FUCK. On the one hand I really don't give a shit about any of them but the GF option seems comfy and relaxing at least. But Anime always fucks up my favourite archetype with "character development" so I'm likely to just be annoyed forever... fuck it, Dark war anime. Let's be an edgy fuck with a cursed sword or something.

The year is coming to an end. How about we gather all big and notable CYOAs that were made this year and make a poll to decide which one of them was the best? Author of the winning CYOA will get the "Autistic Choice Picture of 2016" award.

Sure, I can try to organize this whole thing, but nominating CYOAs for the poll is ultimately a collective job. If anons don't want to do anything, it means nothing.
There's one month until the end of year, it would take fittingly this much time to prepare everything. New CYOAs can be made in time for the poll to be added there too.

Might as well be a Goddess. Has most possibilities.

What's missing?
>>
>>50512323
>Might as well be a Goddess. Has most possibilities.
God/dess is like getting the perfect kitchen and ingredients but no training. Technically you can make anything you want, but in practice you're going to make simple things or ruin a lot of dishes trying to teach yourself how to cook them. Meanwhile, the other choices are like going to a five-star restaurant - you might not get exactly what you want, but it's going to be close, and it's going to be delicious.

>>50512110
With that in mind, I'd pick Dream World. Living in my ideal world sounds amazing, even if there are challenges to face.

3x points
75!
Random alotment.

12 forms of immortality, d12 determines.
Perks will be straight up RNG with 1 to whatever total value the related perks and bonus perks total up to. (24 bonus+specific perks)

Rolled a 7 for...
Observer (6/6) which has 3 perks for 1 to 27 range.
Excitement Detector (5/11)
Bound Item (3/14) Probably going to bind on objects and things that can detect me even if I can't interact directly that might give some indirect feedback options. Robots, magic stones, sensitive astronomical observation, etc.
One-Time Shapeshift (3/17). No one else sees this so w/e I'll probably go outlandish and ostentatious.
Death's Number (5/22) Oh good, cool company.
Always Something to Do (12/34) Already pretty much had this but okay thanks.
Your Biggest Fan (3/37) Going to reserve judgement on this one but Kojima seems to be keeping things interesting lately.
Elemental Attack (5/42) Wow, I've got blow-up-a-bus power originating from a single point in the universe. Sure hope there's an elemental effect of some sort that's faster than light or else this is going to be Real situational along with Never Interacting With The Universe.
The Challenge (-5/37) OF course I need to destroy most of humanity without doing anything to it, why wouldn't that make sense. Maybe if I immortalize some artistically bankrupt jerk instead everyone will do the job for me.
Possession (8/45) Well, this is a step in the right direction at least. Can't Do stuff but I can Sense stuff....about the same as I could before.
Invisibility (7/52)....Does the "Still be heard, smelled felt, etc. Your clothes and held items become invisible with you" result in Returning tangibility so long as I can't be seen? That might make things a little easier.
Training (1/53). I want to be a master of staying alive. Even if I fuckup the whole challenge and get stuck back here I'm keeping the new body and the mastery and I mean to stick around despite mortality.

"If taken with The Challenge, then your chaenge is changed to saving Earth from this threat."
Fuck. Okay so I have an artist and maybe 3 objects to stave off a civ-ending threat. Sure dude.
The Ultimate Question (4/58) "How can I Succeed in my Challenge despite my impediments and circumstances?"
If the answer is I can't then frig it I'm going to chill 500 years and not stress this until I get to come out and deal with it myself as a mostly normie.
That's Normal (4/62) Small Favors. I'll take it.
Empire (5/67). I don't know how, but I can hope that this works out as advertised at least through some unknown loophole.
Precognition (72/75) I can now see everything as it is now nd 5 minutes from now. Small scale LaPlace demon, getting somewhere now.

Almost nothing else costs 3 points so I'm cashing in for a bitching pizza with death. This is going to be a wild 5 centuries. Might elect to fail anyway seeing as I can time travel anyway, just set things up in my favor if I can wriggle around the limitations.

Probably just going to fuck up and get unboosted in 500 years but hey, worth a shot.

Are you forgetting the eternal wanking/arguing over the Dyson Sphere choices?

We pretty much destroyed 2 weeks worth of threads bitching about it, like the Culling. Some anon even made a 'fan' edition with the option entirely removed.
>>
>>50512131
Hey, two questions real quick...

So, when picking Fate, you still have to spend points to buy the roll, right?

