I guess thats not completely clear.

I still have no idea how people are even remotely able to do that. I guess shmups are just beyond my ken, but no matter how many times I try, it just seems physically impossible unless you're some kind of freaky Newtype. Oh well.

Um. I'd like to address some posts that I couldn't respond to in the previous thread regarding the Tank Crew WIP.

Firstly, there were two anons who advocated for a distinction between "medium" and "heavy" tanks. I realise I addressed this back when I posted the original WIP, but it bears repeating; as someone with extremely limited military knowledge, I see very little functional difference between a medium tank and a heavy tank, or at least, none that would make any mechanical difference in this CYOA; hence why I rolled them into one "Battle Tank" umbrella category. Please understand.

Next, one Anon expressed interest in seeing more tank variants. While I did like the sound of their suggestions, I can only fit so much on one page, and early on it was suggested to me to try and keep choices simple. This is why I've made efforts to try and make each type as vague and inclusive as possible. Picking one option out of six is going to be a lot faster and less patience-consuming than one out of ten, and you haven't even gotten to the waifus yet.

One last thing that sort of encompasses all of this; the stats given for each tank type are not the final values you will have; the page 2 upgrades and the page 3 crew members will have a much stronger effect on your tank's abilities and stat values. If you pick a tank type but feel unhappy with how it's presented, you can always take choices that will bring it more in line with your perfect vision of a Big Dick War Machine. Besides, this is a CYOA about your Tank CREW; they are the most important deciding factor on your tank's abilities, not it's design.

But I've rambled and reasoned enough. Time for me to get back to work.

Drunk Suika (+1) Get a free token for partying with an oni. Where are the downsides?
Annoying Komeiji (+2) So all I have to do is shoo her away before she says something embarrassing. Not too bad.
Brat Cirno (+2) I do have siblings, but none of them happens to be a cute ice fairy.
Smug Kogasa (+3) Give the poor karakasa obake a reason to live. And even if I won't be able to beat her up, someone else will.
Klepto Marisa (+2) She actually returns most of the stolen things? At least she isn't "borrowing them until her death".
Yandere (+3) I don't really have a most hated Touhou, although there are some I like less than the others. Yoshika Miyako (how can a magically controlled corpse feel love? I guess Seiga may be behind this), Rumia, Mamizou, Yorihime and her sister, and maybe a couple of others. I better watch out for any of these girls.
Reimu dislikes you (+1) Not surprising, considering she doesn't trust non-humans. I may be able to offset this by offering financial help, though.
Voyeur Aya (+1) Annoying, but she doesn't have the Kogasa immunity, which means I can kick her ass to my heart's content. Also, I could probably cooperate with Hatate to drive her newspaper out of business.

It might not be entirely logical, but picking one of the cheapest options in a list of ten does have psychological effect - instead of "barely strong enough to matter", it's "two steps above a 'practical death sentence'".
Fair enough I suppose, but I intended the extra powerlevel stuff to mostly be a bonus for people who played the games while still being purchasable if you didn't. I knew that would probably prove somewhat unpopular, but it was just my vision sorry.
>Also, do you have any comments on my slightly cheesy Half-Youkai double magician? Estimated power level? Flaws?
Depends on how you want to fluff it. In the canon, magicians can reach Overpowered if they try hard enough, though it usually takes a long time depending on talent.
>It only mentions those in the Magical Realms (which are upgrades); the Headcanon options never say how many Touhous they affect.

Derrick. Just Derrick.
16 year old Human male.
Outlaw (-10). From an outlying bandit clan, Derrick's family scraped together enough Lien for him to attend Haven Academy.

Aura: Burnt Orange.
Semblance: Witch. He's telekinetic.

Gifts: Intelligence, Memory, Strength
Talents: Engineering

Weapon: Cybernetic Arm (Dust Mod, Blaster Aug)
Gear: Scroll, Dust Charges

A mechanical genius and gadget-man. The rest of his bandit clan never respected his technical skills outside repairing their weapons. When a Grimm attack left him without one arm and many other clan members dead, he cobbled together crude cybernetics to get the bandits on their feet again. While primitive by Atlas standards, these mechanical limbs are impressive considering how little Derrick had to work with. His views are forcing his clan to modernize and they've sent him to Haven to learn as much about cutting edge tech as he can, to bring it back and better arm them.

