Painting faces is overrated for tabletop.

Base + wash + highlight is more than adequate.
>>
>>51719200
You added a wash. But you also painted over it and into the crevices which makes it moot.either that or you're making all your models look super flat through some photo voodoo. Either way the defensiveness of your posts seem unwarranted since you're asking for feedback.

the pot in the top right corner is about 50/50 seraphim sepia and lahmian medium. I used it to paint two layers of wash on the skin (hands and face). Its not a heavy wash because I want the skin to be pale.

the pots in the back of the shot are all the paints and washes on the mini (not including the base) nine in total.

I never said I was trying to win a painting contest. I was mostly getting some opinions on the color combinations before I painted the other 29 the same way.

try not to be outrageous dick holes when people paint minis and post pics.

The pics people post are one of the best things about this place, don't fuck that up.

I have 3 Warhawks from my Fantasy days, and I notice me that they can be taken solo now. Would I be better off running them in a full squad of 3 or as separate entities?
>>
>>51719611
I don't get why you thin seraphim sepia. It's a very light wash to begin with.

The point of washing skin is to add the contrast so people can see what you've done from an arm's length or more away, and since people can't tell from a relatively close up photo i think the washing has gone wrong.

And it goes both ways, people telling you to apply a wash to the face is not dickish behaviour, your answers, however, are.

Try to change yourself before you demand change in others.
>>
>>51719611
>nine in total

actually ten, counted wrong, my mistake.
>>
>>51719654
>I don't get why you thin seraphim sepia. It's a very light wash to begin with.

because if you use full strength seraphim sepia on pallid wych flesh it comes out very much darker than I want for a final color. It's deliberate.

>>51719254
>all your models look super flat through some photo voodoo

thin your paints for similar results. I also advise multiple thin coats so you don't obscure the details of the mini.
>>
>>51719736
You can have multiple thin coats without it looking flat, my friend. But whatever floats your boat, as long as it's intentional you don't need to act so defensive when people call it out for looking flatter than an ironingboard.

>>

>flatter than an ironingboard

thing is, friend (if I can borrow your word), if I was to add more highlights the time per model would be nearly doubled. Did I mention that I have 30 of these to get through? Its a cost benefit analysis thing and Ill take a little flatness (the sort that isn't noticeable from more than 1 foot away) since clean lines and smooth paints are what make 90% of the difference anyways.

either way thanks for the feedback, I am always looking to improve. Maybe next time I paint a hero or something to a high standard Ill drop a pic for you to pick apart from your armchair.
>>
>>51719266

>because if you use full strength seraphim sepia on pallid wych flesh it comes out very much darker than I want for a final color. It's deliberate.
A wash isn't the last step. Wash, then highlight.
>>
>>51719974
I wouldn't say calling it flat is picking your models apart. Saying the fingertips on the repeater crossbow aren't fully coated, however is. But as I said to each their own.
>>
>>51719997

dude, look at the pic here >>51719611

the pot in the top right corner is about 50/50 seraphim sepia and lahmian medium. I used it to paint two layers of wash on the skin (hands and face). Its not a heavy wash because I want the skin to be pale.

fucks sake I think I may have really triggered some people tonight with this mini. The hatred is palatable.
>>
>>51720052
:/ I think you have a pretty neat mini. I do agree that some shade is needed for the fingers, and personally I'd just water down a darker paint and use that instead of an ink (I don't really like washes unless it's on metallics).

I like it. Keep it up!

I have few questions regarding Sylvaneth Wyldwoods. I'd like to avoid GW's hilariously priced $88 plastic trees, but I don't know the dimensions.

How big should I make the base of one set of woods? What should I make it out of, cardboard? Styrofoam?

I'm probably going to use various aquarium plants for the actual trees themselves. Is there anything I should do to them like paint the stalk brown or something?

Fulminators or concussors? Fulminators + Heraldors can wreck face pretty easily, but concussors seem to be far more stable in their damage output?
>>
>>51720536
Concussor is really good if you have any kind of +hit buff and if you charge at the right angle you can deny an enemy pile in. On the charge you attack with Concussors first and take minimal damage back. On the enemy turn if they don't strike against the Concussors first they probably won't get to pile in -again- which means they will likely waste attacks there first, but with a 3+ save (reroll1) and 5 wounds per model they can take quite a beating.

It's a great tactical unit, puts your opponent into a "no good choice" scenario.

