Jumpers!

What is something you have stolen for stupid reasons?

Thats a nice pen you have there, it would be a shame if it went missing.

Tell me about your perk combos. Not the commonly used ones like idiot magician and final form but the more unique and exotic ones.

Jump 79: Neon Genesis Evangelion
>Page of Cups (An unexpected new relationship that is playful and spontaneous.)
...Not sure I want to even know the details, though it's inevitable.
>Age: 25
>Location: Kyoto-2, 2006
>Identity: Pattern Orange
>Drawbacks: You I, II, and III (+200), Apostate (+300), A Dark Pantheon (+300)
This definitely won't end badly at ALL. Nope.
>Superscale Skills (1200)
I'll be working on many large projects in the future. I may as well get a leg up on that now.
>Waveform Anatomy (1100)
Huh, well. This stacks ridiculously well with being a Ditto. I've definitely got strong self-image covered, though. Perhaps I don't have to drink the tang if someone offers.
>Hybrid (900)
Non-euclidean form you say? Yeah, I think as a jumper it's very safe to say that I have one of those.
>AT Field Mastery (500)
This is about as close as I'm ever going to get to getting anything from Elfen Lied, so I'll just have to be be satisfied with this. No Pattern Ultraviolet, however, so any use of the AT field is going to be picked up by NERV.
This also works in my favor - any use my clone(s) make of that will be picked up as well.
>Genre Savior (200, Pattern Orange)
This is what I came to the jump for. This is the only perk I'm even getting from the Pattern Orange list, but I'll be damned if I'll compromise to leave this behind. Beside, any other build leaves me with an extra hundred points. I'll deal with it as I am now.
>Secondary Field (0)
Extra flexibility with my AT field is definitely a helpful thing.
>>
>>48073014
I took Batmans grandfather clock. My batcave replica is now far more authentic.
>>

So, my first mistake was running afoul of SEELE. I'm lucky that what they got from me was only enough to clone me with the abilities from this jump, and not the others. Fortunately... whatever the cause from that, they weren't usable as Evangelion pilots - they didn't cause the same berserker effect that I get if I get within a hundred meters of them, but they're no use as pilots or dummy plugs - they're inert. So instead, the end result is that SEELE has someone who can use an AT field as a last resort, and use it flexibly.

Fortunately for me, they can't use it openly because they can't hide its use. Activating the AT field sets off alarms, so such clones can only use them in a heavily shielded location. Basically... until the endgame, these clones are of use only as operatives. Unfortunately, SEELE having Rei-alikes that can learn from their mistakes means that by the time endgame comes, these clones are going to be highly competent.

In any event, dicking with SEELE is fun. Derailing things entirely is undesirable, but I made sure that there were a few breadcrumbs I could put in various places to make things a bit better.

The right few words to a kid in school, for example, can cause them to sit back and reconsider how they approach life. The right few words to a woman in college can do the same. I basically lived my life as best I could, giving nudges here and there to try and make others' lives easier. Though one mercy I did make sure to grant was to ensure that Asuka was not the one to find her mother's body.

In mid-October, 2015, the Mass Production Evangelion were sent down - ostensibly to help deal with Leliel, who had consumed Unit 01. It made for a good excuse, and was a better plan than dropping 992 N2 bombs on Tokyo-3. Instead, however, Unit 01 emerged, slaughtered the angel... and the MP Evangelions charged him instead. Rei and Asuka charged in to try and help, but three against nine is extremely grim odds.

>>
>>48073049
>>48073052
Should we make a new one? You know people are going to have trouble finding this if there's no jump in the subject.
>>
>>48073028
On a related note: Bypassing AT fields is possible, but it requires one of three things. Either an AT field of your own of sufficient strength, a weapon of sufficient strength (on the order of a focused energy weapon or a very high-yield detonation), or an out-of-context weapon. You see, Evangelions are alive. It turns out that a killing curse, when one has amped it up sufficiently because they've all gone berserk and are targeting you on foot, can most certainly make them cease being alive. No shield can stop that, after all, and I have artifacts and the raw power to cast a killing curse that is indeed strong enough to kill an Evangelion. Of course, I then had to flee from the remaining three berserk Evangelion with human pilots, but otherwise it worked well.

NERV had been betrayed by SEELE before the endgame had even come. I was a relative unknown - just a guy with an apartment downtown, after all, who worked at a convenience store that had been stomped flat months before and never found another job since. I spoke with Gendo (unsurprisingly with myself at gunpoint) and told him that the dead sea scrolls are not the end-all-be-all of prophecy, fate is a thing best ignored by beings with free will, and promptly left - after all, no one wards against apparition.

Aside from letting things progress as expected - NERV still had a job to do even if SEELE was acting up - I kept my head down. Zeruel came and went. Shinji got in the fucking robot and got stuck. They pulled him out, eventually, but before that happened, the MP Evas came again on Ritsuko's 31st birthday in November.

As it turns out, they react very poorly to being befriended, too. Who knew?
>>
>>48073059
They're still a Jump in the post text, that still come up when the ctrl + f.
>>
>>48073079
The shitty part was that I was submitting a properly formatted thread when this guy posted his. If not for him we'd have everything in order.
>>
>>48073060
After that happened I basically went 'fuck it' and started meddling further. Part of it was out of necessity, since at the end of the series things get stupidly dark, but I intended to use Genre Savior to ensure that we got the Noblebright 'Humanity, Fuck Yeah' ending that everyone deserved. This included dealing with one of my clones, who was not bothering to hide himself as he attempted to enter NERV. The only problem with that is that my clones do not have precognition and I do, so that particular conflict was very short.

Kaworu was sent in as a backup pilot as Asuka didn't have a breakdown (she was made of sterner stuff and things went better with Arael) so he sat on the sidelines, it was pointed out to Gendo that if Shinji can get out of the robot then everyone else who went into the robot can get out of the robot, and they started looking forward to the end of the conflict. The remaining angels went as scheduled - Kaworu was put down by Shinji as expected, with Shinji considering him a coward for the angel of free will being too frightened by the prospect of having to exercise it.

In the wake of that, SEELE attempted to drop all of those remaining N2 mines on Tokyo-3 in an attempt to level it. With three Evangelions working together, they were able to manifest AT fields that directed the detonation upward and away from the city, at the cost of incapacitating them afterward. The army was sent in, with one of my clones leading a contingent, and the MP Evas charged in for the third and final time as well.

Having known the attack was coming, NERV headquarters' corridors were filled with bakelite. I don't know how much most people know about it, but it's a plastic. The only way you're going to get in is with effort, ripping plastic out constantly, and it was still hot enough to burn them if and when they tried - my clone was the only one who made headway.
>>
>>48073115
While I was topside dealing with the MP Evas, the soldiers were all following my clone, who was making his way down the path of least resistance. This put them in the cage. Which had three Evangelions online. The soldiers were all crushed like bugs. NERV had no casualties.

My clone managed to escape and run back topside, mission failed, and found me waiting for him atop a pile of Evangelion corpses.

>You know, it's a shame. You have so much potential, and I don't want to fight you. But do you know what?

>What?

>Accio spear.

>What the hell is an accio spear? Is that half-assed Latin or something? Wait, why are you looking at me like-

And then the clone was erased by the Lance of Longinus, which I quietly disappeared before I went inside to celebrate with the rest of them.

Well. I made myself into the indestructable Skellyton?

Start with Symbiote, for fractal-pattern carbon nanotube bones. Upgrade to Vibranium+Adamantium in Marvel. Grab Kaguya bloodline in Naruto for control over it and hardening it further. eXceed's Alchemy was useful too, infusing every individual bone with the concept of "Indestructability."

Then go to Skulduggery Pleasant and become a skellyton without the meaty bits.

Laugh at feeble attempts to fight/destroy me. Spoopily.

Jump 80: Asura's Wrath
>Ten of Cups, reversed (Dissipation, debauchery, and stagnation. Taking one's good fortune for granted.)
>Age: 21
>Era: Age of Rage
>Identity: Drop-In
>Drawbacks: Outside the Wheel (+100), A Rival (+200), Solid Gold Supersoul (+300)
This is what I get for relying on precognition.
>Make An Example (Free, drop-in)
So a perk that makes others keep their wits, rather than leaning heavily on their ego? I like it.
>Living Saint (1200, drop-in)
Well, at least it means that hostile spirits won't be trying to kill me immediately.
>Demigod Atelier (800)
Ah! This is most decidedly magitech, though of a divine sort. I wonder if I can adapt it to other magic systems...
>Mantra Affinity: Pride (700)
Okay, yeah, not going to lie, I do have a lot of pride in what I'm doing these days. Might as well use it, though apparently if I have people worship me directly it's every bit as effective?
>Mantra Training and Techniques (500)
Does this mean I can throw fireballs like Ryu now?
>Cyborg Hindu Godbody (100)
Now this is just cool. I like it.
>Mantra Prayer Wheel (Free, drop-in)
Useful, at least to an extent.
>Divinity Banishment Staff (0, drop-in)
Well, at least I have SOME kind of useful weapon against all of this silliness.

