From Spoony, weirdly enough. His recent ramble on AD&D psionics got me thinking about how I could turn that into a more modern character concept.

Uhhh everywhere. Deviant Art, google images, /tg/booru, video game concept art (all those resource management fantasy games you play on your phone are amazing for art), character art threads on /tg/ from here and a few other chans. A couple of people have websites for it too and here is my google drive full of it

Maria is one of the more difficult Hunter styled bosses, and has phases like many of the more monstrous bosses. It makes her a pain to fight.

Lore-wise, she's the person the Doll is based off of. Gehrman's creation was in her image, because he evidently loved her. But by the time you come into the hunt, he no longer cares about her, which is why the Doll no longer moves, at least until you get some Insight.

>what was the deal with Maria?

You mean why people love to make fun of her? Because she's an incredibly edgy character in a game dripping with edge.

She's the half-vampire* master huntress that Gehrmann loved and uses *blood and fire* for her attacks.

I want to believe there's somethig else to it, but...meh.

Also, I knew she and the doll had some metaphysical connection, and that something was up with her and Gherman. He has this fair and almost motherly construct that has nearly all the mannerisms of a human, but he so casually disregards her.

I just realized that the "make contact" gesture basically turns you into a wave receptor (like a radio antenna).

You have an X-axis and a Y-axis component (up-arm and out-arm) at maximum extension, to pick up the most signal you can no matter the orientation of the incoming waves.
>>
>>50200650
Inquisitors work fairly well. I'd personally go with the archetype packages (super genius games) style multi-classing and drop the spellcasting in favor of grabbing sneak attacks, or paladin smite stuff.

Or you could start alchemist, drop the bomb and mutagen alchemist archetype packages - grab the inquisitors 'executioner' package, and the fighters 'battle master' package.

Why is there a magic corset that gives an Escape Artist bonus? Isn't the whole point of corsets that you can't bend over in them?
>>
>>50201011
I recall that, but I never read it and if it's anything like most of the homebrew /pfg/ responds to, it probably wasn't very good.

Inquisitors + Alchemists are a great starting point for hunters. Extracts replicate vials / blood tinge / hunter fluffy abilities fairly well, and inquisitor judgements / solo teamwork feats represent hunting abilities fairly well.

then you just need to find some way to do trick weapons.

Okay here are the rules:
No classes with any amount of Vancian casting.
That's it.
Right now I'm thinking about a Tinker, a Brutal Slayer Bushi Stalker, a Contender Brawler, a Sworn Protector Warder, a Moonlit Meditant Soulknife or an Incanter.

The game's setting and plot will be made after the party is assembled.

Do you see what the problem is here?

Did you know that Pathfinder's magic items include corsets in the armor, body, and chest slots?

Example of armor slot corset: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-armor/specific-magic-armor/abrogalian-corset

Example of body slot corset: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items/wondrous-items/c-d/corset-of-dire-witchcraft

Example of chest slot corset: http://www.archivesofnethys.com/MagicWondrousDisplay.aspx?FinalName=Corset%20of%20Delicate%20Moves

Any weight to this?

"But back then Lisa Stevens hired MMO developer Ryan Dancey to develop the Pathfinder MMO, in spite of Dancey's horrible track record with games. This was a purely personal move because they're old friends. It's one of many bad decisions that basically led to the state Paizo is now in and why I left.

Pathfinder Online was developed by the independently owned (but Paizo-backed) company Goblinworks, and Paizo invested a VERY substantial sum of money in the company. Way too much.

So as a result of this investment, there were no bonuses allotted to salaried employees that year. I wouldn't be surprise if they're still denying everyone their bonuses.

Goblinworks failed to deliver the promised product and, in spite of months of us trying to warn upper management that Pathfinder Online was fucked, the plug wasn't pulled on Goblinworks until the 11th fucking hour, way past the point of being able to salvage the company. By this point Paizo pumped so much money into Goblinworks that they were entering financial dire straits. The Goblinworks folks tried but Paizo just gave the fuck up, which I can't blame them for. It's way too little too late.