Fulminators are great on the charge but they are not consistently good because they won't get much value if your opponent gets a double turn, or if you get charged first.

I usually run Concussors or Tempestors.
>>
>>51720571
So lemme get this straight, if your concussors charge and dealt 1+ mortal wounds, and after your attack the enemy attacks back, they can't pile in, so they only have minimal number of attacks based on base contact right? This would mean it'll be highly useful vs. hordes, but of limited use vs. elites and behemoths?
>>
>>51720606
Correct

It's actually quite good against elite units because if you charge them on the flank they won't be able to get in range because they usually have big models/bases

It's not very useful against monsters/behemoths but it still does mortal wounds which is always good.
>>
>>51720628
Sold. Gonna build 4 concussors instead of fulminators then for my 1.5k. Bye bye heraldor.
>>
>>51720647
Build both!

If you magnetize properly you can swap the arms on your dracoths to use 3 of the 4 kinds of weapons

The box comes with separate arms for spears, axe/hammer, and crossbow.

I can post a photo of what I did tomorrow, if you want to wait until then
>>
>>51720665
Nah I get what you mean. Yep, gonna magnetise them, just building my army list right now before I get the models.
>>

You're also forgetting about the campaign. Silver tower had, when combining both books, around 80 pages of stuff. Meanwhile, SOH has around 25 more pages of content all while having a GM so the behavior pages may not be needed. There's also less variety so there's the possibility that they have 30-35 pages dedicated to campaigns and doing a proper WHQ game.
>>
>>51719618
It depends on the game you play I would say. If the other guy has no fliers, you could use them as single fast objective grabbers, and as one unit in games where you need a more solid harassing unit, works for taking out war machine crews and weak heroes.
>>
2000 point fluffy brets:

Freeguild general on Griffon 300
Trebuchet 220
Luminark 240
16 archers 200
16 men at arms 120
16 knights 440
3 pegasus knights 200
16 men at arms 120
Paladin 80
Paladin banner bearer 80

Would this be any good? The general is good for +hit rolls for free peoples and a killy powerhouse in his own right. The knight blob will make use of the horse pally to secure charges, while the foot pally buffs the peasantry. The Luminark is pure fluff, as the army is based in Hysh, and if I'm lucky it'll get off a good spell once in a while and maybe splat some heroes or weakening crucial units with its beam.

Do i have to remind you on what site you are posting right now?
You aren't posting on your facebook page where all your friends go on sucking your dick over the sloppiest of paintings to not hurt your feelings, you're on an anonymous mongolian basket weaving board where if you ask for feedback you'll recieve proper feedback.

Now the wash you used is too light, there's no depth. If you want to keep a pale skin tone apply a proper wash and then highlight with the basecoat or use a lighter basecoat, be sure to not paint the recesses.
Also the other colors seem pretty flat, i would add at least an highlight to everything on the model, a wash and 2 highlights would be much better but if you're lazy just highlight once.

>If you're so stubborn on not wanting to improve, to spend more time highlighting or applying a proper wash to your models don't come here asking for feedback

I actually posted a pic of that mini for two reasons, one that I stated, one that I didn't. The reason I stated I wanted feedback was on the color scheme for the test mini I had painted before moving onto apply that color scheme to the rest of the other 29 if them. 30 minis is a lot and I am not about to go painting them all to some kind of extreme high standard. I get it that a lot of people will spend days, weeks even months painting one mini, pouring their hearts and souls into them to make them amazing, that is not a quality standard I was aiming for and shouldn't be held to for this project.

the other reason that I initially posted the pic of the mini was to give something back in terms of content to this community. It is good for this page when people post painting project pics. I enjoy seeing them, and I know everyone else does to. So I wanted to provide something positive for people who read this page.

tin foil hat time: people are jealous assholes who cant read and most of you don't play the game or paint and enjoy being arm chair critic assholes

that said I will keep contributing painting pics and feedback where I want when I want on subjects that come up here that interest me when I have time.

I particularly enjoy arguments about points balance, rules interpretation, list building, anything to do with elves, and making fun of stormcast for IMHO being stupid in both aesthetic and fluff terms.

Both, cuncussors "no pile in" rule is absolutely brutal but fulminators charge (and even more important, their shooting) is better.

Either is great, pick which one you like the look of more. Cuncussors are better in a vacuum, fulminators tend to perform better with buffs.

