As a Space Marine player not interested in going outside my army, what can I do to handle a list of Magnus, 3 Daemon Princes, a Tzeentch Herald on a disc with the grimoire, a unit of horrors, and a unit of screamers? The Princes are from the CSM book and the daemons are from the Daemon book, so apparently he can use an allied detachment like that.

So what's everyone working on? Any new projects? Had any cool games recently or have some planned?

Been building up these dudes while listening to Ultra Live 2017 all evening. Should probably magnetize those hands and pin the feet but I really can't be arsed to anymore tonight.

>>
So with the new edition confirmed and coming out soon-ish does that mean it's confirmed that there won't be any other "triumverates"?

Basically I'm wondering if GW is telling everyone but Eldar and Imperium players to get fucked.
>>
>>52353698
My Thousand Sons even if I'm shitty and won't do the models any justice, and then in terms of painting I'll finish up the rest of my start collecting Tzeentch models, Magnus, and a few leftover necrons I have.

>>
>>52353913

>>
>>52354004
Because I get bitched at on here for priming in black. Now I get shit for priming in white.
The white will give more vivid colors in the end and it's easier to see what I "missed".

Although I do sort of regret not doing the gold first.
>>
>>52353938
Why not white marble instead
>>
>>52354047
It'd really up to you what you prime with, I've just had a pain not priming gold with rubric marines.

All that matters in the end is how easy it was to paint and how you feel about the end result.

I don't physically own enough tanks for A, I never saw B as any good, C isn't interesting to me because White Scars have no character other than "The Bike Legion", and D isn't interesting because Iron Hands have even less character than that.
>>
>>52353698
I'm still working on my Imperial Fist Sternguard, but I impulse bought two boxes of Rubric Marines and an Exalted Sorcerer with leftover money from my paycheck. At least I finished building my Heldrake for my warband, though I'm unsure which colors to paint it, Alpha Legion or Word Bearers.

Unsure of something, any help would be appreciated.

Q: Is a baleflamer considered to be a flamer weapon?
A: No.

Haven't played 40k in a while, what is the significance of this? Is it for stuff like attacking the Eldar Avatar, and/or does it mean the Baleflamer doesn't ignore cover anymore?
>>
>>52354419
Also might not be a bad option. They'd probably be fine at heavy 3. They're already a pair of twin-linked autocannons effectively.
>>
>>52354427
no it just means that salamanders don't have a bonus against it
>>
>>52354419
Nerfing missilesides wouldn't make people take the railrifle. They'd just take something else instead.

>>52354427
Only matters for special rules that care about flamers, it's still a template weapon and so ignores cover.
>>
>>52354427
It's only for rules that specifically deal with flamer weapons like for Salamanders.

I really wish that GW would show some brain next edition and clearly put a "Flamer", "Melta", "Plasma" and "Las" tag on weapons. It would save them so many FAQ questions and they wouldn't have to always put that "As defined by the rules" quote in.

If it's only 300 points, then that sounds quite worthwhile. If your opponent has 2 decently kitted-out psykers, they've basically paid for themselves. Even if they hide in the corners, most psychic powers won't have enough reach to do much from there, and then you can just advance further if need be.

They can also get flamers right? Even outside of the anti-psyker bubble, 300 points is actually pretty good for that many special weapon teams in transports.

There is still arguing wether the Plasma weapons the AdMech uses count for the Haemothrope (or whatever) Reactor, which is basically a fuckhuge AdMech symbol in design, are eligible for its Plasma buff because its rule states "Plasma Weapons (as defined in Warhammer 40k: the Rules)" and that only has Plasma Guns, Cannons and Pistols.

A coherent and consistent weapon typing system to just tag onto a gun would save all of those discussions.
>>
>>52354722
>I dunno, which is easier?
First since the rulebook also provides you information about other weapon which you and your opponent armies using
>>

Right, because they definitely listed every single weapon in the main rulebook? Not just a handful of imperial ones and other random shit? And kept it up to date with every release afterwards?