I may look like a demigod... but in the end, I am not one. Instead, there are much better ways to do things. Not many plans aside from staying out of Asura's way, but there is one thing I'm going to utilize, and that is Living Saint. Keep the energy from being utilized... and instead, let it heal the people, heal the land. Calm down Gaea, and in turn, perhaps calm the demigods who are running around like idiots.

Oh, who am I kidding? Asura's going to punch them. All of them. In the everything.

>He doesn't; he wakes up chained to an alter, sans most of his clothing. Not the first time he's woken up like that. He was also surrounded by cyclopean, humanoid creatures, which was new.

>Max struggles, attempting to break through his shackles as the creatures draw nearer. Suddenly, the head of the nearest monster explodes in a cloud of gore, splattering the room with a blood and brains.

>The creatures, and Max, turn to look at the source of the blast, only to see a tall man wearing a suit of green armor and hefting a massive shotgun.

>After the marine finished painting the walls red, he motions for Max to follow him; wordlessly leading him to a suit of armor similar to his own- as well as a big crate of guns. Max grins.

I make no secret my love for 40K. That's why I spend so long making builds for it! I love to plan stories for its rich and varied plots and complex characters, so I might hear the loving words of its fans' in harmony of interpretation. I am vomiting sarcasm.

Anyway, I think I'm a techmarine? Possibly a fair ranking techpriest? And also a catgirl? And a blank. I'm like nine feet tall because of the implants, and I'm pretty sure my shoulders are bigger than most doorways.
Who are we kidding? I'm probably an experiment by some hereitc techpriest to make an ultimate bioweapon and everyone is shocked as hell I lived this long. I'm Frank Horrigan. If you know who that is without google, I love you.

Anyway, uninhabitable desert planet, orks, shooty death, whatever.
I have a bunch of anti-parasite plant-biology and grafting perks, so considering orks reproduce by spores I'm probably like one third ork by the end of this. Fuck it. Fuck orks. Fuck this place.

I wonder how Blank interacts with Soul Eater's Monster Cat?

Game's called VA-11 Hall-A, pronounced Valhalla. It's mad comfy and I'm thinking of working something out as my next project.

As for my current project

Khaos Brigade has a 400cp perk to making infiltration easier, a 600cp perk that basically makes you the many faced man from game of thrones, and able to share that with others, and I've begrudgingly decided to put a nerfed dragon form in there for 800cp.

I need a 100 and a 200 cp perk for them

And also any sacred gear that you guys want, let me know and if they aren't too op they can go in the new Sacred gear table.

I'm considering making it so each evil piece comes with a sacred gear as well as some cp to spend on perks.
>>

As for 100 CP or 200 CP, while not a perk to find scared gear and post jump potential?
>>
>>48075799
For Worm you will want a danger sense and a long range teleportation power that can be used on a moments notice, don't bother trying to defend yourself on Golden Morning. . . just run.

One Piece has all you need in jump.

SCP has a pretty wide range of dangers so luck perks would be good to keep from randomly encountering any Keter class bullshit.

Precog for all three, it's always good to be able to see ahead.
Hydrokinesis for both Worm and One Piece, though more for One Piece
Flight is always a good power
Anti-madness of some kind is absolutely necessary for SCP, because that place is fuckin' chock full of shit that can mess with your brain just by looking at it/knowing about it. Also maybe some kind of memory deletion ability, like the one in Great Detective.

You mean the non-pastebined ones? Alright, there's something of a pet project I only consider suitable for a...certain mindset of companion. They need to WANT it for it to work properly, anyway. The overall procedure's differed a little over the ages and at present it goes something like:

-The Binding, Storm Hawks
--Corruption Adept, Spyro the Dragon
-PSI+Evil Power, MOTHER
--Synchroncity Event+The Ride Never Ends, FEAR
-Embodiment of Evil+Titan's Blood, God of War
-A+++ Mystic Eyes of Imaginary Numbers/Demons boosted by an A+++ Anti-Unit (Self) NP that raises upgrades them by 5 parameters, Fate/Extra
-To Call Forth, Sword & Sorcery
--Trigram Knowledge & Alchemy, Journey to the West
--Fully Upgraded Mixing Cauldron, Atelier Arland
--Alchemy, Five Star Stories
--Mega Bomb+Guru, Chrono Trigger
--Blood, Mind & Heart, Dresden Files
--Conjoined Conjures, Cardcaptor Sakura
---Actualisation, FF8
--Mage+Smelter, Blazblue
-Fear Tech, Monsters Inc
-Anima, FF 12 Revenant Wings
-Foundation: Worm Entities, Cortex Command
--Gravity Furnace, Blame!
-Jumper is a Genius!+Naoya's Notes, Devil Survivor
--Research Notes, Geneforge
---Demonologist, DMC
---Hypnos Gene, Resident Evil
---Inner Self, Demon's Souls
-Angelus Stone+That Undefinable Thing, Tales of Symphonia
--Angel Slayer, Valkyrie Profile

So, here's how this works.

You use The Binding to grant someone the ability Corruption Adept, and Synchronicty Event to besetow on them the ability to use PSI.

Then you set up an elaborate clarktech array to harvest fear and evil intent from as many realms of reality as you can reach, over a population equal at least to a populated city.

At the epicenter of the infrastructure, you set up a magitech cauldron that resembles a cross between the Azure Grimoire's original form, an Angelus Stone, an actual cauldron and a taoist alchemy cruicible. You prime it with a ritual of conceptual sacrifice and equivalent exchange.

Well I posted it a few threads back but sure. This is a combo for reality warping which takes some jumps to set up, but is worth it once you get it going.

Basically you need at a minimum Scarlet Destiny from Touhou, Cartoon Physics from Worm, and Eightfold Path from Lord Of Light for the reality warping. Use Power Combinations from Young Justice to combine the three, so that Scarlet Destiny builds off Cartoon Physics' quantum scaling to manipulate probability with a fine degree of control while reducing mana cost since QP is doing the heavy lifting. Eightfold Path turns absolutes into non absolutes, or in this case 0% probability into nonzero probability. I use it in power combinations as it lets you decide how powers within it interact, for that extra measure of showing the work. You can now reality warp any possibility provided you have enough mana.

Supplement this with any unlimited mana scheme in addition to Leaky Limiter from Mushoku Tensei for an ever growing mana pool, and cojoined conjures to link magic systems to make use of it for other things.

All the fear and evil is to be condensed into a liquid form in the cauldron. But that's not all-you add in your own inner demons for extra potency, and you add in a little part of yourself that bestows the life essence of an SMT demon in genetic form. Last but not least, you use http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/46002230/#46004506 to add in a supply of cloned souls with particularly vast growth potential. In my case, my own were the strongest available and I had plenty of spares, so I used my own.

And then the companion enters the cauldron, and you activate both sets of Mystic Eyes focused on them, creating a region where space and time have no meaning which is simultaneously primed to upgrade an individual into an existence capable of generating its' own Reality Marble.

As for what comes out-well, remember Giygas from Earthbound? Imagine if Giygas a) was actively assisted in his ascension by a natural phenomenon, b) had a few other tricks from various kinds of spiritual entity, c) retained his mind and d) had an arbitrary amount of time to grow their power in an eldritch device capable of indefinite power growth.

Again, actualisation-based transcendence requires a willing participant. There's precious few among even my companions who would willingly undergo this process-people like Kiara, Morathi and Lilith.

Yeah, that could work, and then develops post jump as a kind of spider sense for supernatural shenanigans.

Post jump potential... What do you mean?

For what ever reason I keep thinking I should make a perk based off of Sun Wukong but nothings really coming to mind.

>Would prefer if you don't, that should be the jumper job. You wanna a sacred gear users in your group, work for it

Hear me out, because the core focus of the jump was originally companions. What I'm considering doing is something like what the Akami Ga Kill jump did with it's Imperial Arms so rather than outright purchasing Sacred gears you build one out of a few fields. That way induvidual Pawns would no longer be trash companions like they kinda feel like they are now, and there would be more of a reward for spreading your Pawns up.

Existing Sacred gears would be moved to items with their class discounts intact so as not to fuck up everyone's builds.

>On suggestions for sacred gears, could we possibly see (nerfed or not) the option for Slash Dog or Dimension Lost? Maybe the ability to make psuedo gears in fallen angel tree like Azazel? Possibly some scientist perks in fallen angel given that's their schtick. A nondiscounted or discounted for youkai/nonhuman option for senjutsu techniques would be good too. Might be nice to see a perk under angel tree for the ability to get by in foreign lands on the aid of others by being just that nice of a person, or getting past language barriers. To represent the church trio or the general goal of theirs to spread their religion in foreign lands. Can we have an option to belong to one of the surviving pillar houses, barring Phoenix for obvious reasons? For Khaos Brigade, a charisma/leadership perk to model after Cao Cao and his ability to gather those with talents from various backgrounds under his banner. Also possibly something for finding an opponent's weaknesses and utilizing them better against opponents in the way of some new spell or item created, given that's what they did. Would add more requests/suggestions but brain is shutting off after work.
>>

Monkey Business: Some people fight, and some play around. Then there's you. Whenever you throw down you have a sense of how to use the minimum possible force to dispel far stronger attacks, with the flair to make it look like it's all a game. Free aggravating monkey charm thrown in to really drive it home.