Vanguard-Palladors.
Each model either carries a axe or a javelin and all of them parry pistols. The Prime also carries a Lunar Blade in addition to the other weapons.

Aetherstrike:
Beak and Claws to-wound rolls of a 6 cause a mortal wound instead of normal damage.

Lunar Blade:
Pick a unit within 1" of the Prime and roll a die. On a 2+ that unit suffers a mortal wound.

Ride the Aetherwinds:
Pick a direction instead of moving and roll 6d6. The unit can move up to that distance in that direction as if it could fly. Must end that move at least 3" from enemy models. Can't run or charge afterwards (but can shoot).
>>

>Raptors with Longstrike Crossbow
Prime gets a Aetherwing.

Longstrike:
+6" range on the crossbow when not moving.

Headshot:
Longstrike Crossbow to-hit rolls of a 6 cause two mortal wounds instead of normal damage.

Warning Cry:
When an enemy unit end its charge within 1" of a unit of Raptors with Aetherwing, roll a d6 for each model in the unit. For each 6 the enemy unit suffers two mortal wounds.

>Raptors with Hurricane Crossbows
Prime hits on 3+.

Rapid Fire:
Add 3 to the Attack value of the Hurricane Crossbow if this unit didn't move.

Suppressive Fire:
If an entire unit of Raptors dedicates its fire against one enemy unit, that unit must substract 2" from all charge rolls made until your next hero phase.

You already know the Vanguard Hunters.

>Aetherwings
Fly.

Flying Hunters:
May retreat and charge during the same turn.

Attentive Wardens:
At the beginning of the charge phase any friendly unit of Aetherwings within 12" of a unit of Raptors may move 2d6". They may retreat with that move, but they can't run and they can't end up further than 12" away from that unit of Raptors.

(Please note that each of those tiny birds has 2 wounds and fights as hard as a liberator.)

Same as the Vanguard Palladors.

Command Ability: Lord of the Azyrite Whirlwind
Pick a unit ov Vanguard-Hunters, Vanguard-Raptors, Vanguard-Palladors or Aetherwings within 24" of this model and remove both that unit and this model from the table. During your next movement phase you can bring them into play by the rules of Astral Compass.

Scions of the Storm you already know. Deep Strike on a 3+, basically.

Command Traits:
>Warded by Faith
Roll a d6 for each mortal wound the general suffers. On a 5+, ignore it. (always useful)

>Perfect Commander:
Pick another hero in your army. That hero can use his command ability as if it was your general. (this one will be fun)

>Wise Strategist
Dick d3 units after deployment. Those units can move 5" in any direction. (Okay, but doesn't scale well.)

>Tireless Crusader
General can reroll charges (infinitly inferior to Reckless)

>Unbowed Defender
General and all units within 6" may add +1 to all save rolls they make as long as they didn't charge this turn. Does not stack with the cover bonus. (...yeah, I had to reread that as well.)

Math is always an useful tool to evaluate performance. People usually tell the mathfaggot to shut up when he evaluate performance only on math while ignoring everything else.

Just by looking at them I can say they have a bigger damage output than Skyfires, but Skyfires are cheaper and have a 16" mobility, while the raptors must stay still. While it's useful how much they are more damaging if someone just said they are 100% better than skyfires just because of that then yes, it will merit a "shut up faggo".

Weapons:
>End of Spite
Add +1 to the Attacks of one melee weapon. Add +2 Attacks instead if used against Chaos.

>Blade of Heroes
Pick a melee weapon. Reroll failed to thit rolls against Heroes and Monsters with that weapon.

>Hammer of Might.

>Fang of Dracothion
Pick a melee weapon. Reroll rolls to wound of 1s.

Pick a melee weapon. Improve that weapon's Rend by 1.

>Gift of the Six Smiths
Pick a melee weapon. Per turn you can reroll one single roll to hit, to wound or to determine damage with that weapon.

Ranged Attacks against the hero suffer a -2 to hit rolls.

Hero can unbind a single spell as if it was a wizard.

Flying units must reroll successful attacks against this hero.

Artifacts:
>Stamina Talisman
+1Wound

>Obsidian Amulet

Once per game you can pick the result for a hit, wound, damage or save roll for this model.

You are so precious.

Raptors do an average of 1 mortal wound and 2,666 wounds with a -2 rend.

That means that they do:

3,666 wounds against -, 6+ or 5+ save
3,222 wounds against 4+ save
2.777 wounds against a 3+ save
2,333 wounds against a 2+ save

Basically 2 units of them can reliably take down any 5 wounds hero in a round.