It makes far more stuff to just print 'Flamer' next to everything that's supposed to be a flamer, and then instead of having a short list of flamers in the main rulebook, you just have the 'Flamer' quality which interacts with certain special rules.

The core rules don't list Plasma Cavaliers and Heavy Plasma Cannons. Because of that, if you go RAW and dont take the FAQ for that Inquisition wargear into account, the AdMech would not be allowed to benefit from their own building.

Yes, during the Psychic phase. If there are Psykers you can throw S2 Psyk out Grenades. Close combat is awesome though.
>>
>>52354832
I'd personally take Cawl over Celestine. He's better for pure tanking and deals more damage. Celestine has the speed advantage and potential respawn, if that ever is necessary, but your force will probably be slow anyway.

Unless you plan to put everything into reserves and then deep strike all these golden boys. Then yes, it's definitely a fun army and I'd love to play it.

I have never wanted to beat someone so badly in a game before...I really hope when the time comes that it's an absolute ass stomp.

Also how does an 1850 greyknights army get 18 warp charges? that number seems a bit high to me.
>>
Why is it that the Adeptus Mechanicus never seems to use Melta weapons when every other imperial army uses them in one way or another?

They obviously have some equivalents, like the Neutron Laser, and have Arc weapons against vehicles, but it makes no sense from a fluff perspective that the suppliers of the entire imperial armory would not use one of the most reliable and potentially weapon systems in the entire galaxy that even xenos use. The only Melta gun I recall ever seeing in AdMech use is Cawl's sun laser thing, and that one is a unique relic and his creation.
>>
>>52354981
To be fair, they also don't use Transports at all. Or any sort of tanks really.
>>
>>52354700
Yeah. Any time during the psychic phase. Warp Charge specifically says it happens at the beginning though, so you do that first, but anytime you could manifest a power you can instead choose to shoot with the Animus. So it could be before or after or between using any other powers.
>>

What is it with anons breaking their armies these days? Just had that poor Ork guy whose shelf fell down a few threads back and now you.

As for the GK: don't have their units in memory but if only the cheapest stuff is taken and it's a high die roll, I could imagine 18 charges being possible.
>>
>>52354981
they seem to like staying out of melee, and melta guns keep them in close range, so I guess that might be a reason?

So, I'm looking to run a heavy support formation for my Black Templars and I'm curious what would be most point cost effective and "fun".

3x Vindcators (@360pts)
3x Thunderfire Cannons (@300pts)
3x Whirlwinds (@195pts + 45pt Land Speeder)
3x Venerable Dreadnoughts w/ TL Autocans (@390pts)
Land Raider Spearhead (@740pts)

I'm running a fairly typical BT army (Crusader squads, Rhinos, LRC) and I'm playing casual with friends at 1500-1850. I'm personally leaning on three Land Raiders, only because I've never seen anyone running three.
>>

>>
>>52355004
They do still use their train transports they have in 30k from time to time and the codex also just says that 'most of the time they walk, not all the time. Also make extensive use of drop ships.

>>52355023
They do still have dedicated melee units, specifically Dragoons and the Sicarians. It seems weird that they would think about giving the Dragoon rider a pistol or sticking some Autocannons onto its frame but not to glue a Meltagun on it. A Sicarian unit having 1 Meltagun with them also sounds like a good idea, since the Infiltrators are usually the first to be in Melta range and Shred a vehicle to death.

Just seems like such an oversight to not have them use it at all.
>>
>>52355058
Well, if you already have Landraiders for your Templars, you might not need more.

I would go for Vindicators, since S 10 blasts will help with enemy vehicles that your force might have trouble with. The Venerable dreads might be more fluffy and fun though, and Autocannons will be helpful as well.

I was arguing that barring those very few formations and unit combinations a vast majority of Space Marine units are incredibly underperforming.
When you have a total of 54 different units and a whopping 8 are used outside of busted formations or for tax purposes, you have a fucking problem, especially when you have over 30 different formations and detachments and only a very minor group of those is viable.

