That's actually a good question, come to think of it.

Metatype matters little for riggers, or really any archetype. Wheelmen can boost reaction with ware, drugs, and powers. A good control rig also massively improves your driving, because it rescues thresholds AND grants dice. Drone riggers need LOG (and INT?) for electronic WARFARE and repairing, but you can get a meaningful repair pool even with a 4 LOG Troll.

To be fair, Shadowrun is as messy and crunchy as RPGs tend to be. If I wasn't so attached to the setting I would never have bothered to learn it.

It's not great mechanically. It does worse damage than 8p heavy pistols, which alsk have better capacity, and the Warhawk, which does 9p. The only advantage it has over the Warhawk is being able to perform semi-auto bursts and double taps.

What skills would a magical security expert need? Someone specialized in providing magical protection, with the obvious sideline of knowing how to get around other people's magical protection. The whole enchanting set seems obvious, and counterspelling and banishing, plus whatever other magic skills you can get, but which ones and to what degree? What sort of knowledge skills would you want, and what non-magic skills would be best at backing up what you do?
>>
>>51064080

for various reasons, we're not using that(mostly DM fuckery making it inconvenient to use), so does he have to buy all his spells? Does he get any through increasing his magic or base? I'm a little confused.

>mostly DM fuckery making it inconvenient to use
what exactly do you mean, cause if we don't know your houserules we can't really give you advice
>>
>>51064156

various bonuses to different skills based on random rolls and things. Honestly my character ended up being kind of fucked because I built my Sami in twenty minutes using it, then found out he was doing that, and when I complained about having to redo the whole thing, he was like "nah just throw it on top" so I'm starting with seven ranks in blades and stealth. It's fucked.

But yeah, does he have to buy all his spells? every single one? Because at this point, between buying up magic, buying HAVING magic, and buying spells, it seems like magic is one of the only things a magic character can do, especially at reduced karmagen.

>>51064188

mostly irrelivent to this, he hasn't said anything about free spells or anything. It's not houserules so much as "have a bonus skill point! Enjoy it fucking with character generation!"
>>
>>51064215

>>
>>51064132
The two main things a security mage would need to be good at are making wards (which are a ritual) and binding spirits, because the mage himself is very valuable and can contribute by doing those two things while still staying safe. Skilled and loyal mages are valuable assets corps do not want to lose needlessly.

Assensing would be needed so he could help screen visitors and identify potential threats (why does the "heater repairman" have 300k worth of combat augs?), and counterspelling would be used to assist in combating enemy mages.

Banishing would be helpful, but if you can just summon your own spirits to fight intruding spirits than it isn't wholly necessary.

Enchanting is really more for a research-oritented mage. Alchemy is intended (even if it kinda suck in practice) as a way to prepare for a known event in the future. A security mage likely does not know the facility he is guarding is going to get hit by a team of runners until it is too late for alchemy. Disenchanting targets a very small range of things, and is something you are doing instead of casting a spell, conjuring a new spirit, or throwing a grenade.
>>
>>51064188
>>51064239

anyways yeah, with karmagen, does the mage get free spells or do they have to buy them all? 600 karma buy in seems hard to make a semi-balanced character who is also a mage in. Kind of seems like magery is basically the thing you have to focus on, really, between buying(30 karma) magic, increasing your magic stat(100 karma for 6), potentially initiating, and buying spells and bound spirits... ugh.
>>
>>51064215
>But yeah, does he have to buy all his spells? every single one?
yes, at chargen you have to buy every spell you want with 5 karma each, though I don't know if they kept the Spellcasting*2 limit from 4e
in game you have to buy spells with a spell formula, costing differently for each category (500 nuyen for health and detection spells, 1000 nuyen for illusion, 1500 for manipulation and 2000 nuyen for combat spells) on top of the 5 karma to lean it

So: My question from the end of the last thread:

Related question: Why is every single splintering of a nation, and the continued existance of small territories in the face of stronger competing nations, explained as

>We had magic storms/dragons/great ghost dance / magic forests + helping magic animals ?

I mean, why does magic just completely shit over all the stablished borders, landlines, geography, power balances and nations? Why does it divide pretty much every place on earth and give massive favoritism to certain peoples and areas? Humanity did fine without magic for thousands of years and then it just comes back to take a big, fat, massive shit on everything to announce its arrival. Where has magic actually improved the lives of large numbers of folks without destroying so much more for larger numbers of other people?

And why is magic so elitist? Only the dragons, some magic animals and a few select lucky people, who happen to be born with the talent, profit from magic while everyone else is subjugated and inferior. Fight powerful magic without your own magic? Get rekt. Magic is always bound to a small number of persons or creatures and cannot be used in any worthwhile industrial capacity.

No magic plows for large automated magic farms.
No automated trains using magic to transport goods.
No widespread usage of magic for the good of the common people
Strong bias towards magically able beings with seperate power hierarchies, educations and economies

>Real food is rare and expensive because of awakened lands and animals destroying farms and blocking huge swathes of land
>Magic and magic animals come out and completely slaughter people and imbalance entire continents
>Magic phenomena and anomalies destroy and ravage while rarely giving anything positive in return

So, in my oppinion, magic is the greatest divider of metahumanity.

How could magic in shadowrun be made more widespread and 'fair'? Give me your oppinions.
>>
>>51064261

I've got a strong mage in my Hospital that I was wanting to have double duty of being a Healing mage and a security mage, with much more focus on the former than the latter.

Currently I have her decked out with things like the wards, but also circle of healing/protection and the like.

She's got the spirit summoning and junk, but I want her to be limited because she's a healer first, and a protector second. And a fighter WAYYYY further down.
>>
>>51064319
the limit is still in there, yes. you can also figure out formulas yourself using the arcana skill.
>>
>>51063935
Its okay as long as you don't do drugs and stay away from StickNShock Ammo and Mages with Stunbolts.
>>
>>51064350
>figure out formulas yourself using the arcana skill
yes, that is possible. But let's be serious: how many characters do you know that even have a single rank in arcana?

