Worse of all you started the thread with a ROLL your own adventure, not a choose your own adventure.

I think you're missing the point of the CYOA.

Also, you're acting like being a drug dealer is a safe line of work.

Yes, much better. Otherwise if you picked room options like the Olympic pool and full gymnasium you could easily run out of space.

>Entrance
The Coin

>Outdoors
Grassland - Brook, Trees & Shrubs, Fog, Fickle Weather, Events

>Indoors
Kitchen - Food Replicator, Breakfast Nook, Mythical Ingredients
Bedroom - Temperature Controlled
Guestrooms - Temperature Controlled, Larger, Doubled
Bathrooms - Automated Groomer, Smell Neutralizer, Deluxe
Living Room - 300" UltraHDTV, Streaming Service, Surround System
Computer Room - Laptops, Smart House (JARVIS)

My first meal in my new house is a fruit platter, starting with a Golden Apple (immortality) and ending with Ambrosia (godhood) from the fictional setting of the Hercules and Xena shows. Not sure what domain I'll pick although Sanctuary sounds appropriate. It's time to learn how to get my god on (and enjoy a movie or two on the 300" television) before I return to Earth to help other people in need of comfort and relaxation obtain a sanctuary of their own.

Are you thinking of the Thinning The Herd one? Strife also posted it the same day I think.
>>
>>50479387
>OP wants to post a CYOA
>OP proceeds to post a RYOA instead
>>
>>50481327
Yeah, Thinning the Herd explicitly mentions it's a companion CYOA to Strife's Comfy one. So in addition to being a monster, you go back into your little dimension where you have Hoeti's granted Comfy zone.

Which I just used to keep certain people I culled from reality

I'm working on a CYOA and I need you guys to tell me if my idea is stupid or not.

I'll keep things simple - you are a leader of a very important powerful organization, which is at war with another one. During the whole CYOA you'll be picking choices which constantly reference and point to this other organization, you have to maintain balance between the factions in your own one to prevent a civil war from going out, building up your own military to fight against your enemy, stuff like that. And then, if you take a mystery box at the end, it will be revealed that you were an agent from the opposing side all along, with a goal to slowly change your group from the inside to stop the hostilities, or at least weaken and divide it (making you going for a civil war instead of preventing it). There's some foreshadowing of this throughout the whole CYOA.

Mystery boxes are stupid, but the thing I planned would work better this way. Also this twist might piss people off.

Being on the side of the enemy route is very important in the CYOA, so I can dumb it down to a quest where you just decide to turn to their side if I have to get rid of the mystery box, but it will be dumb - a ruler ruining everything he has and betraying his own nation like that is retarded.

So, should I keep it as a mystery box or turn it into a quest? Is there another solution?
>>
>>50481980

From the way you make it sound a mystery box doesn't seem to suit your CYOA.
>>
>>50481980
Just do what shitstormanon did and have a two-page CYOA released a few hours to a day apart.

Better yet, start the thread with it and post it around halfway, at the 150-200 mark.

I agree with this, actually. The problem is she's straight up better than the other options in a practical sense, and in an idealist sense she doesn't fit type; she basically exists as a protest option provided by the OP as passive-aggressive complaining (authentic or ironic, the detriment is the same).

Part of what makes a choice fun and meaningful is the context for that choice. Things like the setting, specific circumstances, and the options available.

But for it to feel "affection" like humans it would need a evolutionary imperative to form bonds and If I am correct it lacks mammary glands which I would put forward as evidence that it would behave more like a reptile than a mammal.

>Mystery boxes are stupid
You got it right
>you have to maintain balance between the factions in your own one to prevent a civil war from going out
>it will be revealed that you were an agent from the opposing side all along, with a goal to slowly change your group from the inside to stop the hostilities, or at least weaken and divide it (making you going for a civil war instead of preventing it
So by taking mystery box you lose because you made a good build without civil war, but civil war was your goal all along. What's the point?

That said i like the premise of the CYOA with building up the faction and such and would like to see it finished.

So given an infinite amount of time, the universe with both permanently succumb to entropy, and escape it? You are trying to apply the principles other people have come up with without bothering to fully understand them. Causality can lead to stagnant states, even with an infinite universe with infinite time.

The time in the chill zone is finite, but if you don't have the starting materials there to derive a particular state, you can't reach it ever.

Yes, actually. Entropy decreases are not forbidden by thermodynamics. It's just very unlikely.

But any nonzero chance, given an infinite amount of time, will at one point become true.