Monkey Magic: Talent in senjutsu, with a specialty in transforming your appearance into that of another.

Yeah, nothing was inspiring on the last idea but Sun shows up rarely in the LNs and Bikou is really only memorable for transforming into Rias in a side story and throwing down like the rest of Vali Squad.

How the fuck did I end up authoring this jump again?

Anyway, changing the angel/devil/fallen angel trees are beyond the scope of this update, their main tree lies in the class perks and changing that is more work than I'm willing to do.

I've subconsciously taken on-board the ideas on molding the Khaos Brigade on Cao Cao. It's shaping up to have some rather powerful subterfuge perks, and I think the infiltration one could certainly have a recruitment angle to it.

Dunno about the gears you suggested though.

Okay, so doing a Dahak Chronicles jump, wrote up a Drawback, and now I have no idea how many points it should give.

Roll 10d1000+1000. This is the number of years before start of canon that you arrive in this world. All abilities that might be classified as ‘Magic’ are gone, and you cannot take any items that register as magic out of your warehouse.

Your spaceships are unavailable to you, be they the Light, the Sajuuk, or anything in your orbital dockyard.

Now for what you have to do. You have until canon starts, let’s say the twenty-second century, to build your very own Imperium of Man. It must be at least the equal of the Fourth Imperium in resources and manpower.

And with this Imperium, you have to render the Achuultani ‘not a threat’. You may do this by liberating this from their AI master, or you may do it by destroying them, it’s entirely up to you. What matters is that they not be a threat humanity ever again.
>>
>>48076485
I don't have a clue what the Fourth Imperium is, so I couldn't really tell you how to price it.

But any particular reason it specifically blocks magic? I'm guessing the spaceship blocking is to prevent you from using those as a staging ground to set up your imperium?

It sounds like a cool challenge though.

So... what's Dahak Chronicles?

I'm not really good at min-maxing perfect combinations of thirteen different perks to conquer Shambhala. As a result, most of my combos are gimmicks that use two or three perks at maximum, or are more generalized things like, "stack all the genetics perks you can and do this cool thing at the place."
I am mostly doomed to obscurity as a result. No one will ever want to copy my goat army.

Which, just for the sake of redundancy, consists of Goat Simulator's "Goat Queen" and Legend of Chima's "Chi". Summon infinite goats, throw the chi in some water, have the goats drink the water, bam. Instant goat army of middling competency.

... actually, while I'm at it, sometimes people ask me, "Aren't those summoned dead in the game?" Well, the jump doesn't say. It says you can summon goat peasants, suitable as shields or sacrifices. I guess the words "peasants" and "sacrifices" imply life?
However, if you're hung up on game mechanics, there are numerous methods of resurrection, and I don't really care if my goat army is filled with abominations.
If you want to imagine I strapped them full of life restoring robot parts using Mother's Chimera Engineering, or used Penny Dreadful's Modern Prometheus in conjunction with Van Helsing's Lightning Is My Art, The Laws Are Mine, and some basic lightning magic, that's fine, too.

I also use goats as replenishing food stock, it's really all the same to me. If they come previved, that just means I have to murder three quarters of them.

Anyway, besides goats, I've got my Voot, which is not really anything special. It's the Irken Spittle Runner from Invader Zim, but I combined it with the tech from the Hover Capsule in Mega Man Classic. That and "What Hardpoints?" from Zoids makes it stupidly easy to attach to any larger machine setup. Because if Sonic jump isn't going to let me BUY an Eggmobile? I'll make my own.

Lessie... anything else...?
"Mad Researcher" from FF8 and "Trust Me, I'm A Doctor" from Invader Zim is fun. You can convince people to take part in your horrifically unethical experiments pretty easy.

Oh, and somewhere, I dunno, maybe a year back? I hammered out a ridiculous combo of bio and mechanical technology in a fit of SCIENCE! to create a pair of (potential) Level 6 Espers in Raildex (one biotech, one purely mechanical) that would consume and feed off each other indefinitely to grow in size and power using the megastructure capabilities from Biomega until they inevitably devoured the world.
But I can't remember the exact perks for it.
It's somewhere in the archive, I think.

"Make some world eating monstrosity and then forget how I did it."
Seems like I do that a lot.

It's David Weber's book series, Empire from the Ashes. Dahak Chronicles is the unofficial name.
Basically, an astronaut is abducted in the middle of a mission, by the Moon. Which turns out to be a vast spaceship that was parked there about 50,000 years ago, destroying the original moon. This is a standard method of concealment where the ship comes from.
The reason it abducted the astronaut is that it needed a captain in order to resolve a mutiny that got it stuck here, and as the descendant of the bridge crew, the astronaut became an officer, and as the sole officer, the captain, as soon as he stepped on board.

The ship needs the situation resolved because sensors and probes have gone off in the furthest reaches of the galaxy, which indicates that an omnicidal race of aliens is on the way for their latest 'Great Visit'...

This is about as far as the 'simple' stuff goes.

Would anyone say it's even possible to survive Arrowverse if one took "Jumper of Tomorrow",''It was me Jumper" and ''League of Assassins''? lets say the jumper has both Speedster and Vibe, and his companions got all types of disabling abilities like Kinetic Energy Absorption and whatever else.

Remember Jumper of Tomorrow gives all your abilities not bought in jump to Vandal Savage. It Was Me Jumper pits you against a powerful speedster, that should you defeat it, another takes its place and is immune to what killed the last one. League of Assassins pits you up against well, the league of assassins. They too eventually get wise to your abilities. It's doable, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Always play it as if I'm jumping myself so it's been pretty limited but have done a good run, an evil run and attempted a Nostalgia run where I go from settings I liked best to least.

Good run never got off the ground. Got boring quickly as it was sort of like my main run but with less fun.

Evil run was pretty decent. Lot of good jumps with good villainous backgrounds that I could start with.

Nostalgia run fell apart almost instantly. Can't really mess with the settings you really like if you don't have the firepower to back it up.

This is going to be an interesting decade. First of all, Dumbledore is going to have to provide me with Wolfsbane potion and set me up in the shrieking shack. I freely admit to being a werewolf, hoping to prove that my kind are trustworthy. Terezi sniffs out Quirrel when he pulls the troll stunt, letting me get credit for catching the dark lord.

Second year, Dolores Umbridge was responsible pushing some anti-werewolf legislation, so Vriska flew out and gave her a fatal case of bad luck. I also took the opportunity to latch on to Lockhart. He was terrified about the whole werewolf thing, but I played on his vanity and convinced him that taking up the cause of lycanthrope rights as a publicity stunt was a good idea. By the end of the year, we solved the mystery of the chamber of secrets on our own, knocked Lockhart out, dragged him down there with us, let Terezi kill the basilisk, then explained to him that we were ok with him taking credit as long as he kept up the werewolf rights thing. He quit the teaching position to come out with his next book, Beheading the Basilisk (starring me as the adorable widdlest werewolf sidekick who always does his best to help his idol Lockhart despite the prejudice he receives from less enlightened wizards.)

Thanks for the answer Manyfist, the drawbacks looked way too volatile to be possible. For a second I almost thought you could theoretically get back your powers from Vandal Savage before the end of the jump since it says you have to reclaim them but doesn't list you needing to reclaim them at a specific point other than "if you don't reclaim them by the end of the 10 years you lose".

It was about then that Dumbledore figured out there was something a bit strange about the werewolf student who kept thrawting the dark lord and his eight half-veela friends who all got sorted into Ravenclaw no matter how poor a fit it was for most of them. All he got out of me that I was "special" and that I'd give him the locations of the other hocruxs from Voldemort's biography if he'd stop asking pointless questions.

Year three was quieter, although the dementors thought I was candy and I got some weird looks when my boggard turned into Armisael. Terezi took point on catching Sirius, then Peter when she caught him and realized he was innocent. She let me and Remus (outed as a werewolf) take credit.

Fourth year Vriska was entered as the Hogworts contsestant in the triwizard tournament when, by an absurd series of coincidences, another student accidentally mispelled every letter of their own name as "Victoria Sergeant" There was so much dragon blood.

Without Wormtail, the plot thouroughly derailed from that point, so I spent the rest of my school years working as a spokesmen for werewolf rights, thrawrting the dark lord's back up plans, and watching Vriska obsess about learning to make Felix Felicis. Did you know that the final step in brewing that potion is waving your want in a figure eight? I do, because she hasn't shut up about it for litereally years. She forced me to stock the warehouse up with as many ingrediants as we can aford.

After graduation, I had to start relying on Aradia to keep me frozen in time at night. I got a job as an auror as an excuse to investigate anti-werewolf politicians and frame them for magical crimes, as well as confiscate dark magical lore for later use.