>>51064343
why should it be fair?
Magic and technology counteract
magic is rare, technology is common
magic breaks our physical rules, technology can't
magic is somewhat unpredictable, technology is more often than not predictable

>>51062872

Also, most of the pictures of my current character are lewd as fuck. I'm playing a (quite literal) Pornomancer.
>>
>>51064343
>So, in my opinion, magic is the greatest divider of metahumanity.

On the contrary, magic is a great equalizer of metahumanity, because it's indiscriminate. It doesn't favor any particular race, class, bloodline or nation, aside from (as you say) dragons and some magic animals. No society can write off a whole class of persons any more, because anyone could suddenly up and have cool magical powers. Magic plays favorites, but it plays its own favorites.

You might imagine "magical people" as their own group, but people don't work that way. The Awakened appear in isolation, among families and friends and communities and causes that they're already invested in. They can't be raised to identify themselves solely with other people like them, which is 80% of the problem with an aristocracy or class system. No, you can't make large automated magic farms, but any farmer's son or daughter could suddenly pop out as a mage and decide to become a magic farmer.
>>
>>51064343
>How could magic in shadowrun be made more widespread and 'fair'? Give me your opinions.

It's not supposed to be fair, nor should it be fair. Magic is a force of nature as much as a volcano erupting or a tornado blowing a town down. At best it can be temporarily harnessed by those select few. Also magic isn't the greatest divider. The SIN is.

I think you actually do get some free spells. Look at the priority table; for the magic ones it lists spells along with magic rating and stuff, like this:
Magic 6, two Rating 5 Magical Skills, 10 spells
>>
>>51064567
>Priority
Chummer, read the fucking thread
we are talking KarmaGen, not Priority
>>
>>51064578
Fuck, what even is KarmaGen?
>>
>>51064593
Chummer, are you serious?
>>
>>51064593

Look in Run Faster.

Effectively, you're given, like, 600 karma to buy literally everything A la carte. Metatypes and magic have karma costs at this point though.
>>
>>51064024
He buys his spells, 5 Karma each. Its a big fucking Karma dump to pick up the 10 spells a Priority A Magician gets.

The must takes for a Spellslinger:
Heal, Increased Reflexes, Stunbolt, Improved Invisibility
Heal because its one of two ways to magically heal in Shadowrun, Increased Reflexes so you don't have to huff Jazz all the time, Improved Invisibility because you can turn your entire team invisible, Stunbolt is for the "troll with 50 armor" situation
Everything else is up to him, Electricity Spells are superior elemental damage, but people commonly defend against it because of that. I like Flamethrower and Fireball personally. Physical Barrier, Levitate, Magic Fingers, Influence Thought/Mind (I forget), are all great options as well.
>>51064630
Its 800 Karma, 600 is for your street level folks.
>>
>>51064697
>Improved Invisibility because you can turn your entire team invisible
correct me if this was changed with 5e, but isn't the difference between Invis. and Improved Invis. that the former is a mana spell and thus only works on living beings while the second one also works on machines and cameras?
>>
>>51064734
Yeah. Its why regular invisibility is hot garbage in a world covered in cameras and sensors.
>>
>>51064343
To answer the first part of your question; early on in the Sixth World's timeline the original nations of Earth had effectively no defense against magic whatsoever so control over it and skill with it (however unrefined) and most especially aid by extremely powerful beings from the Fourth World who have great skill in it was basically a metaphorical Predator attack drone to the bow-and-arrows armies of the world; it was something they had no defenses against.
Imagine what you could do to a country that didn't know or even BELIEVE in "direct physicals links" to it's leaders; you could kill one by visiting a hotel him he'd been in and picking up his hairs, all without even being within ten miles of him yourself.

>And why is magic so elitist?
I dunno, why is high biological intelligence and having good genes so elitist? Technically that's not elitism, it's just random chance and luck; it's PEOPLE that decide magic has great value and use and thus Awakened are treated as valuable and useful.

>So, in my oppinion, magic is the greatest divider of metahumanity.
Your opinion is noted and even one that's there in-universe, and from an out-of-universe perspective this is deliberate; adding magic and magical races to the setting didn't make things happier or easier, it just added another layer of dystopian hell to everything and further redefined what "normal" meant in the Sixth World.
>>
>>51064627
No bully anon.
>>
>>51064088

Probably a 3. Flamethrowers use taser ranges, so your drone has an effective range of 20m. If you're modding with drone mod rules you can't fit much else than the flamethrower, and if you're using vehicle rules you can only get the armor to 6. Rotodrones are pretty fragile, so you'll probably get swiss-cheesed before you get that close.

That said, I could see putting this on a camouflaged ground drone and that working as a gimmick. The HTR team will be shocked when the trashcan beside them pops out wheels and busts out the napalm. Basically a mobile and redeployable turret boobytrap.

Either way it's high risk, high reward. That's a lot of cash on a drone that will be so close to the people it's shooting that it could get destroyed pretty quickly. Remember that drones are fragile!

RAW flamethrowers "cannot mount any accessories except biometric safety systems (RG 59)", so they don't. Fluffwise a smartlink's camera and laser rangefinder probably can't work very well looking directly at a firestream. Also it probably doesn't have enough processing power to make the kind of fluid dynamics calculations to provide a firing solution.
>>
>>51064697

so it takes two spells to get stunbolt and improved invisibility, right?
>>
>>51064869
I'm confused.
They are two separate spells, so they each cost 5 Karma each. Improved Invisibility does not cost more Karma than Invisibility.

