Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli that I'm tempted to start, but I can't stand its current attempts to destroy Europe.

I'm looking at the old Kum Bikers and the base size called for by their Silhouette, and wondering what I'm going to fill that vast expanse of base with.

I'd be more impressed if it was my number, 22, but I'll take it.

Let's break some ice, who do you think had the worst or most unnecessary resculpt?
>>
>>49564210
The Domaru from the now-retired YJ Starter was just fine, and even fits with the new Domaru, but was retired anyway.

Scale of weaponry worries me very little, as Infinity is sufficiently advanced and militarized that rifle furniture will be sized to the user.
>>
>>49564210
I dislike the new Croc Man. Previous one looked less like a Fusilier in a body glove.

It's hard to point out bad resculpts, CB is doing a fantastic job on that front recently. Having said that, I'm not totally convinced of the new garuda model; the old one still looks nice apart from the arm-integrated weapons, and the new turbine reactor looks a bit silly (if they updated the profile with something like superjump, on the other hand...)
Not a bad model though.

I wish they made a djabanza with sniper rifle in the same pose as the one from the starter. That model and the hanzakut, made me want to start up infinity.

So what's your next purchase going to be? I'm getting that Red Fury Pheasant Rank not many like the head of.

I wish there was a separate new box of Celestial Guard.

I recently went on a bit of a spending spree and got the following:
Ghulam SWC box
Haqqislam Support box
Odalisque box

Think I'll pick up the remotes next or Bashi Bazouk/Yuan Yuan to expand the Qapu Khalqi side of things.
>>
>>49566277
Kanren's already lined up for an order, followed by a Kuang Shi box in the future. Babby's first steps into ISS.
Also tempted to buy the yaokong remote box but they (together with most other faction basic remotes) look terribly outdated.

Daily reminder that Haqqislam are filthy apostates and should be shot.

>And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.

>>
>>49568412
I get the feeling this guy goes out of his way to be an asshole.
He organizes "noob friendly" tournaments (like Limited Insertion + Mercs allowed) with ITS scenarios like Quadrant Control, Frontline or Annihilation and then comes in with a Marut + Scarface list. Or tends to "forget" that Diomedes does not in fact have BS14 or that Martial Arts do not give the model Multiterrain.
He's part of the reason why I actually stay away from local Infinity community.
>>
Can you move under terrain? I have some terrain like pipes that was off the ground, but not enough that a model can get under them. Can you just duck them like you can clear low walls and barriers?
>>
>>49568871
I don't think there is a rule. Technically prone models have S0, so they could, but I dunno about running under low obstacles as you can over ones. It's kind of an unusual terrain setup.
>>
>>49568871
You can go prone to go under it, if you can, if you can't fit through it with the silhouette itself than you can't move through it. At least, that's how I remember the answer to that question being on the forum.

said the base isn't "decent tabletop quality" and it could look at bit better. I'd give it a wash to make it look less flat and give it a light drybrush of the color its supposed to be.

He's looking good.
>>
>>49571162
The models are just oversized and have ugly ass helmets that spoil them. If they weren't a faulty CAD design they'd be better. Stats have fuck all to do with it.

Besides which, Keisotsu are a far more important sculpt to get re-done. The current ones are butt ugly, and pretty much all JSA players need them.

hi /tg/,

PanO newbie here. should I bother with Akalis commandos? my group is just starting out and they wanna do 200 pts. trying to figure out a good build to run, without killing the meta in its infancy.

I really like the idea of combat jumping troopers, but I don't know how valid they are. especially after looking at the mechanics of the jump.
should I always get a hacker to assist the jump?
what's the best use of the Akalis? should I grab a Spitfire or just go the suicide trooper route with a Boarding Shotgun?
is there a point of using more than one drop trooper, or should I forget about them altogether?
>>
>>49576274
>Should I Akali.
Yea, they're good.

>Assist the jump.
If you like, you're playing PanO anyway so if you're bringing along HI or robutts (you should be) you'll probably want 1 anyway.

