My homebrew?

It's a fungus that, if its spores get ingested or inhaled, or if the fungus itself is eaten, will cause the victims to think they are taking a lot more damage than they actually are.

For example, a man is fighting a troll that lives in a cave with this fungus. The troll is affected it by it, but so is the man. The man gets hit by the troll and takes 12 damage from the troll's claws, but failed the will save that occurred when the fungal spores entered his system. The troll then re-rolls his damage dice and the man takes that number as non-lethal damage.

Currently, the source of the fungus is unknown, but the BBEG has been using it to the party's frustration.

I was discussing this a few threads back. Undead and 'evildoers' have been executed en-masse by a recent ascendant god, but the players were, perhaps by mistake, merely banished. The corrupting power of the abyss between worlds killed them and raised them as undead.

The first few sessions involve crawling out of the nothingness between planes and back into existence, perhaps encountering worse horrors on the way.

After that, things open up significantly. A world torn apart by wars of ascension, various gods that have come and gone and shaped the world in their image. A few plot threads to follow, but ultimately relatively sandbox.

Well, Sir Grumpy Cat, that greatly depends on what mood I'm in and what level we're starting at.

If we're going to start at level 15, than I typically don't give a rat's ass about the character's parents or upbringing unless they're royalty. To me, a level 15 character's backstory should be an extension of their established job and reputation, such as emphasizing some famous kills and doggedness of a Dragonslayer or the reputation of an Assassin in whatever Order they belong to.

If I'm doing a level 1-3? Yeah sure, mention mom and dad, mention their upbringing, mention the thing that sparked them to leave.

As i see it, psionic powers come from within while magic manipulated energies of the world. Psychic magic is focusing on subtle connections between things, symbols, emotions and spirit realms. Those are not the same things. And yeah, RHourglass is arcane but the blinkling is Psychic Armory/Psychic Warrior so cool flying blades are psionic.

They recently introduced 2 Starcraft maps. Braxis Holdout (Capture the beacons to send waves of zerg at the enemy) and Warhead Junction (First come first serve one 1 shot nukes that spawn randomly. If you die holding a nuke someone else can steal it from you.

How do I Skald properly?

It seems like none of its uses of Raging Song are very good, and Inspired Rage is actively detrimental to allied casters.
Spell Kenning is nice, but its per day limitations make it a hard option to use effectively.
As nice as the passive bonuses (Uncanny Dodge, Knowledge stuff, and DR) are, it just doesn't seem like they amount to much.

What necessary niche in the party does the Skald fill that the Bard can't? I love the concept of the class, but it just seems so underwhelming.

My incanter has the Counterweight Protkinesis feat, which says

Avowed is Forrest's new warlock; and while the names are a bit odd it's a lot more proper-warlock than the shit pretending to be it for a long time. Plenty of pact options too, though it's still in playtesting (the blast shapes in particular need some upwards tuning in several cases).

Basically I'm combining that (self-pact is exactly what it says on the tin) and living legend to make a guy who believes he's a superior being (well, 30pb and gestalt) so hard that he granted himself warlock powers.

I need an unbiased opinion, /pfg/!

I have an idea to give my players custom-made artifacts that in addition to have they're own effect, grant one level of a specific class as long as the person is in possession of the artifact. For example, a katana that grants one level of samurai.

Is this too complicated? Should I just have it grant key class-powers, like a samurai's challenge and resolve abilities? I like the original idea more, but it makes it sound like keeping track of BAB and saves and stuff will be a pain in the ass if the user switches to another weapon or gets disarmed or something.

I'd rather not give them something entirely for free, but the only disadvantage seems to be "the sword has a mind of its own". The black blade in the place it is inspired from practically rules the character that wields it, but that's worse. I feel like the designers went two directions with it, and now it's just an excuse to be more powerful.

I know I'm falling for the bait, but still, I'll explain this to you.

Very powerful characters are very difficult to balance for, for one. Letting someone have a bonus to power with literally no downside is a problem that can get out of control quickly as one player ends up more powerful than the others. Expressly not something you want as a DM.

So to actually make their downside into something real, you have to roleplay their sword. This can be just fine if the game and player suit it, some people like that sort of resistance. If this is a roleplay heavy game, it may just take up space for a private interaction, maybe something I don't want.

And then there's the other side of the stick; If the player doesn't like the way his sword acts. Well, tough shit, you picked BBM. Maybe your chivalrous knight's sword doesn't like it when you coup de gras the sleeping innkeeper. But the wrong kind of person will take that personally, and end up attacking the DM over it.

If it's a game with friends and I trust my pal to be good with it, then sure, why not. If it's an open recruitment game and I dont know what I'm gonna get... I'll be careful with it.

Are we actually having this conversation. A familiar is an objective power increase, a Black Blade is at best a sidegrade and convenience archetype. It takes an Arcana and cuts your Arcane Pool Progression, and also makes you focus in on one EXACT weapon instead of just one type of weapon.

A BBM's sword is the exact same alignment as the magus himself, and will have similar goals. If not, it would be an objective downgrade, because it prevents you from taking a familiar and shoots your Arcane Pool progression. If the GM then proceeds to still use it as an excuse to fuck over the player, it becomes an even BIGGER downgrade, because now the GM is fucking with you because he doesn't like that you wanted to have a talking sword.

WBLMancy isn't an improvement? Saving money on a magic weapon is actually a big deal, anon. Your progression is, in theory, slower than a normal equipment-bearing magus, but more often you are equal for pure enhancement bonus and you get the rest of that money spare for whatever you please, adding up quite quickly. At level 5, that is 8000 gold, something you can spend however you please.

Again, this isn't always a big deal. In the right game where this much extra money would be put to interesting use and not just more enhancement bonuses, I'd love it. The arcana is a reasonable tradeoff in comparison; Trading an arcana for what amounts to a feat(craft magic arms and armor).