>>
>>51064917
>they each cost 5 Karma each
Anon, please.
Stunball is an AoE spell, it hits everyone in the range, Stunbolt is a single target spell.

Invisibility is admittedly shitty, but it has lower drain, so its easier to cast.
>>
>>51064917
nope, each spell is self sustained. you can just get powerbolt and improved invisibility for 5 karma each

but the main reason for these are as >>51064944 said the drain value
you may decide that you want a spell that isn't as powerful but has lower drain
>>

>>
>>51065346

in fifth edition, the main thing was that the books don't make any sense from a design perspective.

seriously. Learning this game is a fucking chore.
>>
>>51064561

Three stories, but how big are the stories? Is it one block, or multiple like a University hospital?

If you want 30 people, remember that most folks are nurses and orderlies. Maybe one in ten people are doctors in the patient floors, if that. The majority are going to be near the emergency room.
>>
>>51064754

Get your people and anyone associated with you carpet bombed with VX. It frequently amazes me how often the SR writers just ignored chemical weapons.
>>
>>51065376

That... Uhm... Hard to describe. Honestly, I'm kinda new to the whole GM thing.

Party is going to be robbing a Renraku VA. I know all the doctors are going to be packing heat, and even some of the patients, so I don't want to oversaturate the people. Just curious of 30 people sounded unreasonable.

Because after that, each floor will have a security team, and then there will be the patients with cyberlimbs that have guns in them... Yeah, I just want there to be a reasonable amount of doctors.
>>
>>51063087
>>51063135

So I'm late to the thread but here's what I did for dipshit players who can't be bothered to get excited about a new game:

Make a collection of "template" characters with Amensia/Neural deletion. No magic, no deckers. Or if you do, give the person a well defined "spell list" with equations and descriptions

Dumb down systems and add in complexities. First mission has no environmental modifiers on roles, no matrix, no decking.

Second run has some simplified decking, etc.

Shadowrun is a system that really needs to be fine tuned to the group, unfortunately.
>>
>>51064894

It's a matter of tactics.

Flamethrowers, including the blazer from RG has a range of 20m. The incinerator from GH3 says it uses light pistol ranges (contradicting RG implicitly) but let's give it that, so it has an effective range of 15/30m and a max range of 50m. That's close/medium range on most weapons, so anyone with an AR, shotty, or SMG can shoot at you from outside your range at medium-long range, so closing the gap is going to be difficult. The solution? Don't have a gap to begin with. Have your drone set up so that you can engage your opponents up close off the bat - ambush them, hide your drone behind a pillar, set it on a timed reboot so your drone boots up and has enemies in front of it, etc.

In general, drones are relatively fragile (especially the ones from core without armor mods). And if you have a flamethrower, you're a priority target. But due to the way drone armor works (drones don't take stun, so if damage+net hits are less than armor and the damage isn't electric, the drone ignores it) drones with heavy armor can tank well. A stray AK round could knock out your flamethrower toting rotodrone, and that's an expensive weapons system down the drain. But a Steel Lynx can take a licking and keep on ticking. And it comes with the heavy weapon mount pre-installed, so you don't have to burn Restricted Gear on a weapon mount at chargen. It'll be expensive, but if you're doing flamethrowerdrone you've got expensive tastes.

I wonder if you can take Realistic Features from R5, and use it to make your Lynx look like a trashcan. I'll workshop that a bit, I think.
>>
>>51065430
Realistic Features is for making your drone look like an inferior flesh-being.

I mean a large one, like residential ones you bring to the curb, large bins you can find in hallways and at restaurants, and less-common bins like pic related.

It might be the wrong dimensions, but it doesn't have to stand up to a whole lot of scrutiny. All you need is for the enemies to ignore the trashcan for a couple seconds while you turn on the pilot light - and they'll likely be in a firefight already.

'Course, once the word gets out about the killer canbot this trick won't be as effective. That's when you bring a decoy trashcan on runs, just glue a trashcan on top of a Seven or a Jardinero. We also break out the chameleon coating.

So, if I'm reading "Ward" correctly, it creates a magic barrier in a large area for a long time that works like a mana barrier spell?

Would it be a bad idea for a security mage to set up a ward around an entire building, then, that has frequent traffic in and out?
>>
>>51066060
Why wouldn't they set up a mana barrier
>>
>>51066137

Unless I'm reading it wrong, it is a giant barrier that would act as an impassable wall to anything magical, and if the building gets frequented by many people, it would kiiiinda suck to have to manually let people in or every time someone happens to be a magic 1 aspected mage.

I mean, yes, that is their job as a security mage, but working in Security IRL, there is an important ratio between security and convenience. You could have maximum security, but if it takes every employee 20 minutes to get through it, you're probably being too secure, no?

Not that guy, but I feel the need to reiterate it on his behalf - the nursing staff is going to outnumber the doctors 10:1, and how many doctors you have there really depends on how many rooms there are per floor, and how close to capacity they currently are.

The number of staff on-site varies enormously depending on whether a hospital is having a busy night or a slow night.

/srg/, how the fuck are you supposed to run Shadowrun
Any edition, any game

I've tried a bunch, at least four different games so far, and they're all clusterfucks that wind up dying out for what feel like the same reasons.

People aren't invested in the game

People don't feel like they get to interact with NPCs enough

People are confused all the time keeping up with plots and runs

People want more of a chance to explore and interact with the area

And that's avoiding the one that got killed because crushing players with consequences of being fuckups who try to murder everything in sight is apparently bad again

I feel like I keep getting crushed by mixed messages and I can't seem to keep the fun going. So what the fuck. I don't have this problem with D&D or 40k rpgs. I just wanna have fun running shadows and watching people plan crazy stunts.

Find a group that knows what they want and can express it for one. SR can be played in many ways with many settings, many themes, and many tones.
>>
>>51065394
SR writers ignored MANY things.
Really, the entire subgenre it belongs to relies on ignoring some extremely basic assumptions about several things, especially ones based on late 80's cyberpunk as per SR is.