In combat, Derrick relies on his telekinesis to clinch and hold targets so he can get close and fire his blaster directly into unprotected weak spots. A brawler with a bit of a sadistic streak, he has no problems with crippling human foes. He cares only for his family.

That's the idea. Any powers you get from racial bonuses, however, don't unlock the tier for them; they just work without the unlock. I'm trying to balance it so that people with Dust powers, since they are considerably stronger than their non-Dust-infused peers, must either attend the Academy or take a number of drawbacks to afford it. That way it balances out builds and leads to potentially more interesting builds and characters.

In previous editions I included Amoeba among the starting races, but a dearth of art for them caused me to drop them in favor of the Riftborn once they were released. While they were still in the running, they started with both "Mind-Meld" and "Astral Projection" and gained one companion, but suffered from "Frail" and "Combat Intolerant".
Hell, the only reason the Vaulters are still an option as a major faction is because they have a stupid amount of art - what with being in every Endless game and all. That, and they have a pretty clear and well-defined faction identity/I have a pretty good idea of what their missions would be.

>Fair enough I suppose, but I intended the extra powerlevel stuff to mostly be a bonus for people who played the games while still being purchasable if you didn't. I knew that would probably prove somewhat unpopular, but it was just my vision sorry.
Then putting a blurb "The higher levels are likely unattainable unless you're a diehard player" should help.

>Depends on how you want to fluff it. In the canon, magicians can reach Overpowered if they try hard enough, though it usually takes a long time depending on talent.
My idea for a "true" example (that could happen without dimensional fuckery) is
>A youkai had the ability to see magical energies, and was a font for 'raw' magic herself or something; I don't know shit about the magic system
>However, she couldn't do very much with these powers, despite her unique position to learn the theory of magic.
>So she became a tutor-slash-assistant to a journeyman human Magician, helping him grow and realizing her potential at the same time.
>One thing led to another, and a half-youkai doublewizard was born shortly after.

>They basically just make it so that gensokyo is more how you imagine it to be. Sorry if it wasn't clear, but it affects everyone except touhous that you don't know or don't have any personal headcanons for..
Generic effects (like making everybody curvier) would still work on all the touhous, right?

You goddamn liar.

Also, Archivist is a bit overpowered - it lets you skip the stat requirements for four Terrors (Talon, Bone & Skin, and Primeval Dragon from Tasks, and Moonlake Bard from the skill), as well as giving the absolute best skill - Transcend gives +9 stat points like Vigilance and Conditioning, but it also unlocks two elements besides.

>I dont specifically see why I have to fight terrors since they dont actually give me anything
Aside from having planned the CYOA in a way in which Terror hunts are the goal, killing a Terror, within the world of the CYOA, means unbelievable amounts of fame and all that comes with it. I gotta add that to the intro blurb.
You could also try to make them your rides. Whether or not that'd fly is, well, arguable.
>I dont know how many we're allowed to take so ill just take 4
You can take up to 10 years. One thing you could do is work for 3 years, take on whichever Terror, work for 1 more year and take on another and so on. It wouldn't change the failure chance, though. I am conflicted on wether to change that or not. I am also looking for a way to discourage working 10 years first and then taking on all Terrors, although I am conflicted on whether I'll add it or not.

Ok, so that's good. Knowing I can work for 10 years will force me to think about repeating jobs or whatever. It does seem weird to me how winning against a terror actually makes you less likely to win the next one though. But I get you. At least there's some incentive there to win one or two extra for the story.

It makes no sense, but it also doesn't change anything since stats have no effect on survival, so I'm not sure why some one would bother doing that (other then organizing it that way for readability), or why you'd bother fixing it.

