Or something like the Malcador, where the "turret" has a more limited traverse, since it's effectively a casemate. Secutarii are a new branch of the Taghmata army list. Can never have automata in the detachement; big focus on infantry and transports.
Secutarii Psiloi, fast attack.
Secutarii Hetairoi, elite.
Secutarii Hypaspists, elite.
Secutarii Heleposis, open topped transport (20 capacity).

Cybernetica has new options.
Vidrios Caster Array, upgrade for Cybernetica HQs that allows counting as psyker.
Psy-Conduit upgrade, models gain FNP/FNP++ if a psyker is within 24"
Zetiark, female archmagos who developed with the Thousand Sons the crystalline circuits needed to control automata.

Thousand Sons
Sekhmet Terminators, elites that must pick a singular cult that radically alters their behaviour and/or statline.
Seshat Veterans, infiltrators tasked with securing artifacts and assassination from behind enemy lines.
Cataphraktos Psy-Automata, troops that a psyker within 24" must harness a WC to activate them until next turn.

Space Wolves
Hirdmen Veterans, fast attack with optional jump pack, combat shields and tons of melta/plasma weapons.
Wolf Guard Terminators, elites with two-handed great weapons or sword & board in the style of firedrakes.

I'm all for unconventional thinking, but with some effort. I'll defend the idea of fielding MkVII dudes, as long as you walk the walk and actually make them proper Siege of Terra era dudes. Not just take Dark Vengeance tacticals and call it "MkV power armour".

If you want to use a phobos as a proteus, at least turn it into something like the old Epic transition period land raider that combined ideas from the MkI and MkIII. B&S sells that style tracks and with a bit of work you can give a phobos wrap around tracks and stormraven or stormwolf sponsons will work perfectly fine on the thing.

Personally I would go mostly with Necron parts. His sceptre is too similar in description and rules not to be a Necrontech weapon. Chaos and Deldar stuff I think are a bit too openly corrupt. Sanguinary guard pre-date FW's assault marines a great deal. Pre-heresy marines still used twin-turbine designs at the time.

They're an easy fit for HH BA artificer gear, but they're not maximus armour.

Back when I played 40k, I painted my Eldar as coming from Iyanden. Similar problem, it feels like you can't add much color to a yellow mini without it looking wrong. Gold is basically metallic orange, and usually two similar colors should work next to each other (with a third color that contrasts with both), but in this case it doesn't work. Black and white seem to be safe with yellow, and gunmetal or silver are metallic variants of the two. They're pretty safe.

Another option is to use washes to move your gold further away from yellow. A darker wash, maybe even something equivalent to the very old chestnut ink, which was a brownish red. Play around with wilder versions of gold.

What other armour has that style of plating? I have not seen any on MkVII or VIII. Even the ones that have extra armour, like ones found in Devastator and Sternguard kits have the extra plate attached to the waist, not the breastplate.

I disagree, mainly because anything larger than 3k is already Apocalypse territory and you should be using those rules for games that have hundreds of models and will most likely take more than an afternoon to finish. At the end its up to you but FW recommended using Apocalypse in games larger than 3kpts and that the HH can be played between 1750-3000pts.

In the end its up to you but personally I like smaller games so the idea that the "game just gets started actually working at around 3k" is a bit of a false problem mainly because part of the game should be coming up with a balanced force despite the restrictions put in its creation, anything thats larger than 3kpts is just the player adding his entire collection with no regard for organization or plan, which is fine but being 'unable' to do that is not a problem.

2000-2500 is the sweet spot for HH as it allows you to bring things you want but you're still a bit restricted as to what you can bring.

A long time ago it was decided that the most important image for the TS was that their troops are mummies.
To make sure you played them as this, it was put into their fluff (and one of their rule editions) that they had limited interest and access in vehicles.

The HH setting likes to do call-forwards as often as possible. This gave the designers a problem with the Thousand Sons:

However, because the fiction range is huge and it would appease autists, we were given not just one (The Burning of Prospero) example of when the TS lost all their vehicles and robots, but a second (The Battle of the Fang) where they explicitly deployed the last of the Legion assets, and then abandoned most of them at the campaign's end.
