GW filed cease and desist orders on the recasters, because people left their contact info out.

You have a very good point, the EC were full blown weapon autists to the point they'd train with captured enemy weapons to the point where they were better than the makers themselves.
Still, World Eaters had a gladiator culture. You know, that thing Angron hated? Well it was the only thing he knew, so the XIIth channeled their fury into learning how to use those complex-yet-powerful weapons.
I mean, haven't you ever been so angry you want to wound people on a 2+ regardless of their toughness, or to hit people so hard they get stunned? Well now you can.

They're maybe the worst legion-specific ever.

He hides the chainaxes away until things start running smoothly again? But in all seriousness a WE preacher marine would most likely have a problem with the Nails but would not have an issue with the Libbies.

>Also, what's a good humidity for priming? After Knight Anon's disaster, I'd not wish a repeat.

Aim for 45% or lower. This is not always possible in some areas, but NEVER go above 65%. Aim for 50-55% if you live in more humid areas. If you're permanently above 65% like in the tropics, you're fucked and will need special primers/spray setups.

Fluff wise they'll be Chimera Blackshields, but I couldn't really do what I wanted rules-wise with that detachment so I went Sallies.

Guys, I got distracted by the holidays while making my vets and appear to have got halfway through making a stupid loadout.

Painted I have
Sgt w/power spear (for fluff reasons)
1 x missile launcher
3 x Bolters (one with vex)

The original plan was another missile launcher and the rest of the squad with just bolters, but I forgot I had some combi sprues.
I also put aside a cool looking sword for one of the guys either to be just a combat blade or a power weapon if I had spare points.

It's currently a planned PotL list with the other infantry being 2 squads of Termies, but I imagine that may change when TS rules come out.

Basically, should I bother with combis? It's gonna end up a hellishly expensive squad.

Also I have no idea if I'll ever play that many games so I guess have a good army isn't a massive concern

Those are two-handers, not greatswords. Greatswords could still be swung with a single hand if the situation requiered it, and have just the one parry bar. Usual length between 90-120 cm.
Two-handed swords were longer obviously, and had more than a single parry bar (like you can see with those examples) because their main use was engaging pike or spear wielding infantry.

The dude in the middle of the picture does seem to be holding a greatsword however.
>>

Seeing that 1e Epic was about HH and was nothing but MkVI, and that you got art of just about every legion in MkVI, there's really nothing outside of Spergy McAutismo stopping you from making MkVI AssMarines.

That came out 2-3 years before the armour mark article in White Dwarf in 1991. There was only Mk VI before that article.

> and that you got art of just about every legion in MkVI
A lot of that's older art from that period where GW downplayed the existence of the pre-Corvus marks (going by some of the notes from Jes Goodwin's sketches, it may have been an issue of trying to keep Marines aesthetically consistent), so people just assumed that any old Marine armour was going to be Mk VI. Still, true.

Just say you're army's mid-Heresy, if you feel the need to justify it at all.
>>

>That came out 2-3 years before the armour mark article

So? How long before the current HH gets retconed? Because I wouldn't put all my faith in it.

> from that period where GW downplayed the existence of the pre-Corvus marks

2007?

>Just say you're army's mid-Heresy, if you feel the need to justify it at all.

I don't need to make up justifications, I can whip out old and new art depicting my legion in MkVI before the onset of the Heresy.
>>
So, are the Dark Angels getting 6 'better than yours' RoWs instead of special units?

Sort of like how IF almost have third special unit in the form of terminators.
>>
>>51200969
>So? How long before the current HH gets retconed? Because I wouldn't put all my faith in it.
Probably a long time, going by how popular it is. Also, by this line of reasoning, we should consider the Rogue Trader fluff about Iron Warriors worshipping Slaanesh just as current as their present-day lore.

>2007?
You mean the Sabretooth stuff? Most of those artists had a fairly loose grip on the subject matter they were dealing with, since they weren't actual GW artists. The cover artist for the novels basically just followed in their stead, until Black Library started making him produce more lore-accurate art.

>I can whip out old and new art depicting my legion in MkVI before the onset of the Heresy.
How new? What you're saying basically seems to be "retconned or inaccurate = current and accurate, because reasons".
>>
>>51201093
How does this work? Art that you don't approve is inaccurate and non-canon, while art you approve is accurate and canon?

>How new?

2011 new enough?

>What you're saying basically seems to be "retconned or inaccurate = current and accurate, because reasons".

No, I'm saying it existed in the past, it exists now, and nothing in the current fluff saying it can't exist.

We know MkVI was made before the Heresy, we know it was used, and we know stockpiles of suits, plans and machinery were evacuated from Mars at the outset of the Heresy, giving the ready suits and their production capabilities to loyalists for the duration of the Heresy. This is all in the current HH books.