Drachman, born in Galata.
Proficient in Tome, Communion, Traps, Rapier, and explosives.

Skills: Lifecraft, which is the only reason I took explosives instead of some kind of armor.
I guess I also take quickening. Everything has such fucking high requirements that I can't afford anything since the only other stat that I minmaxed was eloquence, which gets me nothing. But at least that bonus bumps me up to afford magic.
I can now afford magic. So I take summoning for my lifeshaping.
Elemental magic bootstraps me up to training and Transcend. Since there's not much left in casting, I train in finesse and only ascend in casting.
That unlocks traps, which unlocks the muffled walk.
Finally, I still have access to alchemy and taming, both of which should supplement my life crafting nicely.

Forest Guardian and Stormcaller will be my companions.

Stats before jobs:
Str: 7
Fin: 12
Cast: 16
Con: 7
Wil: 9
Spd: 7
Cra:15
Elo:20
Sta:6

Caravaneering seems like a good job. I reckon it can transition okay into slaving. After that work in the public sector, it's worth going as an explorer for a while, and putting my traveling skills to a greater challenve.

With the powers I've got, I'm uniquely suited to combat drought, so I do.

And that's an end, so that's as much time as I'm putting into this.

Final stats:

Also, is there any reason why Archivist (19 points, unlocks four Terrors, and two spell elements) is better than, say, Duelist (avg. 5.5 points, unlocks one Terror, and an upgrade that's useless against nonhumanoids)?
>>
>>52425343
>it does seem weird to me how winning against a terror actually makes you less likely to win the next one
Defeating a Terror is a feat not many would be able to achieve. Defeating many Terrors is something that borders on divinity, but taking down one will affect you in one way or another. The way I personally pictured it is that whether you'd win or not would come down to mostly luck, and the more Terrors you fight, the more you're pushing your luck, and at some point it may just give out.
>>52425363
That is, frankly, a fat fucking oversight that went over my head like a 747 at low altitude. I WILL be changing that one now that I've noticed it.

I'm not sure I like how open ended the last two sections are. It gives me sort of an anticlimactic end to an otherwise really epic story. I don't know what becomes of me and my party after I finish killing a Terror, there's no real wrap up or conclusion. I also don't really like that tasks are basically just a way to pad your stats with no repercussions--You don't have to sacrifice anything or choose which ones you really want to do, you just pick what gives the most stats with the least rolling and you're on your way. I really liked the CYOA, but the ending feels a bit off to me.

Alternations: Headcanon (Personality) - Mostly to match personalities to the Millet Soup doujins. Cute antics are cute, and the shipping is free.

Song bonus: Doll Judgment (Perfect Cherry Blossom, third stage boss theme)
A quaint home with a dock on a lakeshore or river would be nice. Could fish for food, play by or in the water when company visits, good times all around.

Character bonus: Ran Yakumo, her design (designs mostly being the only thing staying vaguely consistent among the various stories). Fluffy! (+bonus to looks)

Job: Magician
Sure, I'm not weak as a youkai, but magic! There's magic in this world! Of course I'm going to be interested in studying it.

Perks: Internet, Sake Jug, Introduction (Patchouli).
Can't give up the web, and the booze will make inviting people over that much more pleasant. And I definitely want to make a good impression on the mistress of the Scarlet Devil's library, both for access to the tomes, and because that's where most of the choice antics start in my favorite doujins. I won't need Reimu to meet the best waifus!

Aside from people being able to physically walk to her house, Cirno and Kogasa are chumps (relatively speaking, as Cirno is still the strongest fairy), and Chen doesn't have any real power unless she's acting on orders (and thus borrowing power from her master), but Satori could get around if she wants to. Suika is already comparable to Yukari so the point here isn't that Suika is buffed (she's not) but that Yukari isn't (unless you take the drawback, which would make things better in convincing her to help you get away, but worse in actually enjoying that away time).

Also, you won't have the ability to gather materials and study magic if you hide away in Yukari's house.