How can you idiots not get the simple concept that having to shoehorn units into a set of very specific configurations in order to make them good does not equate to actual good units?

I just got into the hobby after years of talking to my buddy about it. Started learning to paint on some spare boyz he had.

I'm really loving the themes behind Nurgle Marines and Daemons. Are there rules for Nurgle that aren't like specific to the Death Guard? And if so what books should I be getting?
>>
>>52355626
The rules for Death Guard are basically the only special way to run Nurgle Marines, though they're really nice rules. You could easily come up with fluff for your own warband and still use the rules though.
>>
>>52355574
Look like 40mm to me.
>>
>>52355626
What about just running the daemons? Unclean One, beast, nurglings, zombies, etc?
>>
>>52355671
The scissors in the shot make me question that. I'd need something else present to give me a sense of scale better. Otherwise using those I'd think those are standard infantry bases.
>>
>>52355626
Keep in mind that although the Death Guard rules are technically there to represent the old 14th legion no one will complain if you use them to represent your own Nurgle aligned force. The are both really good, and really thematic, so you should use them. The books you'll need are Codex Chaos Daemons for Nurgle Daemons, Codex Chaos Space Marines, and Traitor Legions. I'd hold off though since we don't know how the new edition of the game, rumored for June, will effect the use of older books.
>>

>>52355686

>>
>>52355626
What >>52355740 said. Also, Nurgle marines are getting what seems to be an update with new models pretty soon, so you may really want to wait and see there.
>>
>>52355773
Yeah thats what got me into wanting to start with this. But in the meantime I like the concept of a generic Nurgle force better than a traitor legion. I dunno maybe too many RPG's in my life, but I like the idea of making something more fresh and my own than controlling something with its own established lore if that makes any sense. I saw that the GW site has what appears to be Khorne forces that play without marines so I was hoping to do the same with a Nurgle force.
>>
>>52355807
I get the feeling that those Khorne forces were from Age of Sigmar, which is essentially a fantasy game.

Your options for a non-marine Nurgle force would basically boil down to using the rules for Renegades and Heretics from forgeworld and running a sort of Traitor Imperial Guard army full of cultists. Not the sort of thing I would recommend to someone just starting though.

Either way, the idea of making up your own Nurgle army is totally what this game is about, and you could potentially mix together Nurgle marines, cultists, and Daemons, and come up with your own fluff for a force however you want.
>>
>>52355807
There isn't "Nurgle Daemonkin" like for Khorne yet. But yes, you can play pure Nurgle Daemons if you like. You'll just need the Daemons codex. Grab the Age of Sigmer Nurgle box to get you started. They use the same models in 40k.

both are over costed and overly elite, but they each have benefits. Tempestus get a crap ton of USRs stock. Deathwatch vets can be kind of scary if you resist the urge to buy them fifty billion points of wargear, but at the end of the day they are still just premium priced space marines.
>>
1. Do models that wield template weapons carry a side-arm, for example a Space Marine armed with a Flamethrower can shoot an enemy model that is out of range of his Flamethrower with a Bolt Pistol?
2. And is it true that a unit that killed an enemy unit in the shooting phase can't assault any nearby enemy units?

>>52356347
1. It depends on what the model is equipped with. Most often, things that can take special weapons do so by replacing their main gun. If they have a second gun or grenades? They get to choose what to fire.

2. You can only assault something you shot at, barring transports that you blow up since you can charge the passengers after. Split Fire is a surprisingly nice rule for assault units for that reason.

While that's funny, I'm glad the damage was minimal other than the army getting rekt.
The funny thing is that I was looking at the army the other day thinking about how I should take them off their bases so I could rebase them. Guess Slaanesh approved my wish but Khorne wanted to put in his opinion.

Yea. If be afraid they wouldn't be able to get into position fast enough. Like, one with FnP and one with Infiltrate is nice, and then I would probably have to take a Sabateur for vehicles, though everyone being S4 means I can glance rear armor. However, Ap2 means I can explode on a 5/6 with a Sabateur, which is hilarious.

