I'm currently assembling my Night lords for 40k, but I'm modelling them so I can also use them in 30k.

I need another set of terminators, and I currently have one set of 5 Cataphractii and one set of 5 Tartaros. Which pattern is more fitting for a Night Lords legion? I'm leaning towards Tartaros because they can sweep.

>>
Just finished Thousand Sons. Breddy good imo, i know the black library stuff is....controversial on here but once i forced myself through the first few chapters (muh enumerations) i enjoyed it more than Prospero Burns.

Do we ever find out what happens to the chubby psychic and his fag-hag friends after they get off world? Their story kinda ends when the spess wolves show up but it doesn't mention them being blown up
>>
>>50594627
Catapractii are both easier to maintain and more brutal. If you're night lords then the entire rest of your army can sweep advance and you'll want the termies to take as much punishment as they need to on behalf of your assault/terror/night raptor squads. Besides, if you deep strike them they can't charge that turn anyway. What good is a sweeping advance going to get you if the squad is dead before they get there anyway?
>>
>>50594627
I'd go with cataphractii just because it looks more brutal, and so I think it fits night lords more. Also, if you're teleporting them in, it's slightly more survivable for the turn they have to stand around like lemons.
>>
>>50594732
I think they talk to Dorn or something, also which edition, as the latest ones really bulk out the numbers
>>
>>50594732
Random question but did you buy the book recently? Theres supposed to be changes in the 2014 edition that could be interesting but I cant be fucked buying a book I've already bought
>>
>>50594739
>>50594748

That makes sense, and I do plan on teleporting them in because why the hell not, right? Better have the hefty save, though I will still have the 5 Tartaros to use regardless.

Seeing as you both agree that the Cataphractii also looks more fitting, which I agree too, then I guess I'll end up with 10 Cataphractii and 5 Tartaros. Thanks!

Also, since FW doesn't sell jump packs, which 3rd party packs look best for Night Talons? The MiniMax? Which armor do I use with it, MkIII or MkIV?

>>50600771
Kind of, but nork's got the ability to bypass the test to jump into ongoing challenges and lets characters in his unit auto-pass look out sirs.

Which honestly isn't important at all in the militia army because orders aren't a thing, but it's still pretty cool. No one seems to remember glorious intervention when their killy characters get stonewalled.
>>

Indeed it does. Silly me.

Also, why not axes? S7 AP2 is way better than S8 AP4 in a game full of Marines. I opted for axes because of that. Abhuman Helots to boot and they're S6 T6 base.
>>
>>50601206
Warrior elite. It's not great, but you have to take that for the opertii RoW (which is what gives them implacable advance and infiltrate).

Clubs are so they can act as ad-hoc tank/dreadnought busters, which is what's going to be going after them more often than not. The force commander will be packing a melta bomb and iron halo as to hopefully keep them alive against any S10.

Speaking of Milita and Cults, I want to ally some tarpits in to my Legio Cybernetica, but I'm not too familliar with the army list. I do want that Cyber-Augmented provenance for Sworn Brothers, though. Can anyone point me to a good second Provenance and some decent units? I do want them to be good at tarpitting, so some LD buff might be nice.

My army is Traitors normally, if that has any bearing on which you can pick.

Sure. If you have Abhuman Helots, you'd be T6 and laugh at ID through double Str., but then you'd lose the Strength bonus from Gene-Crafted.
>>
>>50601750
Oh, right on. Yeah if you didn't have to think about ID axes would be the way to go.

I don't think I'd want to play standard militia after tasting infiltrating militia, though. I've even got an excuse to do up three sentinels now, since they fit in the allied detachment and all the other options are fucking awful.
>>
>>50601798
I'm just working on a small (1000pts.) Militia detachment as some thralls/serfs for my SW. Grenadiers with bolters and plasma guns as Troops (modeled somewhat like old Wolf Scouts) and making some Wulfen into Ogryns with big crude axes and such. Power Armoured force commander's gonna join them with a master-crafted power fist. Distrusted Allies from Abhuman Helots doesn't bother since Militia as Distrusted with SW already.

I've been planning a proper Army army at some point (been wanting to make 30k Army since like 3e), but I'll wait and see if they get better rules in the future. Right now we just got super elite SA and PDF Militia.
>>
>>50601925
Yeah, the SA aren't too interesting either, which is a shame.
>>
>>50601996
They'd be far more interesting as a regiment type. Like if they represented void troops of the Imperial Army, rather than the super-elite better than everyone else top tier. FW has some need to make everything they make the best of the best. Look at Tartaros armour. It's the best terminator suit of them all. Or the Deimos rhino, which is better than Mars. Contemptor is better than Castaferrum.
>>
>>50601615
I guess so. Bought all 64 dice for $50 from someone on a Facebook group. Otherwise I couldn't imagine paying full FW price for it.