Paizo became so short on finances that they were unable to maintain the development of the VTT software or essential upgrades to their proprietary forum/store back-end.

I heard that since my departure Paizo's started to intentionally delay payment of contractors (artists and freelance writers) in order to juggle financial burdens from month to month in a pretty blatant breach of contract.
>>
>>50201200
I don't know about Paizo internally, but Goblinworks definitely shit the bed repeatedly with literally everything to do about Pathfinder Online.

Playing in my low-magic setting this sunday. Got a silent auction to go to, apparently there's a magic carpet for sale. I want to steal a whole bunch of stuff (5th level factotum) but the GM says that stealing is worse than child rape in this setting, so i gotta be careful, lol.

Shitty thing is that i realized today that i can't take EWP: Hand Crossbow at first level since my bab is too low. Now i'm considering taking a level of rogue at 1st, but if i do that i can't take Font of Inspiration twice for my flaw feats. I don't want a fully optimized character, because reasons, but i don't want to only plunk away with 4 damage crossbow bolts either. I really don't want to wait another level for Knowledge Devotion, and since i'm being tracked by wizards, i really want to take Darkstalker as soon as i can.

So yeah, should be fun.

at level 4 you will be weak. Grease and glitterdust will be all you need in combat.

Out of combat look at all the cool utility spells that non-magical means can't duplicate, and prepare a few of them.

As you level your utility goes from "repairing army instantly" to "building a bridge for an army instantly", while your in-combat ability basically stays in the "blind enemy/stick enemy in a create pit/make the enemies day worse".

As >>50201433 noted; Presto and Glitterdust will be your friends until the end game. Not even with just cleaning, recoloring, reflavoring food, or drying off, Prestidigitation could be used to emulate weaker versions of other cantrips if you're a cheeky shit; it's sometimes called 'The Littlest Wish' for a reason. And Glitterdust is very rarely not effective, what with it ignoring Spell Resistance (enabling it to affect things like Constructs) and the Blind status condition being a real pain to deal with.

Intentionally or otherwise, your GM may learn to loath Glitterdust.
Mine does, but for a different reason.

Other options for control/support would be Create Pit, Ray of Sickening/Ray of Enfeeblement, Burning Disarm, Mirror Images, Pilfering Hand is a spell I've had some good use out of, and for giggles there's always Unnatural Lust. For some out of combat stuff, there's always Unseen Servant, Knock, Floating Disk, Web Shelter, and Raven's Flight. If you guys make it to 5th level your martially inclined allies will love you for Haste.
>>
>>50201956
glitterdust loses effectiveness a LOT with an experienced DM.

blindsense, tremorsense, scent and blindfight trivializes it.
>>
>>50201973
It's the same with all really decent spells. Just because it's good doesn't mean it can't be dealt with.

Still, those forms of sensory information are a bit more limited than sight, meaning they can still giove your team a tactical advantage even if doesn't just become a roflstomp.

Hey guys.

I'm normally a /pfg/ dude, but am starting to read through 5e, for an upcoming game.

What would 5e need for you to like it?

I can see some things it's obviously missing, and for me the things wrong with it are:

>Lack of Character Customization Opportunities
>Lack of Character Customization Options.
>Low Number of Premade Adversaries.
>Binary Skill Proficiency.

Anything I'm missing?

The growth rate of the bonuses in PF is much higher, leading to higher averages for the focused rolls and lower in the unfocused ones. Both systems have the issue of the standard deviation of the rolls not improving with focus, only the average. 5e's problem is the effect of focusing into a particular roll is very little due to the overall small bonuses.

Yes, that includes waifu races.
Yes, that includes the archetype systems
Yes, the includes the Alchemist
Maybe, combine the good traits of the Investigator and the Factotum

And for god's sake, I actually LIKE class-unique powers.
I want Rage Powers, I want Rogue Talents, I want Magus Arcanas, I want options!