Second, is the Fiend also included in being exempt from Painless? How can someone feel pain if they can't be harmed?
>>
>>50513630
Fan edition was the best edition.

I particularly loved the "dwarf" planet option.
>>
>>50513646
Pain isn't being harmed. Pain is a reaction to being harmed. You can inflict pain without harm.

Just imagine like having an eternal ache in your entire body.
>>
>>50513656
So like, my body won't take any actual damage from something, like a bullet wouldn't pierce through me, but it would feel like I had gotten poked really, REALLY hard?

I might have to buy painless...
>>
>>50511392
>>Leanne Church best gril
Hell yeah! I call dibs, anon. Hands off my waifu!
>>
>>50513675
I believe so.

Impacts would hurt pretty bad, but most of the persistent kind of pain is internal...which is almost impossible for the Fiend to suffer, so you'd just have to deal with sudden bursts.
>>

I'm disappointed Boros was the best option; she's so boring. Selesnya, Izzet, and Simic are decent runners-up. Izzet might be higher up if I knew exactly what her Experimentation fetish was (like, literal engineering experiments???).
>>
>>50513729
Not as many unfeeling uncaring pleasure induction machines, though.
>>
>>50513698
It's also odd that it mentioned "cannot be harmed" AND being indestructible, like, I figured those were both practically the same thing. Near as I can tell, it just means I will both not develop any diseases or cancers that would harm me in any way, and I cannot be physically damaged in any way, if it doesn't actually make me painless.

On a side note, what would happen if I went into space? Would I suffer from being in a vacuum, or just feel a minor discomfort (or sanity destroying pain?)

That's not really a fetish through, that's just being open to new experiences. Plus they made a big deal about her being an engineering student, always studying and tinkering.

In her case the fetish is trying new things, not just being open to new experiences. She wants to actively seek out new sexual fetishes rather than sticking to what she knows she likes.

Slaanesh sex doesn't really interest me, past a certain point.

I feel like Traveller is older than a year, considering the first post on Highlander's blog is about how they lost everything and basically had to recreate it from memory. I don't recall ever seeing a 1.0 version. But if you're counting remakes, yeah, I guess it could get in.

People also seemed to like Altering History (I didn't really but it did get an extremely short RP) and Universal War. There's plenty of other CYOAs made this year. maybe not a lot of extensive CYOAs, but others indeed.

What are the restrictions on remakes? Say SDA somehow finishes the new version of Battlemage before the year ends. Could someone nominate it, or would it be too similar to the older versions to qualify? What if it was more of a remaster than a remake, keeping similar themes and ideas but expanding them outward? Is it still just "Oh, this is just the new version of Battlemage" even though it's very different from the others?
>>
>>50514379

It's not related to the Princess (right?). You can check literally right in this thread >>50511319

On the lewder side of things, which should maybe be its own category, Age Regression was ridiculously involved and probably took a ton of work. It'd be a strong candidate for best overall new even without the lewd separation. Serendipity is another strong contender there, though it's more of a half-lewd CYOA.

a) Are you really such an angry fuck that you consider anger to be a fundamental and crucial part of you?

a) What is righteous anger? Are you such a timid fuck that you consider anger to be inherently bad?
b) Comparing anger to a tumor is ridiculous.
c) Sure, but I don't discount it wholly because some aspects are bad. Overcoming those aspects and controlling them is a challenge, but a worthy one
>>
>>50514682
Anger serves an essential purpose in the human complex of emotions; only a child, or an dysfunctional angry fuck who only sees how anger has ruined their lives, could fail to understand this.

Joking. More seriously, it's a redundancy. A thing tackled onto something that you can be just fine without.
b) You'll have to forgive my hyperbole in this case (not like you have a choice), but the essence of the comparison is true.
c) Neither do I discount it wholly. I'm completely fine with getting rid of bad or unneeded aspects though. And getting rid of one part is not the same as throwing out the whole thing.

Anger is the mind's call to action; without it, other kinds of displeasure basically range from resignation to despair.

The funny thing that no one has really pointed out is that the CYOA talking about being "truly angry", setting up No True Scotsman quite nicely. Oh, an aspect of anger is useful, beneficial, or necessary? It's not TRUE anger.

I understand that true creativity is often an exercise in well-executed plagiarism, but this isn't an example of that. This is wholesale robbery, pillaging settings for their elements and slapping a matching paint scheme on them so they 'fit'.

Fun for a romp al la Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, but I simply cannot take this CYOA seriously in any way.

It still takes 15 years of diligent training to get to that level. Maybe more depending on how well you naturally retain knowledge.