There is NOTHING that says MkVI was not used during the Heresy or that a certain legion didn't have any access to it. It doesn't take any what-ifs or hand waving.
>>
>>51200368

So what guys use the black helmets among the Word Bearers? I'm getting pretty tired of all the conflicting information and that Forge World barely gave us any information about ranks insignias but rather just stupid runes and banners.
>>
>>51203553
Mortis with Kheres are easy enough for flyers to ignore with short range.
Ten man tac squads with no transport will basically do nothing a they can't go anywhere and have no staying power.
Calivers are heavy, so rhinos aren't useful for them.
Tyrants are ok, Havocs could be better.
Phosphex for medusa are meh, S10 is usually better.
People here have found that the Mastadon isn't worth the points sadly, but that'll be up to you if you really want it, there's a lack of flare shields and it's too many points.
>>
>>51203553
How do you intend in getting a rite of war without a master of the legion? Pick up a cheap delegatus, but you need someone. Go big squads instead of msu, it will serve you well. Mortars are way better than support squads wiht volkite, and two squads of 15 marines are better than three with ten. That means you also only need two apothecaries, and buy one unit of three medusas instead of vindis, put the tyrants into one unit and you have successfully shortened the list of your heavy support slots, meaning you can go ironfire. These are all just suggestions of course, but I am thinking in terms of what would threaten my army the most.

You get the RoW from the siege breaker, it's one of the stipulations.

>>51203738
>>51203764
Okay, well how about I drop the 2 Vindicators and the Malcador and get 2 of these instead;

Malcador Assault Tank
>Demolisher Cannon, Armored Ceramite, Flare Shield, Lascannon Sponsons

Then I add 6 Marines to each tac squad, giving them some more staying power (I really only care about them as bubble wrap for my other guys)?

Or perhaps I could get a different LoW (any recommendations?) and use the extra points in a similar fashion. Would this work?

And why isn't the Rhino useful for Support Squads? I really wanted to keep them further back, just zoom up to a spot T1, use the 30" range and maneuver the Rhino to block LoS until they need to go or it dies.
>>
>>51203896
>You get the RoW from the siege breaker, it's one of the stipulations.

No, your compulsory HQ must either be a Warsmith or a Siege Breaker, but you still need a model with Master of the Legion to be allowed to use a ROW. Compulsory HQ =/= warlord btw.
>>
>>51203896
I use Caliver squads as pseudo heavy support and back field objective camping/deep strike inception. Putting them in rhinos to move sacrifices their shooting basically, but that's up to you.
LoW options, there's all of the -blade chassis which are useful, and I'd choose a LoW that fills in any gaps you have, that's still generally useful. Most general is the Fellblade, very good
>>
>>51204009
Huh, interesting. Okay, I think I'll drop the Mastadon, get a Fellblade (?) instead, and upgrade him/fluff out remaining squads.
>>
>>51203896
>>51204009
Anon is correct - you need a Master of the Legion first to use Rites of War. Hammer of Olympia does not grant Siege Breakers MOTL. You need a Praetor, Centurion Delegatus, or other appropriate character first.

Death Guard, Creeping Death, 2495/2500

HQ (280)

Praetor - Artificer, Combi, Refractor and Scythe – 140
Siege Breaker - Artificer, Combi and Thunder Hammer - 140

Elites (570)

Apothecary x2, Artificer x2, Augury Scanner x2- 120

20 man Tac Squad, Vexilla, Artificer and Melta on Sarge – 250
5 man Melta Support Squad, Rhino+Dozer – 215
5 man Plasma Support Squad, Rhino+Dozer - 215

Heavy Support (715)
2x Predator Executioner + Dozer – 270
2x Vindicator + Dozer (250)
Sicaran Venator + Dozer (195)
>>
>>51204552
So there's no heavy weapons for a siege breaker to buff at all, and I'm guessing he and the praetor are just slogging with tacs until they maybe make it up the board? Otherwise I guess you have most things covered ok
>>
>>51204552
At least give that praetor a meltabomb with those last 5 points.
>>
>>51204552
Why would a Praetor want a Scythe when he's got access to a Paragon blade? It's the Siege Breaker the oone who wants the scythe, not to mention no squad is good for your ICS
>>
>>51204695
>>51204856
I'll probably eventually get a heavy supp squad for the siegebreaker, but this is based on stuff I already own/is painted.

Scythe because it was originally a Delegatus, and scythe is fluffier. Might make it a paragon, but still model it as a scythe.
>>
>>51204856
Scythe is cheaper and allows for more attacks. What you can do is accept challenge with a throwaway sergant and have the praetor mow down the enemy unit with up to 8 attacks. Too bad he doesn't have digital lasers.