You should be safe. Pro tip: ignoring what people tell you about touhou power levels is almost always for the best, as they are likely fanwanking or parroting what they heard from other fanwankers. There is no definitive "strongest" or "weakest" character, you're better off deciding how things work out on your own.
>>
>>52426486
Theoretically, Ran can be as strong as Yukari when acting exactly according to her will, and theoretically, Chen can be as strong as Ran when acting exactly according to her will, or at least as far as I recall. In practice, she's not too hot, though. I mean, enough to tear through you, but you're just a fairy so that's not strange or anything.

>>52426500
There are fairly clear reference points in the official material and from ZUN commentary, however. Although it's not terribly important, none of this shit is anyway.

>>
>>52423981
How would you say the stat points scale?

For example, functional casting ability seems to start at 10 points, and a full Magic skill tree would put you at minimum 15. If one were to specialize in every casting related skill and take all relevant proficiencies, they would be at a minimum of 29 points in casting. Job bonuses seem a bit out of balance with character creation, but we'll try to scale it with that as well.

Seems then that the scaling might be:
>0-9 points = no proficiency
>10-19 points = basic ability (apprentice, fireballs)
>20-29 points = trained but unspecialized, up to lower level professional (journeyman, streams of fire)
>30-39 points = specialized, up to higher level professional (master, tank-shot equivalent)
>40-49 points = highly specialized, probably somewhat well-known (expert, small bomb equivalent)
>50-59 points = personalized magic, small-scale celebrity (genius, firestorm equivalent)
>60+ points, ranges from sustained airstrike to summoning the moon one mile above an enemy city (I'm looking at you, Mr. 124 Casting)

I think that's a fair scale, since magic gives you quite an advantage it only makes sense that you have to invest quite a bit to reach Terror-slaying levels.

As for the other stats, maybe
0-9 (inconsequential, any random NPC in the marketplace)
10-19 (low, random encounter mook)
20-29 (medium, solo encounter or endgame mook)
30-39 (high, end-game solo encounter)
40-49 (extreme, miniboss)
50+ (boss-mode)

Also I assume that for Training the option is supposed to be 12 Finesse, not 2?
>>
>>52426637
I like these. If you're going to include more, please think of including a way to leave Earth for a more interesting world. Lots of these options don't really shine in our magicless, boring world.

I'm going to VERY STRONGLY suggest that you start with Touhou 06 Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil. It's a good way for beginner to get started on Touhou, though it is a little dated. If you want to just 1CC and not earn your wings by being a Casual, Touhou 10 Mountain of Faith is what fans of the games consider "Easy Mode".

DO NOT PLAY TOUHOU 11 SUBTERRANEAN ANIMISM. YOU WILL BE DESTROYED.
>>
>>52426731
It works like how it looks in the image for it; your target must be defenseless, and you very slowly drain them dry with cool blue-yellow effects. If you're need Dust to live (Like a Broken Lord or Vodyani) it will first sate your need, after that it accumulates. I'll leave it up to personal interpretation how that looks. This continues until the victim is a dried up, lifeless husk. You can make mad dosh, and you're going to have to store the dust in canisters or something; the stuff's got the consistency of sand. Plus, you have the whole issue of it being incredibly evil and abhorrent; even the Vodyani Church of the Virtual Saints doesn't let you just do it all the time, though that's more to discourage gluttony and wasting resources than any moral dilemma.

>>52427703
The latter. If it bothers you guys too much, I can just rename Battleships to Cruisers.

>List of errors/clarifications/suggestions:

Page 1

The first sentence under races just states these are inhabitants and doesn't implicitly say you had to choose which race you will be. Furthermore, it would probably help to clarify this by leading in from your introduction what I am doing for this cyoa to help guide readers, for a quick example: ("this is where you come in anon, you are an inhabitant of this world”, “You are reborn in this world what path you choose is up to you") I know what I’m saying is really cheesy and generic but I’m just using these to clarify what I mean by leading in to the cyoa. Right now its just a descriptive text at the beginning and then the reader is left to assume that he has to make a character, but not directly told and in what fashion. Am I and adventurer? A hero? A civilian?

