>>

It does, a Combined Arms Detachment has space for 6 troops choices. You have 5 squads of Gants, so you can move one Tervigon into Troops since you have a 30 man troop termagant squad and fit your other tervigon and tyrant into the HQ slots.

Though I will say if you want a melee tyrant you should find the points to give it wings and a lashwhip/bonesword.

Besides, you won't actually lose any detail, or any detail that was necessary, and especially not any detail that was crucial to enjoying the battle scene by resizing.

I'm introducing two new players to the game, at either 750 or 1000 points. I'm taking Orks. They're taking Imperial factions of some sort, most likely Marines or Guard but possibly one of the specialty factions.

Since Orks are one of the few armies I don't play at all, how do I make an army that'll be fun for both of us? I know how to make an Ork army that'll get totally smashed without putting up a fight, but that's the easy part about Orks...

I posted in the old thread less than a minute before the new one got posted, so reposting:

I don't know what the best place is to ask, here or the Warmahordes general: I'm wanting to get into casting parts for wargaming (mostly terrain, but who knows), and I have a few questions:

Are there any good resources for me to get started with this?
Does anyone know what kind of plastic/resin other independent casters (i.e. not GW, Citadel, etc.) use?
Are there any pieces you'd specifically be looking for? Barricades, buildings, etc.?

Any help would be useful.

Almost all of it, actually. What I recognize:
>Skitarii Galvanic Rifles, Infiltrator heads (as orb-bot pelvises), Stubcarbines (orb-bots), Power Swords, and some of their legs; Onager Dunecrawler phosphor blaster (tri-skull) and I'm pretty sure the heavy cannon's off another Skitarii kit
>Cult Mechanicus Kataphron torso for tri-skull
>Tau Stealth Suit as the heavy weapon bearer's core
>Far right and background infantry use Skitarii Ranger arms
>The taller legs are definitely from a GW kit, but I can't place it

The only things I know for sure aren't GW are the ball torsos (of course) and the infantry heads/torso armor. The rest is GW or looks just like it. The skulls could be first or third party.

Back in my day tyranid units could buy Enchanced Senses and get +1 BS on basically any unit. If you wanted a shooting carnifex you gave it enhanced senses, if you didn't you left it without them.

Why isn't this a thing anymore? What happened to tyranid adaptability and being able to make units do what you want?
>>
>>50966885
bring back more biomorph options (can carnifexes even get T7 or 2+ saves anymore?)
reduce the cost of biomorph upgrades
give warriors/synapse creatures some way of surviving instant death
ways to bring gaunts back onto the table after death
let raveners deep-striking in make tunnels, a-la trygons
let units coming on from reserve through tunnels charge on the same turn
give tyrant guard W3
let genestealers buy flesh hooks

probably more things but I can't think too hard right now
>>
>>50966963

>>
>>50966437

I would allow it but that's defo a xeno senpai
>>
>>50966885
Make them more hordelike to match the fluff
Have an endless horde rule, basically the same as that one chaos/scions rule, where whenever a unit is killed, roll a 3+ and they're back in reserves. Push them as a ridiculous assault army, give them better WS on all of their tiny units and give them a longer charge. Make it so by turn one they're in the enemy's face, forcing everyone into combat before they've established their position on the board. Basically, make them get in there and stay in there.
>>
>>50966964

T7 needs to become a lot more common for nids, the last generation of big guys 4U had a T6, the new ones are so much bigger now and yet, here we are.

2+ would be nice, if it showed up more than once a codex, but I think they need some sort of inv or built in FnP on the new class of MCs
>>

>>50967048
When you run two squads of terminators and two squads of what count as vets, yes.
>>
>>50967034
That's why they're Leadership 10 and Stubborn, and a Lictor occasionally failing an IB Lurk test (which will only happen ~8% of the time) is actually fluffy as hell since they are behaviourally hard-wired to be cautious and patient in stalking their prey almost to a fault, and may sometimes hesitate another few seconds before striking just to be sure. Even then, by treating synapse creatures as being in range within 24" they'll rarely have that issue.
>>
>>50966437
Only if it's balanced without weights under the base.

Can anybody give me some more info on Imperial Orks?

I saw a comic that had an Ork Komissar leading a bunch of Orks with imperial gear. They called themselve "Da Emprahs Greenest" and now I suddenly have a raging hardon for Orks that revere the Emprah as a god.

"Dis Emprah gitz gots tah now a fing or two if dose 'umies been foightan dose beakies for so long"

"Why dont's we asks 'im?"

I also remember a story of a "Deff Wotch" kill team that disguised themselves as crudely made Space Marines to help out the Imperium of Man and saved the humans' hides multiple times, even preventing the end of Terra and talking to the Emprah himself.

Shit like that makes me rock hard.
>>
>>50967126
And yet almost every other unit in the book still has the same toughness stat today as it did in that one.