But in that particular example you give, it's probably what important Sixth Worlders do NOW, but back then when magic was first coming into play they likely wouldn't see a need or reason for it.

>>51067902
So assuming I've got a full 6 power points to work with, that'd be:
3.5 PP for Improved Reflexes 3
1.5 PP for Improved Ability (Pistols) 3 (assuming 6 ranks in pistols, this is the max)
0.25 PP for Nimble Fingers (QoL for a gunslinger)
Which leaves 0.75 power points left. Maybe one rank of Combat Sense and then Enhanced Accuracy (Pistols)? Or would Attribute Boost be better?
>>
>>51067868
DO

.Get guns with high Accuracy. Take advantage of all the dice you should be rolling.
.Splurge on Smartlinks, Personalized Grips, etc to maximize your weapon's Accuracy
.Invest in Improved Reflexes. Yes, its expensive. Do it.

DON'T
.Bother with Ambidexterity. Its shit. Shoot one target well rather than two targets not-well.
>>
>>51063477
>Don't forget to grab a Laserpointer or Smartgun System.
I quite like holosights if you're not going take advantage of smartguns and AR.
>>
>>51067961
Yes combat sense is a sexy power that combat adepts should always make room for
>>51067967
Also do this. Then find out the following:
What's the final dicepool for pistols taking into account all positive modifiers from qualities, powers, gear, etc? Divide that number by 4. If the result is more than your gun's accuracy go with Enhanced Accuracy. If not go with Attribute Boost.

Also post the character once you've made it.
>>
>>51068012
Haven't got to qualities yet, but my dicepool is looking like this right now:

6 Ranks
6 Agility
3 Improved Ability
2 Specialization (Semi-Automatics)
---
17 dice at chargen.

Probably gonna go with a Predator V (maybe two, despite what >>51067967 suggested I do want to eventually dual wield), which can get 7 accuracy easy without an implanted smartlink. So I guess attribute boost it is.

Haven't filled in the fluff yet, concept was someone who was extracted from a corp breeding program at a young age. I originally had Prototype Transhuman, but that made little sense beyond pumping my agility that much higher, and the fact that you need to take Restricted Gear as well in order to get +4 Agi kinda undersold it. Willpower doesn't mean much at an even number (even less with Agile Defender), the point that makes it a 4 can go into Intuition instead for sweet delicious trio of perception, defense (something adepts are better suited for than tanking), and initiative.

The skills say this guy is a hitman, maybe getaway driver (if he had an actual car) and nothing more so check with your fellow players if they need your character to be good at anything else (preferably relating to agility--your best attribute).

I'm gonna need someone else to confirm this but I think dual-wielding is only worth it if you're catching the enemy by surprise in which case you don't need ambidexterity 'cause you have a pretty good chance to hit anyway.
Also keep in mind the difficulty involved in playing those negative qualities without fucking over your teammates.

Contacts with low ratings are pretty bad. A fixer with high connections and the rest of your points in loyalty will hook you up with various contacts you can get during play.

I think you have a few pieces of gear repeated and stuff that isn't really worth it but fuck it I never was good at optimizing gear unless I sat there for hours pinching every single nuyen. All the stuff everyone would tell you to get is in there anyway.

All in all though this dude's pretty decent. I'd run with him. Once you've refined him as much as you can please post your newborn murder boy.

Yeah, I went back and revised Wil to 3 and Int to 5. I think a single Fixer contact at C4 L2 might work - really all I need is a way to get ammo reliably, until I start trying to initiate into a lodge.

The game is less about running against corps and more about trying to carve out a piece of the Barrens to live in - and keep the various gangs out of it - so being a combat monster is probably ok. We already have a rigger and a face/secondary decker. No mage yet, but one character is undecided and I'm trying to sell her on an aspected summoner.

If they are dedicating themselves to operating in the barrens then I'm sure your murderhobo will do great.

Hey do y'all think "Hacker" is too vague for a contact's archetype? I originally wanted a hacker that made my character's fake SINs and licenses but I was told the "ID Manufacturer" that Chummer has an example is too niche to be useful. So is Hacker too broad?
>>
>>51069180
Finally, a use for Alchemy.
Carve out a piece of the Barrens, use being a friendly-looking grandma to set up a trustworthy cookie shop, use a fixer (and a ballistic mask and full-body armor) to cut off all superficial connections to the other murderhoboes, and just wait until someone related to your enemies comes by.

So, what's the porn industry like in the Sixth World? There are a lot of very wealthy, stressed, morally bankrupt people who probably have very particular tastes in the world now. Do any of the big corps try to dominate the industry? If you're an exotic subrace or changeling, how likely is it that you might get approached by skeevy porn scouters or pimps? How much would you ask Mr Johnson to pay you for the task of somehow procuring a BTL of getting blowed by a dragon? Is porn unregulated enough for it to be reasonable that an attractive SINless person could find temporary work to make ends meet?

What kind of porn categories exist that didn't before? Orc/troll dudes on other metahuman girls has to be a thing, and gay elf porn, gay troll porn, gay troll on elf porn... but what else? What are the top porn searches?
>>
>>51070583
The way I usually write it is that there's just too much to describe.
Rule 34 applies completely and utterly in the Sixth World, because of magic, BTLs, the Matrix, cybernetics, bioware and metahumans making it easy as shit to whip up something or have someone whip it up for you as soon as you realize that you want to see it - and the world is morally blunted, sexually liberal and fundamentally corrupt enough that there are thousands of studios out there who make a living out of thinking up what people want before they even know it.
It's pointless to describe it or talk about it, because at the moment you get the idea, there's already porn of it. Books could be written on it constantly for perpetuity, and no one would be able to catch up until the Seventh Age begins.
>>
>>51069244
Tell your GM that the reason you want it to be so specialized is so that got can have a high turnover of SINs without bankrupting yourself. Having a dedicated ID guy means that you can ask him to whip up a specific identity for a specific job as a favor to you (based on Loyalty) and then return the ID to him after the fact (or return a favor to him if it gets burned).