Autism 2: Electric Boogaloo

Mostly done with the basecoats, once I'm done with that it's time for washes. I'm honestly starting to like it as a proxy, but I think I'll reserve my judgement til I can see it side by side with a Nephilim.
>>
>>51205160
While I won't judge you on proxying as it's a decent amount of effort you put in it, this would have better served as a Fire Raptor since they both look like gunships, and are gunships, rather than fighter aircraft.

I know the Corvus is actually smaller than it looks like it would be. Similarly, the Stormhawk/Talon is actually bigger than it looks like it would. I extended the tail and wings on mine to make it look more like an actual jet fighter than a rocket-propelled brick.

As for the Stormeagle, an actual Stormeagle's hull is probably larger than mine by another inch or so, but I ran out of viable materials for extending my Stormraven (I added about an inch and a half of space). That said, I'm still happy with it, as it looks like it could actually hold more than 5 marines.

Since its a list sharing kinda weekend, I've had a shattered legions list I've been playing with.

2500, Decapitation Strike

Shadrak Meduson
RG Vigilator, AA, MB, Camo, Charnabal

IH Tacs 10 in Rhino w/ MM
AA, MB on sarge, extra ccws

Sallies Tacs 15
AA, MC Power fist, extra shed
(HQs go here)

RG Tac support 5 in Drop Pod
Plasma, Infravisor

Salllies Vet Tacs 10 in Drop Pod
AA, MC Power fist, 2 combi flamers, 2 heavy flamers, Marksmen

RG Terminators in Dreadclaw
Tartaros, chain fist, 4 ravens talons

Mor Deythan 10
AA, 7 sniper, 3 ML

RG Land's Speeder x2
2 HKM, MM each

IH Leviathan
AC, Blessed Auto., 2 Calivers, grab bombard, siege drill

I already have most of the IH, and I was looking for other legions to collect and a themed list to play without Ferrus. I might have a chance for the RG second hand. Open to other fun suggestions add this list is about rule of cool

They only ever seem to do point adjustments when a book gets updated though. Point changes through FAQ are extremely rare.
Maybe giving destroyers FnP (because radiation damage) and boi-chem rounds for their pistols might help untill the next armylist edition

And while we're on fixing units, why does everybody always forget Recon squads ? The sergant can't have a shotgun/sniper/stabby thing alongside the rest of the unit, they have Outflank in addition to Scout which already provides Outflank anyway, cost more points than Veterans and most wargear options are way too many points.

>>51207883
Units can only be affected by the same special rule once, unless specifically stated otherwise. Source : main rulebook. Though I guess FW could ask nicely for GW to change it next edition :^)

>>51207940
Why would you ever not want to sweep I wonder ?
>>
>>51208140
>Why would you ever not want to sweep I wonder ?
Only rare situatioms when you may want to leave a survivor rather than give unit a chance to respawn in certain raid missions or the like.

Like that iron hands rule that allows you to shoot shots rather than sweep. Why why why why why why would you ever opt out of potentially erasing a unit rather to make snap shots with basic weapons
>>
>>51208022
I may have got Meduson's rules wrong, but I thought he only unlocked RG/Sally rites, but doesn't act as a praetor/centurion for all three legions. In other words, you would still need a Sally HQ choice to use salamander units in your shattered legions force. But like I say, I may well be wrong here.

The only reason FW did that was because RG don't have a Mk IV upgrade set and that photo was taken for the "Betrayal at Calth bodies plus FW helmet and chest upgrade" pack.

But yes, mixing Mk VI and IV is perfectly fine, I just doubt RG did it since they supplied full suits to them for prototyping at Istvaan. Most likely once the bombs dropped, you'd fine plenty of Mk VI and IV mixes as the crippled RG forces were shown to scavenge a lot of armor from their enemies, a lot of whom wore Mk IV thanks to Horus.

What? No, I don't support armor mixing at all, ye heathen! I was referring to paint schemes.
>>
>>51210184
The lighting is shit and taking pictures of metals is a pain in the ass.

I've not filled in the other panels yet, just got the worst part out of the way. I only really got into the groove with the second half or so. I can go back and keep trying to make it more even but it will never be perfect, and I set myself a goal for the week to have them finished on sunday. There's a lot of things I would have done different by now during the process but it simply isn't worth going back to it. It will look very different once they've been sponge chipped and I've added weathering powders.

My previous models have all had less in the way of hazard stripes, or at least been more muted, and I find that they all look really boring on the table, so I'm intentionally switching from dull base colors to a bright yellow and sharp black to make them stand out and be recognizable at a distance. Maybe it is a mistake, but I'm trying to make something more visually interesting than just a sea of murky gunmetal.