I don't want 5e's cliche, casul, dumbed-down adventurer generator. I want weird, lewd, weeb and absolutely crazy that only tabletop games can provide.
>>
>>50202352
>What makes it so much more swingy than PF, which also has a flat dice distribution?
In PF you can easily stack lots of modifiers and bonuses so an actual dice roll becomes more and more irrelevant, especially when you can just take 10. In 5E the number of bonuses is very limited but you are still stuck with d20. The DCs, saving throws etc. aren't as inflated but it's still pretty swingy.
>>
>>50202377
Yes, I'm familiar with it, I meant official 5e planescape support. like a Planescape AP or 5.

>Both systems have the issue of the standard deviation of the rolls not improving with focus, only the average. 5e's problem is the effect of focusing into a particular roll is very little due to the overall small bonuses.
5e's bonuses scale from like, +5, to like +15 or so, for stuff you're good at.

They do only shift things to the right though, rather than eliminating outliers.

Do you think outliers should be eliminated? Something like a dice pool system, where the more dice you add, the less swingy the results get? Is that desirable? Why?

Is it more desirable than the GURPS 3d6+numbers approach?
>>
>>50202405
>PF is just as swingy, at the low end, but bonuses scale so much you eventually can't fail.

A lower standard deviation (read less swingy) system comes off as the player reducing the randomness of a roll and increasing the consistency of their action. If I were a crafter-type at high level representing years of training, I don't want a level 1 shmuck to even have a chance of putting out a better product than me due to my low roll and his super high roll. Ideally a system increases the average roll as well as decrease the standard deviation of the roll as the players progress and focus into different areas. Dice pools with modifiers can work for this but a system closer to shadowruns simulates this progression better.
>>
>>50202402
>port everything good from 3x
>3x's rotten bloated corpse
>good

Let it go. Most of the good from 3e was ported to PF already.

The factotum is stronger than the Inquisitor because it ignored your standard class creation rules. You have a class with full BAB wizard + cleric spells and 10+int skills with EVERYTHING as a class skill using your INT modifier, all inside one class.

Drop the nostalgia goggles - the factotum was unbalanced shit.
>>
Adam Meyers' Player's Guide to Skybourne has a two-page section specifically pertaining to new uses of skills.

>Profession (courtesan)
>A creature trained in Profession (courtesan) can provide entertainment for a ship, similar to a creature trained in a Perform skill, as detailed in Chapter 4: Flying the Skies. A courtesan or performer can receive aid from only one creature at a time, but can receive aid from an entire crew when determining how many people they can entertain.

A courtesan, with the crew's help, can entertain the whole crew. This seems fit for a hentai doujin. It gets weirder.

>Entertainer Training: The crew is trained in either a Perform skill or Profession (courtesan), and may increase the number of people an officer may provide loyalty bonuses for to up to 10 small crews per small crew with this perk. In addition, they may perform any of the following crew actions as a standard action. When a Perform or Profession (courtesan) check is required, they may use their Skill bonus, or the bonus of the officer who leads them, whichever is higher. A crew must possess instruments or entertainer’s outfits to use these crew actions.

The whole crew can be trained in Profession (courtesan) and given "entertainer's outfits" in order to boost the crew's morale.

The three actions listed here are "intimidate," "inspire," and "distract." The latter two are self-explanatory, but the first...

>Intimidate: As a standard action, the crew insults and threatens their enemies, using their performance to create a sense of doom in their enemies. This is the same thing as an Intimidate check made to demoralize all targets within 30 ft., but the crew makes a Perform or Profession (courtesan) check instead of an Intimidate check.

You can have an entire crew trained in Profession (courtesan) and dressed up in "entertainer's outfits," and they can "create a sense of doom in their enemies" using Profession (courtesan).

Only in Skybourne.
>>
>>50202563
to be fair, the factotum doesn't really get full spell progression of the wiz + cleric unless they're human with a specific feat and prestige class from other unrelated 3pp contents.

Okay, using Courtesan to Intimidate the enemy is kind of silly, but I don't see anything wrong with Profession (Courtesan) itself. Sailors were notoriously randy little shits, and a dedicated courtesan would go a long way to drain them of any built-up stress.
>>
Hmm.

I think I can see the appeal of shadowrun's dice over something like GURPS now that you're bringing it up.