Specialized contacts are there to give you free loaner gear. That's why they're so specialized.
>>
>>51070583
>So, what's the porn industry like in the Sixth World?
Doing just fine.

>Do any of the big corps try to dominate the industry?
As far as I know, no. Just a lot of smaller players on that market.

>If you're an exotic subrace or changeling, how likely is it that you might get approached by skeevy porn scouters or pimps?
Low, unless you're somehow 'famous'.

>How much would you ask Mr Johnson to pay you for the task of somehow procuring a BTL of getting blowed by a dragon?
There's not enough money in the world, omae.

>Is porn unregulated enough for it to be reasonable that an attractive SINless person could find temporary work to make ends meet?
Definitely.
>>
>>51067961
Grab a point of Attribute Boost (AGI), yeah, but then fill the rest with whatever
Also, the max is skill*1.5, so you can actually get up to improved ability 9 in pistols if you want.
>>
>>51070583
Simsense dominates. When there's full-sensory VR, you have to assume that even a casual consumer of porn (read: literally everyone) is going to be consuming coldsim VR porn just as a matter of fact. Serious perverts might upgrade to hotsim. True degenerates will dabble in BTL porn occasionally, but at that point you're risking a dangerous addiction spiral.

Content-wise, there's literally anything you can imagine - including 'detailed simulations' of truly heinous acts.

And that's not even getting into the actual sex industry. Corporate comfort girls, bunraku parlors, Realistic Feature sex drones, and weirder shit all facilitated by the Sixth World's technology and magic combined.

Hey /srg/, I'm trying to make a parkour adept with a side of archery, since Strength works for most of the athletics skills as well as bows.

I was considering a Satyr metatype base, with Celerity for additional speed. Then I hit powers and I get a little turned about, I don't make many adepts so I don't know which ones are good: I found Wall Running, Prodigious Physicality (Kinesics for athletics skills), Gliding, and Great Leap, but I don't know what else to add to make it good other than basic Improved Skill/Attribute. Anyone have ideas?

That's how mages tend to work. Just look at the spells, though. Perfect invisibility, levitating objects or yourself, nonlethal, silent takedowns, enhanced reflexes, mind control, one of the few sources of instant healing in the game.

And the best thing is, is that you don't look dangerous until the magic comes out.
>>

Are there any other metatype/role/gimmick combos than for example satyr parkour adepts and AI wheelmen that you feel get too much coverage or where people tend to feel locked into that combination for the bonuses?
Once in a while I catch myself wanting to put a spin on those characters and try to make them work with different combinations (especially when there are almost no characters of that type that deviate from that combination, like satyr parkour types), but I don't want to base all of it on my own pet peeves.

To build on your thing about bow-and-arrow armies, it's also the case that those guys were the first to grok and run with magic because it was their religion. The secular states had to start from zero to build hermeticism (which is itself built on religious beliefs, but ones ancient enough that they can pretend it's not) while the tribal folk could have shamans out there doing mana shenanigans from the word go.

Would a dragon really be very unwilling to give someone a blowjob? I mean, they wouldn't get a sexual kick out of it themselves, probably, but they do seem to be smug fucks who like making smooth superiority displays. I'd bet you could find a dragon who'd just enjoy playing someone like an instrument, making them squirm and beg for more. So long as they were very clearly the one in charge (and the giant predator with its jaws around your meaty bits generally is), they wouldn't object. If you're willing to eat someone whole anyway, what objection would you have to putting any subsection of their body in your mouth?

Like, dragons don't seem like they'd have anything specifically against sex, just that it'd be a sort of nothing to them. So if you added in some other aspect to it that did appeal to them, any sexual element would just be irrelevant as far as they're concerned. If they get someone to give them something they want in exchange for riding on their tongue or humping at their magical asexual egghole for a while, why not?

You could probably have a dragon sex industry magnate. Not a Great Dragon, obviously, but a lesser dragon sitting on top of a metaphorical pile of pimps, madames and porn studios, occasionally deigning to smugly show the metahumans how superior a dragon is at something they're not even really interested in the same way, that seems like it'd work.

>>
>>51072291

Well, yeah, but at the same time, the impression I get about dragons in shadowrun generally is that they never forget that they're dragons, and you shouldn't either. Like, they have absolutely no objection to just being their giant scaly selves whenever they feel like it, and probably even prefer to be in their true forms whenever there's no reason not to. So even if most dragons are subtle it's probably not too remarkable for the daily news to have some subheader about a dragon blocking traffic with their fat ass or swimming around the bay on a nice day or things like that. And they're totally not shy at all about just cutting the bullshit and bulldozing their way through a problem by just being a dragon, if it's a valid tactic to e.g. just set a forest on fire and eat anyone who comes running out. They're not snobs, they'll get their claws dirty. They don't have any big hangups about the animal side of themselves like metahumans do, they're a big hungry predatory beast thing as well as what else they are and they know it. Gotta remind everyone exactly what they're fucking with now and then. Most dragons probably really like putting on a show like that, too, just letting loose and basking in the warm glow of "yeah I'm a giant fucking magical lizard god thing, behold my primal fucking magnificence, mmm that's good".

I think that's a thing people miss about shadowrun dragons, actually. Everyone's all "dragons don't care about metahumanity" but there are different sorts of caring. I think dragons like having other sentient beings around, in general, and they'd probably get pretty lonely and sad if they were left to themselves. Hence why for the really big threats to the world they're generally allies.

