There's a few things that I see as questionable here; First off, the personality seems to be entirely disparate from the backstory. Lusicus is autistically smart but can't do people, ok, that's due to stats. But it just seems to be that way, no reason given. He's kind and noble and willing to put his life on the line, when... most of the nobles in the setting are dicks? It just doesn't tally.

Secondly, shooting a tome monster in the heart isn't going to do much when it's not a moonshard weapon.

Third, it's a complete jump that tome -> tome merchant. It's supposed to be something pretty new and only now being found out about, not practically common knowledge.

Fourth... trying to solo a huge manifested thing is just going to get splattered. That's frankly suicidal. If he was directing it, maybe, but... trying to tank something with 15 AC is just asking to get actually splattered. Not to mention most monsters don't really want to paste nightwalkers, but rather go for the humans!

GOOD: You've got a big battle going, and something that shows how drastic the situation can get.

BAD: It... just doesn't add up. Lots of things don't tie together well. Mechanically the backstory of defeating a giant monster doesn't make sense the way it's done and doesn't really fit what's known about monsters. And it doesn't show much into why Lusicus is the way he is.

Caster vigilantes are only"good" because they have spells. Cabalist has a mediocre list and features. Warlock has a decent list but its big feature is a joke. Zealot is Inquisitor-lite. Magical child is a discount usummoner.

I'd have Lusicus barging in a commander position rather than dropping him on top of a wall, have the MANLY FISTFIGHT after the wall is partially breached. Perhaps he might have seen it for a chance for glory, or something, but seeing people actually die be a good way to realise that people are something to be protected. Something that makes a bit more sense. As for the tomes, that's something should be looked into directly, rather than having someone "know" that it's due to tome merchants. Luscius researching them would work much more smoothly.

I don't care that a DM pre-selected a slot, there're a million reasons to pre-select a slot and they're all legit. I have a problem with the advertisement that the final selections are on the 1st, how choosing one character means that others can just be thrown out entirely due to schedule or compatibility, and that in context of /pfg/, it centralizes things more around the outside-thread community on Discord or IRC.

If you start a game and you liked a player you played with, then invite them and make it clear what's going be in. HV had old party when it opened up again, whatever.

But here it's like, wow, way to get the worst of both worlds, wasting people's time with your pre-selection but not even having the courtesy to be polite about it. Really reeks of the DM discussing shit with the player for reviews or something.

You know how it goes, it's only railroading if you see the tracks. Nothing should've been confirmed until the final day, and I don't mean just to save the feelings of the other players.

If 4 of the apps turn out to be really good by the last day and they're all compatible with each other but incompatible with Lysander, that's off the table now. People fall into the trap of thinking a backstory is vital.

Most GMs will read, at most, a full paragraph, before skimming the rest. Especially if they have 20+ apps to review. Keep your backstory short, concise, and LESS THAN A SINGLE PARAGRAPH! Any more than that and your app significantly loses its appeal for being too wordy. And don't worry about names and plot hooks. No GM ever includes shit from his player's backstories cause he hasd his own grand vision you need to comply to.

For a fetish app, it's actually pretty decent at capturing the soul of this game, which to me is terrible things happening and then rising over it.
-Actually, now that I view in it that light, that's probably why Sage, Sigmund, Bon Bon and Ceolia quite a bit. That, and having a well defined quirk.

GOOD: Gloriana fits both categories, and has also ticked all the "making sense" fields - included a tome monster with actual strategy and meaning, doesn't actually beat it but only survives, explains her current personality and outlook as a part of her experiences, and adds some NPCs that could easily be picked up on in future.

It doesn't hurt they're based around lewdness, either, and she's the only corruption-free healer it looks like.

BAD: I'd be worried to see precisely how slutty the character would be acting in the party. There's a time and place for lewds, seeing as fade to blacks happen outside of sessions rather than inside them.

Why? I think it kind of makes sense. Like, basically it snags a bunch of soul stuff, killing those people in the process, and stuffs it all into one casing, the host's body, which gets twisted into something weird. While the app's got rid of the dead relatives and even the personality problems about loving hunting monsters too much, I feel the apps hugely improved. It's got the word of Richard's father actually driving him to go and do something, along with another authority figure who wants to just get rid of problems. That's a very good motivation - because someone told Richard to go and do something.

The backstory ties in with his skillset and outlook on life. There's NPCs, both antagonists and allies to use.

Won't go through the whole thing, but frankly though there's no gimmick I like it a lot more. It's more prosaic than before, but this fits great as an entirely straight man app. No overdone grief or tragedy, just "monsters fucked up my dad, I'm going to mess them up." It's good.

As people have asked me on roll20 and discord, the higher the level of the host, the more dangerous the monster. It builds the host up until it feels like it's in danger, then it manifests to give the merchant a chance to reclaim it before it gets destroyed. Manifestations, like any plot event, are pretty fucking boring if it's just an ambush. There's suppose to be conflict, drama, a fundamental reason that the host had to turn to something he didn't understand and was too much for them, and the price for that is the manifestation that inevitably gets people killed.

I'm looking for pretty straight forward story elements
