Here's the link again to the Spellburst Savant. I've added in a Spell Channeling/Infuse Arrow-type ability for the gun witch, in the hopes that that will help bridge the gap some (if only by giving them another option for gun-magic than full attacks). The sidebar about arcane archery is superfluous now, so it's been removed.

Otherwise, I'm out for a while. Seeing bits of Augunas' new book has made me incredibly skeeved out, as well as embarrassed and horrified to be publishing in the same industry as him.

Just... Ugh.

It's an idea I've been tossing around for a while, but never made any real progress on. Hell, as long as we're on the subject, what would you suggest as a starting point? I considered starting with another level of vestiges, so that they map more cleanly to the 9-level spellcasting progression, but I'm kind of iffy on whether that's even necessary.

Other than that, all I know so far is that I want to up their effectiveness overall and give them a couple more "toys" to play around with, in the form of relatively minor abilities (think the cantrip-like constellation powers from the Radiance House stuff).

Okay, so Malefex update: got all the feedback from the last two threads gathered up and will be doing edits tomorrow/Sunday and writin' s'more malefactions at that time.

To the guy suggesting a retraining clause on Know-It-All I have to say that I still have absolutely no idea what you're getting at here. Right now the ability has you pick two Knowledges that you do NOT have ranks in, then gives you max ranks in 'em that continue to scale up as you level. I'm not sure where retraining would come in here or what it is you're getting at, so if you could walk me through what I'm missing here I'd be very grateful. I don't doubt that you're seeing a problem, I'm just not seeing it myself.

I think one of the issues he's bringing up is that you can't pick a previous skill. What if you have all the knowledges with at least one point?

And while it's a lesser concern, a purely feel-one as opposed to a mechanical one, what if you want the 'auto-scaling' skills to be a specific ones?

Like if you've got a Know: Arcana guy. His thing is knowing the magic shit. It'd make sense for that to be one of his skills he'll ALWAYS have at max. It works out mechanically the same, but something to think about.

ALSO something mechanically the same is just letting people pick whatever skill and then retrain previous skill ranks. Why does it HAVE to be ones you don't have ranks in? Either way (No ranks only or retrain skill ranks) It works out to the same overall benefit. One way (Yours) is just a lot clunkier.

You know, the sad thing is I'm really not. A bit bitter, yes, terminally sarcastic, certainly, but generally optimistic. I've noticed the trend in my design myself but I will note that a lot of my content that isn't base classes is non-edgy and/or even upbeat and optimistic! It just doesn't really get as much attention/love.

Plus I'm sorta counting Lords of the Night out of the running because the edge is a feature there.

Operation "fuck that one guy, you're not getting nice things from me" and "scrape out the remaining fun" is a go for my Sunday game. I refuse to let one person's whiny bitch fit ruin an entire campaign.

Other game has been pretty good, though that's mostly just because the GM is fun. I'm not really sold on Iron Gods so far, even if Val a cute. Still struggling with actually doing any damage whatsoever as well, since everything has completely dicked over rapiers. The RotRL campaign that died might get a reboot sometime. Fingers crossed for rebooting with Gestalt to make up for only having half a party.

The main problem I'm seeing is that, if you don't pick the Know-It-All option at first level, you're at this awkward crux where the knowledge skills you actually invested in (and therefore should be well-versed in) are precisely the skills you CAN'T get maxed-out for "free". Instead, you suddenly become extremely-knowledgeable about a subject you knew nothing about beforehand.

The Paladin archetype is all about predicting enemies and enacting countermeasures to protect your party with the mechanic that replaced Mercies.

Monk Archetype is all about being Jude Mathis+Lee Sin with you hopping around debuffing enemies while jumping to protect allies. It's a less cheesy Warder.

Dread is a Debuffer, less stronk than Harbinger.


Alternatively you can use books other than Path of War since it sounds like a well built inquisitor was beyond what you guys intended for your game balance. In that case I suggest Alternate Paths Martial Classes, Liber Influxus Communis, Akashic Mysteries, or New paths Compendium for material.

Okay, but, flip side - if you're investing in those Knowledges with ranks, are they not already maxed? Doing the retraining option just gives you the different and slightly harder to explain problem of suddenly having those ranks (if you pick one you already have been investing in) in skills you previously didn't possess.

Like. Why would you have Knowledges /not/ at the skill cap for your level, is what I suppose I'm getting at here. Because it seems like that appears to be the objection but I don't...really...get it.