Very interesting stuff when you consider the implications of how that would come about. I imagine that's why we're finding evidence of a cyclical universe, going from Bang to where we are now to heat death and back. All very cool stuff.

Listen.

I'm trying to be nice, here. There is no "permanent" state for the universe. Even if you were to make the universe have absolutely no energy within it besides heat at all (thus, the "heat death"), the universe can still get out of that state.

>The fact that decreases in entropy are possible in some conditions doesn't mean that they are possible in all conditions
They are possible in all conditions.
You're not thinking on the right scale, here. If I have a salt shaker where the bottom half is salt and the top half is filled with pepper, and I shake it, what is the chance that after a shake, the salt will still be ALL in one half and the pepper would still be ALL in the other?

Close to zero. However, there is still a chance, and given an infinite amount of shakes, you will get back to that state of reduced entropy

>what about all that entropy you've created through the heat of your muscles shaking the shaker
Doesn't matter. You're thinking on the wrong scale. The WHOLE universe is a giant salt shaker, and it's constantly shaking on its own. Think about it like that.

>but the chances are astronomically low
Yes, they are. Still, it is nonzero.

I have, but as a biologist I also know that cockroach are obsessively cleanly. They groom themselves constantly to avoid disease and infection.

They say a cockroach is only as dirty as the surface it is standing on, because everything down to the design of its carapace is adapted to keep bacteria and filth from sticking to it. It's just that they happen to inhabit dirty places.

However, as disgusting as it would be to eat a cockroach or its droppings (I myself accidentally drank one once, was gagging all day), the cockroach itself isn't going to make you sick.

For one, we don't even know if the heat death will happen in the way we think it might. It's just one possible fate. Take a look here, it's very interesting:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_fate_of_the_universe

Secondly, we don't know. Are you asking me to give you a concrete answer? No one really can do that, much less me.
If you want alternative fates for the universe, the term "Cyclic Model" will be of use to you. There are several theories on the subject. Just off the cuff, I can say that there's a theory that, if all matter turns into pure radiation (which is consistent with Heat Death), then nothing has any distance scale associated with it anymore, and the universe "automatically" falls back into a state of singularity, whereby the Big Bang happens all over again.

Another neat theory is LQC, but I won't really get into that here. This is for posting CYOAs, not discussing physics.

That's a lot of effort. A lot of the gameplay is on the players' end. While running the game I'll mostly be in charge of recording players' points and ranks based on what they do during a season. Because part of the game requires players to step in with varying levels of comprehension and investment, that seems like something difficult to implement.

>one possible fate
That's kind of my point. Some states are outcomes, and you can only have one outcome for one iteration no matter if you spend infinite time on that iteration. If you lose a game of tic-tac-toe with no time limit, no amount of staring at the board will make you win that game instead. If you want to argue "well quantum theory says that all of the individual ink molecules might happen to tunnel their way into making Xs into Os, don't you think you are getting kind of away from meaningful game discussion?

If you can't outline a believable scenario or mechanism for an escape from heat death, you're basically just saying "anything's possible, I don't know," which doesn't really cut it for me.

The existence of a cyclical modal doesn't change anything; either the universe cyclical, or it isn't. You can't have both outcomes, even with quantum theory.

When they're pets.
You don't want to deal with a wild rat.
I had a couple rats outside my house for a while. They were well kempt, almost looked like squirrels with naked tails.
I would have lived and let live, but I found out that they were almost certainly carrying a disease that could hurt or kill me or my pets, but the rats were basically immune to it.
So I set a few traps and killed them.

Accidentally got a little bird too, but how was I supposed to know birds like peanut butter?

Do you have any image editing experience? I wouldn't recommend GIMP if you don't, as it has a relatively steep learning curve and I find it rather limiting.

No. I think that's totally valid. I wouldn't underestimate the autismos here who would literally never leave their Zone.

>The existence of a cyclical modal doesn't change anything; either the universe cyclical, or it isn't. You can't have both outcomes, even with quantum theory.
Well then you're just reducing this to a difference of opinion. Neither of us can conclusively argue one way or the other for simply the lack of evidence.

One thing is for sure, though: Heat Death is a meme. When you realize how many other possibilities are out there, you understand that heat death is only as well-known as it is because it represents an easy-to-understand and truly horrifying scenario that anyone from normie to autismo to Ein-fucking-stein himself would be scared shitless about, barring the ultimate nihilists that would actually welcome a state of perpetual uselessness

However, I do have one ace up my sleeve:
The Chill Zone doesn't experience Heat Death, no matter what the "true" nature of the universe is, so your points about this don't matter in this context.