From which we can see that the new raptors are inferior in damage output than Kurnoths against low armored targets but higher than everything else against high armored targets with the exception of against 2+ armor compared to Skyfires with shaman support.

They aren't the most efficent unit against enything, but still their damage output guarantee a reliable killing of any 5 wounds hero with only 2 units and without support.

Yeah, the javelin is decent enough in melee with -1rend and 2"range and adds a lot of oomph with a surprisingly large range when hurled. And with Riding the Aetherwinds preventing charges anyway you'd want to maximise your shooting.
To be honest, I didn't expect them to have 5 wounds, either.

The axe seems like a really shitty choice (though it looks gorgeous) for a unit that can do a ~21" Fly move and then shoot someone a whole bunch.

It is this ones humble opinion that they should at least update the factions that really need it before they give Stormcast more shiny new stuff. Especially considering they already have good tactical flexibility.

Here's where they are at
>>
So, some thoughts on these new units as a SC player.
Palladors seem decent at everything, but don't really stand out much beyond their movement trick.
Hunters we discussed to death. 140 is high-ish, but not totally unreasonable. I'd have preferred 120.
Lord-Aquilor...yeah, no idea. His command ability adds mobility to units that either don't need it or that don't want it, it seems. It's probably good to have, but when compared to a gargantuan fearless bubble or a still large +1 to hit bubble it seems unimpressive. He'd make a great troubleshooter though, I suspect.
Longstrike Raptors are shorter-ranged than expected. But they seem to allow for powerful spot removal if set up in an elevated position.
Hurricane Raptors on the other hand seem like the perfect teleport unit. Drop down, pump out a shitload of damage, then hope for the best.
Aetherwings are a cheap roadblock to keep near Raptors to throw under the bus and bodyblock a charge. Not much beyond that. Fairly cool.
What are you guys' opinions so far?

The Aquilor has a shitload of attacks and a very nice deployment option. Also he can teleport Raptors. I can see one of them and a unit of raptors work as troubleshooters in the enemy flanks and rear, even better with Perfect Commander so your actual general is something else.
>>
>>51730551

>>51730797

>>
>>51730796
The nice thing about StD (pun intended) is with their marks, you have some flexibility with the Nurgle Rotbringers and Khorne Bloodbound. Meaning anything in StD that can take a mark, and does, will get the benefits of the other factions.

Example is if your StD models all take the Nurgle keyword, you can take putrid blightkings as battleline, as well as just taking some other rotbringers units because all that's important is your army has the Nurgle and Mortal keywords. Same for Khorne and mighty skullcrushers.

It's not much but just provides some rewards for having your entire army stick to a theme.
>>
>>51730712
Presumably not in the near future.
>>
>>51730881
Nurgle interests me... Would getting the slaves to darkness starter box and making them all nurgle be a good start? And then get some Putrid Blightknights?
>>
>>51730504

I actually don't have any eternals, but my LGS has a box. I was probably going to turn them into rangers, though. I guess I just automatically ignore eternals because of my fantasy days.
>>
>>51730872

>>
>>51730741
I can see consummate commander and staunch defender becoming the new default command trait. Commander is very good with a Celestant to act as a caddy or with an aquilor to use as an hero killer. And staunch defender is just very good.

The Veritant and the Relictor are going to become much more used, as the prayers are very useful and have lots of applications.

A nice trick I can see is that the trait of gryph charger that give the lord reroll to hit and wound against a hero it's on set up, so if you use his command ability you can choose another target.

I'll get one, but I think I'll rely on Ride the Aetherwinds and Astral Compass for mobility. While Consumate Commander looks great, my eyes keep drifting towards that Staunch Defender...
>>
>>51730952
Very new, very powerful.
>>
>>51730999
part of why I was thinking undivided, was because I could see some of the new SC stuf as a way to make tzeentchy versions of other chaos monsters, both kinds of demi-gryph make me think of a tzeentch flavored juggernaut, and Griff hounds to flesh hounds, which them made me imagine other conversions like seekers with birb heads to look like evil chobobos etc.
>>
So is AoS balanced or is there still top tier and shit tier armies
>>
>>51730971
>>51730979
Yeah, Consumate Commander and Staunch Defender are for sure the standouts, matching or exceeding even my beloved Reckless.
Another nice combo, assuming you're willing to invest into it, is a Lord-Celestant on Stardrake with Staunch Defender, Mirror Shield and Thunderlord.
A rerollabale 2+ save and -2 to hit at range means anything not spewing mortal wounds can go eat shit, while it's own 24" range and movement means it'll never be engaged in melee.
>>
>>51730910
I would say so. Whats so great about the blightkings kit is you get so so many extra nurgly bits with it. So buy the blightkings first, build them, then buy the StD box and build them all up, incorporating as many of the extra blightkings bits as you can to make your models look unique and nurgley. Kitbashing is a lot of fun with this hobby.
>>
>>51731093