Did they change his original backstory in Arrowverse? because technically at 50,000 BC he was a normal caveman who bathed in the radiation of a mysterious meteorite or something. Maybe the drawback would make it impossible but would it be possible to just kill him when he was nothing but a normal man and thus completely muck up his stealing of my powers?
>>
>>48077597
>Did they change his original backstory in Arrowverse?
In Arrowverse he's just some priest who lived in Egypt in like 4000 B.C., along with Shayera and the Hawk-dude.
They got blamfazzled by a meteorite of some metal (was it Uru? can't remember), and Vandal became undeadable, while the other two started reincarnating every time they died.
Every time he kills them, he gets a little… better, I guess?

It was kind of poorly explained, imo.
>>
>>48077597
>Did they change his original backstory in Arrowverse?
Yes. IMO that's the worst thing they've handled in the CW DC shows; Vandal is just horrible. He's a bit to for the lulz villain, his immortality is tied to the Hawks and he's only been around since ancient Egypt.

Mostly the Arrowverse does good interesting things, but VS is the glaring exception.
>>
>>48075863

*sigh* I know.

A newbie mage can already do fun stuff like unlimited transmutation. Having all the pattern spheres at 2 basically lets you create any material you want.

While there are some limits, such as higher-level organisms for Life and 'exotic' materials like radioactive isotopes for Matter; you can still turn water into apples into gold into water... with just Matter and Life at two.

And Entropy 2...

And that's not even touching individual (or combined) Sphere 5 effects, where you can start creating eight-ball sized black holes and store them in your universe-sized pockets...

But, I'm going to give it a shot anyway. Also, if someone doesn't like my implementation, I'm totally ok with them creating an alternate jump.
>>
>>48077323

They mixed the two Hawk origins together. They explained everything near the end.

The meteor that struck Ancient Egypt was nth metal, from the Thanagarians. Hawkguy & girl reincarnate but also have wings, that can come and go.

It was an interesting take on things. Just I think the problem was that they were only suppose to have like 13 episodes which got extended out to 20. Legends of Tomorrow S2 is going to be dealing with Justice Society.

not in all jumps, in some they have the vampire as alt forms with all the weaknesses (at least in bloodlines if i remember it correctly)

Because that would be super clear for everyone involved? It also requires that everyone would actually know what the consensual reality of that world would be, which may even be something of which different people disagree about. Take 40k then, who's to say which faction has how much impact on it? There are way too many nebulous factors for a great many settings.

Just don't tell anyone m8, time freeze when you leave they won't even notice
>>
>>48078700

I also thought this.
>>
>>48078017
With the exception of possibly Time, I think most of the archmastery spheres are... pointless, to put it nicely.

There's not really much of anything at the archmastery level you can't do theoretically do with several spheres at 5. For the most part, you can perform archmastery effects either by using multiple spheres in conjunction or generate more successes. Sure, generating a large enough number of successes is hard, but that's the point.

I won't be supporting archmastery, save maybe something you can have post-spark, if you really want it. Once you have your spark... whatever.

Regarding Arete, it basically just describes your Enlightenment and over-all magical ability.

A mage with Arete 10 would, mechanically, be able to create effects that are twice as 'powerful' as a Mage with 5 Arete, without tapping into external resources. However, given the MtA 20AE rules, willpower is also a limiter to creating magical effects (you roll the lower of Arete and Willpower). As such, a higher Arete won't necessarily help a whole lot in that area.

Where Arete does have a lot of value, its it's ability to shed your attachment to paradigm and/or foci (depending on your edition). Typically, most mages can discard foci for a sphere for each dot of Arete. Later, technomancers were set so that they can't discard foci until they hit 5-6 Arete, at which point they discard foci twice as fast. MtA 20AE raises the minimum threshold for mystic mages to 3 Arete, and state that members of the Technocracy can never drop their paradigm and/or foci.

So, if you want to be able to warp reality at will without the motions and trappings of whatever technological or mystical (or other) tradition you selected, you're going to want a high Arete.
>>

Unless you're planning on returning to every place at the same time after getting your spark, they will probably miss you for a few centuries.

Specially if you plan on keep jumping after it or settle down somewhere. Unless you want to go full Nyarlathotep and live a thousand lives at the same time.

It's using your god soul to take advantage of the consensual nature of reality by overruling everyone else. If reality doesn't run on consensus willworking doesn't either because it's equivalent to shouting over your opponents at a debate.
>>
>>48078798

>>
>>48078080
Something about keeping Paradox post jump just feels... wrong. I can see Paradox existing in any world where reality actually is consensual (or otherwise created/maintained by will/observation), but otherwise... :/

I'll probably have a small section about how 'magic' works post jump.

Settings with a consensual/observational/flexible reality would have Paradox.
Settings with actual high level/omni-God(s) or other high level Q-like aliens/beings would have something similar to the Scourge (see Mage: Sorcerer's Crusade).
Settings with a 'hard' reality, and no 'omnipotent' beings; reality warping would be relatively string free (from a Paradox stand point).

Thing is Paradox is 90% of what limits actually using magic in Mage. It's effectively equivalent to deciding generic RPG world #287 shouldn't require mana any more post jump because of some bits of fluff. And Scourge is literally Paradox through a different consensus.

The other thing is that very few jumpers would ever use that magic system as long as the paradox is a thing, if the paradox goes away post jump then they will wait until the jump is over to use that magic system and if it doesn't go away they will say fuck this shit to the entire system.

I don't think anyone is arguing for being able to cast magic without mana. People are just against the stupid Cthulu Rapes You clause that Mage wants to invoke.

Neither of the Dragon Age jumps require you to be subject to demonic possession post jump even if you use their magic post jump. Other intrinsic drawbacks fade, ala Vampiric traditional weaknesses, after you leave that jump.

Just keep the mana cost and drop the retarded edge rape Paradox.
>>
>>48078825
It would be nice to see a no paradox route, that whole concept no sells the entire magic system for a lot of jumpers.
>>
>>48078567

Mage 20th AE actually addresses this by acknowledging that different parts of Earth operate under different rules depending on the concentration of belief in an area.

I wouldn't treat WH40K as a consensual reality setting as a whole. There are parts of it that seem consentual, such as the Warp and sites with large Ork presences.

However, if you did want to apply a Paradox/Consensual reality model over the setting, then you could have different pockets of belief, similar to how Orks generate their gestalt reality-warping field.

When you are around Tau, skinning your effects in hypertech would be coincidental. When you were on a planet full of Tzentch cultists, you could easily skin your powers as sorcery to be coincidental.

To a degree, ultimately, jumpers will kinda have to have a good understanding of the worlds they jump into - as well as themselves. Any jumpers who believe in an omni-present being who watches and judges their actions would likely always be suffering from a Paradox or Scourge-like effect.
>>
>>48079012

>>
>>48079025
>>48079038
And that's fine to houserule that, but forcing it on others when the jumps don't do that isn't okay. Similarly, there's no reason for Paradox to remain in a Mage jump post jump. Keep the mana requirement, but drop the extradimensional rape angle.

>>
>>48078700

You are basically correct. However, if you moved into a setting with a similar set up (where reality existed as it did due to the will of those living in it), it makes sense to suffer paradox again.

Also, if your will were to come into conflict with a more powerful will, you could run into problems. So, if you have an actual omnipotent being (or near omnipotent being) in a setting, it could cause problems. Like, you hopped into Star Trek and started poking with something the Q had set, and were maintaining.

That said, (near) omnipotent reality warpers are probably better modeled by the Scourge (from Mage: The Sorcerer's Crusade).
>>
>>48079012
The thing is that there aren't mana costs to using Ascension Magic. As mentioned prior, closest is Quintessence and that's for the really big stuff. Paradox is what serves as the limiting factor on how much magic you can cast. The mana analogy came in because that's equivalent to what you're demanding here game balance wise.
>>48078974
Yeah, it's hilarious watching you pansies scream about the horrific effects of Awakening Paradox. You know, the stuff that's completely stoppable by taking some bludgeoning damage. You'll notice that the people actually familiar with Awakening use that stuff a good deal. Can't recall the precise details on Ascension Paradox, but it's really not that much worse.

Awakening Paradox can be contained. You take bashing damage to reduce the amount of successes on the Paradox roll at a 1:1 basis. Even getting anything along the lines of demons requires five successes, which only happens when the Mages in question are going ridiculously overboard or the roll gets an unusually large number of 10s. Five bashing for reference is enough to put Joe Average one solid hit from unconsciousness, and can be walked off in about 75 minutes or so (notably it is resistant damage, which means it heals at the natural rate for humans and can't be healed faster, but it's nothing major on the scale of jumpers unless you're really dump statting durability hard.

Please don't speak for everyone, you're really not winning hearts and minds here. I consider Paradox to be an integral part of defining what prevents the system from roflstomping things from an internal balance perspective; now, whether it should remain as it is or ADAPT to other jumps' cosmologies is a question I'm willing to consider, but removing it outright would represent a massive improvement on the whole magic system earned with zero effort or cost.