Not really, I feel like i'm stressing my DM out because i operate really oddly due to being able to negate most forms of damage completely and helping my team do it.

I want something mobile that isn't stuck doing the same thing every turn. I rolled a Bushi once and boy i was just stuck doing the same two maneuvers every turn. That was boring.

Admittedly, most knowledges you'd want would be maximized! But if you're already maxing-out Perception, Sense Motive, Bluff, Intimidate, and Disable Device (for instance), that's 5 of your skill ranks each level. You're probably going to want a rank or two in Climb, Swim, etc. to make sure they're not untrained, you might want to spread out your Knowledges somewhat, and so on. Also, what if a different SoHK ability caught your fancy at 1st level, so you had to invest ranks in the Knowledge skill you wanted? It's now completely-unselectable with Know-It-All.

my DM banned my Dread/AntiPali because I can hit 30 intimidate at 8th level, drop everyone's resistance to fear by -8, debuff everyone with shaken, frightened, panicked, sickened, diseased, fatigued and exhausted every round to the point of breaking encounters.

I get worse by 11th level when I get the Shadow Twin class feature

...I admit that I wasn't at my sharpest yesterday and completely misinterpreted what you said about how you -must- pick knowledges you have no ranks in. You can ignore >>49248883 and what I said about wasting ranks.

Though I do agree with >>49270751 : any knowledge skills the player really wanted would already have ranks in them, and probably any knowledge skills they'd think were at all useful would have at least one rank so they don't take untrained check penalties. Especially with all knowledge skills as class skills, there's compelling reason to have at least 1 skill point in all of them.

As it is, forcing it to be two things you have no ranks in means that if it's something you -plan- to take later but don't have yet, you need to intentionally suck it up and deal with having no ranks in the two skills until then, or pay money to use the retraining rules to 'empty them out' before leveling up.

Shadow Twin and Twin Fear needed to not happen. Dread has significant mechanical and identity issues that are somehow saved by its manifesting and terrors. This is a thing that needs to be kept in mind when thinking about the design of dread archetypes.

>What was the manliest character you've ever seen or played with?
I did this barbarian once, everytime when he leveled up I rolled really well. Like all tens and up. Combined with a high con build and invulnerable rager, he was the tankiest character I've played. I also had draconic totem for wings, come and get me and those 3.5 feats from Ultimate Warrior that let you shred through magic defenses. So it was just this crazy son of a gun that walked through minions, shrugging off AoOs, then when he reached the caster he would look him in the eye and go "I dare you. I double dog dare you, motherfucker."

Skillwise I had high Initmidation, basic for barbarians, but also high Spellcraft and Knowledge: Arcane, because he was a mage hunter, and to annoy our sorcerer because my barbarian and group bard knew more about magic than he did.

Highlights:
>Rampaged through a wizard party as a distraction while the group stealthed away. Finally got knocked out wwhile getting away, was dragged by the druid in air elemental form, got convinced that he had sleepwalked back to base.
>Party met some demon or shadow creature that the DM hinted was way over our level. It roared and intimidated the whole party (maybe Aura of Fear? Pretty sure it was a homebrew monster by the DM) except for me (nat 20 on Will save). Roared back at the monster, rolled 19 on Intimidate, made the DM laugh, so he he said the monster was stunned by my bravery for one round. Plenty of time to catch up to the fleeing party laughing like crazy.
>When surrounded by the minions of an evil princess of the fae, ran through four ents, eating the AoOS, grabbed the princess, was full attacked by one ent, ran back to the party, eating the AoOs again, jumped inside a cave, powerbombing the princess to break the fall while the party druid and sorcerer used spells to seal the cave and then, with 5 hp left, sacrificed the fae on the same alter she had been using to sacrifice humans.

If you're focusing on blasting, Spell Focus (Evocation) would work well, but if you're going for more of a controller or don't want to spend a feat for +1 to DCs, there's always Spell Focus.

Toughness is useful while you're still in rusty dagger shanktown. Even if you had 16 Con and your FCB in HP, Toughness would still increase your health by 30% at 1st level. It still won't save you from the orc greataxe crit, but it could definitely do so against a regular attack.

If you can't retrain it later then yeah its usefulness drops hard.

I need a few more players for my campaign. We're just finishing up the first adventure, and about to sink our teeth into the meat of the campaign.

This is a kingdom building game, with loadsa emphasis on characters and politics. It's set in a fantasy Roman Empire, just before the decline of the Empire.

