>The legionary nearest to him was still alive. A World Eater, bisected at the waist, was dragging himself closer to where Ra kneeled. His armour was more red than white, signifying some unknown change within his treasonous Legion. ‘Blood,’ the warrior murmured through a shattered mouth. ‘I was there,’ Ra tried to growl at him, but the exhausted words were a snarling whisper. ‘I was there the day we saved your mongrel primarch from certain death.’ ‘Blood,’ the World Eater mumbled again. His helm had been crushed, savaging the skull and face within. His eyes were glazed, maddened, the pupils mere pinpricks. ‘If only we’d left him there.’ The Custodian laughed, feeling his reknitting bones and abused muscles stinging afresh with the squirted application of adrenal elixirs from inside his armour. ‘Blood…’ ‘If only we’d left him to die in those mountains.’ Ra was smiling now. ‘The one primarch who couldn’t conquer his world. The one primarch who lived as a slave. The one primarch who had to be saved from death.’ ‘Blood!’ The World Eater’s eyes resolved with the ghost of clarity. ‘Blood for the–’ A spear rammed through the World Eater’s spine, driven down between his shoulder blades. The power pack on his back shorted out and died. The warrior himself went into convulsions. Eyes that had so briefly cleared now rolled back into his broken head.

I've only just started getting into HH (and back into 30/40k for that matter), so I'm fairly rusty and inexperienced. From what I understand, if I do use a RoW it'll be Maru Skara. I might be shooting myself in the foot here, but I'm trying to keep it fluffy as a Loyalist force, so the Third Elite and Kakophoni are right out.
>>
How should I kit a contemptor to support Night Lords? I'm thinking maybe a pair of CCW with plasma blasters?
>>
>>50609473

That Caestus could use more yellow. Probably not what you want to hear, but it would be best on the parts where you've put the fists.

Also, KA, now that you're doing WE, have you looked at Poom's method on B&C? I think it's just basecoats and an oil wash/filter, plus a bit of blood and basing. Extremely simple, amazing results.
>>
>>50609818
woops, too late for the yellow now because those double fists aren't going nowhere. I guess maybe I could paint around them if I tape over them...

I'm following my own simplified version of the FW recipe and doing thin highlights of white instead of sponging the whole thing. I'm only a few steps in but so far I'm liking it a lot better than my last attempt. I'll check out Poom though.
>>
Tell me about Malcadors hhg, are they any good as heavy support choices?

I'm looking at my Dark Mechanicum army and thinking it needs more bodies. Planning on tacking this onto the Cybernetica bundle from FW.

3x20 Adsecularis with Carapace, RoPT and Revenant Alchemistry (125 each)
2 Lacarymerta Auxilia (65 each)

That's 505 pts, and gives me some decent tarpits that are functionally immune to bolter fire (equivalent to a 2+ save when within 6" of both Auxilia)
How should I kit out the Servitors? Was considering some Melta to pop nearby vehicles the Thralls can't hurt.
Plan was to convert the Thralls from Chaos Cultists and Skitarii parts, or possibly Guardsmen.

>>50609857

I'd avoid painting round them if I were you, here's probably another way of applying more colour if you wanted to. Perhaps have a look at what other people have done with the two-tone legions.

The advantage of an oil wash is that it takes hours to dry, so you can manipulate it into recesses, polish bits clean again with a little solvent and a brush or cloth, buff out streaks and blotches a bit. It allows you to get more control, and you can do away with any need to layer your base colour back on top of it, apart from perhaps a couple of highlights. Scale modellers use them a lot, and in a funny way the longer drying times makes them more idiot-proof than fast-drying acrylic washes.

The lacarymerta are probably a bit excessive. I run 2 thrall groups with the same set up and most of the time their ignored, especially when opponents realise they won't run away and they get both saves against bolters.

Horus, the Arch-Traitor is from a world called Cthon
Angron is the mega space dad of the army of frenzied berzerkers
Mortarion is the primarch of the Death Guard

Ultramarines
Vulturax
The primarch of the legion of blacksmiths is called Vulkan

With how often the red books are updated is there even a point in not just pirating them and printing out the pages you need?
>>
Is there a way to model just Chainswords and Bolters with Calth box? I'm trying to make a Terror Squad.
>>
>>50610962
>printing them out
That's just a waste of space, make your army list using the scan then print off a cheat sheet of your army.
>>50610995
Chain bayonets or the knives it comes with, do remember a chainsword has the same profile as a regular CCW
>>
>>50610995
Yyou can do knives and bolters which is the same in terms of rules.
>>
>>50611002
That's what I meant, I just transcribe the stats for the units, special rules, and weapons I need then print it out. It's a shame because I really would like a physical copy of the army list, but with how often they seem to release the books I don't see any reason to get one until the series is pretty much complete.
>>
>>50611002
>>50611004

Wait, sorry. The Prospero box is what I'm working with for the terror squads. The Calth box will be Raptors because of the harness.