Either way, 10 3+ fearless fear causing Ld10 models with I5 and 2 attacks base seem pretty solid in KT outside of shit like Kroot tide. Bolters are prpbabky. The best way to go, though because I can either force the ranged wounds or charge the dangerous weapons and hopefully have the attack advantage, even with S3.

Broadsides were historically able to buy the ability to walk and shoot until 6th edition, Tau are very big on mobility and whilst they're forced by practicality to make some gun platforms that don't outright fly, having a walking heavy fire platform that strides to stay relevant is entirely their style.

If a rail rife is rapid fire a heavy one shouldn't really be single shot, and a heavy rail rifle and plasma rifle broadside that advances, getting more dangerous as it closes is very fluffy.

Trick question, there really isn't any, you're better taking an Auspex and marking targets for your heavy weapons or bikes.

But you have two shooting relic options with Assault so that would be the closest along with combi-melta. Haven't checked out the relics you get for taking Celestine yet, maybe there's something good there.

Solid but you have to remember they're T4 and 3+ so don't try giving everyone a special weapon unless you play in a specific meta. Focus on the special ammo - if you deep strike enough small teams you can actually wipe out the opponents important units and then survive the rest of the battle but if your dice screw you over you're fucked.

>>
>>52359139
I wouldn't be so sure, Guilliman has already broadcasted his intent to turn the Imperium to a pure military state, learning be damned, the Tau can't really offer anything in this regard except a ceasefire treaty so the Imperium can dedicate more resources to its ends.

Speaking of which, I wonder if half the AdMech is going to flip their shit over Guilliman's decree, which goes completely against the Quest for Knowledge (this is providing they even listen to him entirely in the first place, but c'mon, this is the AdMech, the same guys who couldn't follow the Emperor's orders without questioning.)

Well, they are Japs so they can be pretty handy in fight against Chaos. Also Crons are to treacherous to help against Nids invasion so maybe Tau will take this role
>>
>>52359191
The issue there is how do you get them to fight against Chaos? They can't go outside their own Empire without taking years or even decades to get anywhere, right now they're most useful where they are, acting as a buffer between the Imperium and some of the Tyranid splinter fleets.

A Seeker Chariot will remove its own points cost from a single HoW attack. On the other hand, its AV10/2HP against shooting and T3/1W in CC. It costs as much as a Terminator, so spam them MSU.

Exalted and Hellflayer are too expensive in comparison. The Exalted does nothing you cannot do with 2 Seekers taped together, and the Hellflayer pays way too much for 2-3 S3 attacks.

Calvacade formation is nothing but buffs and dirt cheap when taking minimum squadrons.

Wonder if they'll Sigmarize the rules enough so that both games can play against one another.
>>
>>52359655
I don't think so. 40k is to important for GW to make this kind of revolution. Yeah, rules will be simplified to bring more new players and their money but they want to keep as many old players as possible too. That's probably too much plastic. Mortarion is going to be bigger than RG, BC, the avatar or the saint. Typhus is bigger than a normal terminator. At most you'd get a space-marine size character on top of that.

Also, it seems that they aren't that keen on replacing existing models with triumvirate ones. Only Celestine and Cypher had models before and they were pretty obscure characters which few people owned. It seems like the main market for death guard special characters (i.e. death guard players who like special characters) are likely to own him already.

>As most of you will no doubt know, Warscroll Builder has been a great resource for Warhammer Age of Sigmar players ever since the game was launched. Tens of thousands of hobbyists have been using the free site to write army lists and inform their collections. The web designer and owner of Warscroll Builder, Tony Pacheco, is an avid painter and gamer, and a huge Warhammer enthusiast. He’s also a really nice guy and great member of the Warhammer community.

>So we felt that the right thing to do would be to support Tony and help bring Warscroll Builder to even more hobbyists. There's a reason they moved away from it in 40k.You had essentially the same special rule in eight places, working differently and each causing different odd rule interactions with every other rule it brushed up against.