Anyway yeah, again, I don't think dragons in general would have any specific problem with sexuality. It's not natural for them to lewd it up that way but it's not natural for them to like video games or shitposting on the internet either, they still do it.
>>
>>51072738
In 5e commlinks can run a number of programs equal to device rating (which is usually equal to data processing), but IIRC Decks and RCC have a listed "program rating" which tells you how many they can run.

HMHVV is currently circulating publicly and completely uncontrolled. It's not zombie apocalypse levels yet, but more and more people are getting infected every single year, to the point that since the 2050s there have been entire ghoul street gangs, consisting of sapient ghouls herding their feral fellows at people.

Tragically, it's emergency responders of all kind who are statistically most likely to end up infected at some point.

Basically, think AIDS epidemic mid-80s, but instead of destroying your immune system it turns you into a vampire or a zombie.

>So, a fair number of guards and such with Chem suits, each exam room being reinforced and locked from the outside?
The ward is probably accessed from outside the building too - for deliveries of 'patients' if nothing else. There's no chance in hell that anyone would approve of the infection risk that bringing Infected through normal areas would represent. So it needs to have at least one external wall - or a dedicated hallway straight to outside, if not.

Mind you, it can still probably be accessed from the interior of the building - through the standard double airlock, complete with decontamination showers. Infectious quarantine procedures - you know the drill.

But the interior doors would be for security/medical personnel to access the ward. The Infected patients would never enter the ward through that route.

>>
>>51072192
Perhaps, but it would have to be a fairly young dragon honestly. A dragon usually doesn't get it's hands dirty with the work unless it has no other choice.
Remember to think of the stuff a dragon gets into like Smaug and his horde; Smaug does NOTHING with his wealth, he just sits on it and doesn't move. Thus a dragon might buy into the industry for it's profit margins but otherwise would be distant and focus on the money-making side as that is the part that matters.

Then again since you probably only brought up the idea to put it on f-list and jack off to it when you fail to get anyone actually ERP with you because that's how f-list works, you don't actually NEED any true setting information as what you really want here is the rubber stamp that says it totally makes here.
Here's a tip; don't bother asking permission if it's okay to just jack off. Just go do it.

Actually, dragons apparently do have biological sexes and sex drives, as opposed to the idea of just asexually laying an egg and fobbing it off to someone else to imprint magically that seems to have been going around. There's a third edition book, Dragons of the Sixth World, that lays out a bit about how dragons mate. Apparently they do it in the air and it looks enough like fighting that it gets mistaken for that. The female does give the eggs to a great dragon to telepathically/magically raise, and the young dragons end up with a lot of their traits, but some qualities of the parents can pass on as well. The in-character narrator lecturing about the physiological side of things talks about dragons seeing mating as a solemn sacred duty, but later on there's a story about Rhonabwy hearing the Sea Dragon sing and liking it so much that he disguises himself as a male sea dragon so he can fuck her.

Making a Spider and I have a question:

the Lockdown Program. When you cause damage to someone, they're Linklocked until you stop running this program, or they successfully jack out.

Now, the Biofeedback program specifically states that it causes damage vs. people who fail an attack action (and have their attack reflected back at them), and the Hammer program specifically states that its +2 DV does NOT apply to damage people take as a result of failed attack actions at you.

So, where does lockdown fall, as it is lacking clarification? You ARE doing damage to someone if an attack action fails, but you're not initiating said attack.

So, would they get link locked or not?

I'm pointing out that it's not actually official like you said it was, not saying that using it is incorrect. It's also a freelancer saying that he remembers it being mentioned after launch, but not who arrived at the decision or even anyone actually from Catalyst saying it's so even on the forums, other than Xenon maybe mentioning it. It's the ruling I use, but I won't say it's the official errata until CGL says so.

>>51075470
Considering that CGL themselves are explicit that the forums aren't official errata, and they throw up test rulings there while they publish their official errata (in two separate versions, Missions and regular), I'll go with that. I've got no problem taking Vincent Baker's G+ statements as RAW, because that's how he gets out errata.

Get some shotgun ammo for the Lemat's center chamber - It's often a good idea to load it with something different than what you've loaded the cylinder with - APDS if it's nonlethal, gel or Sns if it's lethal, at least if you want to be able to swap it on the fly. It's also good for gimmick loads like trackers.

Consider replacing one of the revolvers with a lever-action sporting rifle from GH3 (or getting one in addition to the revolvers, of course). It's thematically consistent and it'll give you a solid long-range option for engagements outside pistol range.

Are there rules for these in 5e? I found a sidebar in street grimoire, but it's not giving me a whole lot of info.

The first looks like it's supposed to light up when astral forms pass through it, which is straightforward and doesn't look like it needs rules. Second one seems like there should be rules for astral folks trying to move through it, and the third definitely needs rules for hurting peoples' astral forms.

>worrying this much about officialness and RAW
The problem isn't what you consider to be the "official" rules, but that promoting the distinction heavily implies that it's the only right way to run things. Single-minded obsession with RAW is one of the means by which the dnd 3.5 community got so entitled and hostile to houseruling, and it's too easy to go down that path with shadowrun too.

If we can focus on playing the game in ways that are better, instead of obsessing over adherence to strict readings of an imperfect original ruleset, we'll end up with a much better gaming experience.
>>
>>51075370

if you wanna be risky, or perhaps dig the concept, you can always look into summoning a spirit for yourself using the Calling ritual (Street Grimoire, 126). This is a kind of summoning that you can preform, even if you're Mundane.

You could negotiate with this spirit and make a deal with it (usually in exchange for Karma), and you could discuss with your GM what you might get in return.

Just fair warning: The spirit owes you no Services. All it owes you is its time, and even then, it might lose its patience and try to break the ward around the circle (described in the book, no worries) in order to give you more than just a piece of its mind.