Also, knives and bolters are the same? Do they still get the extra attack?
>>
>>50611021
they come with bolter and bolt pistol standard, so yeah they'll get the extra attack
>>
>>50611021
Close combat weapons can be anything thats not covered by power weapons, knives, machetes, chainswords are all the same so if you have spare knives from Calth you can shave off the buckle bit and put it in a hand, might make them look more slasher-y.
>>
>>50611066

Terror Squads only come with BP+CCW and can take a bolter for 2 points

>>50611108

BoP has plenty of chain swords, but the problem is that they don't have hands, and the pistols are holstered
>>
Can someone quickly post the rules for 'ARACHNUS HEAVY LASCANNON BATTERY' pls
>>
>>50610995
I've mixed in some of the double-sided chainswords and close combat arms from 40k csm tacticals and the thunder-edge chainswords from the prospero box with my calth marines. Then again I'm building mostly mk5 marines so you may not like having csm arms on your mk4 calth dudes if you're an armour purist

Well, my plan is to be able to use them as either 30k Legion or 40k CSM, so mixing armor isn't a problem. Fitting into 40k isn't a problem, it's fitting into 30k.

The only thing I'm set on is using the Calth torso's (MkIV?) for my Night Raptors because they have the harness, which looks good with the packs. For packs, I'll probably use pic related if I can't find Raptor Packs.

Hmm. For my money you've made the mistake of getting too many bolter marines for an army that needs jump troops. The standard half-squat space marine pose looks crap with a jump pack, like really awful. You need better legs.

Well... Derp. The Marines are honestly just both HH boxes. If I need better legs, then I might as well get raptors.

Is there any real problem using the raptor kit for 30k? I can swap out shit easily. MKIV torsos and heads, raptor arms and legs? Hell, I have a few hooded Dangle heads from the old upgrade kit lying around I could use.

How viable are normal dreadnaught talons in HH. I'm considering taking 3 normal dreadnaughts with graviton gun close combat arms for my World Eaters and just sending them charging forward to either eat infantry squads or draw fire from my Land Raiders.

Do you think they will do the job? At 155pts for walkers with 2 haywire shots each they seem quite viable for roaming the table and removing inconvenient threats.

But I don't play that often so I don't know the actual worth of the 465pt investment.
>>
>>50612761
Give them the AP3 flamer and they might be worth it.
>>
>>50612770
The what? Which one is an ap3 flamer?
>>
>>50612761
Not particularly as Cortus are only a slight increase in points but exponentially better
>>
>>50612761

They're kinda lackluster because for 10 points per model you can do the exact same thing with Cortus Contemptors and for another 10 points you can give them a chainfist for maximus armor penetration.

So it's not unviable by any means but it's sub optimal.

"Sub-optimal" as the other anon put it, but at the end of the day it's fluffy and "your dudes" to have Boxnauts out there rather than getting a cheapo contemptor, who does the same thing functionally with better stats and abilities.
Contemptor Cortuses converted to look crude and "Mark 5-ish" 110% make up for the fact that they currently displace boxnauts in the crunch.

>Have you heard of a nail file?

There's two pairs of MkVI legs in the Ravenwing kit. One has a robed statue carved into its left greave (so you'd have to fill it, not file it down) and the other pair has robes (which isn't a problem) and big Ravenwing winged claws on them that extend way out from the legs and actually become part of the robes, meaning that filing them off would require digging them out from the folds of the robe as well, plus fixing stuff you fuck up.

Both require a lot of work, which is why I was asking is there's a kit I'm missing. Especially since CSM bikers are pretty much gone from bits sites, so I can't even get their legs easily from anywhere.

Yeah.

All wounds are assigned by the owning player and casualties are removed at the choice of the owning player unless there is a rule specifying otherwise (or a challenge). This includes AOEs. No more removing closest models.

No more penalties for charging into rough terrain besides the reduced charge roll. Assault grenades are Range 6" assault 2 STR 4 AP5 weapons. Defensive grenades work as normal.

Flyers can start the game on the board if they start hovering and cannot change from hovering to zooming in the first turn.