Every race but darkskins has a total of 64 stat points. Darkskins have 65. I dont know if this is intended or not.

Under races

Goldstrand Elves

…rebe[ll]ion happened…
…Darkskin elves are forbidden to enter their refuge

Darkskins elves

[Being] strong, agile, and capable of surviving [most] environments makes them able sailors.

Nightward Elves

…runes they in[s]cribe…
…live in a matriarc[h]al….
...for thie[ve]s and other…

Commentary: I’m unsure what you mean when you say there’s barely any crime. Is this a place that thieves frequent but do not commit crime? Or perhaps thieves frequent with ill intentions but the lands are policed well? This confusion is from calling their settlements “hunting grounds” for thieves, yet imply in your last sentence that there is no crime.

cont
>>
>>52428601

cont

Azrha

…but be[ll]igerent…
…in a patriarc[h]al…

Commentary: You mentioned they were also hated for other reasons, perhaps expand a little on this. Is the raiding historically in the past or continuous policy in the present? I’m assuming its historical or there would be more conflicts between the people of Sadira.

Vecator

Commentary: If they are blind how do they get around? Do they have other senses that are enhanced? Perhaps you can expound on this as blindness seems to be a very big disadvantage, especially if you’re a spellcaster, that most people are not willing to have (let alone being reptilian lol). Maybe get rid of the disadvantage altogether or perhaps make them light sensitive rather than blind (cloaks make sense then).

You should take headcanon:personality and make it your headcanon that all the girl are trans. Then just wait for them to use magic to perfectly transition.

This will only cost you one point and all the girls will become boys.
>>
>>52428296
Something to note about the Vodyani is that they don't necessarily HAVE to drain people to survive; they can still get by via the very slow, painstaking, unfulfilling consumption of Dust normally. It's just that the Church of the Virtual Saints actively endorses such behavior, and the VAST majority (98+%) of Vodyani in the galaxy are a part of the Church, living on Arks. Due to this, most rival power structures, such as the United Empire, actively encourage and support Vodyani citizens, as the only citizens more efficient and effective than them are the Riftborn and Cravers (Though the latter is not good for the planet in the long term).
The general populace and some of the more touchy-feely governments, like the decentralized, isolationist Vaulter Clans and the Four Families, despise the Vodyani as a people for three primary reasons: that they are by and large amoral, racist, predatory slavers that regularly raid them, when they AREN'T slavers they demand higher Dust pay due to their "special diet", and their reproduction involves converting a non-Vodyani with the Cloth (Their suits), losing their memories and personalities. Only one Vodyani, Varb St Rouiena, has reclaimed his memories, and that was because of the Virtual that inhabited his Cloth and elevated him to Living Sainthood.
>>52428429
You'll actively bleed Dust due to the fact that you will have at least one T1 Dust power if you purchase any Dust power. If you want to save Dust to use for later, you'll store it like you would store it as money: small canisters just small enough to fit in your palm.
>>
>>52428803
I didn't notice this, what does it mean to "doube up" on dust powers? Also, how is dust consumed? Do you like put it on your tongue or something?

Doubling up on Dust powers works the same as doubling up on perks. You get double the effect for a similar amount of effort and Dust consumption.
Dust consumption can be done in pretty much every way you could imagine taking a drug, save smoking it. By far the most common method of consuming Dust is through dermal absorbtion in conjunction with inhalation: basically, standing in a cloud of the wonder-stuff. Species who can withstand overt exposure to Dust are rare, but there are several recreational substances and recipes that do feature the stuff as an ingredient. Nelly Ninpere knows how to make - and has served/consumed - many of them, and many expensive Amoeba delicacies contain Dust to make their mind-melding all the more complete and intimate.
>>
>>52428969
>standing in a cloud of the wonder-stuff
I thought dust was like sand or something.
>>
>>52428985
It's got the consistency of very fine sand, but it's still as light as normal dust. If you throw the stuff into the air, it'll linger.
>>
>>52421491
If you are strong can you resist the Yuuka drawback?