You would require the Arcana skill (Also something that doesn't require a magic stat) instead of Ritual Spellcasting.

Take it somewhere else. My point was specifically that anon was lying when he said it was official errata, when it was in no way official; it's incomplete secondhand reporting from a freelancer in the space that is explicitly outside official errata. It's not single-minded obsession with RAW to tell people not to lie because they dislike how someone else interprets a rule.

>>51076480
Adepts have fucking incredible face-related powers, in particular Commanding Voice. So yes. Very yes.
>>
>>51076480
Being Awakened is the core part of being a Pornomancer.
>>
>>51076480
It works pretty well with either awakened or cybered up people.

Even burnouts!

It is typically deployed as a liquid spray for personal defense and deterrence; this agent is often tagged with RFID tags or special dyes to identify victims later.

>Often tagged with RFID tags

Sorry, am I misreading that, or is this saying pepper punch is laced with RFID tags in a liquid spray? I know RFID tags are small, but just how fragging small are they?

Pretty fragging small. EVERYTHING has RFIDs in it, even the food you eat.

Alright, related to PepperPunch.

How is it delivered?

Would a can of mace use Exotic weapons? unarmed? Like, i'm really not sure.
>>
>>51077003
chummer, didn't you read the previous post?

>>51076989
>even the food you eat.

this is why tag erasers should be in the arsenal of every runner
because often it isn't to be used against tags on other things
it's against tags on/in YOU

You can put it in capsule rounds

I meant in the Sixth World, of course. We definitely didn't put anything in your food to track your movement, to support the GPS and listening device in your pocket and the multiple cameras and broadcasting devices in your home. Certainly not.

What's with the Degenesis picture? That's not Shadowrun.
>>
>>51077107
Why are you so obsessed with "proper Shadowrun"? You've been doing this to multiple OPs.
>>
>>51077069

I am aware, but I'm curious about the spray mace, because one of the individuals that my party will be going up against is the kind of paranoid chick who thinks every man is out to rape her. Like, ask her for the time, and she will scream rape and mace you.

Yes. 8 dice is the definition of tertiary skill - something you can get a couple hits on to do decently, but not something you want to be competing against someone with.
>>
>>51077123
The hell're you talking about? I don't even care about Shadowrun. I just came here because I saw Degenesis, and then found out this is a Shadowrun thread.

I don't even play Shadowrun.
>>
>>51077107
And?
it fits the awakened topic
If we were only allowed to use official pictures you could count the topics allowed on one hand

Also we wouldn't be better than CGL with their constant art reuse

>>51077129
I wouldn't use Exotic Ranged because that would mean you HAVE to have trained in it to use it

Honestly, I think it would most likely fall under Pistols

>>51077143
sure
>>
>>51077168
Well, as someone who doesn't even know Shadowrun besides having friends who play it, would you mind informing me how it fits?
What's an awakened?
>>
>>51077190
Awakened persons are people that can use magic
Some of that magic takes the form of rituals
the picture in the OP depicts a ritual

understood?
>>
How important is Magic 7? 35 karma is a hefty investment, and since this game encourages horizontal growth over vertical, I could buy a lot of skills for 35 karma
>>
>>51077190

An Awakened individual is someone who was lucky enough to be able to use Magic in the world.

Unlike many other settings, How one perceives magic literally affects their magic and how it works.

Typically it is religion that determines one's 'tradition' (or, group of individuals that perceive magic in a similar way) though there are some non religious ways.

A Christian Theurge is someone who is magical and typically practices their magic related to Christianity. Their foci and reagents could be holy symbols and the like, their spirits could be angels. A Hermetic mage is someone who is much more traditional 'wizard' in the most literal sense (see: Merlin)

As >>51077228 kinda just stated while I was typing this, the OP depicts someone preforming a ritual (Or possibly summoning or binding a spirit).

Shadowrun is an extremely diverse setting with a lot of Open ended creativity, where the OP image, the main character from any Assassins creed game, anyone from Mad Max, and cyborg could literally be in the same party and not be out of character for the setting.
>>
>>51077228
Understood. I was just curious. Carry on.
Sorry for crashing your party.

Not at chargen. 6 is the standard cap, and even that is plenty.

The only time I really saw characters above 6 in 5e was when adepts had dick-all initiation options before SG.
>>
>>51077293
Oh hey, that actually sounds kinda neat. If I were to take this up, what would you recommend for a beginner?
And how many books does it have? I'm not a fan of "drowning in sourcebooks".
>>
>>51077349
Just 5e core, shadowrun runs just fine with the corebook.
>>
>>51077366
So it has 5 editions? May I ask why you would recommend that over the others, or would that spark a war?
>>
>>51077349
>>51077398
>I'm not a fan of "drowning in sourcebooks"
depends on what you mean

As for edition, 5e is the current one with the most players, 4e is using a very similar system with the general powerlevel being more that of a soldier. The first three editions used a different system and have a more traditional cyberpunk feel
as >>51077366 said you can theoretically play the game with just the core book, though the other books add fluff and new options

For more info check the first link in the OP pastebin "New GM Advice"
>>
>>51077398
5e is just the latest.

It is mostly an improved 4e.

3e and earlier were entirely different games, with very different systems that are heavily coated in 90's zeerust and 90's rpg design.
>>
>>51077349
Stick to the core book, its enough for gaming.
You COULD get RunFaster for additional qualities and shit, but it also includes metavariants and infected races and thats shit you want to stay away from as long as possible.
>>
>>51077349

Pretty much the same as the others. There usually aren't wars over the different editions. 5th is the most recent and the most common. 4th is also used a lot.

You'll find some that play 3rd edition, though very few and far between. I would personally suggest 5th edition because you'll find the most players there.