Doubling the toughness inflicts 2 wounds instead of Instant Death. Eternal warriors are immune to this.

I don't actually mind how battle shock works in AoS but I wouldn't blame any one for not wanting it.

Are we having an Angron Storytime Thread!

Because while I've killed Eldar and Imperial Knights before, I've never done anything as dramatic as that.

The only shining moment for me was a massive mega battle a month ago in which the enemy team brought a Greentide of 360 Orks plus a Warboss and I volunteered to clear them out.

My teammates doubted I would do anything but slow them down but I insisted. They got mad when I unloaded my Spartan and charged my 20 man tactical Squad with an Apothecary and Angron into the hoard.

They claimed that I wasted our team's primarch on a giant tar pit. Even the ork player warned me that his hoard had never been killed entirely before in a single game and acknowledged that it was designed to just be a tarpit to hold the objective under them. I shrugged and asked if he ever faced World Eaters before, he said no.

All of them, friend and foe alike looked on with horror as Angron challenged the Warboss and the 6 Nobs all at once, since the GM ruled that the Green Tide was really 6 squads acting as one, he and the Ork player agreed to let me Lord of the Red Sands them all. Angron cleaned the nobs and a lucky 6 downed the warboss before the rest of my tacticals swung 100 hatred str 5 ap4 attacks onto the orks. It took 3 turns but eventually Angron, the squad sergeant, a single tactical marine and the apothecary walked out, just in time to walk to the objective and nab it before the game ended.

Its not as cool as yours, but many green skulls were piled that day. It felt cool, like something actually out of the Great Crusade. It was actually the objective that won our side the game so its probably the proudest moment in my gaming experience, even convinced a new player to build a world eater army.

I would very much go for that if I could figure out how, since most of the recasters apparently don't take new customers.
>>
>>50613395

Not really. Rubrics are 23pts a model and Scarabs are 40. Both have a hard cap of 24in range and their main weapons are bolters. Also Rubrics are Slow and Purposeful so they can't overwatch and 1A per model so they can't do crap in close combat.

In 30k they are much more effective since everything is more expensive from unit pts tax and everything has power armor but if you bring anything with an Armor Value they struggle alot.

Plastic breachers would save people a hell of a lot of money (inb4 "why would GW/FW do that?") and see them used more in the game. Honestly, we shouldn't have to buy from FW, with all that extra expense, to get troop units, particularly ones that are better used in large numbers.

A 20-man Ultramarine breacher squad from FW (using Mark IV plastic kits) would cost €160/£140, whereas if they were plastic kits, they'd cost half of that.

Taghmata, so my basic squads are largely Fearless and Stubborn, which should help. Explosions I have no problems causing.
I assume KC has some kind of super-Fear?

I don't have a huge amount of stuff, so this was the list I was planning on running.

Ordo Reductor 1500 (Matrix of Ruin)

Archmagos Reductor - Machinator, Cyber-senpai, Abeyant, Augury Scanner, Djin-Skein, 3 Occularis (300)

2x20 Thralls - Carapace, Fearless (100 each)

2x3 Thallax, Meltabombs, Destructor (165 each)

2x1 OR arty tank - Medusa Cannon, Machine Spirit (140 each)

3 Myrmidon Destructors with Graviton Imploders, in a Triaros with Blessed Autosimalcra (240 for the Myrmidons, 140 for Triaros)

Total 1500.

As far as I can tell, he has the Primarch, two groups of 10 guys in Rhinos, a big 20 Assault Marine unit, some fancy jump pack guys, some Plasma guys in a spiky pod, and some other stuff. Not sure about the exact specifics.

My list is pretty much all I have, I will be getting some Cybernetica soon, but for now I'm stuck with Thallax. I hope the artillery is as good as I hear it it, those Jump units mean I won't have much chance to use them.

So I'm mostly a modeler instead of a player these days.

Been building World Eaters, just painting fun looking units and such as I go along.

But for the first time an actual league is starting in my area and tomorrow I'm going to be playing. So I threw together a list based on what I had finished and painted.

Tell me what you think guys, does it look killy enough?