Would that even be that hard in D&D (Any edition)?
>d20>>SUM(3d6)
>Advantage/Disadvantage: Add +2d6 to the roll, and discard the two lowest / two highest before SUM.
>Every+~3.5 (3?): Add another d6 to the SUM.
>If there's a +1/+2 leftover, add it in.

I feel like that preserves the average, reduces swinginess, and gives you your scaling bonuses and decreased swinginess with skill.

This is fantasy, where mixed male/female crews are not uncommon.

Even stranger is this.

>Cabin Boy/Girl
>Important Skills: Profession (servant)
>A cabin boy/girl is usually a youth learning the ropes of ship command, but may just as likely be a professional valet, or indeed anyone trained to accomplish the hundreds of mundane tasks that helps a ship run smoothly, from polishing the captain’s boots, to keeping the carpenter’s tools in great repair, to delivering messages as needed throughout the ship.

>As an overland standard action, the cabin boy/girl may use their Profession (servant) skill to aid all creatures aboard their ship. Many large ships will even have dedicated crews of of assistants, who the cabin boy/girl can lead in a crisis.

What does Profession (servant) do in Skybourne?

>Profession (servant)
>Whenever an ally attempts a skill check where others could use the aid another action to help them, a character trained in Profession (servant) may make a Profession (servant) check in place of whatever skill would normally be necessary. This grants a circumstance bonus to the character attempting the skill check equal to the Profession (servant) check divided by 10 (+1 for a roll of 10 or higher, +2 for a roll of 20 or higher, +3 for a roll of 30 or higher, etc.). Only one creature may attempt a Profession (servant) check to aid another in this fashion, but up to an entire crew can use aid another to help a creature with this Profession (servant) check.

>As an overland move action, a character may make a Profession (servant) check to aid all creatures on the ship for that day.

The ship's cabin boy/girl can use a move and a standard action to aid the entire crew, which includes the ship entertainer's Profession (courtesan) check and the rest of the crew's check to aid that Profession (Courtesan) check.

Basically, the ship's young cabin boy/girl is hard at work all day. They innocently (despite being in an "entertainer's outfit" like the rest of the crew) help people with refreshments and clean-up in the background, while the crew works their Profession (courtesan) skill in the foreground.

Dude... What kind of campaign are you joining where success is that razor-thin? There is absolutely nothing wrong with Strength because Strength builds will keep you competent in 99% of campaigns.

The sheer number of dice counting slows things down. If you you have to roll 7d6 drop 2 high/low + static and you do that for three attacks, that gets out of hand. Or if the GM has to make multiple saves due to area effects.

After... I don't know what, I'm trying to piece this together event-by-event, however I'm getting the vibes that he did something unforgivable, something that led to him becoming an Aldori Swordlord and later put away the sword to live in Sandpoint.

Mars Agathon was the product of investment By an eccentric duke, the production of the best of the best archers. A process that started with his grandfather and his siblings.

He and his brothers and sister were put through such rigorous training that two of them were left permanently crippled. At the cusp of their regimen suddenly the Duke was gone. Apparently their training was extraordinarily expensive and bled his coffers dry. their liege having skipped town and their holdings forfeit they were now homeless vagabonds. They all went their separate ways.

Mars just started stalking battlefields, Choosing one person who stuck out in the fighting as someone skilled. He would kill them to hone his abilities. This continued for about four years until he accidentally killed a dragon.

I rarely need more than 2 a level and almost never have more than 4 I want to pick per level. The ones I want but don't always pick tend to be the more utility maneuvers like the ones in veiled moon. Stalkers and Mystics can get by just fine with only the ones given by the progression.

>That spoiler

I've honestly wondered why people never caught on to this; House Rogarvia is descended from Choral the Conqueror, who forged a single kingdom from a region of Seven Noble Families with the aid of three dragons. They rule the lands from the Ruby Fortress (Red Keep) sitting upon the Dragonscale Throne.

Heck, the current king is basically a puppet of his sister, who is effectively queen-regent and jealously guards her brother's bachelorhood even as old grudges bubble from the surface and threaten to once more tear the kingdom apart.