By >>48079264's logic you should be able to shoot Balefire at your own heard without sustaining damage and use Bayonetta magic to summon and bind fairy queens (despite fairy queens not, to the best of my knowledge, existing in Bayonetta) and power the Giga Slave with your own testicles instead of the Lord of Chaos. It's a completely nonsensical argument based on what I could, at best, generously interpret as interjump balance.

>>
>>48078925

I am aware that Paradox is pretty much the only limit on Mage's magic.

I spent a good three weeks trying to think about the best way to handle Mage's magic post-jump before even considering making a jump. I'm sure some people won't like my ultimate solution - and I'm perfectly ok with someone else making a Mage: The Ascension jump as well (as long as that author is also ok with others making different versions of that jump). In fact, it would be way easier for me if someone else did one that I liked instead.

Regarding the Scourge, I think you are selling it a bit short. Yes, it is very similar to Paradox. However, it is (mechanically) slightly different. Unlike Paradox, it isn't necessarily bad (it has a fairly equal chance of being either positive or negative) and it isn't directly linked to how inline with consensus your actions are (in game terms, it triggers on a '1' or '10' on special die). In this case, the desires of the random (near) omnipotent reality warper take the place of random chance - allowing him/her/it to bless or punish you when and how he/she/it feels fit, if at all.

Also, it is important that mages need to know how things work. If mage that wants to create a complex item (gun, car, computer, etc) that works on its own, without existing and functioning solely due the mages will, said mage needs to understand how computers are made and how the components work and fit together and work in 'default' conditions/reality.

(Any time a mage has decided to conjure up a complex item from thin air, that mage has had to know how those devices work. Mechanically, that would require knowledge check of some kind. It's a limiting factor for Matter 4.)

This implies that a mage will need to have at least basic understanding of how any magical and/or scientific systems in any reality she jumps to work in order to create complex, persistent objects.
>>
>>48079487
It really isn't. Off the top of my head, the "limits" are shit and clearly power-grabby. Power levels are NOT properly explained. He appears to have just straight up copied them off the wiki, and those are shit. >>48079492

>>48079593
That's because they are power fantasies, and shit ones at that. Most of them are good in the same way that Twilight was good—i.e., they appeal to a particular fantasy and are mostly shit. IET (author of CD) is actually one of the few decent ones, but he has some serious issues as well. Mainly, his characterization is terrible. Most people in the thread aren't high level jumpers. Though I'm curious, how tuff are most abyssal demons? I know the most powerful ones are still-born universes that try and infect reality with themselves, but what about the rest? City-busting? Galaxy-busting?
>>
>>48079725
You might want to actually explain what makes magic subtle instead of getting all smug.

This entire "not enough power, fuck off" shit is annoying, but what the system considers subtle is different from what the word implies.
>>
>>48079722
You keep whining about that one ship. It's pretty pathetic of you.
>>
>>48079706
>not subtle
>piano that would've otherwise not fallen on someone falls on someone and kills them
>to all onlookers, it looks like a complete accident, no one suspects you at all
>not subtle

>walk into a door unseen in the US
>walk out the other door, in France
>no one has any reason to question your appearance, since as far as they knew you were on the other side of the door

And consider how much you could get away with in Star Trek, what with their ability to explain everything within their worldview by just techno-babbling it away.

Consider how you can dress up the healing as a field operation to make it seem more plausible. Assure them you're a doctor.

Subtlety in magic is about convincing others that what's happening is something that could have happened anyway, or that what you're doing is in line with their beliefs.
>>
>>48079755
Don't bother, ASA. All you're going to do is get the babies to turn on you and bitch that you're joining forces with Red and in favor to "nerf" them or something.
>>
>>48079722
Hey, I like subtlety. If I had a cooler ship available than the Light when I hit supreme commander you can bet I would have used it instead(I like the Juraian treeship idea). I suppose technically I had the Shard but it was already a part of the flying Island I'm building.
>>
>>48079783
... Okay, let me rephrase.

It's not nuking the Sultanate's palace while his harem gives you a thank-you blowjob for freeing them levels of power-fantasy.

>>
>>48079550
The only one I've ever read that gets to ludicrous levels of power is Stellar Transformations. CD isn't nearly as bad as you're making it out to be considering that hundreds of Highgods fighting each other on a material plane only destroyed three continents.
>>48079663
I didn't copy them off the wiki if that was what you needed to know, and if it was a power grab the Jumper would immediately be allowed the ability to just take Sovereign Sparks from Beirut and would put no limit in becoming a Universe Creator. There are many other Jumps of the exact same level of power yet I see no major bitching about the power grabbiness of them.

He said grievous injury, not "Half their torso blown off". So shit like "Oh shit, there is rebar through his lung" use magic "It missed his vital organs he should be fine"

The Door one is arguable

And Fatal Bad Luck does not mean cartoon badluck, it means you got hit by a fucking car.
>>
>>48079824
That works. Convincing people your spells are just advanced tools (but not too advanced, otherwise it loops around and becomes implausible again) is one of the best ways to make your magic subtle. It's like 90% of the Technocracy's MO.
>>
>>48079789
>torso

People have survived worse.

>disappearing through portal door

Ever heard of a hidden door/hidden trapdoor?

>cartoon bad luck

Unless you get to Rube Goldberg levels of it, it's all stuff that's actually happened to people that people have even survived.

You'd be surprised how good the mind is at shrugging off unusual events like they're nothing, and just how much people can ignore that's right in front of them when they want to.
>>

>Star Trek
Doesn't that fly in the face of your argument that Paradox should remain is it in in Ascension no matter what jump you're in?
>>
>>48079824
That's how Technocrats do.
>>
>>48079822
That sounds like it is better achieved through KeikakuIntensified.gif than with brute force.
>>
What I don't get about this argument is why there even is an argument. One side is arguing that things should work like they work in the world of the Jump. The other is arguing for things that don't work like they work in the Jump. That's the purest form of powerwank. Why are we even responding? Would we respond if people complained that the Force didn't let you travel in time? Or that Pokemon Psionics didn't let you summon daemons? Or that you can't raise the dead with Harry Potter magic because they want it? They're shitposters, so ignore them.

>>
>>48079199
>>48078925
I will said it once more time: Conjoined Conjures and Dark Wisdom.

That screws with any limitation that you want to impose based on how a magic system works.

I thought that at this point people had gotten over trying to balance post-jump stuff.
>>
>>48079869
Should I point you again to all the forms that lose their weaknesses post-jump?

>>
>>48079862
But that is how it works in Ascension. Consensual Reality. What people believe is how Paradox works. Fuck, if you want to be able to throw around fireballs, you probably can. You just have to convince them it's possible. That's literally what the Technocracy did - they convinced people technology worked, so it did.
>>
>>48079874
>he thinks people are overwhelmingly skeptical

The majority of people have enough to think about just making a living, and will gladly believe anything if it makes it easier for them to pay the rent at the end of the month, or if they're particularly desperate, to eat at least once a day.
>>

Because while it makes sense for Awakening to follow through jumps due to in setting metamphysics, it makes no sense for Ascension Paradox to follow you, since that's the result of Willworking contradicting the consensual reality created by other unconscious willworkers. If you travel to a setting where consensual reality isn't a thing, it makes no sense for Paradox to be a thing either.

Hell, my LoT looks the same size it started out as from the outside and it has a bunch of equipment dedicated to making it ping as even smaller on other ships' space-radar.

This. Or watching the poor sap who sold his soul to you two days ago dance on your strings in the political arena, while everyone thinks he's the next big hit.

Or carefully orchestrating the circumstances that end with your rival slipping on a banana peel, delaying him just long enough to set off a chain of events that end with him losing his empire, his family and his little dog too.

Or being the reason why blimps are suddenly everywhere, the economy is doing well and Youtube's just issued a formal and retroactive apology for censoring anything ever while announcing an end to their association with Google Plus, while you hold a book full of names and photographs in your hand.

Um, actually, you technically can, but you can't change anything. Force Walk I think it's called? Unless that was retconned or something, I'm pretty sure that's just time travel without the ability to interact or change anything.

>>48079644
For reference pretty much everything under Fate, Death, Spirit, Mind, and Prime are covert. Death and Prime are somewhat more prone to Vulgar magic, but still mostly Covert. Even the five more obvious ones have a great deal of stuff covert, like messing with radio waves or anything else not directly visible to the human eye (forces), making animals do effectively whatever you tell them to (life), make stuff generally better so long as you don't go too far (matter, literally doubling the item bonus is necessary for it to be Vulgar), setting up a barrier that makes it so that stuff of your choice cannot enter the area (space, plus some other arcana if you want something broad), or tell chance to go fuck itself and see the future (time). And those are just the basic non-Knowing/Unveiling spells I saw that served as good examples of interesting stuff from the core book. Knowing and Unveiling are the Mage term for most information spells, you get them at one dot and they're ridiculously useful.
>>48079706
Healing is Covert, meaning so long as Sleepers don't look at it and realize "holy shit that's magic" at the time of casting you're not getting Paradox. Same with the luck thing, not sure what he's referring to with the door.
>>48079755
Or yes, do what ASA suggested and just run around with Spirits doing everything obvious for you. Because Spirits aren't Mages, and do not suffer Paradox, and most of the spells dealing with them are covert, and easily cast away from Sleeper witnesses for the ones that even have any obvious effects.