RoW: Pride of the Legion

HQ: Praetor in Terminator Armor with MC-chainfist and digital lasers 180pts

Elite: Apothecary 45pts

Elite: 2 Cortus Dreadnaughts 305pts
1 with assault cannon
1 with chain axe and close combat arm

Troops:
5 Terminators, 2 claws, 3 fists, autocannon 210pts

Troops: 5 Chain-Fist Terminators 225pts
Dedicated Spartan with the works 400pts

Troops: 9 man Veteran squad 148pts

Heavy: Land Raider Phobos w the works 275pts

Heavy: Predator with Lascannons 105pts

Heavy: Predator with Lascannons 105pts

Total 1998

Considering its looking like I'm fighting fellow beginners I'm not expecting anything really frightening. But I'm excited anyway.

I went Pride of the Legion mainly because I haven't finished my tactical squads fully yet, and the Cataphracti armor looks fantastic.

I'll throw up a picture later tonight when its all put together, I'm making finishing touchups this evening.

Note that if you want a maximum-dreadnought army, you're better off not using the Fury of the Ancients rite of war. You'll have to get an HQ and two cheapo Troops squads, but it's better than losing a million victory points each game.

Mortis boxdreads are fine too; they usually hang back and don't necessarily need the Contemptor's shielding.

It's assault-oriented boxdreads that don't make sense, due to the existence of the Cortus.
>>
So reading through the book more, is there any reason I shouldn't give each of my compulsory Terror Squads 10 Volkite Chargers? That kinda seems really good.
>>
>>50615863
Jipped? You started an army knowing there was no primarch model and you feel jipped? Give me a break… but don’t worry, it’ll be out by the time you grow up. FW’s only been releasing them when they get personally involved in combat in of their black books. The unreleased primarchs haven’t yet.

>>50615878
The FAQ means assault squads with meltabombs aren’t as scary to vehicles or monstrous creatures. The plasma guys in a Dreadclaw will be a major threat and you’ll have a hard time avoiding one turn of shooting. I’d avoid spreading your units out so you can respond quickly – but not so much that Curze can jump from assault to assault. Try to outnumber his units in assaults (the Thallax should count as multiple models, assuming they’re bulky).

>>50616848
No, your instincts are right.

Heh, so that does work on compound words.
Not too worried about the fear thing, since half my guys are Fearless or vehicles, but I am NOT letting him get near my Myrmidons if possible.

>>50616850

Right, so I need to get some good use out of those Medusae or one is going to be obliterated by plasma quick sharp.
Thallax are V. Bulky, so I only need one kill on a 10 man squad to deal with that outnumber bonus, and the Thrall units should be able to join any losing combats and pin down his depleted squads. If I manage to deal with KCs retinue I might be able to tarpit him for a bit.

Myrmiodns should do a good job on those, at least. Maybe I'll drop Destructor on one of the Thallax and buy them Irrad Engines, AP3 fleshbane torrent can put the hurt on assault blobs.

Really? Because I play 40k but I've started collecting mk III and IV marines because they're so much nicer than 6/7. I was hoping to give my Ravenwing a shot when DA gets a full 30k release, but if there was a real 30k greenwing I'd happily bring them. Do you know the book/pics of 30k Greenwing?

They’re not official pics, just what people have painted. Basically black armor with green/white checkers on kneepads or shoulder pauldrons.

It could be a long time before FW covers late-Heresy Dark Angels and tells us exactly when they went green.

Now that meltabombs are limited in “throws” per turn, NL probably need dreads, tanks, or heavy support squads for anti-tank.

And I wouldn’t give all your terror squads volkites. A squad that uses them will do a lot of damage but be very vulnerable the next turn, so have another squad (without volkite chargers) charge the enemy and prevent them from shooting back next turn.

I had some trouble with the black. Thinned it a little too much and it pooled in the corners. I was rushing to paint this so I didn't pay it much mind. Also I'm too lazy to remove the mold lines on models, especially for rank and file guys like this.

On a side note the grey highlight on the gun will be toned down in later versions. I just noticed how bright it is.

>>
>>50617611
Good luck painting the rest! I've painted a lot of black in building my ravenwing, and I prefer to use a very thinned layer of black (since the primer is presumably black and you just need the black paint to get the right finish) and then just make sure it gets spread very evenly.
>>
>>50613277
I got panned for being a ten year old retard last time I said this but I'd drastically streamline and simplify the rules, strip out challenges, the psychic phase, fleet on everyone and make it the Eldar thing again, de-table as much of it as possible, drastically reduce model counts and eliminate turn limits or increase them drastically. 40K currently has the most overly complex, fiddly and convoluted ruleset of any tabletop game I've ever played and for no real reason, there isn't anything it does that other games don't do with 20% of the rules.
>>
>>50617649
It's a little better than that, imo. I'm used to not seeing any highlighting at all on IW.

