Overall, I'm really impressed. I think this set is going to be a lot of fun to draft and ideally might shake up Modern. The art's also beautiful

As far as hydras go, I really like Blistering Hydra. Works with other set mechanics and gives itself hexproof? What's not to like? The Modules are pretty cool too

The point of Reservoir isn't too storm 9 in one turn.
The point is too storm 4 for 3 turns in a row and then win on the 4th turn. That's what makes Reservoir so unique: no other 'storm' card lets you storm over multiple turns.

See, being able to include Planeswalkers in the story without printing them as cards is a cheat to use in case they want a character involved but something is keeping them from wanting a planeswalker in their colors or another printing of the same walker too recently after an earlier one.

What that means is that it's a way out of awkward situations, not an invitation to do it all the time constantly. They're going to use this to allow for corner situations where one gets left out, not to stuff ten planeswalkers in one block's story and only print half of them.

That's because you're imagining it in a storm shell, when it actually belongs in a pillowfort/control shell.
You use Eidolon of Blossoms for card draw, Arbor Elf and that one mana forrest enchantment for ramp, all the good white pillowfort enchantments to slow the game down, and Reservoir as a finisher.

This deck might even make it into legacy, where you have cards like Argothian Enchantress and Enchantress' presence to add redundancy.

The card didn't even see huge amounts of play.

It was fringe played outside of RDW in R+X midrange decks, but those got delegated to sideboard slots most of the time, and in R/W Aggro.
I don't remember Wild Slash being a 4-of in either of those decks.

After Theros rotated, nobody played that card anymore. Fiery Impulse was just strictly better, because it could also kill 3 toughness creatures.
Shock was never a good card, it's always been constructed filler.

Murderous Cut sees play. Jeskei Ascendancy saw play, and for awhile was though brokenly good until people figured out how to disrupt it. Wild Slash was very good and still sees some edge play.

With life it's easier to tell, because before it's typically written "pay x life", while after it's "lose x life".

But if you see "Discard a card :blah blah blah" you need a card in hand, if it says "blah blah : discards a card blah blah" you can do that with no cards in hand.

That they are, they also go totally nuts ina SLiver Deck with Artificial Evolution, Mycosynth Lattice and Darksteel Forge.

Admittedly the last two are to protect the combo from things that go boom or fart it out of existence. But the real meat of the combo is using Artificial Evolution to make the Animation Module produce Slivers...instead of Servos. Which means that they will be affected by any other Slivers you control. As you can tell, this is gonna get pretty crazy.

Maro said it'd be 50% returns and that we'd both get a third return to Ravnica and Zendikar. We also know that there'll be a return to Theros and a return to New Phyrexia, which Kaladesh likely sets up. That should be one of the biggest story events in the near future.

Right now we have the following blocks in production:

>Soup
>Spaghetti
>Milk

All these blocks share a naming theme, so its my guess they share a storyline, which matches Wizards making the blocks more interconnected through the Gatewatch and whatnot. These blocks cover from fall 2017 to summer 2019 and come right after two new planes, so odds are 2/4 or 3/4 are returns, but which?

Ham and Eggs will definitely be the first return, coming fresh from two new planes in a row the odds they introduce a third in a row right after announcing there'd be more returns is close to nonexistent. If the Sivagat leak held any truth this could be Ravnica 3 and truth is we've seen a few URs about shit happening there.

The second return will probably be Spaghetti and Meatballs. I think so because Maro said it was the set he was most excited about despite it also being one in the earliest phases of development. If it were a new plane they'd still be figuring out the block as a whole, so odds are we are going back somewhere big and that's why Maro's hyped about it.

Then, if Ham and Spaghetti are returns then Soup and Salad must be a new plane or we'd have three returns in a row (very unlikely).

Milk and Cookies is the last block left and the only one that might be either a return or a new plane. I'm leaning towards a return because Maro said return to Kamigawa was undergoing exploratory design, though that might take even longer.

With all this information at hand my guess for each of these blocks is:

Amonkhet gives us a very clear spoiler of what is going to happen in future sets from what we know about it. Specially considering Hour of Devastation. Shit's pretty clearly hitting the fan hardcore.

We got Bolas as a mayor character here, and he'll obviously pull some insane bullshit as he "unleashes his endgame" and be all like "all according to Keikaku". Not too different from Alara in a way.

All of this has quite a few indications, first of all, Amonkhet will serve to cement Bolas as the Gatewatch's archenemy and thus will get away for at the very least 1 more confrontation.

Bolas being in Amonkhet means we'll have him be shelved for a while, this is because you cannot have Bolas play an active role in a set and not give him a card. Thus the soonest he can show up is Spaghetti, when Amonkhet Bolas rotates out of Standard. I doubt he shows up before Milk though and I don't expect to see him there either. Though it might happen if Milk really is Kamigawa 2.

Finally, Amonkhet having an apocalyptic second set means both Ham and Soup will have compareatively lowkey plots similar to the transition from Eldritch Moon to Kaladesh. This is so they can have variance in story conflicts so the audience isn't tired of it when the crazy block, Spaghetti, hits.