>Best use.
HAcker/Shottie/Spitfire drop into a good position (preferably behind someone or otherwise outside their LoS) and start wrecking face.

>Multiple
Depends on how you play. A lot of people will say 1 is enough for PanO becuase you want to have enough orders to jam into your kill melting HI. 2 Can be sneaky though, a lot of players also like doing a jump and setting up a unexpected crossfire killzone.
>>
>>49576304
>hackers
I heard in N2 Kamau hackers were great, but I haven't heard a mention of them since.
what do you use nowadays? do you just bring some cheap hacker to spam supportware and exorcise your TAGs, or are assault hackers a valid asset in PanO?

>troops
what's your stance on Bagh-Mari? are they good line troopers for setting up ARO shooting? mimetism make it sound like they could survive a lot of shooting.
is it a good idea of bringing a bunch of mimetism/TO camo/ODD models to up my general survivability, or is it better to bring just cheap fodder and invest in a couple HI and TAGs?
>>
>>49576274
They're alright. No frills drop troops with good shooting skills.

>should I always get a hacker to assist the jump?
If you can. Half the time if you're using a combi or spitfire you'll want to walk the dude on using airborne infiltration because it takes the risk away completely.

>what's the best use of the Akalis?
The spitfire is a good secondary killy unit for you to pump orders into, the hacker is a good specialist and HI/TAG/REM stopper, the shotgun is good for cheaply murdering a bunch of backline troops before dying, and the often overlooked combi rifle can set up suppressive fire in a very inconvenient location to slow down the opponent's next turn. The E/Mitter might be okay for making the combi rifle more versatile against big dudes, I guess.

>is there a point of using more than one drop trooper
There can be, but I wouldn't use more than 1 at 200 points or more than 2 at 300 points. They don't provide orders until they're deployed on the table, so too many can leave you order starved in the early game.

Hacking was fundamentally changed. Usually a Fusilier hacker is enough, but for a drop troop list Evo Mulebot is great. As for Bagh-Mari, it's better to take them as a link in ASA. They are a bit too costly for cheerleaders. Sniper BM is Ace tho.

Anything that lives up to the hype. They went through all this stuff with cryptic messages in their site, through audio recordings, etc etc just to say Toni is alive? I cant think of why anyone would be super invested in her anyway (besides a unit profile).

Also I'm interested in Tagline and an ITS campaign, but I have zero interest in Toni's TAG, Eduardo. It's especially retarded that people really wanted Toni/Tikbalangs. Took a little over 6 years for CB to finally make them, but they killed off Toni...and now that Toni is dead and no long a profile, they're making a miniature for her.

Uhlan's OK. It's expensive though, you really need to get your money's worth out of camo.

Statistically, an ARM6 + Mimetism TAG is actually more survivable than an ARM8 TAG provided no MSV is involved.

The HMG is good, but the Fuerbach is a bit redundant. You do best by sniping at range in the thing, since it has no defense up close.

For general purpose use, the Tikbalang is far superior as it's cheaper, as capable except for Camo Mode, and is more mobile and has a close defense weapon.

Yes, I play in Brooklyn regularly. Where are you coming in from?
>>
>>49586539

Honestly, it depends what you already have, and what type of game you want to play. As long as you have a strong foundation, Haqqislam doesn't really have any 'trap' or 'must have' units. A strong foundation would be the Haqqislam starter, the remote box, and the support box. After that, you can build pretty much anything on top of it.
>>
>>49588373
Well I have the red veil models. an old djabanza hmg, the haqislam support pack and a fidey with boarding shotgun. There are so many models, I do not know what to buy next.

Remotes
>>
>>49588964
The remote box is always useful, other than that any of the following can be very useful and can fit in many vanilla Haqqislam lists.
Ghazi Muttawi'ah for cheap warbands with smoke grenades to combo with your Djanbazan.
Hassassin Barid for hacking.
Hunzakut for infiltration and mines shenanigans.
Saladin comes with Strategos level 3 which allows you to use your lieutenant order as a regular order and mess around with deployment.