To be fair, doing a 'passable' IW paintjob is like painting Necrons. Primer, metal, some trimmings, and you're done. It is above the standard lazy IW paintjob, that's for sure, especially for a quickie.

If you tone it down, might be worth only doing it a smidge. Camera's tend to overblow whites and other light colors if they're on a dark background that you otherwise wouldn't notice normally. All of these little white specks on my first EC marine are un-noticeable in person, but they show up incredibly bright in picture. If you think it looks fine in person, it looks fine.

I think the game can be sped up a lot already simply by making individual model placement waaay less crucial. For example :
>change all blast/template weapons into weapons that do a random amount of hits
>Fuck True Line Of Sight, go back to something more abstract and quick to resolve (seriously, why do we have to peer over every single model that's firing each shooting phase)

Then write the rules in such a way that it is actually clear what the hell they're trying to say, and cut down all the random-roll-to-roll-on-random-result-table-to-have-a-random-roll

How good are Vorax?
I kind of want some awesome bugbots since I5 RIP AND TEAR is awesome, and a unit of 3 is fairly cheap, but would they live that long?
I can mathhammer performance against anything, but do they ever reach combat for my fellow Admechbros?
>>
>>50618319
Yeah, removing TLOS, removing awkward models and possibly the templates (though I have a lot of affection for pie plates) along with toning the tables and the sheer number of special rules down would help a lot. More of their rules should say what the thing does rather than link to another rule.

Peronally I'd rather go further and strip out the random psychic powers, warlord rules and turn them back into essentially wargear. The psychic phase is cluttered considering how much stuff doesn't really happen there and so on. Vehicles should be more mobile, snapshots shouldn't be a thing, grenades don't need a profile considering they're never used outside of their combat buff, basically I want much, much quicker turns so you can get more turns and so manoeuvre and plan a bit more.

Then again I know I want an incredibly simple ruleset and that most people probably like a little more in the way of options.
>>
>>50613277
>>50618319

Honestly, I think it really just needs the fat cut out and to be streamlined. There's so many different stats, phases, qualities, traits, conditions, wargear, and numbers that you can easily get lost in the details, especially when everything is scattered across shelves worth of books and supplements. Yeah, I know it's how 40k has always done it, but they're piling more and more and more onto a nearly 30 year-old system that is grinding under its own weight.

One of the reasons I haven't gotten back into the game is because of how dense everything has gotten (with accompanying power creep). Unless I resorted to netlisting, I'd get floored by current players because I'd simply have no idea where to even start.

I'd start with a very simple ruleset and keep complications to the codex releases. That way you'd have very fast rules and each player would only have their armies optional rules to track. I'd also like AoS/Warmachine style unit entries with attacks listed for stuff that allows it, rather than having to notice your dread has 'Hammer of Wrath' and go find out what that means just list its stomp attack in its profile as a weapon.

What I mean by less rules is take that big list that says fleshbane, rending, shred and so on and just rip it in half. Most of those rules do not need to exist, they do nothing for the feel of the weapons and just mean you have to cross reference rules against rules. It feels like playing D&D at the moment and there's a reason WOTC make spell cards for D&D.

I’m a huge fan of Epic Armageddon, which has a small number of universal special rules and very, very few non-universal ones. It also has relatively long movement distances. More movement is great because it means deployment isn’t quite as crucial – I feel like a lot of 40k/30k games are on rails once the first turn starts. You don’t have much time or space to adjust your initial plan.

Years ago, GW’s designers said younger audiences are really into figuring out interactions between special rules. You can see it in M:tG, but also in all the special rules 40k units have. Older players seem to be more into positioning and maneuver, and they deliberately designed 40k and Epic for one and the other. That might mean it’s impossible for a game to make everybody happy.

>>50619074
Yeah, I liked the look of those too, but they seem so fragile in comparison. I do like I5 AP2, though. I see a lot of Red Butchers being thrown at my HQ units, that should put him off that plan. With Scoria's buff that's 3 or 4 dead butchers before they even get to swing, and if he wants to throw 10 at me, be my guest.

Do I take the Irrad Cleansers on the Vorax? Looks like a better option for what I would be fighting, honestly, but expensive.

Oh wow. I thought they were 2H like Relic blades. That's quite the option, actually.

It looks like he can swap the Pistol and CCW separately, so I can do Claw/Blade. It's 45pts, but I can do it. However, he can't be in TA for it. Termies have to drop the PA for a melee, Combi for a CW/VC, or both for claws.

I guess that answers the armor question lol