If you want to take that route, it makes no sense for MtA magic to work in any other settings, because reality isn't consensual in any other setting. Reality is the stuff that exists no matter what you believe. So MtA magic can't work in any other Jump, and we can drop the argument.

Honestly, I would too.

However, think about what that means in the larger scheme of things, post jump. You'd potentially be a completely free-form reality warper with no real limitations upon you. Unless you made really bad choices with your CP and in the jump, you'd playing Q in every jump after it.

As it is, I'm likely supporting a position that allows that to potentially happen in a large number of worlds, depending upon where you jump and your beliefs in higher beings. :/

I know, I know. When it first started, I was actually pretty pleased. My Grimm were constantly chasing the Koopas, the Pantheons we using Waddle Dees for target practice, and don't get me started on my giant monsters! That fact that they were all organizing together seemed like a good thing...until they started making demands. See, a pay raise, I could deal with. Don't know what they use it for, but it didn't bug me. Insurance stuff is what got me suspicious, and when they started protesting me using them for experiments, that's when I decided to put my foot down.
As it turns out, bringing your minions back into fearful obedience is much harder once they've gotten a taste of freedom. Well, from now on, no more Mr. Nice Evil Overlord! Now I'm going Darth Vader on their sorry hides!

It probably has something to do with the hubris of taking someone's life into your hands and making that judgement call. For example, the system of the Knights of the Cross exists to give the Denarians as many opportunities as possible to repent after getting their asses beaten by the Swords Nanoha-style.
>>
>>48080486
"Waste Resources". Bro, Geneforge and Supreme Commander.

For Geneforge, you only need to use Resources to set up "Spawners", whom can then spawn infinite Minions for free.

Supreme Commander? You can build things that generate Mass, out of pure Energy. Anything you build after that is essentially free.

And if you use both together you can Mass Produce Humanoid Minions, and then arm them with powerful Sci-fi weaponry/armor. For almost no cost.
>>
>>48080317
It's like you didn't even read the fucking Jump. You have to kill the strongest Sovereigns to get their Sparks because at that point what is the point of restricting it? Universe Creator is locked off until you spark so once again, actually read the Jump.
>>
>>48080505
Yes. Changeling magic. Or Fae magic, if you want to get technical.

Of course, there's nothing stopping you from taking some wizard magic perks AS a Changeling to represent extraordinary magic ability comparable to a veteran wizard, like Eldest Gruff or the Leanansidhe but your CP budget. And the best part is-Fae don't have to worry about hexing tech. It's the perfect solution for anyone who wants to be a human-killing wizard really.

Speaking of the Denarians, Nicodemus has that noose that renders him nearly invulnerable to harm. How would he deal with soul attacks like the Herald Aura from SMT (ignoring the fact that the physical boosts alone would let you tear him apart before he could react)?
>>
>>48080567
Not him but I find it conspicuous you offer Linley Armor-the plot armor specifically needed to get universe maker powers-as a perk purchase. Also I find that 600 CP Mage perk to be overly arbitrary in reducing magical effects by 1/6th; I'd ask you to justify that specific reduction or reword it into something like "decreased significantly" or somesuch.
>>
>>48080571
...You have to earn it yourself.
>>
>>48080502
Baal I vaguely recall researching the mythological version for someone else and coming up with only a couple vague myths and domains, meanwhile SMT I prefer to avoid because I really don't want to touch upon YWHW and his offshoots. Annansi off top of head would get you stuff like shapeshifting, illusions, web weaving, great bluffing and storytelling skills, talking to and commanding spiders, and probably some more stuff I'm forgetting to include in the rushed summary,
>>
>>48080584
Are you retarded? The Sovereigns can kill continent busting gods with their thoughts. How is anyone but a late game jumper supposed to make a game out of killing them?
>>
>>48080571
I assume that you have to earn it. If I remember right that note is in there due to people talking about how easy it would be to cheese your way to fairly high divine ranks, and that note was the caveat that pushed higher divine ranks to post spark. Well, that or it allowed you to stay in FR if you wanted to keep pushing your DR.
>>
>>48080567
>You have to kill the strongest Sovereigns to get their Sparks because at that point what is the point of restricting it?
Power levels 1 and 2 are locked away, but 3 is available. Fucking why? Every setting has its weaknesses, if you exploit those killing a chief sovereign is very doable, even if the powerlevel is far beyond your own. There is literally no fucking reason for it to be available.

Thank you for not clearly not reading any of my reply. UC is locked off, but Linley's strength when he punched a fucking whole in reality isn't, and it's completely arbitrary. Even if you say you can't get that strong, you can't actually define that strength. You're clearly not reading responses and are just defending your shit power grab, so I'm officially done with you.
>>
>>48080621
Anon wants an absolute inescapable limit, pretty much.
>>
>>48080584
What the fuck is the point of limiting them getting the Spark if they can just up and kill the third strongest beings in the entire cosmology? The only thing that beats Sovereigns of the Edicts are the over gods and the person who actually made the universe. At the point where a Jumper can reliably kill one there Is no reason to limit them further. The only reason it exists is to stop a first jump jumper from simply asking for a spark after helping out a bit.
>>
>>48080613
Sounds good. I don't suppose being a demigod of Anansi would allow me to use diplomacy with Arachne, maybe negotiate something or other so she doesn't attack the Demigods?
>>
>>48080589
Oh for fuck's sake, are we back to ITS NOT EXACTLY WHAT I WANT THEREFORE IT SHOULD BE REMOVED? Pure cancer.

But I see now you actually haven't read the books, because Lea throws some magic missles at vampires, Eldest Gruff blows up a Denarian with pure Spring magic, the Summer Lady hurls curtains of fire at people, the Winter Lady can freeze ice so hard that ice ices over. And in short, only an utter retard obsessed with shounen explosion magic would think there's anything stopping you from being an evocation-heavy Fae with the right perks.

I'm...legitimitely not sure. I think that's a call for Wild Card/SMTanon.

If I had to guess though, since the Herald Aura is a) fluffed as pure angelic power and b) said to be slowed by pure vitality, although I'm truly uncertain if SMT metaphysics have the hax to punch through the Noose's protection given the provenance of Almighty-type damage, the fact that he explicitly has no special regen beyond the Noose and the Noose's power seemed to have been lessened (if not outright negated) by him holding what was implied to be the original Holy Grail I'm tentatively hedging if you go all out and make your aura as buff as possible you could hurt him through it.

He's a slippery little bastard though, the real problem would be getting him to stand still long enough to go all out. Personally I'd target him with the not-Fire of Sinai a DP'd Chosen of Raphael could bring to bear. And of course, the other SMT jumps-especially Digital Devil Saga-have other Almighty attacks.

Hey, there's an idea. Use Pierce on Nicky D.

>you mean magic you just plain do not get access to at all?

No, I mean magic you can easily be in the same rough metaphysical punching weight as with the right combination of perks and backgrounds. Sure you probably have less raw power than Maeve due to the nature of her mantle but she's supposed to be a noble not a warrior, she's sloppy as fuck and she certainly doesn't have the opportunity to access dragon magic or Thor's thunder.
>>
>>48080824
Like what?
>>
>>48080709
Random conceptual BS, any of the perks that shut down anything supernatural in a radius, A Room With A Moose and then release him into a ridiculously hostile environment, various random "kills one guy dead" perks or items, forming an alliance of lesser powers to go kill him, using charisma perks to convince him to kill himself, or the traditional silent cast Avada Kedavra to the back. It's fairly simple to find a way to kill a single guy if you need to and the results shield you from any repercussions.

Are you familiar with the magic system and setting (outside the jump context)? I generally avoid taking a jump for any setting I'm not familiar with.

If a jump looks interesting but I'm not familiar with the world, I'll watch or read the source material to get a handle on it. For example, that's what I did for Heroic Age and Gravity Falls.

In my experience, the basic Mage: The Awakening rule book outlines such situations as clearly as they can be. If you you haven't reviewed it yet, you may want to give it a try!

You're not wrong, I admit there's different tradeoffs. You know, I was thinking about getting the gravity gun, but then it occurred to me: I can already do everything it does, and furthermore I can make my own.

Now see, there's a funny thing about this whole incident. Freeman's going to take care of everything perfectly well, and I'm not limited to the usual ridiculousness that comes with having to go through maps without the ability to just bypass impassible obstacles through guile and brute force. I'm not going to interfere in the plot, aside to save some scientists' lives, until after Freeman shuts down the invasion. I'll have left Black Mesa, found a nice little abandoned airfield somewhere, and put my warehouse key into an aircraft hangar door so that one wall of the warehouse is wide open.
>>
>>48080895
You may recall that, after the Nihilanth was killed, portal storms raged across the planet and then the Seven Hour War occurred. Well... funny thing about all of that: there are apparently ways to stop portal storms, with satellites that are in orbit from Black Mesa (which would otherwise dormant until Episode 2, thanks Obama). I have every intention of doing what I can to activate them and end the portal storm. Odds are good that I will not be successful, which is why I have been gearing up for Plan B: fight off the Combine.