The soul thing becomes questionable, but more importantly, with ai uplift you're replaceable. Considering that you're already completely dependent and trapped in ship, its better to not have to worry she'll just get rid of you and replace you if you ever piss her off enough.
>>
>>50519133
>The soul thing becomes questionable,
How so? Do you lose some of your soul when you browse internets? Same thing.

>Considering that you're already completely dependent and trapped in ship, its better to not have to worry she'll just get rid of you and replace you if you ever piss her off enough.

First, replaceability was not part of your original query.
Second, why would she replace you? You are exactly as she wanted you. You're her "Perfect Husbando CYOA" result made flesh.

because in AI uplift you were an electronic entity that was then put into a flesh body. If you were originally fully describable using electrons, then you have no soul, as that is not a describable quality.

Replaceability is part of being the original. An original isn't replaceable. As for why she would, if she knew everything about you deterministically then she had no reason to create you. Since she doesn't, then its possible for you to (through free will) make choices that cause you to become an imperfect husbando, she could decide that she can replace you with a better one.

Did you read beyond the title? You are a fleshy being run through VR simulation, not an uploaded AI. The titles refers not to you being an uplifted AI, but a human uplifted through AI.
>>50519236
>As for why she would, if she knew everything about you deterministically then she had no reason to create you. Since she doesn't, then its possible for you to (through free will) make choices that cause you to become an imperfect husbando, she could decide that she can replace you with a better one.

First, she did not create you, which invalidates the line of the argument that comes from that.

Second, it is implied through the whole CYOA and some of the lines directly that you cannot be replaced physically.

Third, read the final sentence of the CYOA.

a galaxy of abundant minor political powers, most controlling only one planet or star system (or even sharing control of a planet). Empires are prevented by a complex network of mutual protection pacts and alliances which virtually guarantee the failure of an aggressor. This leads to a rich diversity in races and cultures.

Technological development stalled with the invention of AI and the discovery of magic on some worlds. No one devotes their life to incremental improvements in society’s accumulated knowledge when they can instead invest in growing their personal magical power by leaps and bounds, and AI guarantee that there's no market demand for technical or scientific skills but are deliberately restricted from improving on technology (including themselves). (spoiler: this restriction was put in place by more powerful AI who maintain the galaxy as a wildlife preserve for organic humanoids).

My human father engaged in the common royal practice of siring children with diverse and powerful races/individuals, in an effort to strengthen the royal bloodline. Because this happened to work in my case - I’ve developed my doppelganger mother's ability to shapeshift into other humanoids - I have been formally recognized as a bastard son of the king, and am nth in line to the throne. I’ve also been betrothed to one of my half sisters (an Impish Sister).

Now I represent my star system in diplomatic missions to other races and civilizations. For this purpose, I’ve been granted a luxury space yacht for use as an official diplomatic vessel. To an extent, this is cover for the spying, smuggling, and theft I also engage in for my kingdom, selfish interests, and spontaneous whim.

I charm daughters and wives in every port, and my dalliances often give a boost to my diplomatic missions (when they aren't catastrophic). I use my skills in divination and trickery to avoid any conflict that can't be solved with my wit and libido (partly because I have no other skills). You can bet that getting captured was part of my plan.

On the fence about adding AI Wright.

The implications throughout the rest of the cyoa, including the final line do not overturn issues that come from the text of an option, since there were other options. It has been repeatedly noted by numerous people that the cyoa is written from the ship's perspective, and there are certain choices that the ship leads you to (ship's design choice, cosmic radiation/ship grown, dere-dere, etc). Its entirely possible for there to be a dud "option". Hell, the whole premise of "choosing" your origin which was already set-in-stone makes it seem to be more of a test than a real choice.

Okay, so you were born human and lived your whole life in an AI simulation, I will admit that I misread that part, but that doesn't fix the primary problem: she implies with certainty that running another round of 10,000 would've gotten her what she wanted. You are replaceable.

>The implications throughout the rest of the cyoa, including the final line do not overturn issues that come from the text of an option, since there were other options.

I think they do, as their function of a framing device put them into a higher position of hierarchical structure of priorities. The choices are made so that any would accomodate into the framing.

The availability of multiple options is due to the nature of this thing as a CYOA.
The CYOA is written from the ship's point of view, but if you're repaceable and the ships is in control, why does she try, accodring to you, to lead us somewhere and attach us to her? Continuing this line of thouhgt, why assume that these choices even matter and you're still not in a intricately-crafted simulation, where you do what the ship wants from you while thinking that you do what you want? Because such is not a premise of this CYOA.