5th edition does run really good with just the core rulebook, but I would really suggest also looking into 'Run Faster' as it offers SO many options that everyone can take advantage of (Including the most popular character generation type: Sum to 10).

You can find all the books you want in the Pastebin in the OP.

Instead of the extra point in pistols, get the revolver speciality for the +2. You've got a clear preference here, you might as well commit. You can reassign the point in pilot ground craft - your reaction is so juiced that you can afford to default, and you don't own a car, bike, or driver's license anyway.

Instead of internal smartlinks, get external, top-mounted ones. It'll save you some cash, especially on the LeMat '72. At resources E you need every penny.

IMO firearms skillgroup is a waste if you're not going to use more than one type of firearm. With the money you save from the external smartlinks get yourself a Winchester '24, Marlin 3468SS, or Marlin 3041 BL so you can engage targets from outside pistol range (only 60m!) while sticking with a thematically-appropriate lever action. And it won't be much less subtle than the katana.
If you're gonna go revolvers only, consider reassigning your skill points - put the skill groups in Firearms into Influence instead, and put those 6 points formerly in etiquette and 1 formerly in leadership into Pistols 6 [Revolvers]) )

Get some shotgun ammo for the LeMat. Don't let that center barrel go to waste! Also, get some LeMat speedloaders so you can fully load it in one complex action. You have 6 agi, so you can get away without speedloaders for your other revolvers.

Also, get a rank or two in Animal Handling and a couple of farmer-type knowledge skills if you want to really call yourself a cowgirl cowgirl.

It's hiiiiiiigh MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>
>>51073750
You aren't a minotaur
>>
>>51078182
Yeah, sorry, I updated the sheet by a bit since I posted that, including taking out piloting (I can boost it later if need be), toning down Running and boosting Gymnastics a ton). The extra point in Pistols is from Improved Ability, and I added specializations for the main combat part (namely revolvers and katanas). Also added some shotgun ammo for the Lemat (Why does Chummer not treat it as a Revolver, anyway?), and the speedloaders mentioned earlier.

>IMO firearms skillgroup is a waste if you're not going to use more than one type of firearm.
I actually do plan on her getting, at the least, a rifle of some kind. I'll think on the smartlink part so it can happen sooner, thanks.

>Also, get a rank or two in Animal Handling and a couple of farmer-type knowledge skills if you want to really call yourself a cowgirl cowgirl.

Note what kind of knowledge skill she has the most, and her alias. It's a reference to Faleena, the heroine in Marty Robbins' El Paso trilogy. She's a girl who really loves country music.

Is it my impression, or is 4th edition way more lethal than 5th?

From the lack of limits, to the fact that armor is much less effective, it seems like combat goes down way faster in 4th.

>>
>>51078705
Yes, though IRL only
>>
>>51078613
Just the opposite, the base damage of basically everything has been doubled, and the increased values of armour addons like mystic armour and cyberarmours are the same as they were in 4ed effectively halving their usefulness. Limits more the most part do not matter. The one saving grace on this front is that defence rolls actually now have a reasonable chance of success, making characters less vulnerable to chip damage. It's still possible to get enough armour to be nigh invulnerable in 5e, but it's a lot more work than it was in 4ed.
>>
>>51070228
I can dump magical theory, metaplanes, spirits and parazoology because I have arcana?
>>
>>51078806
>It's still possible to get enough armour to be nigh invulnerable in 5e, but it's a lot more work than it was in 4ed.

Are you sure? Encumbrance in 5e seems way too forgiving. Anyone can wear basically any armor regardless of Body or Strength, since encumbrance only comes into play when you're using armor bonuses.

> The extra point in Pistols is from Improved Ability
Oh, duh, right. I should have recognized that.

> She's a girl who really loves country music.
I picked up on the reference, and I get your concept now. Makes a lot of sense that someone who's been ostracised their whole life due to their cowlike mutations would relate a lot to lone wolf John Wayne Clint Eastwood types. It turns you into the stranger in town no matter what town you're in.

>build rigger character with extreme pollution allergy with help from Chummer

>no tools to help me generate a backstory
Help me out here /srg/. Why's an Algonkian-Manitou tribal rigging an Ares Roadmaster and a Steel Lynx in Seattle, instead of rigging agricultural drones back home on a farm near Calgary where he can actually breath?
>>
>>51078952
He gathered some debts with the wrong people because of medication he had to take for his allergy. They forced him to take jobs in Seattle and stranded him there. Now, he's trying to build up the funds to go back home.
>>
>>51078952

Clearly he's looking for someone. Someone who hurt him and his family.

This is a person who had a very distinctive car, something that you could pick out of a lineup in a heart beat.

you've followed him to seattle, tracked him down, but unfortunately, seattle is his home turf. easy to know that's where he is, but seattle is a big place and its been difficult to narrow it down from there. So, Algonkian is doing odd jobs here and there, getting whatever friends and connections he can, so that eventually, someone can find this bastard and you can run him down and turn him into gore beneath your tires.

>>
>>51078860
Worn armour alone will not prevent you taking damage, well maybe heavy millspec but they've made that utterly impractical. your base armour is going to porvide you about 12 dice or on average 4 hits. SMG and pistols are going to get about 8-9 damage on a glancing hit. a high body stat might account for another 1-2 damage. given that the average character has about 11 in their wound tracks it doesn't take that many hits to wear you down. And that's against enemies with crap weapons, you start coming up against people with assault rifles it's going to get ugly fast.
>>
>>51079105

Remember that allergies often develop overtime, too. You can have the worsening of your allergy as a parallel to the toll your drive for revenge and frustration at your lack of results have taken on you mentally.

Also, consider using the runner name Wheezy F. 'Cause Wheezy F baby, and the F is for rating 12F Drone guns.
>>
>>51079922
Was thinking of going with "Ghost Rigger" actually; something that makes me sound like a ghost from the past coming for revenge.