What do you guys think about this :
>Alpha Legion using Recon company ROW
>Unit of Breachers with graviton guns
>Add Vigilator and Apothecary to unit
>Infiltrate that close to some annoying vehicle
>scout even closer
>stealth + shrouded + FnP breachers basically in enemy army ready with graviton guns to rape anything with AV
>>
>>51215690
While not as hardy or awesome, the Saboteur with Dynat would accomplish this a lot easier, wouldn't you say?
>>
>>51215699
Not on turn one though, and not against Solar Auxillary with 2-3 malcadors. But no worries, if I'm trying this a saboteur and Dynat will also be there, the army wouldn't be just that unit :^)
>>
>>51215690
Sounds good, infiltrate does open up a lot of possibilites as you dont have to buy a transport so the usefulness of breachers goes up a bit.
>>
>>51208409
You mean this?
>"Unless specifically stated, a model cannot gain the benefit of a special rule more than once. However, the effects of multiple different special rules are cumulative."

I'm pretty sure it's referring to the model having the special rule, not the model being affected by it (hence "benefit"). So a model can't get multiples of the same special rule and have them stack. That doesn't mean you can have multiple units with the same rule and them all affecting the target unit.

If it was that a target model could never be affected by the same rule twice, how does that work with, say, Poison or Rending? Does that mean only one Poison or Rending attack will affect them and the rest are normal attacks?

Should I just give up hope for an Alpharius model? Would a helmeted, suitably converted with 'not necrontyr' spear look cool?

How do I do the plasma blaster??? Do I put it on his shoulder like the Predator?
>>
>>51215983
Alpharius being a mere conversion kit with a scenic base, helmet, shoulder pads and weapons that you can apply to model of your choosing might be fun.

>How do I do the plasma blaster???

Get one from, say, Tartaros kit? I'm pretty sure the tartaros has smaller hands than most terminators, so you might be able to use it as is on a power armour.

No because I'm a sad and tired Word Bearer who has found out that he'll probably have to drop out of the painting contest he entered in because it's going to be 80% humidity all month and I have to paint 20 dudes by the end of the month.

Air conditioning removes humidity.

Spray in your car.
>>
>>51215962
You pay enough points for it, really.
>>
>>51216598
I'm too tired to understand if you're being serious or not?
>>
>>51216633
Solid particles may also absorb humidity from the air, thus you should also file your chinaresin in your car as well.
Obviously keep the windows up and set it to recycle on internal air, so external humidity doesn't seep in.
>>
>>51216647
All I have right now is plastic. I'll follow the rest of your advice and do it inside my car inside my garage. At that point, I'll likely asphyxiate and no longer need to worry about anything else for the time being.

On the down side, I'll no longer need to worry about anything else forever.
>>
>>51216663
>inside my garage

Going to order some stuff from based china again.. what are some really enjoyable kits to put together spanning all factions?
>>
>>51216681
I dunno. It's full of junk and my fridge where I keep dead rats. Is the garage a good/okay place to prime?
>>
>>51216795
I had a lot of fun putting together my jetbikes, the china price makes it way more reasonable to have a bunch of them.
>>
>>51216633
No, not serious. If your home has A/C then give the bathroom serious consideration. You can make a spray booth with a cardboard box with two ends open, an HVAC filter at the rear end, and a fan pulling air through it leading to a makeshift duct that vents to a window.
>>
>>51216811
>fridge where I keep dead rats

I was thinking about using a Storm Lord as a LoW for my Sons of Horus, any thoughts on how I can make use of that rolling hate truck/bunker properly in a legion army?
>>
>>51217255
Fill it with meltaguns.

Park it next to your enemy.

Get out and shoot with your Assault 1 BS5 guns since you're closer than 18".

Charge and get your extra attacks since you're going to outnumber your enemy since you killed a bunch of them with your meltaguns.

Repeat steps 4-5 as necessary.
>>
>>51217280
I was thinking of filling it with plasma justaerin, but this also works.
>>
>>51217280
Also, wouldn't keeping 20 meltadudes inside, and 10 more terminators to jump out and maul work better? Park nearby, termies jog out, meltas safe inside beam like fuck, and the termies charge the mauled remnants?
>>
>>51217255
what I'm doing with mine is filling it with 2 minimum squads of inductii and a red butcher death star. having multiple squads in a superheavy means I can drop off the other squads along the way to act as a meatshield in case any chainfists/melta threats get within charge range of the sides.
>>
>>51217337
I'll be entirely honest, the main reason I want a stormlord is to field a stormlord, (because vulcan mega-taxi is the fucking shit) I'll end up working out exactly what I want out it taxi-ing later.