Xana colours, a slightly darker version of the House Malinax scheme for the "organic" forces (including Thallax, Reductor troops, Thralls etc.) and vehicles, Taghmata Scoria brass for the Cybernetica, both broken up with dried-blood colour armour panels/one shoulder pad to vary the scheme and provide a good place to put white insignia or decals.

>>
>>50602557

>>
>>50602656
See anon, this post is much better than the original!
I will make you a good contributor yet.
>>
>>50596619
The contrast between the teal and the black is too strong, and that means it is difficult to make out the highlights you've done on the black armour. Either go back and do one more highlight of the black (corners, really hard edges etc) or tone down the blue.
I would also apply whatever wash you used on the blue in a thinner coat next time, as it has pooled on this model to make the finish uneven. Adding some highlights to the metal parts would go a long way as well.

Hell no, just get the most recent red book, there should be a download in the OP. Legiones Astartes Age of Darkness Army List. That's your general Legion rules, and what you have to use right now if you run Sons.
In Feb book 7 will drop, either buy that or wait for someone to upload a photo rip.

If you're gonna start building your army now, just get basic units. Running Sons with any kind of fluffiness right now comes down to using a Librarian Consul, who can't be your primary HQ choice.
If you're really into it, the new 40K Rubric and Termies are compatible with Heresy era armours, so you can start converting some sweet troops.

>The legionary nearest to him was still alive. A World Eater, bisected at the waist, was dragging himself closer to where Ra kneeled. His armour was more red than white, signifying some unknown change within his treasonous Legion. ‘Blood,’ the warrior murmured through a shattered mouth. ‘I was there,’ Ra tried to growl at him, but the exhausted words were a snarling whisper. ‘I was there the day we saved your mongrel primarch from certain death.’ ‘Blood,’ the World Eater mumbled again. His helm had been crushed, savaging the skull and face within. His eyes were glazed, maddened, the pupils mere pinpricks. ‘If only we’d left him there.’ The Custodian laughed, feeling his reknitting bones and abused muscles stinging afresh with the squirted application of adrenal elixirs from inside his armour. ‘Blood…’ ‘If only we’d left him to die in those mountains.’ Ra was smiling now. ‘The one primarch who couldn’t conquer his world. The one primarch who lived as a slave. The one primarch who had to be saved from death.’ ‘Blood!’ The World Eater’s eyes resolved with the ghost of clarity. ‘Blood for the–’ A spear rammed through the World Eater’s spine, driven down between his shoulder blades. The power pack on his back shorted out and died. The warrior himself went into convulsions. Eyes that had so briefly cleared now rolled back into his broken head.

Holy shit lol.

>Languages change over time. In English, knelt is slowly giving way to kneeled. This trend is not limited to this verb; there are a few others that are losing their irregular past tense forms―or gaining an -ed form, at least. If knelt were a caterpillar making a transition into a butterfly, it would still be in the cocoon. Right now, both forms exist. They are both still acceptable. In American and British English, knelt is still the most common of the two. British English speakers don’t use kneeled as much as Americans do, but it is also gaining in popularity in that version of English. Though both forms are correct, one or the other may look more natural to you based on what you learned in school or where you live.

If you're going with big Levy squads, take Cyber-Augmented and Feral Warriors for the +1 to WS, and if you want you can go further and purchase an extra attack.

Levy squads can buy discipline collars for +10 flat regardless of Provenance. That gets you the Stubborn USR at the small risk of killing the entire squad if you roll two 6ses on a morale check.

You *could* get Alchem-Jackers instead of Feral Warriors for a weaker version of Stubborn and the benefit of getting pinned rather than falling back (and Rage for additional cost), but that's at the cost of staying at WS2 with an extra attack only on the charge.

Those other 80k marines will probably be spread across the system of Prospero and FW will have an entire campaign of the Wolves marching through it as some decide to fight back and defend their planets/stations and in the end they will break and run as Magnus takes Prospero into the warp, that allows for loyalist 1ksons and Blackshield sons like we've already been shown in the HH books.

All languages are interesting if you care to know the ethymology of the words, but I like romance languages more.
Fun fact, if you know both english and spanish you can understand written portuguese, at least the brazilian version. Well, maybe because it started as a variation of spanish, whatever
>>

You dont need English to understand Brazilian portuguese, just Spanish, I mean I speak spanish and I could understand most things in Brazil and I honestly know nothing of Portuguese.

Portuguese is just a really old version of Spanish that grew into its own thing, there's ton of similarities between medieval spanish and portuguese.
>>
>>50604853

That image is completely wrong. GH only makes the F sound if it's the end of a word or follows ou such as in ough. "Wimmen" is not the proper pronunciation of the word "women". And "ti" only makes the "sh" sound if it's "tio" such as in "nation".

Well with how much the Thousand Sons their hierachy and military structure was designed around psykers, I guess they gave them some time to reorganise.