>>52428969
>>52429008
Do we absolutely need to unlock Tier 1 to have access to Tier 2 and so on, or can we unlock Tier 3, buy all 3 of its powers and thus have all the Dust powers?

You should also make it more explicit that we can double-dip on dust powers and what that means.

What do you suppose average Vodyani do for fun? Dust-vampirism says that it offers a pretty good thrill, but what else does a race of sentient magic powder get up to or consider a good time?
>>
>>52429193
>unlock Tier 3, buy all 3 of its powers and thus have all the Dust powers
You'd only get the tier 3 powers in that case. And whatever free powers you pick.
>>
>>52425913
What sucks about Blood Thrall? It lets you posses a group of superhuman slaves that you can replace as needed. With none of the vampire weaknesses.
>>
>>52429229
The thing is, that would give me a free power from both previous tiers. So, from what I can see, that means that if I purchase all Tier 3 powers, I'd get 3 free Tier 2 and Tier 1 powers. In other words, all of them for 1600 Dust if I also go to the Academy.
>>
>>52429230
And Blood Bath seems to imply that the other forms of immortality in the CYOA can give off signs of inhumanity, so it's the most low-key one in case you want to go full human society infiltrator.
>>
>>52429278
Oh yeah, I thought unlocking the tier itself let you pick 1 free power. But it says all dust powers, not the tier, so it would be 2000, not 1600.

>>52428969
Say, if you double up on a tier 2 power, does that mean you can get 2 free tier 1 powers? Or double up on 1 tier 1 power?
>>
>>52429297
Yeah, or its possible them being actively magical is able to be detected by other spells. Considering how many of the spells can be placed as traps there probably are some sort of detection spells in that universe.
>>
>>52429348
From the current reading of it, yes.

>>52429308
It should be 1600 since you don't need to unlock the Tier of Dust power obtained for free.

So, it should go
>Tier 3 (400)
>Dust Healing (800)
>Mind Control (1200)
>Astral Projection (1600)
>3 Tier 2 powers (free)
>3 Tier 1 powers (free)

Only thing is that we can't double-dip powers from Tier 1 and 2 seeing as we didn't unlock them.

>Name: Malcolm McCormick
>New arrival [0]

>Semblance: Unstoppable

Malcolm is a very angry person. While he has no particular reason for his anger, he is incredibly prone to flying into fits of rage and breaking everything in sight, which was made worse by the discovery of his semblance.
After years of trying and failing to quell his anger. Malcolm asked to be enrolled in Beacon Academy in order to find a more positive use for his berserker rage, or perhaps find someone who can help him deal with his anger.

Time for 2hu!

>Girl
Yeah, I'm going to need to conserve tokens.

POWER:

I think I 1cc'd EoSD on Easy once. I'm not good at the games.
>Strong Youkai [-4]
Burns a lot of tokens, but this kind of thing matters in Gensokyo.

WORLD:

>Canon
Touhous are not for lewd!
>Headcanon [Personality] [-5]
My own interpretation for particular Touhous would make them much, much easier to befriend, and generally make me more familiar with all the Touhous so I don't piss anyone off too much.

SELF:

My favorite theme... huh, that's tough actually. I guess Native Faith? I guess I have a nice house now. Not that I need it.
>Their Personality
What I love about my favorite Touhou (Alice Margatroid) is the weird parallels/similarities that I seem to have with her, mostly her personality.

JOB:

>NEET
I can always take on something else later without having to spend tokens. Besides, it gives me more freedom.

PERKS:

>Incident [-11]
It'll be fun and a good way to establish myself in the setting. I choose Alice Margatroid (cause she's my favorite), Marisa Kirisame (see drawbacks), Chen (CHEEEEEEEN), Kaguya Houraisan (good NEET buddy to game with and stuff), and Yukari Yakumo (will be able to gap me things from the outside world if I need themI definitely do not want to get on her bad side).

>Internet [-13]
Eternal princess with modern looseness!