>she implies with certainty that running another round of 10,000 would've gotten her what she wanted. You are replaceable.

First, the wording "AI simulation" is rather vague, and can mean several thing, from running a fully deterministic virtual construct designed to shape you as she sees fit to taking a random newborn contemporary human and letting him into a VR simulation to grow and develop freely. But juding from the "10,000" line which implies that the process is not under her control, we can assume it's not the former.

Second, she says that she would have had to run another 10,000 if she didn't get what she wanted, but she got it, she got you. I think you've read it wrong - she was ready to try again and again, however long it would take until she found you. You are all she wants.

do you think mundane weapons are a bad idea in a cyoa?

To expand on that that, do you feel that regular weapons like swords and pistols take a backseat to weapons with arcane or mystical properties. Kind of like the old Island CYOAs where in lieu of giving you a list of weapons you chose from five or six mystical items with a great variety of offense and defense oriented uses and with vague descriptions that left its application mostly to the player's imagination.

Is it a good idea to implement both types of items, both mundane and arcane in the same CYOA or would it just lead to people ignoring the swords in favor of the wands?

The best way to balance out mundane and magical equipment is have spell options that allow you to enchant whatever mundane equipment you favor of picking up.

And to give the unenchantable magical weapons curse like drawbacks. Such a bloodthirsty sword that makes the user go berserk whenever it is drawn.

That way the user is given a choice, invest in two options for a safe magically powerful weapon or invest in one magical powerful weapon with a drawback.
>>
>>50520583
Yea, but that also means theres an infinite number of shitty universes. You might wind up in the realm of unending torture before you make it to something good.

It depends on the scope of the CYOA. Modern everyday(ala Zombie invasion or Mage the Awakening knockoff) works great with FNs and Colts. But anime Edgelord will want his sword to be named, and contain a waifu if possible.

If they exist side by side, of course. Either you take mundane weapons for cost and versatility, or your henchmen get outfitted with the gear of your choice while you or your lieutenants get their own snowflake special variants.

Make animu sword wands. The famous Ame no Murakumo? It could direct wind and control weather. Joyeuse could change it's color, which you could extend either to entire body camouflage or perhaps the ability to inflict emotions on your subjects depending on the blade's "mood". The Freikugeln? They never miss, even if you are a shit shot. The classic Medusa shield, I don't need to tell you what it does. Mundane objects can be made mythical. But if you want to retain their mundane-ness, maybe make them like cold iron, they disrupt whatever magical effect is in place? That or just make them another section, i.e. you can only take one Weapon of Mass Murder and Rape and 3 sideweapons for variety.

>>
>>50520822

>>
>>50520822
To answer your question: There's one big section left: Realm of operation. Each will be a chunk of fluff and four/five options, but after that I want to bulk out the other sections a little. Then I'll be done.
>>
>>50520784
I guess I should've talked first about what setting I'm designing for the cyoa to give it proper context.

I don't want to spoil it, but it's kind of extremely low fantasy in that magic is going to be unlikely to appear, but balanced out by the presence of mythical non-magical beasts that would be difficult to kill with swords and shields but simultaneously might be too easy to kill if you're swinging around a colt and a sawed off shotgun. It's not so much about adventuring as it is surviving so you can easily justify the power disparity between regular melee weapons and firearms by making ammo rare enough that each shot has to count.

With all that figured out, my main concern is whether I should leave the player with his mundane weapons and let him figure out how to down an armored dragon using a panzerfaust, or whether I should also design some magical trinkets to give them more variability but with the caveat that they cost much more and have restrictions to their powers. I don't want to create overpowered *teleportsbehindyou* swords, but rather items that allow the player more freedom in how they would approach encounters, but that leaves the concern that the enemies would need to powered up since at the moment most of them are mundane beasts with a few sapient monsters in between and even less magical threats that only apply if specific choices are made anyway.
>>
>>50520561
The main problem with mundane items is that if they're so mundane why can't I just get them on my own after the CYOA is complete? There's a lot of good ways to answer that question and depending on the answer you choose it may or may not be a good idea to include them along with magical stuff.

Do y'all ever get halfway into making a CYOA and realize you've seriously fucked up? 90 options sounded real good when I was typing it all in pastebin but now I'm in Photoshop and all I know is regret.
>>
>>50521027
My CYOA has 400 options. Fun times.
>>
>>50520961
Sword and shield is way inferior to sword and spear against most animals. Just saying.