At this point im up for anything. To me the most promising hope would be at the midway point between where 40k is now and AoS. If they go full AoS, though, I really wouldnt mind, because there's a lot of brilliance in AoS' simplicity most people don't see.
>>
>>51731068
It's a neat idea, I guess, but the game is not very fond of mixed armies like that. I mean, you can of course field them, but it will be inferior to other armies by quite a lot, especially to those that have a newer battletome (like Tzeentch does).
Undivided doesn't really work outside some edge cases, to be honest.
>>
>>51731186
same I just hope they don't full on nuke the setting
>>
>>51731178
Sure. If the brayherd player is smart and built a list for it. Keep in mind too, the GHB battleplans are objective based, and a lot of them favor high model counts. So there's one advantage beastmen would have over ironjaws.

The thing is, wich standardised to-hit and to-wound, and no real invulnerability (like imperial knights vs guardsmen) everything has a chance of wounding and possibly killing everything. It balances the game out somewhat.
>>
>>51731191
I guess I'd have to find other things to use them as and just play it for visual flavor
>>
>>51731204
I seriously doubt they will. But if they do, I'm willing to give it a shot. The new AoS setting is very jarring at first, but once you got to get really into it, you saw it comes out on its own and is actually pretty kickass.

Because the boxes now contain 10 Liberators instead of 5. Same with Judicators. Also, Prosectors are now boxes of six.

It's a subtle price drop.
>>
>>51732413
To be honest they look kinda meh at this point. They're 140 for 5. While cheaper than 5 judicators, judis have better shooting.

But their real value is being able to come in on any table edge. However with the SCE battle trait of the entire army pretty much having deep strike, you would much rather have something land behind there with better shooting or melee.

So unless there's some pretty kickass battalions with them, I don't see myself clamoring for one of the kits.

GW can't just outright drop the prices of their shit for fear of upsetting investors, which is frankly understandable. So instead they are just providing better values and deals. Deals like the box games, start collectings, and reboxings including more models.

They can deep strike now?
>>
>>51733113

Yeah they removed all the different deep strike methods and replaced them with scions of the storm, the new stormcast allegiance ability

Basically it's the same as lightning strike (set up anywhere outside 9" of the enemy) but it triggers on a 3+ at the beginning of your turn instead of automatically.

So it's a bit worse but on the other hand it's free and works for any and all stormcast units at all times.

It's the SCE battle trait described in the upcoming battletome.

Christ. Hopefully Skyborn slayers isn't changed to be like that, but I won't mind really if it is.
>>

That saying, however, it's fucking amazing. I can deep strike any unit without formations, now that's amazing.

They fucking crumble
> seen it first hand a tournament
> can't do damage, bad saves, terrible bravery

Fuck my life. Now I have to make a hard decision between vanguard and extremis chambers in terms of the budget I have. Those cavalry seems good...

Think they'll ever make nurgle daemons viable?
>>
>>51733756
What are you talking about?

They've won major tournaments on a backbone of literally 2 SC! and 2 GUO.
>>
>>51733692
Guess it depends on how much the chocobos are going to cost. Dracoths are $65 USD for two. Betting the chocobos are going to at least come in kits of 3, so that alone will make them cheaper.
>>
>>51733756
anon, nurgle daemons have ALWAYS been viable
>>
>>51733692

You can genuinely get away with only 4 dracothians, any more than that is skew (which is fine but just know what you're getting yourself into)

Running some dracs and gryphchargers together seems plenty viable

must also look nice on the table, a handy blend of fur, feather and scale

New thread

Yeah I'm aiming to get 4 dracothian (2 boxes) and a stardrake for starters. Now I will need to wait until the release of the battletome to properly assess what I can do with the new chocobo knights.

I posted a list at the top of the last thread and got laughed at. Is it doing nurgle injustice?