Warriors and Lictors should be T5 again, there's really no good reason why they shouldn't. If a marine on a fucking bike can be T5 a 12 foot tall bio-engineered monstrosity with double skeletal systems and interwoven kevlar mesh for muscle fibers sure as hell can.
>>
>>50967134
GW, like with any fucked up product it's the manufacturer that is responsible for replacements due to missing parts, just like with any kind of product. They may want a photo of the lot code printed on the box and to see a copy of your receipt.
>>
>>50967136
Lictors are supposed to have one of the largest special rule sections of almost any unit though, that's their thing. They are hyper specialized at what they do.

>>
>>50967165
>because they clearly weren't in TH, which is as canon as it gets
Canon or not, it doesn't really change the fact that some authors just do whatever. Chaos blessings aren't flat stat boosts. They do "stuff", but what "stuff" that is will change from book to book.

the 'zerks in traitor's hate were probably being written as [generic close combat space marines], because whoever wrote traitor's hate didn't give enough of a fuck to distinguish them from their opponents. In another book they may have superior speed, strength, wards, armour (in the olden times, the mark of khorne gave +1 to your armour save. Khorne Marines were rocking 2+ saves standard), or beneficial mutations.
>>
>>50967145

we can keep arguing, but neither of us is going to convince the other anon, so I will just agree to disagree.

Warriors I could see, only because they need it in game to make them viable. But as long as DP are only t5, I think a smaller creature can handle being not as tough.

>>50967152

I just see more is not always better, I like most of what you have and the whole synapse part just seems like extra that will not effect the game in any meaningful way 99% of the time.
>>
>>50967145
With lictors there's an argument to be made that in 7E they're intended to be fielded as a unit, whereas in 2E they were single models only at a much higher points cost so they are weaker individually to compensate.

Warriors however there is no excuse for, the unit size and points per model are exactly the same between those editions.

>With lictors there's an argument to be made that in 7E they're intended to be fielded as a unit, whereas in 2E they were single models only at a much higher points cost so they are weaker individually to compensate.
Yeah but I would say that whole argument is flawed because they SHOULDN'T have ever been designed to be cheaper, weaker, and in units, as that was a pretty blatant ploy to sell more models and does against the fluff of them typically working as lone operatives.

Furthermore, if Warriors are increased to T5, Lictors must be as well, since they're just highly specialized strains of Warriors (and possibly even larger?). They are essentially Genestealer Patriarchs which trade away the psychic element for increased stealth and special biomorphs - if those can be T5, so can Lictors. There's no sense in something that large not benefitting from the same Toughness increase over the smaller bugs.

How were they not distinguished from their enemies in TH? They were clearly shown as marines with excessive testosterone and zero discipline. While the Death Company hallucinated about the siege of Terra and were physically stronger, the Zerkers were more skilled and seemed to enjoy battle. The exception being Kharn who was even more fanatical while also being angry.

Also, Traitor's Hate was a campaign book by GW. By default it overrides anything from BL that contradicts it.

I've never played the game but I've been looking to getting into it. I'd like to build a close combat army maybe, either Salamanders or Legion of the Damned, because deep striking sounds fun.

Vulkan He'stan looks like a fun unit to have, and the Caestus Assault Ram, maybe that Dreadnought HQ the Salamanders can get Ashmantle.
And the Thunderfire cannon looks like a neat unit to have too.

Could something like that work out well? Deep striking, packing lots of fire and melta, giant mobile artillery gun with techmarine accompaniment, all that sounds like it could be really fun.

I said a few fun rules, not good rules

Ymgarls, parasite, reintroduction of the red terror by way of the mawlocs, venomthorpes.. the 5e book had some cute ideas that fell short. Then the 6e book took even those cute ideas away and left us with the bad rules on their own.

I dunno. The timing of the 6e nid book was odd enough that its total badness was probably linked to more than one person. That's when the chapterhouse bullshit was happening, after all.

if you've never played 40k don't start with Forgeworld. it's expensive, difficult to build, and you'll want to know what you're doing before you take on building and painting big pricey resin kits

but yeah, other than that, if you wanna do salamanders he'stan is great. thunderfire cannons aren't as popular in marine lists these days because they don't fit into their most powerful meta lists but they're still a great unit that can do a lot.

in general, if you wanna do salamanders read what they can do in the angels of death supplement, and then decide if you want to run that or just take them in a normal detachment. deep strike in general is the way to go with salamanders, though, so lots of drop pods are in your future if that's the army you like

Yeah, I was thinking the Forgeworld things looked expensive as fuck but they sure look cool.

Thunderfire cannons looks fun for being a long range solution to enhance an army dominated mostly by flame and melta, and it adds more shit to drop pod in.

I've had a deep love for drop pods ever since Dawn of War introduced me to the series, so I've always wanted to build an army with them in it. And Deep Striking looks like it could be a way to make up for lists that aren't as meta by being able to apply more versatile tactics.