>>
>>49589301
If I take Saladin, and make him my main man, how viable would it be to run 1-2 cheap hawza to holo project as him?

I also managed to get my hands on 3 old kum unicycles, for practicly free. I know that they are hard to control, but at 8pts for a cheap smoke laucher, how viable are they?

Not sure I can, get my hands on the ghazi right now.. But I'll remember that they are good.
>>
>>49589488
It would be a viable tactic. It's pretty much the only way to make a lieutenant decoy if you're taking Saladin, since there's no reason to take the non-Lt profile.

Kum are pretty good for throwing out smoke and direct templates, just don't expect them to live long. They're best used as early game cruise missiles.

How come the spitfire for the seraph is so huge, while the one for the father knight is so much smaller? They spitfires look exactly the same, just one is bigger than the other. Plus they have the exact same profile.

On that note, where does the nanopulser come from? From the canister under the spitfire?

>>
>>49591803
They're different in looks and fluff, but the same during play. It's a gameplay thing, if TAGs had extra special weapons they'd need to be even more expensive than they already are.

That's just the ammo. Nanopulsers tend to be hidden since you don't really need a barrel to shoot out hungry nanobots.

Why do so many HI wear coats and other assorted cloths? I'm particularly looking at Pan-O and Yu Jing. I'd think the cloth will get stuck in the joints, not to mention that it serves no protection and limits mobility.

Plus, its a massive pain in the arse to paint, especially the loincloths of the knights, where you have to do fancy designs.

Its almost like they ran out of ideas for HI armour, and decided to differentiate them with the jackets they wear over their armoured shell.
>>
>>49592000
Purely for badass appearance. Do remember much of Infinity is manga/anime inspired.

Though I do dislike feeling I have to free hand something when a wide blank space comes up on miniatures.
>>
>>49592000
I think they're fine, they're an excuse to paint something different than just another metal plate, and help say an Aquila Guard feel more elite than a lowly ORC.

>Its almost like they ran out of ideas for HI armour, and decided to differentiate them with the jackets they wear over their armoured shell.
That's exactly what they're doing, but not because they lack ideas for armor. In fluff there are only a few manufacturers that produce hi-tech armor and the pieces are somewhat standardized (as the saying goes, you see a PanO medium armor you've seen them all). So they add tabards and coats to differentiate troops and give them some character. The actual tactical usefulness of such things is still disputable though.
>>
>>49592000
If the armour is designed well the cloth won't get caught in the joints. What will get caught in joints is sand and dirt, which a good coat can shield you from. The right jacket can also can be good for insulation if you're hanging out on Svalarheima. Even robots and power armoured super soldiers don't like being cold, it forces the power supply to work harder and can freeze up joints.

Mostly they're just there to look cool and intimidating though. The tabards are completely pointless.
>>

Tabards would do the same thing they always did.

It could protect the armour from sand in a desert environment. Sand gets absolutely everywhere with a bit of wind, makes sense to put cloth over armour. I think ditto for heat in cold weather, although with space power-armours this may seem a bit silly (then again Nisses are MI, not HI).

A humanoid TAG sort of makes sense if you're fighting in and around buildings that they can actually climb, hide and hunt around. Better than tracked, which can be easily ambushed and destroyed, of the flat TAGs of haqq that seems like it'll have a lot of difficulty climbing.

Plus, TAG mecha seem the right size for the largest realistic mecha, due to the square foot rule. They've created larger mecha IRL.

Is it worth it to bring a TAG at all? Non-specialist and can easily be possessed, isolated, or immobilised by hackers out of LoF with no defence. You got to waste 1-2 orders to reset.