Do Rite of Flesh Union and Widow's Hunger interact at all, like allowing double-dipping for victims?

Personally I just wish I didn't have to find pictures for all the fucking options in my CYOA.

>Reasonable
>Pulling the race card at every conceivable opportunity

Sure
>>
>>50521034
Jeez, I'm at the point where I'm debating limited images. 400 sounds like the point where you need to do a plain text PDF.
>>50521061
I feel like I'm being threatened in an alley by "figure out how to arrange image/description space on the page" and his massive friend "find pictures for all the fucking options" is looming up behind me.
>>
>>50521063
You know he's already the most-loved president since Reagan or Kennedy, right? And that's while he's still in office.

Honestly, he'd be an asshole if he just walked his black ass into the White House and pretended it was no big deal. If you don't poke a hole and let the gas out periodically, you get an elephant in the room - and it comes from the people around you, not you.
>>
>>50521045
You know, I'm gonna say yes on this one, provided that if you use the former ability to execute the latter compulsion you must do so in a permanent and complete fashion. No use keeping the minds of weaklings intact, and if somebody triggers the 'too good' reaction, if you choose to have it, then you have to devour their minds as well.

Satisfactory?
>>
>>50519781
Still working my way through this, it's pretty fantastic. However I have a few design questions.

Things like the free sexual organ modifications (embellishments, lubrication, and musculature for example) seem like they should be mutually exclusive but I don't see that anywhere. As is there's no reason to not take all of the options which is pretty boring as it turns one decision into zero.

Similarly, Perfect Neoteny, Commanding Mein (I think you meant Mien), and Carnal Atmosphere could stand to be mutually exclusive as well. This is different from the above as there are good reasons to take any combination of the three. My concern is that the flavor doesn't stack very well. I'm not sure how a young woman with a powerful sexual aura is supposed to also be commanding. This is represented by gaining 3 favor to take -1 to each stat so it probably works out in the end, it just seemed a bit weird to me.

I released Dream Prince in april of this year and v1.1 a few days later as I fixed errors and expanded on it a little. I released the DLC and v1.2 in november of this year too.

Dream Prince was inspired by Angelanon's Dream Princess but is more then a simple copy. It is a similar setting (dream nobility) with a different history/background/setting mechanics.

Wouldn't SDA's angel/devil roommate cyoa be eligible? Didn't he do that in jan/fab of this year?

>Organ mods
You're right about that. Still, it seems too much to charge a whole point for those minot benefits. Perhaps I should multiply all current prices by three, as well as the budget I'll give players, and slap on a price tag of 1 or 2 for each mod?

>Other concern
If you take all three, it should feel wierd. Imagine a scenario where such a Bride was looking for a mate born under a particular stellar conjunction, and you fit the bill?

The cultists push you into the room. The only other individual is a young girl on the throne. As you look at her you feel the need to approach her, you feet placing themselves one in front of the other. You reach the foot of the throne, and the incongruous youth sweetly asks you to kneel. Your knees buckle as if cut out from under you...

I'm not gonna finish that vignette, but if the idea I planted in your mind doesn't feel sexywrong than I'm not doing it right.

So for 'Plush', I'm not sure the phrasing '"charms"' is sexy enough. It seems a bit too reserved. Though I'm not sure saying 'pussy' isn't too forward.
>>
>>50521475
I'll drop the quotes, and keep the word. Too reserved is better than to blatant. Makes the CYOA seem as if it's tiptoeing around the implication that people will just wanna bone the PC.
>>
>>50521372
Just toss out ideas to yourself on paper and then expand on the one that sounds neat. Maybe nightmare energy comes from people in the waking world when they preform evil/bad acts for example and pleasant dreams come from good energy from good acts, but there's a sudden increase in that negative dream energy and thus your cyoa..

As for the story, well? We start with the sphinx. My studies should be more than broad enough to solve her riddle, and if not I could always promise her a position in my court upon my coronation.

Then the Valkyrie. She's far from home, and if I could bring her to a stalemate she'd likely realize just how lost she is. Hopefully she's willing to return home without further incident - Father may have thirty wives but I'm not so certain I could handle that many.

Next, the Realm Seed. Delivering it will require the aid of the many allies I'll have made in the time prior to this. Bula's clan, Zareia's people, Corisande's kingdom, and Taleri's extensive funding. Admittedly the source of her funding might be considered somewhat obscene, but what works works.

Oh, who am I kidding. I'm going to end up wedding all of them, aren't I?