>Are there rules for what happens if a drop pod lands on something?
there's a chaos formation that lets you squish things with a kharybdis, but other than that, no. the main benefit of a drop pod versus a normal deep strike is that if it scatters into a model or terrain it goes as far as it can and then stops; normally when that happens you get a mishap and have to roll on a table where most of the things that happen are horrible. drop pods can only mishap if the scatter throws them all the way off the board, and if you understand how the pod rules work you can usually place them in such a way that it's basically impossible for them to do that (since, again, they'll just scatter as far as they can before they hit something then just land there).

ashmantle's model is fucking cool as hell (and the rules/fluff for the guy that originally piloted it in the Horus Heresy books are even cooler) but fuck if that thing doesn't look like it'd be a bitch to paint. that's kind of the biggest drawback with salamanders in general - they're the legion of craftsmen and artificers, so you have to go a bit above and beyond when you're painting them or it doesn't look right. gotta be a salamander to play salamanders, basically.

It was off and on since the start and a lot more scattered, it just so happened that all the posts immediately after mine were solid Tyranid discussion.

Honestly I don't care, it was interesting to see people talk about Nids, seeing as I only know one person who plays Nids and she's a mute girl, so she doesn't talk about them much, really wasn't expecting much feedback on my uniformed questions at three in the morning anyway.

>>50967689
Yeah, I've really like the Salamanders, and I've been pretty interested in the modeling aspect of the game as much if not more than playing it, mainly because I love looking at the dioramas and such people set up at the game stores, and I like fussing over little details and trying to give personal touches to things when possible.

The only thing about making models is that it's a hard thing to practice without just doing it, and that could end up with a bunch of mediocre practice models laying around.
I have heard of one guy saying he painted plastic army men for practice before he started on his armies. Maybe I should try that.

And i mean swarms are highly disposable as they are only meant to beat down the enemy so that the rest can take away the biomass and remake them to take the next planet.

After leaving GW he started working for Blizzard, wrote all their Zerg fluff because everyone knows they're wannabe Tyranids. Gonna guess that the awesomeness that was Abathur in the SC2 campaign was thanks to him, while all the dumb shit with Kerrigan is because of Metzen.

He also wrote Battlefleet Gothic, and worked with Hawk Wargames to help design their new space combat game Dropfleet Commander.

By the time they obtain significant resources to put logos on they're ready to launch an uprising.

Also it's not like anyone would be likely to recognize their logo anyway since knowledge about the practices of xenos cults isn't exactly common. They may also use more innocuous logos at first like stylized spirals or images of a serpent encircling a planet etc.

I played eldar before they were cool, man. I got receipts from 2011/12 where I bought FW eldar shit.

Don't tell me they're the ezmode race they had like 11 fuckn years of mediocrity.
>>
>>50968764

they had 1 codex that was mediocre anon. the rest of their history they were riding high

Girls already think space monsters are cute, going out of your way to make it happen would ruin it.

When I was very young an older girl I knew thought all the zerg units were adorable.

Do it. Fuck winning. Buy the awesome tank, and you'll enjoy it regardless of the rules or your severely diminished bank account.
>>
>>50968773
I have never enjoyed assembling anything resin.
>>
So, White Dwarf in 6 days? Any chance we're getting any actual relevant new info, other than hopefully the Fall of Cadia release date.
>>
>>50968792

>>
>>50968801
Euurgh, "long spindly legs that warp as the slightest heat supporting a massive resin torso? Sure what could possibly go wrong"
>>
>>50968801
I just looked at the bio titan and it looks so cool. To bad its apparently a piece of shit
>>
>>50968828

It was more the 100 little spines that got to me.

He will be mounted on scenic base with a hidden rod to get around the legs problem.
>>
>>50968839

Yeah, he is not worth 1000 points, but I already had a harridan so slowly collecting the whole set.

Eldar had in total about 6 months of mediocrity in their entire life. Everything else has ranged from Good to Owners of the Cheese and Whine shop.

Every other army has had a brief time when they were kings of the hill, Guard had leafblower, Chaos had 3rd edition codex, Orks have really only gotten worse by comparison so they used to be good. Eldar are the opposite, they had their brief time running with the rest of the pack, but it was surrounded by great swathes of time with them as kings.
>>
>>50968655
Is it the 00's where you play?
>>
>>50968764
>mediocrity
>eldar
When have Eldar ever not been cheese?
>>
>>50967203
I say you hold the line Guardbro.
>>
>>50967896
Jokes on you i dont have riptide wings, just shitty fucking devilfishes full of breachers
>>
>>50969469
There was a brief time, I believe 5E, where they were simply very strong and not outright cheese.
>>
>>50967530
Small squads of 5 with 2 Meltas deep striking. Anything else and Veterans with Carapace are better because they can be objective secured but they can have an extra special weapon and a heavy weapon, and they can also have +1 cover with camo cloaks.