Which one? Or you mean Goldie's lore, which ignores all the sources that aren't BL, no matter how more recent they are. I seem to recall BoP using the Collected Visions version, which had the Emperor give the order.

Either way, he still sent the Wolves in numbers, with Custodes and Sisters in tow to Prospero. You really think the Emperor thought Magnus would just bend over without a fight?

>Its not really keeping it hidden if noone bothered to check is it?

Emps simply should have recalled the TS to Terra and force Magnus to sit in the corner why he worked. If your not going to let the psychic legion be psykers you have to give them something to do, or keep an eye on them. Doing neither is just retarded.

>>50607503
>Which one? Or you mean Goldie's lore
Here the Wrath of Magnus intro
>The Emperor, enraged, did not listen, and banished Magnus from his sight. He then ordered Horus to unleash the Space Wolves, capture Magnus and bring him to Terra in chains. Horus instead told Russ to bring utter devastation to the Thousand Sons.
Its changed again and Russ once again gets another free pass. This time he never even gets orders from the Emperor, nevermind this makes no sense with the Custodes and SoS going with him but ok.

>You really think the Emperor thought Magnus would just bend over without a fight?
He actually did though. If Russ didnt open negotiation by destroying eveything that wasnt under a kine shield he didnt know about Prospero Maybe things would have been fine. Besides it was Ahriman who defended Prospero not Magnus.

>cults were secret to even many on Prospero.
Remember all those SW units that were sent out all over the galaxy or the custodes that went with Lorgar? Why didnt any of them go with Magnus?

>Like father like son, eh?

>>
>>50607503
>Pretty sure all those cults were secret to even many on Prospero.

Not in the old fluff, atleast. Prospero had alot of human psykers that taught Magnus we he first landed. Also other Legions sent their librarians to train with the TS, since they knew shit.
>>
>>50607633
>nevermind this makes no sense with the Custodes and SoS going with him but ok.

Probably the Emperor with his bullshit "need to know" policies.

For this scenario he probably gave orders to defer to Russ's Judgement and assist them in anyway possible. AND DON'T SPILL THE BEANS ABOUT THE WEBWAY.
>>
Is there any fluff reason why Ahriman is not in terminator armor?

>Russ once again gets another free pass. This time he never even gets orders from the Emperor

Doesn't that pretty much mean Horus gave a different order from what the Emperor gave? With that logic the Custodes and SoS got a free pass as well, since they too didn't do what the Emperor told them to do. In the FW version Russ was given orders and then Horus convinced him to ignore those orders. If Emperor gives the orders to Horus, who instead gives false orders, how is Russ responsible for following the orders of the man who speaks with the Emperor's authority?

How Horus was gonna explain that he's not a traitor and cover his tracks by destroying Magnus when he deliberately disobeyed the Emperor's orders, I don't know. This is the problem when authors try to be more clever than they are. Should have just kept the version where Emperor gave the order to destroy Magnus and his legion.

>He actually did though.

You can't say that and when go "maybe things would have been fine." Unless you have proof that Magnus would have been ready to come in chains and his legion was cool with it, hostilities were to be expected. Also, Russ wasn't ordered to bring Magnus to justice, he was ordered to kill Magnus, so how is he blamed for following direct orders without knowledge of the actual orders Horus received?

>Remember all those SW units that were sent out all over the galaxy or the custodes that went with Lorgar? Why didnt any of them go with Magnus?

How does this make Prospero's warp cults common knowledge?

>>50607642
It's not secret TS have psykers. It is, however, not public knowledge even in the old fluff that they practice sorcery. It's not just your bog standard librarian stuff, it's deep warp magic stuff. That's why the Emperor was so shocked.

Without a doubt. Both this and Nikaea should be retconned back to their old stories. At this stage about half the legions broke the edict. Fucking BL.

>With that logic the Custodes and SoS got a free pass as well, since they too didn't do what the Emperor told them to do.
This is my problem with the new version of events as it makes no sense for them to be sent off without orders. Valdor was sent for gods sake. He should have known better.

> Unless you have proof that Magnus would have been ready to come in chains
Going of ATS fluff yes he was. Magnus did not fight at all on Prospero until literally the last moments. Him and his legion were offered no quarter by Russ and he couldnt handle that in the end.

>Also, Russ wasn't ordered to bring Magnus to justice, he was ordered to kill Magnus
Depends on which if the 15 different versions were going with doesnt it?

By the way if he just does what hes told by Horus why isnt it ever brought up by anyone when he comes back empty handed? should the Emperor be like wheres Magnus? Wait you did what to Prospero?

>How does this make Prospero's warp cults common knowledge?
Because the Librarius program was based of the teaching of Prospero and their cults. Along with their legion command structure so anyone who ever fought with them got to see that. Prospero also took in all who wish to learn and several time offer to let primarch come and study at Prospero.