Everything about it screams Game of Thrones.
>>
>>50203423
I doubt that, although I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to get some newbies involved at the same time and don't want them to be overwhelmed with options. Published classes do not get removed from the game because they exist in books that have been sold. Corrections to printed material are accepted, but retroactively removing something is a big no-no, especially if its been rendered irrelevant by new material (which you would have to buy).

Pathfinder is a deeply bloated rulebase and needs a new edition very badly, but instead they are working on Starfinder to generate more income.

The latter is more up to the DM if he'll allow you to load the raining arrow with a dose of potion or infusion.

What you want is Hamatula Strike.

It lets you make free grapple attempts when you hit someone with a piercing weapon. It doesn't specify melee. Grapple attempts also move the target adjacent to you if they succeed, under normal circumstances.

There ya go.

>>50203953
I dunno, Roadhog doesn't really do angry.
>>
>>50204185
>Grapple attempts also move the target adjacent to you if they succeed

Aren't you just exploiting an exceptional situation to a rule?
>>
>>50204213
Bloodrager with abberant and long arm and enlarge has like 20 feet of reach. If you start a grapple you move them next to you.
>>
>>50204213
He is, but I have a player that thought it works this way as well and I've been letting him do that.
>>
>>50204213
Maybe a little, but it's not exactly far-fetched. Hamatula Strike is impaling people on your weapon. If it's a hook on a chain, it's entirely reasonable.

Maybe a little less if it were like, a bow or a gun, but compared to the kind of shit you COULD be doing in this system?

Eh.
>>
>>50204185
>I dunno, Roadhog doesn't really do angry.

Savage Technologist works because he can dual wield a gun and a hook with no penalty.
>>
>>50204280
Well it's not NO penalty, you still take TWF penalties. And there's no such thing as light ranged weapons (except for hand crossbows sort of).

And you only TAKE those penalties if you actually go for extra attacks.

So the only thing would be AoOs in melee, and that's solvable with feats. Two feats, but feats nonetheless. Feats you'd have to spare if he was like, a Fighter or somesuch.
>>
>>50204350
FINE.

Roadhog could be a Privateer.

>DM asks for bios and character sheets to be done before the game starts as he likes to place things relevant to PCs throughout the entire world
>everyone except one guy finish weeks ago
>DM keeps asking the guy to do it
>he always gives a shitty excuse
>other players ask why he hasn't done it
>still gives shitty excuse
>other players insist they had it done within an hour tops
>"thats too much time"

>>50204361
Gun Scavenger would be a great Gunslinger archetype if it weren't so resoundingly shitbag.

Perfect thematically though.
>>
>>50204393
Drop him. If he can't spare an hour out of game time, why expect him to commit properly to weekly sessions?

Pretty sure its just a meme. I think it's related to one of those 'get out of america' posts from tumblr.

If you'll make it to level 9 (5th level maneuvers), Silver Crane has a fun one. Make sure ammo's not an issue.

Other than that, Elemental flux always works, solar wind always works, but the best critical is actually the level 7 tempest gale (and a lot of tempest gale is kinda shitty for a gun since you're already hella accurate). Solar wind is of course more damage, and riven hourglass is a "never go wrong with that" option.

Weapongroup Adaptation may be an idea, and if you wanna go a bit more... exotic, Warsoul's Discipline Blade Shapes + having tempest gale or solar wind in your disciplines = all firearms available as soulknife forms you can "quickdraw" switch as needed.

(speaking of which don't forget cannons and the shitty, otherwise-too-expensive trap option energy tech weapons qualify as being under the firearms category; the latter just become elemental 2d6 that doesn't malfunction, in exchange for just 20/x2 critical and having to deal with immunities)

Almost died as a child from illness actually did die, but was brought back very quickly. The healer was a travelling varisian gypsy and as my characters parents were poor she requested to take my character on as an apprentice in lieu of payment, my character and her parents accepted and my extra-species character joined a the varisian band where she was tutored under the mystic for a time.