DRAWBACKS:

>Yandere [-10]
I honestly don't hate any 2hu. But according to a sorter I did a while back, the one at the bottom of the list is Tokiko, who's pretty weak so I should be able to dispatch her easily.
If we're going by only game characters, the bottom of the list is Great Catfish, who isn't even real.
If we just go by major characters without any bullshit, my least favorite is probably Letty Whiterock. Which will be unpleasant since I hate the cold, but at least I only have to deal with her for 1/4 of the year.
>Klepto Marisa [-8]
Since I made friends with Marisa during the incident this should be less annoying.

I may not have any given stat extremely high (looking at you, 100+ Cast guy and faster-than-light guy), but I’m well-rounded, and besides, I’m probably not fighting, personally. I have a small army on hand.

Terrors
Bone & Skin (Done first, at the request of the Masked Sorceress)
Talon, the Last Colossus (Roll: 7. We survive and defeat a second Terror)
Drought (Roll: 6. Another survival, another Terror slain. We are heralded as demigods, and yet we push on.)
Primeval Dragon (Roll: 5. The dragon nearly defeated us, and some among our party worry that our luck cannot hold. The public worship the ground we walk on, and we could retire as kings and queens… Yet the siren song of the remaining Terrors calls to us, tempting us… One more… One more…)
Immaculate Herald (Roll: 5. The void very nearly consumed us, and yet somehow, our near-death experience has emboldened us. Five Terrors have fallen to us. Surely we can destroy them all, and grant the world a brief moment of peace.)
The Tyrant of Rembas (Roll: 7. The Mountain falls, and we bind it to serve as a great steed for our entire party. We are gods! Onward! Onward to ultimate glory!)
Moonlake Bard (Roll: 9. The Bard was the most feeble of the Terrors we have yet fought! A mere mortal with a Great White blade? All of our gear is imbued with the souls of Great Whites!)
Soul of Alma (Roll: 9. The last known Terror has fallen! Rumors of a great, final, unknown beast reach our ears, and the people cry out for a champion. We will answer the call! Victory or death!)
An Unknown Terror (Roll: 5. Our only regret is that no bards witnessed our final battle with this final Terror. Our names will live on in eternity, with a silent, mournful question mark at the end of our tale.)

Comments about the CYOA itself/my build since my build was too long to fit them in:

Man, that ritual is harsh. Although I think if I tried it, I'd probably be meeting Hecatia instead of Yuyuko.

If I had to choose my powers, it would probably be "using music to create various effects." I love music and I've always wondered how danmaku that follows the rhythm of my favorite songs would look like, or how they would look like if they manifested physically.

As for the type of youkai I am, I think something non-Japanese would do nicely to set me apart. To fit with my musical powers, probably something like a muse. Or maybe since I'm Chinese some sort of yaoguai like a huli jing (Chinese kitsune) or baize (Chinese hakutaku).

It's a good thing I just want to be friends with Touhous instead of fucking them. Otherwise I'd have a bad time.

The drawbacks are pretty harsh considering that they're unavoidable, occur so often, and basically continue for eternity thanks to the setting. But that's probably the point.
>>
>>52423701
Speak for yourself m8, I'm going with soul drinker.
>>
>>52429193
I considered making it a requirement to buy earlier tiers, but at the end of the day it takes up a vast majority of your Dust to get all the powers, leaving you with a paltry sum to buy a ship and even less Dust to start with as money/a fuel for your powers. When combined with the fact that you have to struggle to master your reality-breaking powers and you have no truly reliable peers to start, it's really more of a challenge run to go ultra-Dust than you may think!
I am also considering pricing it so that you can't go super-Dust. Let me know whether you guys think having all the powers and nothing or being forces to take some of the powers and other stuff is better.

Noted about the Double-Up notification.

Vodyani spend most of their time in service to the Church in some way. Think monks/religious knightly orders. Civilians on Arks spend their free time doing normal stuff, while those in leadership or the military spend practically all of their time devoted to their faith and task.

>>52429348
I hadn't actually considered this, and I'm not sure how to approach it.