Plus, on the rare chance you lose a face-to-face roll with an adhesive launcher, without an engineer, its almost a one-hit kill on the TAG, but to be honest, if you let him kill your engineer then shoot adhesive at your TAG, you almost deserve it...
>>
>>49598448
You need to paint in a colour other than black, use much much thinner highlights, and thin your paints till you get better. Its much easier to paint a non-black (preferably blue, the easiest) colour till you get good with highlights and shading, and can visualise where and how the light will hit the model.

You also need to probably drop complex freehand till you get brush control down. The easiest thing you can do is write the Chinese character 死 which means death, with a sakura micron, should you want to freehand something.

IDK, instead of painting your thins, use a wet palette. Use the standard GW method, basecoat, shade, then put on 2-3 highlights. Get 3 brushes, and only use them. A size 2 for everything other than the final highlight, plus it'll train your brush control well. The finest brush you can get, and a flat brush for drybrushing. Spend more on the brushes, especially the size 2, and invest in a brush soap.

Painting black is very hard. I personally paint dark grey, wash black, and do 2 highlights. Even then, the black highlight is a bit funky, you can't do it like the normal colours, with light source, but sort of highlight every single edge, but give bigger and lighter highlights to the sides with the light source.
>>
>>49596583
Probably something about traction on loose sandy soils.
>>
>>49600288
>You need to paint in a colour other than black
Couldn't, as it's a Hac Tao, black in its very name. Other stuff comes out fine, I just had to bite the bullet with this one as I only had grey primer so I knew it was going to come out subpar. It's just the one unit and I don't know how often I'll use it.

I do use as wet palette and am working on thinner highlights. I thin it through a medium and do multiple coats, and try to clean up with the base color if needed. Thank you for the tips though. Will try to keep it in mind. Yeah, I do need some brush soap, my normal brushes are starting to fray a bit despite my efforts in not making my skin touch their tips and watering them consistently.
>>
>>49600180
It all depends on your tactics with it. In Limited Insertiom, TAGs can just dominate the board. Also It's actually not that easy to hurt a TAG through hacking. It's hard enough against HI. Even with ADHL, TAGs have a high PH save against it. EM is pretty dangerous, but EM isnt super common. Even against Possession, people seem to forget that it can be cancelled by spending a Command Token. And remember that, you're opponent most likely has to spend several orders to stop it.

Like I said, it's all about tactics. You've already pointed out those weakness; now spend your orders carefully just like you would with any other trooper. And if you're bringjng a TAG you ought to bring an Engineer with a G:Servant. Also not all TAGs play completely the same: a Sphinx would play very differently from a Jotum.
>>
>>49600494
probably need brush soap. Can see your lines are thick and shaky. Probably because the tip is not clean and doesn't let the paint flow down. With a good brush, you can just touch the tip to the model, and the paint should flow down. If your brush is less than $20, dump it.

With regards to the external muscle fibers, the one you painted blue-green, the highlighting is too thick, too unnatural, and the lines not contrasting/clear enough. Use the darkest blue ink/shade you can find for that, shade it, then overbrush/wetbrush/drybrush the highlight colour. I prefer over/wetbrushing to drybrushing as it gives slightly more control, but you need to be very delicate so as not to mess up the shaded lines.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUnRvZGOars&list=PLB0292071C3B38CAC&index=105

"metallics" (In this case, the blue-green musculature) do not really need highlighting, just the method I told you about above. Should greatly improve the look of the miniature. In this case, not too late to ink the musculature and re-do it, no need to strip it.

Unfortunately if you are bringing a T.A.G. your list will be built around support that element or it will be a very expensive high priority target.

Things like TR REMs, Defensive Fire Teams, and Mines/WB are great deterrents. They go a long way to ensuring the survival of your T.A.G.

For OCF, utilizing all of those elements and a supported Combat Jumper can help with most Hackers. Infiltrating Camo Hackers or Infiltrators with Repeaters are always going to be difficult to deal with.

This is my example of supporting a T.A.G.