She wasn't a good match with the mystic, but turned out to be very, very good at cutting and setting gems into jewelry; so she took up with one of the artisans in the band. She earned enough money to buy her own wagon in the caravan by the time she was 16. Which gave her some highly desired privacy (she had been living with the old mystic until that point).

Her band also performed as entertainers (in addition to plying their skills and trading a small amount) while traveling and due to species related advantage she was very good at contortion.

Her band usually made a stop to a dwarven citadel around once or twice a season; where she traded her cut gems and jewelry for uncut ones, and that is where she picked up a piece of deep crystal which helped wake a psionic spark in her.

she first got 'sick' as a child from touching a piece of deep crystal and it reacting poorly with her latent wilder talent.

She practiced quite hard and eventually a conciousness woke in the deep crystal, which started to teach her more about psionics, and she transitioned into being a wilder and adventuring shortly afterwards.

She wants to return to her people at some point, but has little idea of how to find or contact them again because she has a lot of questions about her race. She's close with the varisian band and considers them family, but not so much as her first one.

As the 'mystics apprentice' for a while she gained a sort of untouchable status among the varisian youths (that her extra-racial uniqueness added to), by the time she started working with the jeweler she was very distanced and sort of lonely.

The Mystic she treated like a grandmother who was strict but fair, the Jeweler was middle-aged and like a doting uncle to her. It was his wife who tried to teach her varisian dance (which she was never very good at), but eventually helped her figure out a way to entertain in their band.

Born to an elven woman that had sex with a human merchant while her clan was staying near his city. They left before she could tell him that she was pregnant, so she raised their son with her clan.

Her clan didn't like him and treated him as an outcast. The clan's head druid took him as an apprentice and tried to train him, but he had trouble with getting the boy to control his temper.

He was eventually bonded to two wolves. The male one, a black wolf, was always ready to fight anyone that came near him. The female, a white wolf, was calm and observant. The head druid realized that the reason his apprentice was such a pain in the ass was that he had a sort of divided spirit (which was shown in the wolves) and sent him away.

It's fucking schlock but the DM asked for corny-as-fuck backgrounds.
>>
>>50202727
Sickly at birth, but was treated and eventually came out more than okay. Parents were both absentminded-workaholic types, so while they did love their kids, there weren't any storybooks so much as "papers", and not toys so much as "failed products that are safe to be around".

By the time he was five or six it was too late; spreadsheets about the silver mount had become "fun", production process documents had become "stories", and system specifications had become his dreams of the future. The youngest sister was too young to actually understand and fell asleep quite happily to his reading that crap at bedtime, but the middle one had somehow turned out normal and didn't take so well to all the boring crap.

>Oh. So it's because you're a fucking headcase. Yeah uh, I'm done here. I'll go teach someone who isn't fucking psycho.

:First Mate's Report:
I am sad to say that our mission was an absolute failure. Personal injury and mechanical failure stymied and hamstrung our vessel numerous times before we even reached our destination. Beyond the trouble of nesting birds finding home in the exposed gearworks when at rest, we've had numerous issue with uniform malfunctions. At first, it was all in good fun... A few tops tore off, some skirts lost... But then Ensign Susan's egregious ponytail became caught in the main blade rotors and the entirety of her scalp was ripped clean off her skull. Even more tragic was the loss of our Captain (Which I the reason why I am writing this missive in her stead) who's trailing ribbons became ensnarled in the primary drive engine. She was swiftly drug into the works and crushed in the gears. We've yet to retrieve all the remains from the mechanism, at time of writing.

I would say use the admixture subschool, spell focus/specialization, mage tattoo, signature spell and every other DC or dice booster you can think of. Check Brewer's Guide to the Blockbuster Wizard and build from there.

Can anyone help me put poisonous fangs on a constrictor snake animal companion? I want something big AND venomous :) .

>Can anyone help me put poisonous fangs on a constrictor snake animal companion?

You have 3 options:
1) evolved companion - I'm not sure they have poison as an option though

2) Alchemist with construct companion. The Alchemist can craft very potent poison for his robot python

3) Druid/Hunter - they actually do have a spell that lets bite attacks deal poison.