>This goes both ways, genius.

This isn't the case when you're speaking in terms of axiomatic adequately self-defined truths. 2+2=4 is valid as a concept even if we don't have 4 things on hand to actually carry out the experiment.

>The Chill Zone doesn't experience heat death
Heat death was just to show that even with quantum theory, closed systems can reach equilibrium states because of the lack of outside energy. Even if not all people will reach such a suboptimal equilibrium (and thus never reach the true maximum of a given discipline), it is possible and even probable that some will.

Make the width slightly narrower than a standard screen size like around 1600 or something. Have two rows, so you can fit wider images and columns (god, that line length...) while keeping the same number of entries and making use of easy scrolling. Don't use out-of-ratio images, negative space is not wasted if you use it right. Consider color-coding text to make scanning easier. Don't bold everything; don't bold some blocks of text and not others.

Had to run some errands back now and through with Physical and Magical skills. Haven't actually put in the way combat works, but it's done on paper. Basically each round players roll Xd10 for both themselves and the enemy. Most enemies with have elemental weaknesses/resistances that will give advantage to mages, though a physical fighter can hit most enemies without worrying about having the right elements (with one perk who's name momentarily escapes me giving phys elemental access).

Mostly looking for skill reviews, suggestions, etc. Also any suggestions for attributes is greatly appreciated.

Howsabout figure out different answers (1+ per) for one or more of the following:
> how long they live
> do they undergo some sort of metamorphosis during their lifecycle
> when are they considered mature
> how do they reproduce (live births, egg-laying, parasitic, etc.)
> how many sexes
> - if more than one, what role each of them has in reproduction/society and what other differences (if any) there are between them

>for what purpose?
Fun (and profit?)

The issue is there are so many possibilities for these options and I don't want to limit the player by streamlining the cyoa. A lot of it has to be managed by the players imagination and that's the problem: what goes into the cyoa and what is imagined by the player

Haven't read through the whole thing, but the first thing I'd recommend is cutting any "for every X points in a stat". It makes someone with, say, 5/4/5/5/4 stats significantly worse than the overall lower array of 6/5/3/6/3, and without the balancing effect constant progression would give.

The easiest way to fix it would be to multiply all stats by 3 or so; "1 damage + 1 every 3 STR" becomes "3 + STR damage." It'd need reworking beyond that, but it'd make sure every stat point mattered while reducing the min-maxing potential.

I'll go over the rest, and comment on it in a while - definitely in the next few days, but I have an essay to be writing.

This idea is poison. Limits, like rules of any kind in art, are annoying and constraining YET they serve a purpose beyond merely existing to be broken (itself a really fun thing to do). Streamlining makes everyone happy (except the author, if they hate doing it).

In the cyoa you will create a whole world, and a narrative about it - even if you only set up a situation between the CYOA user and 1 other character, or an object. Give it some kind of narrative framework that people can use as an intuitive launchpad for their desire for adventure.

In its current state, the doc largely mirrors the CYOA, and I was under the impression that hunters were granted power all at once. Reeling it in with powers granted could make for an interesting experience as well, and definitely provides room for growth.

Just make it a plot rule that every species tries to synthesize Omega Particles at some point and *bam* you can then violate the Prime Directive all you want.

Oh right! Just remembered that skills provide a majority of stat growth. Starting arrays are 4/3/2/2/1 before skills, so the larger dividers are for high end characters. I planned for characters to be squishy and low power against the big bad monsters sometimes near 5 dice and with oodles of wounds.

On that note, did anyone working on Star Trek ever really consider the implications their space opera model of reproduction would have on the definition of species? Like, speciation occurs when a population diverges enough genetically that they can't produce fertile offspring with members from another population, but a half-klingon, half-human could put a baby in a romulan, and THEIR baby could put a baby in a bajoran...

It's almost like they're all just humans in makeup.

It's a conspiracy

They are all descended from one precursor race

Never.
>>
>>50488489
It is canon, there was that one episode where the enterprise crew got involved in a pseudo treasure hunt competing against the other main alien races; the romulans and klingons to find a ancient artifact that contained a message left behind by the precursor race.

The message was essentially, "lol we seeded the planets with sentient life and made each of your races super special awesome but also from a same general humanoid framework because we wanted all of you to respect each other's differences and get along in harmony and come to a realization that life's ultimate nature is life itself, peace out yo!"

It reinforced the enterprise's belief in the Federation of Planets, but all the other parties involved thought the message was complete bullshit, noted it down and ignored it.