Well I just had my first character reincarnated /tg/. My tengu alchemist got 100 to 0'd by a drow fighter crit and then ironically brought back as a drow. This is made even better as half the party has PTSD from time spent in the underdark but at least I've got Ignoble form to keep me from being the general populaces enemy #1. Okay so.

FIrst off, the +whatever numeric bonuses are the same thing as enchantments, and you add the number and the value of the special qualities together to get the total value of the weapon.

For instance, Flaming is a +1 quality, so a +1 Flaming weapon would be a total of +2, so you'd look at how much +2 costs on the table.

With 1PP only, the cheapest you can get is 25% with normal Downtime mechanics, or 15% with a Horn of Magical Plenty (because it converts 60gp's worth of Goods into 100gp's worth of Magic, but you're only actually paying 30gp to get it), modified further by two multiplicative reductions of 5% from traits.

You can also get to 25% if you are in a nation that sells slaves. Because most GMs think of gestalt as simply mashing two classes together, when instead it's giving the player a huge slew of options with no more action economy to use them.

The Gestalt Mythic game I played in was great fun. Rogue VMC Monk 15+Witch 15+7th Tier Trickster - an ancient and frail elven lady who owned a moutain and minded diamonds and silver from it, and was considered a goddess by the local gnoll tribe, while being a renegade user of magic who barely fit into civilization any longer.

The party consisted of myself and:
The Fighter 2/Gunslinger 5/Psychic Warrior 8+Arcanist 15 Human with Tier 7 Archmage. Total Chaotic Stupid slut who shot first and never bothered to ask questions.
The Alchemist 15+Fighter15 Tier 7 Champion Neutral Dickhead Strix who specialized so heavily into the Steal manuver no one could hold anything in hand without him taking it from them. Including the party.

Bard 15+Swashbuckler 5/Brawler 10 Tier 7 Guardian Half Elf, Neutral Good and total party buffer, who styled herself after Lady Gaga and played that role to the hilt. He was the least troublesome member of the party.

Then of course you had the attempted minmaxed Wizard 15+Druid 15 Tier 7 Chaotic Stupid Archmage who believed everything /tg/ tells people about both wizards and druids, and couldn't understand why an unoptimized character like mine could manage to outdo him though careful consideration and forethought instead of 'hit the I win buttons' like he was suppose to be able to do.

The game was better than half the people I played with.

Mythic's nasty on prepared casters because it nullifies the drawbacks of prepared spells pretty handily.

Honestly, Wizard//Arcanist with Fast Study and, importantly, a merged spellbook, can bring the hammer down in combat with their mythic power and prepare mostly utility spells in their actual slots, leaving a few open to fill in as needed.

Well, if DSP is on the table it's a different story.

Dual-path Archmage/Overmind Psychic Mage Wizard//Telepath (with psyref) has a HUGE PP pool, and if your GM allows items that grant maneuvers a la 3.5e, you can pick up the 5th level Sleeping Goddess stance fairly early on to allow your Telepathy powers to penetrate immunity.

There are only trans peasants in Pathfinder. Anyone with even a moderate amount of money can simply buy an item to immediately become completely the other sex physically. There's people who swap between them repeatedly for the fun of it. If you decide you'd rather be the opposite sex forever, you just do it, and if you change your mind later you go back.

It's just one shitty dev that thinks it's somehow a compelling thing to write about and injects it into everything. It can be ignored.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; the vast majority of trans folks don't care about whatever "struggle" people are going through. If you offered them the option to swap sex, they wouldn't whinge and complain about it. they'd take you up on the offer immediately (assuming there's no side-effects or chance for complications) and get on with their fucking lives.

Unless there's some serious reason you can't do it ("My father is a tyrant and he'll have me gutted if I change") then it's just bad writing for anyone in the pathfinder world, especially adventurers, not to be following their desires on this.

It basically is the same thing. One of the flaws with it is that basically anybody can join. There's usually multiple GMs with one or two guys who control the setting in a larger way and resolve contradictions, and set the chargen rules. It's fairly restrictive on sub-GMs, who can't do whatever they want, and games tend to reward GMs either too little or too much.

And the houserules. God, there's always too many houserules.

I guess I'm just immensely spoiled by all these other classes with sizeable list(s) of talents and a dozen amazing and/or fun archetypes to pick from. Trying to build an Oracle feels like torture after spending so long with the Alchemist, Vigilante, and Magus, even if there's technically just as many ways to build one and it even ends up far better.