Onyx Contact Force

Squalo - boring sculpt; the gun is especially awful. Also fairly boring on the table; the HGL being the most interesting thing about it.
Jotum - ugly and unsubtle like a brick to the face, but very reliable. This is what a heavy should feel like.
Dragao - feared like hell despite never doing all that much.
Tikbalang - a versatile beauty. It's very quickly becoming my favorite TAG and a absolute cornerstone for my ASA.
Uhlan - lovely sculpt but mostly pointless; anything it does some other model does way better. Anything the Tikbalang is for ASA the Uhlan fails to be for NCA.
- Xeodrons - mostly bought them because I find the various CA *drons sexy, but they are also solid in the table thanks to Haris. A nice, agressive link to complement a defensive Unidron one.
Geckos - I don't even play nomads, I just love the design of these. To be honest, they could do with a second box for more guns, like one with a Heavy Shotgun and one with a Feuerbach.

Fair point, I do like the Red Veil HMG Hsien a lot, so I can see where you're coming from.
Especially since it's only 4 points (and 2 SWC) more expensive, and the Multi Crane is an older sculpt, especially compared to the Spitfire Crane.

>Question, how well do vanilla armies fare against sectorials?
It kind of depends on what vs what. Vanilla Haqq is pretty powerful due to Fiday + Saladin combo, makes it easy to kill of a key model or mine a link's path. Vanilla Nomads lets you bring an HD+ and two Morans, although Corregidor is pretty damn powerful because Hacking is not the end-all-be-all.

>Also what stops people from doing silly bullshit like bringing 30+ units and winning via shit loads of dice?
No one playing with them and, in tournament environment, time limits. There was a guy like that in my meta, he cooled off a bit with 30+ order lists.
Most armies can't pull this off effectively though and good ARO pieces will shut them down.
>>
>>49602951
>Is there a comprehensive list of what has/will be getting resculpts?
No and CB is not telling anyone what they are resculpting till the last moment, not to hurt sales.
>>
>>49602951
Link teams are very strong, but they're not invincible and sectorials tend to be limited in other ways. Some combinations of units in vanilla armies can be very powerful. CA in particular works best with a mix of different races.

Good defensive play can be a decent counter to spammy lists, but mainly it's the fact that people will eventually refuse to play you or force you to use a turn timer. The game wasn't made for 30+ units per side, so with too many orders it moves at a glacial pace.
>>
>>49602951
Regarding your second question (I'll leave the vanilla-vs-sectorial to someone more insightful than me), no there is not a comprehensive list, Corvus Belli likes to surprise us with the most unespected releases, and sometimes frustrate us delaying the most expected ones.
You may have noticed looking at the online catalog that the model quality has gone up a lot in these latter years due to the company adopting a digital sculpting model, thus standardizing a lot of things like weapon scales. (the size of minis has somewhat increased as well).
The resculpts are steadily rolling in among new releases to bring old, outdated mini to the current digital standard.

>Looks like a good time to get into the game if model resculpts are coming out.
Absolutely, actually it's what I've done. I started some months ago and now I'm slowly biulding an army with almost only "modern" quality minis. It helps that my chosen faction is in the middle of a release spree this year, but there's something for everyone.

I was hazarding a guess of ORCs getting a box like Janissaries and Brigada did, but now I'm not sure. If it happens, it probably will be next year, with Varuna release. Assuming they don't just toss HMG ORC into the starter.
I am holding off getting BS ORC because I'm hoping for a Tinbot in a box. Y'know, Shotty, HMG, Hacker and Tinbot all in one box and with the Starter ORC that's all ORCs you need.

Although an MSR ORC would be hilarious
>>
>>49603758
Seems like valid stuff. Army painter take western euro prices for painted models, which means that, if someone is not earning money in western europe, then having a table top painted army, is like buying 1/2 an additional army. Which may not seem much, if someone already bought an army. But it is very hard convince oneself to do, when you have not already bought all the models needed to play.