Having practically unlimited resources at my disposal, the ability to set up complex assembly lines that can make virtually anything in a matter of minutes, and quite frankly I am pretty certain that I can crank out a small army of automatons over the course of a day, and the whole Black Mesa event takes place over the course of about that long if memory serves.

And I'm pretty sure that despite the Combine having some quite impressive technology, they do not have the means to counter what I'm going to be sending at them. Magitech automatons, built on demand, guaranteed to work to no one's ends but my own.

Perhaps I should spend my remaining time in the jump chasing them across their worlds and eradicating them outright.

The point of locking off the highest level is because by the point you "unlock" it the point has become moot because you don't really need it by then or the chain is over. Is the creator's intent but clever ways can be used to get around it so I'd say you have a point there. As for punching holes in reality, for the n'th time the cosmology is a bunch of universes. The local planes/universe the story goes across are shoddy support beams meant to prop up the structure of the primary universe. Which is why it's piss easy to rip open with just brute force because it's made of discount building materials as far as universe structures go.

Not to say it doesn't have issues, but the ones you listed don't really hold up. Not that the jump does a good job of explaining it but eh. I don't care enough to go through and reread/explain everything.

As much as that question makes you sound like a petulant child begging to be spoonfed, I concede it's a valid one.

Alright, Power to Burn and Refined Spellcasting respectively give you Harry-like reserves of magic mojo and Luccio-like finesse capable of turning a simple fireball into a magic laser. Now take Un(Seelie) magic which gives you basic access to Fae magic, and boom-icicle minigun or Summer kamehameha-alike.

Worldwalker could let you shape parts of the Nevernever into your personal mystic stronghold, given what Lea did.

Soulfire...oh geeze. Put it this way, when Harry used Winter magic and Soulfire at the same time? He punched through the much-vaunted Outsider magic immunity (as in, the thing that 800 CP perk is based on) using a surge of freezing flame while the thing was actively trying to defend itself from magic-and that was a Walker, a champion among its' kind.

Kiss of Death is criminally underrated if you invest in Winter magic; I'd say it'd be reasonable to kill a crowd just by walking among them and permeating the area with killing fog given it's based on Lord Raith in his prime.

Finally, Multiple Choice lets you become an actual fae being to amplify your mystic fortitude, and Job Offer can loan you magic from a god. Nuff said.

You can potentially get even vaster power from some of the items but I figure you're the sort who's adverse to corruption.

They don't speak for the rest of us. They do tend to be the example that a majority of people follow, however, and if they don't jump a thing, then most other people won't either.
>>
>>48080917
The general rule of thumb is if an eye witness could notice the spell at its normal intensity it's Vulgar. There's the occasional oddity but that's the general rule. Healing is the major notable exception for stuff that's usually Vulgar being Covert, while there's the occasional high end spell that's arbitrarily Vulgar.
>>
>>48080999
Since you're getting impatient, I'll come out and state it. The jump doesn't tell you or give you any idea at all for what that perk can do. This is a failing of the jump because nobody will have any idea what they can do unless they go read the book.

>>48081003
Isn't Harry only as strong with Winter Magic as he is because he's Mab's fucktoy? And you can't be?

On top of that, there's no Nevernever post-jump.

>Job Offer
This one requires you to be someone's eternal slave to get access to magic. I don't consider it valid for anything.

Just poking holes at specific parts of the combo.

Red did jump it, actually. Frankly I'm as surprised as you are.

I did jump it, but frankly after seeing the jump's...development I declined to buy anything at all with CP on basic principle.

I just went drop-in and proceeded to make my own entertainment.

>>48080969
No I don't? I just speak for me man, what the hell are you talking about?

You do realise the "we" pronoun stuff from way back was from me roleplaying as ASA right? Not intended as me OOC speaking for anyone else. Now that ASA is no longer technically a hivemind I've naturally gone back to using "I" like a regular person.

>>
>>48081058
>nobody will have any idea what they can do unless they go read the book.
It should be like that for all jumps, honestly. A jumpmaker shouldn't be required to write down a summary of all of the settings mechanics just because you want a perk and are too lazy to actually consume the media that the jump is based on.
>>
Alright Jumpers, as powerful as you are, are there any enemies in the jump, be they regular or bonus, that you dread fighting? An enemy that would be an uphill battle to beat?
>>
>>48081058
Don't lie. The Jump explicitly says all Jumps have Nevernevers unless they have pre-existing Spirit worlds, and that anything which works with the Nevernever works in either. It also says that you can sell your services to your God, pick a new God, or take a permanent vacation where you won't gain any new powers but keep your existing ones with no new duties.
>>
>>48080998
Shut down all supernatural stuff usually requires you to touch somebody or shuts down YOUR supernatural shit as well, which is kind of an issue if the Sovereign in question has any friends/subjects. And Enkidu has never restrained anything even a tenth as strong as a Sovereign, and fucking failed against Heracles, who has a divinity rank of A and is only 500 times stronger than a human, which is far weaker than a Sovereign. Generally speaking, the conceptual bullshit a sovereign can bring to bear is vastly superior to anything but a late-game jumper.
>>
>>48081077
>No I don't? I just speak for me man, what the hell are you talking about?
The moment you jump a jump, or the moment you approve a combo, nobody speaks out and nobody argues it. That proves that you speak for the thread.

You could probably up and say you want all jumps to give 2000cp starting budget, and anyone who says 'no' will get annihilated.

>>48081058
You're technically right but you can easily surpass being Mab's fucktoy by having gud enough Fae descent (Lea's good for magic proficiency, Cat Sith for melee-specs) and Multiple Choice. Heck, Job Offer on top of that would potentially put you in a league of your own depending on who's your patron; I'd strongly recommend FERROvax if you feel a pressing need to make other Winter Sidhe do a spit-take.

Be as that may, you can still acquire a demesne and own people who step within your magical realm.

>be someone's eternal slave

No it doesn't, especially not if you choose a patron who doesn't follow you after the jump. Some patrons, like Odin, can be exceedingly lenient in how you do jobs for them and you only have yourself to blame if you pick someone called the Red King. I'm pretty sure I remember you from previous threads where you bitched and whined at the slightest hint of doing work though, so I'm just going to overlook the hypocrisy of that while you're dependant on entertaining a cosmic benefactor to even come as far as you have-and before you snark about that, regardless of what you consider "entertainment" that doesn't change the fact that fundamentally, that's all you are to them. All your decisions. All your triumphs and failures. They just exist for someone to watch.

Look, I'm done here. You're resorting to cherrypicking based on your own spite and insecure power fantasy preferences.

We also install a hot tub in the warehouse and store my Horcrux inside. I'll have to remember to wheel it out of my warehouse whenever I'm expecting danger so I don't get stuck inside. While I understand where you are coming from, that also seems a bit unreasonable. There are a number of jumps that (to the best of my knowledge) don't provide extensive information about how magic works - like Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire, or the D&D jumps. (Harry Potter is 10 pages, Mage the Awakening is 40 pages.)

If you look at the most recent core book for Mage (the Ascension), it takes almost 40 pages to give a brief overview of how magic works. The actual section that goes into the nuts and bolts of how magic works is over 120 pages long - and Onyx Path is releasing a separate book just to discuss how to use the system for those who have trouble grokking it. And that's not even getting into the page count for details of the setting. The quick overview of all the factions involved is also over 120 pages long.

While I grok the system, and think it's fairly intuitive; I know it isn't to everyone, but I don't know that anyone wants to read a several hundred page long jump. I'll do my best, but I'd think any jumper has to be at least a little familiar with the setting. How else would anyone write or construct a narrative about his or her time there?

Or am I completely off base?
>>

>>
>>48081317
You seem chronically, pathologically insecure about servitude as a concept so I'm not going to push the issue beyond this post. I can see every single moment in your jumpchain is pure agony and humiliation for you.

I'm just here to answer the "why": Because they offer a package deal of powers, boons and misc. advantages for a very reasonable, discounted CP cost. More than what your Benefactor would offer you for 300 CP, most of the time.

That's a choice, but that shouldn't be a requirement.

>If a jump looks interesting but I'm not familiar with the world, I'll watch or read the source material to get a handle on it.
See above.

I get that you like the setting and you want to make a jump for the setting. That's great and I don't want to discourage that. However, you need to convey the particularities of the such that someone who isn't familiar with the setting can take the jump. Expecting someone to read the source material in order to take the jump is lazy jump making, IMO.

>The general rule of thumb is if an eye witness could notice the spell at its normal intensity it's Vulgar.
So fireballs are Vulgar because it's a big stonkin ball of fire. Fate manipulation isn't Vulgar because people can't see Fate. Healing may or may not be Vulgar, as healing is normal but someone regrowing a limb is not.

So, in broad strokes, if the effects can be explained away by the ordinary natural laws as experienced by normal folk then it's not Vulgar. Is that correct?