>>52429826
Nope, only double up. Doubled up powers are rediculously strong, anyways.
>>52429953
There isn't quite enough substance to the Academy to make it its own CYOA. When it comes down to it, it's really just a companion list full of Dust users.
>>
>>52430998
Hmm. I'll probably double up on Mental Enhancement anyway. Since I plan to be literally bathing in Dust at all times when there's risk/combat, that should be enough processing power to out-think literally anything.
>>
>>52430998
>>52431036
Speaking of, could you put a number on how much Dust it would take to consume that much per fight, and possibly also a number on how much Dust you get per use of Dust Vampirism? Does doubling Dust Vampirism mean you get twice as much Dust per person drained, or do you just get it twice as quickly?

Soul of Alma

Tirra was found as an abandoned babe by a Velvet Veil agent, and was taken in by them as an act of charity. The odd lass was never very talkative, but was a prodigy when it came to alchemical firearms. While she barely participated in the teahouse's entertainment, the older girls found her more suited to more martial work.

Eventually, Tirra joined Desta and Ben in defending caravans. Her knowledge of ambushes and traps helped the trio avoid more than a few perilous situations. Still, she wanted to chase something. She wanted to hunt.

They decided to do just that, and in their travels they came across signs of a strange horned canid creature. A Terror, and one that was as more elusive than any foe they had fought before. The Soul of Alma. They tracked the beast for a month, before cornering it in a trap.

Upon the beast's defeat, it transformed into a Goldstrand woman. One with more than a passing resemblance to Tirra.

>I am also looking for a way to discourage working 10 years first
It doesn't address the deeper problems with your system, but you could do a quick fix by making it a job you work for ten years, not just one. Then human lifespan and impatience come into play. It helps address the conceptual absurdity of the rate of stat growth too.

... I just noticed that I misread Alchemy's requirement as Craft instead of Cast, and now need to fix that. Well, I'll update it later.

Why not? I got the mummy book, I got the mummy immortality, I got the companions that want to set me up as a Pharaoh. What's stopping me?

I'm the second guy. By that I meant 'Don't ignore the first one after work on the second.', not 'You have to finish what you started first!'

I started work on one thing, moved to the next, the next, the next without finishing one of the former. Now nothing's done and I'm back to working on my first. Don't make the same mistake I did. Changing it up is fine, not finishing anything isn't.

Question!

If I take Overpowered and then take Sadistic Yuuka, do I actually have a chance of fighting back and not getting horribly crippled? Or is it a case of "The disadvantage says you get you're ass beat, so you get your ass beat no matter what"?

I both loved and hated that mother fucker. He was entertaining, but at the same time, assuming direct control to talk all kinds of smack only to get his ass handed to him on chitin platter made the whole spooky mecha Cthulhu thing fall right the fuck apart. I really liked Sovereign, but now? I don't know. That whole thing has kind of drifted away from what attracted me to it in the first place.

Harbie's cool though. I'd hang out with him.
>>
>>52433314
He wasn't that dangerous, but he was significantly harder to kill than the normal dudes, to the point where I'd deliberately kill him last, rather than killing him, having him possess another form, killing him again, and so on. It felt like a very well-done mechanic; he wasn't SO threatening that you HAD to kill him immediately, but he was enough stronger that he felt different.
>>
>>52433389
Didn't he just possess another Collector if you killed him first?

>>52433857

I should probably specify that Pherophine doesn't want to/won't need to snu-snu anyone to death while she's in a contract with you. Unless you want to watch her fuck someone to death (?)

Chara doesn't boast any incredible strength, magical power, or speed. No, this Chara has but one thing they are good at.

Being stupidly hard to kill. They have survived fireballs to the face with no damage, being stepped on by a giant, and many attacks from the terrors. All with a smug ass smile on their face. Most give up after they have exhausted their stamina without having hurt them.

(Very loosely based off Frisk's determination only, not taking their speed or incredible charisma into account. Also named them Chara so that it isn't a complete copycat.)