They used CAD freelancers long before, I think O-Yoroi is one of the first, as TAGs were pretty hard to sculpt on hand/take long time, and Jose Luis Roig did all of them + all PanO + some other, so TAG releases were rare at the time. After O-Yoroi it was all TAGs + some remotes dibe in CAD before they switched to it fully. This means less freelancer work to fill the release schedule = cheaper and more consistent production.
>>
>>49604406
As much as I wish it was true, am not trying to bait anyone. Maybe I should add in my country, but that is how any table top game is played around here. Sure there are people with painted armies, and they offten look great. But the people that own those armies painters or ex-painters.
And playing with tokens would totaly be a thing, if store owners would allow it. People play with weight recasts for a lot of systems anyway. Not of infinity, but I would say that most armies for WFB/W40k are recast. we are probably the 3ed recast country after China and russia.

I think in the rest of the world, most people paint.

Also, infinity is definitely on the cheaper scale of wargames, and painting is at least 80% of the hobby for many, and people who just pick it up to paint and not play are not unusual. There's a group of guys who do nothing but paint infinity. They know the rules, but has never played a game in their life, strangely.

Plus, stripping infinity miniatures are extremely easy, because its metal.

Quads are perfect for stable weapons platform, but bipeds with arms are more versatile and agile.

Haqq using quads mostly because its cheaper and they're lack of robotic fibermuscles technique. And they're more inclined to put much of the heavier firepower on HI's or homemade universal soldiers.

So its purely preferential.

I'm reading that some of you here have 5-10 TAGs, but I really can't understand the appeal of TAGs in this game. What's the point in taking a TAG? I feel taking one pigeonholes a list too much: you just spent roughly 1/3 of your points in the beast, but now you have to support it so you take multiple hackers and engineers in case it gets possessed or glued or goes kaboom, you need to stock on cheap cheerleaders to feed it orders but need to bring specialists, and more guns because despite costing a fortune the TAG can't do everything alone, and all this concurs to greatly limit list flexibility.
It's putting all the eggs in a basket: sure, it's a fucking armored basket, but a basket nonetheless.

Idk every time I try to incorporate a TAG in a list I can't seem to find a balance, it feels like too great of an investment, a high risk - high reward gamble. And I don't particularly like the look of my faction's TAGs.

So /tg/, sell me on TAGs. Why should I give them a chance?
>>
>>49609201
>multiple hackers and engineers
Unneeded. One of each. You can get by without the hacker if you really have to. A few servant remotes will do the rest.
>stock on cheap cheerleaders
Maybe 1-3. Same as any list, really. What a TAG does is really just turn 2 HI into 1 bigger HI. List composition doesn't have to be too drastically affected, you need to check the same boxes.
>can't seem to find a balance
Keep at it, it's out there.
>give them a chance why
Because they're the embodiment of the Infinity system. They are power at a point, and they make use of the order system to it's most efficient extreme. And critically, they have the speed to get where they need to go. They're brutal on offence, and require care to attack, particularly with some careful defensive deployment.
>>
>>49609201
Things with TAGs is that unless your opponent is prepared to fight one, he will have a hard time putting it down. Most people prefer their high BS platforms to mount HMGs, Spitfires or HRLs, all stuff that a TAG can shrug off.

>It's putting all the eggs in a basket: sure, it's a fucking armored basket, but a basket nonetheless
Except a TAG cannot be a specialist. So it forces your opponent to either go for the small specialists, leaving himself potentially open to a TAG rampage or go after the TAG, ignoring specialist and potentially not even taking it down due to it's high ARM.
>>
>>49609201
Also your opponent pretty much has to bring things to directly counter it.

Sure, they likely have an assault hacker, but unless you're walking into a repeater web they have to get dangerously close to possess it and even then a single command token cancels it. The other direct counters, ADHLs and stuff like Panzerfausts, aren't all that commonly used in my experience. TAGs don't have much of a presence in the game so people don't bring the tricks to hate them readily.

Of course, depending on your locals, it could be different as well as people adapting when you manage to sweep hard with a TAG one day.