Healing isn't Vulgar because game balance. But yeah, a fireball is vulgar because it's clearly something supernatural happening. Conversely there's a forces spell for calling down lightning during a storm which is covert. Now notably if you try to spam a covert spell often enough that an actual physical nearby sleeper can go "now that just isn't at all natural" you can still get Paradox, but at a decreased die pool compared to casting something vulgar with sleeper witnesses. So for instance using the aforementioned call lightning spell a bunch of times on the same dude gets Improbable fast. Now normally if a spell is recognized as supernatural after casting by a Sleeper that would erode the spell some, but that's relatively slow and goes away post jump.

I do recommend just paging through the spells section for a more precise idea of what falls where, but that's the basics.

The problem with the examples you've cited is that they're more popular than Mage, so people are more likely to be familiar with them. You don't need a giant HP jump, because the books and movies have been widely consumed. D&D's mechanics are well known enough that they've memetic ubiquity. Mage is not like that at all.

You don't need a 700 page doc or, if you do, you're in serious need of an editor. Jumpchain is not a tabletop game, so you don't need to get down to the gnats ass on rolls and all that bullshit. Bully for you if you include that, but it's not necessary.

What is necessary is to include enough about the setting that people don't feel like they have to go spellunking the source material in order to make heads or tails of the jump.

>So for instance using the aforementioned call lightning spell a bunch of times on the same dude gets Improbable fast.

I am a slow anon, because despite hearing that example before it's only just occurred to me that if you need to hit the same dude multiple times with lightning where Sleepers can notice, either you are doing it wrong or shit is going down that makes risking a bit of Paradox the least of your worries.

>>
>>48081997
Yeah but if I can't buy the opposing magic form because of automatic "kaboom," I don't have a chance to use the perk with it.
>>
>>48081962
There's heavy variance on what's enough to kill, lightning is still a damage spell and those tend to be slightly more effective than shooting the guy by default (although if you have it as a Rote you may add an appropriate skill to the die pool, which gets ou of hand fast with jumpers). Although for a better example hitting four or so members of the same gang in a row would probably also cause issues. Which is why you vary your covert attack spells so no one of them tips over into improbability. Person A has a seizure while B is struck by lightening and C hits D with his car is far less likely to draw attention (though pushing it might not be a good idea).
>>
>>48082028
So. . .You Final Destination people to death, and that's largely Paradox free?
>>
>>48082077
Paradox is bullshit. Mage:tAwk 1E had an issue that some arcana were blatantly better than others, because very few of their spells are covert even when they are very powerful. Especially fucking Mind.
>>
>>48082028
Hey, in Percy Jackson, are is Fate a physical being like in Greek and Norse Mythology?
>>
>>48082077
Yep.

There's a LOT of bullshit you can pull that winds up being Covert, all it takes is knowing how to apply your shit.
>>
>>48082077
Pretty much. The benefits from High Speech and Tools would probably be best to forgo when casting subtly, because without drawing on stuff along those lines you don't even need to make an obvious show of casting. Vulgar magic causes special effects to pop up around your Mage, but Covert stuff is covert unless you really push it.
>>48082127
In apparent effects for that particular example, in that particular case it's three spells cast. Alternatively you just use Matter to make your weapons and armor absurdly good while making those of your opponent worse than useless. Also always nice is Knowing and Unveiling, which include stuff like easy 360 degree vision (forces or space), instant autopsy/diagnosis, or sensing all life in a radius dependent on how well you work the spell.
>>48082169
Yes, though it's more a cosmic force than a single being. The Fates/Norns/Whatever guise they pull are more mouthpieces. There's a reason Drop In's entire line revolves around messing with it.
>>
For those of you who took Vermin Lord in SMT what animal did you choose?
Personally I'm leaning towards spiders at the moment.
>>
>>48082163
And don't even get started on Spirit. AKA "I do everything the other Arcana can through some intermediaries Paradox free". It's less of an issue since Jumpers can tank backlash quite easily, but still notable.

Just because I decide to work on a jump, I can't allow anyone else who may be interested to work on an alternate for that jump if they want?

I'm definitely going to work on a Mage: The Ascension jump. I, personally, don't care if anyone else also works on another Mage: The Ascension jump, given they don't mind me working on mine.

If some rule says anyone else can't work on an alternate jump for it other than me now, fine. But, that seems pointless, as I don't care if someone else does or not.

This topic gave me an idea for an alternate method of handling the Mage the Ascension magic issue.

You could just have things focus on the paradigms instead of the more free form 'game mechanics' like stuff.

Basically instead of 'You have whatever ranks in these spheres', you could instead have ' You believe in a combination of the paradigm of the Dreamspeakers that everything has spirits, and the Syndidate paradigm of the value of money. You can thus convince spirits to accept checks and credit, because of course animist spirits understand capitalism. You insist they do.'

Actually this creates a question.

How would the fact that everything is technically magic in Mage the Ascension work when combined with perks that boost magic ability from other jumps, like is it just hand waved away for stuff not normally considered magic or would they now apply to literally everything you do?
>>
>>48082625
I had been led to believe that the Emperor's Mercy was a quick death. Is this incorrect?
>>
>>48082330
They range depending on how good you are with the Arcana you're using, one dots are immaterial annoyances, two dots can cause problems if not contained, three dots are threats to the average Mage and can take physical form but not big threats, they hit "equal to the Mage" tier at four dots, and are ridiculously strong at five by the standards of the game if they're an actual being. Really important thing though is not all high end Manifestations produce something you can punch, sometimes you get contagious frayed space or a false Awakening that burns out the poor fool who got it over a couple months. Although before 4 they're fairly time limited, and Manifestations only occur when you botch a Paradox roll hard and don't take damage to mitigate it. They're not even necessarily hostile to the Mage.

So basically it scales depending on power of the Mage, but even if you're using the good stuff it's easy to prevent unwanted Manifestations and they're solvable with effort. Now if you're one of those crazies who worship the Abyss they might be useful, but that's a very risky path.

Nah, generally happy to do this sort of thing. Enjoy researching mythology and putting together the powersets. Also a bit embarrassed about the jump needing this much input, keep meaning to throw together guidelines for wanking your own but have trouble with procrastination.
1. Going to bed right now, will research in morning, as well as hammering out more specific powersets for the Emperor (honestly probably just getting a bit of Law stuff and anti-divinity tricks in addition to what I already outlined), and Anansi.
2. Believe so. He'd be one of the weirder ones though. Azathoth even got an admittedly largely impractical but fun to mess around with and consider powerset outlined awhile back. It basically revolved around sleeping and creating temporary inaccessible worlds in your slumber that then are destroyed when you awaken. The issue being there's no easy way to get stuff to or from those worlds, and even if you did it would simply eject things added upon the destruction of the world and have anything taken from it disintegrate upon exiting it.
>>48082454
The community is very adamant about one jump to a setting. Megacorp (Darth Shinji on SB) tried to insist on a similar thing and got rebuffed hard. This isn't the sort of thing worth arguing over. You'll just end up tired and with a poor reputation (though admittedly I'm one to talk considering some of the rows I've gotten into on SB). Now if you want to subdivide and say make this a Traditions jump while leaving the Technocracy open for someone else (thereby saving a lot of effort on perks and detailing a completely different method of Willworking) that's the sort of thing people are fine with.

I would really appreciate any suggestions for what people want to see, like if you have any perk or gear ideas.

Social Networks are done, since they play a major part of the setting.
Skill packages are mostly done. May need more ideas.
Origin perks are half done. Need more ideas.
Morphs: done.
Augmentations: ...fuck, I dunno. I have a few packages but the sheer number of possible options are daunting.
Gear: Is half done. More ideas appreciated.
Companions: getting there, since the Modules have their own companions.
Drawbacks: Done.
Module 1: Firewall along with the Firewall missions is 75% done.
Module 2: Gatecrashing is 20% done.

Well, powerless again. I say powerless, but I do have a fair bit to throw around here. Still, I'm feeling blind and have none of my regular gear. I know there is a hostile guild out there and I know I would probably try and be diplomatic before going straight to annihilation usually. However, I'm having trouble remembering why. Aya's totally in favor of the find their base, sneak in, take their stuff and plant enough alchemical explosives to blow up a country before getting into the air far above them and dropping a meteor storm on them before teleporting home plan. Holy shit, Momon- I mean Ainz signed off on the plan(seems they managed to piss him off). We have a metric shit ton of explosives prepared and are ready to sneak in. I can't believe this is working. Much of the explosives are planted, almost the only thing left to do is get into their treasury and gank their stuff. There's a guard, of course there is a guard. He hasn't realized that Aya's an imposter yet! Ouch, that had to hurt(not for long, but still). We need to hurry, but it seems like they have a similar amount of stuff to what we have back at Nazarick, good thing I bought an inventory upgrade. Ok, we cleaned them out before anyone raised an alarm. First we teleport to the rendezvous, then we go up into the air with the help of flyers, mounts and items. Now for massed fire which should set off the explosives if we haven't timed this to coincide with the set triggers. That is a massive hole in the ground, and that should be the end of their interference barring any of them that may have been out at the time(though, they can be hunted down at a more leasurely pace).
