Really people stop asking for full casters clerics like this is a fucking MMO.
Also channeling sucks ass.
>>
>>47392713
Unchained probably, since it actually has neat rules. ACG has all the hybrid classes which are "Eh" at most unless you want to break the game over your wizard dick as an Arcanist. UI is similarly meh, and OA has a number of just nonfunctional stuff.

Or you could just download them all from the trove.

If the PCs in my campaign survive long enough to make it to the "Year of the Drow," most of the priestesses of Lolth will have levels of either Myrmidon or Ordained Defender and Battle Templar.

So /pfg/, got a question for you.

Do you require knowledge of an incoming attack to counter it? I know you can't counter if you're flat-footed, but I mean if it's the middle of combat (so you aren't flat-footed) and some guy attacks from stealth.
>>
>>47392921
If you aren't aware of an attack, you are considered flat-footed against the attack, so you can't counter based on the no counters while flat-footed clause.
>>
Just to note from the last thread, Neothelid uses all its SLAs as swift actions due to Divided Consciousness. Unless it's 1-rounded it teleports and full attacks whoever shot it.
>>
>>47392737
My party found an artifact amulet of +10 CHA, currently being used by the bard.

We were discussing who should use it if the bard is absent, and (ignoring the wizard, who somehow thinks he has dibs), the cleric tried to convince me (a paladin/warlord) that she should get it, because it would give her more uses of Channel Energy.

Which Paizo AP is the best one for a 1-on-1 "solo" game? GM is debating rebooting a RotRL campaign that wiped versus starting over and trying something else (Jade Regent, Hell's Vengeance, Reign of Winter) and isn't sure what would be the most fun.
>>
Anybody want to help me with an aether kineticist? I'm mostly conflicted over if I should switch from hobgoblin to ethumion (worse stats but better for the flavor) and if I should take the avant guard archetype. 32PB and I'm planning on filling the rogue/healer (burning a feat for kinetic healing) slot in the party.
>>
>>47392960
>balanced
Against which classes?
>>47392955
I think single-classed paladin outheals cleric with just lay on hands. More so if he's a tiefling and heals himself.
>>
>>47392960
"balanced" kind of depends on the rest of your party and what your GM is throwing at you.
>>
>>47393060
Tier 5 martials and tier 1 casters.
>>
>>47392949
Fair enough, but the full attack remains unimpressive. The DCs for its abilities aren't that scary either.
>>

:^)
>>47393096
Completely true, it just bugs me with everyone going 'lol archer it to death' while ignoring half its abilities. I do think a swift action (possibly mass) SoD per round is nothing to sneeze at either.
>>
>>47393133
I'll admit to having misread many of its abilities, mainly due to my lack of experience with psionicism.

Teleport not being Greater teleport can be a bit of a bitch as well, you still have a non-trivial chance of teleporting wrong if you're not fighting on your own territory (and savvy adventurers will try to engage the creature away from its sensors.)
>>
Aside from the DSP guys, are any anons here freelancers?

Anything new happen to Tzocatl playtest in the past months Ssalarn has gotten hold of it?

>>47393060
It's really about silver crane, since I only have two paladin levels. For aoe, I'm just about equal with argent knight's banner, and for myself, I'll always be better with argent king's scepter for self-heal 60.

Even then, CHA doesn't increase channel energy's potency, it increases uses of, which is much less important, especially because I have infinite uses. Since she's a merciful healer, she can't hurt undead with it anyways.

Skulls and Shackles.

They basically hand you a group of pirates in the beginning, and anything that requires more than one person can be solved with your pirate crew.

Additionally, the large amounts of gold the game throws at you (Boats are worth a lot) will mean that your solo player will be above the curve.

Just watch out for the shark teeth sorceress encounter. It nearly wiped my PoW party due to the setup shenanigans.

Question here, the Tattooed Sorcerer archetype grants a familiar, and the Serpentine bloodline grants a familiar at lvl3,

if you play a tattooed serpentine sorcerer do you get 2 familiars or one more powerful familiar, or do you just lose the lvl 3 familiar ability completely?

hey /pfg/, I need a little help

I am joining a party that will be 4 people when I join. Current party makeup is a Tiefling Kineticist looking to become a crime boss, Drow Cleric of Lamashtu and a Human Sorcerer.

I have access to any class (except gunslinger, unless I wanna be a local which I don't, or a gnome. And fuck gnomes) or race (within reason). I'm thinking about going something TN or CN to not conflict with the party's lawlessness (though they will have a soft spot).

My question, which will hopefully inspire my creativity: What race/class combo do I go?

I'm thinking I wanna play some sorta inventor/wannabe inventor who has run into cash troubles, but I have literally nothing else to work with besides that. Make a suggestion?

From the ones I've played, I'd say Curse of the Crimson Throne, from a story perspective.

The whole thing feels like it was written for a specific kind of character (a chaotic good Rogue/Ranger) and the one-on-one nature would probably enhance a lot of the NPC relationships.

When Paizo nerfs the classes from Pathfinder Unchained.

That was the last Paizo hardcover I bought. I'm not getting Ultimate Intrigue or Occult Adventures. The last paperback was the Weapon Master's Handbook.

I haven't bought the Golarion setting books.

I've bought a couple of books from DSP.

If Paizo keeps ignoring input about their products, like deleting negative comments on their board, I might move over to 5E.

Well no, flat-footed is literally just "you haven't gone in combat yet". If you've acted in combat, you're not flat-footed. As another example, a Rogue with Uncanny Dodge can never be caught flat-footed, but if you were to sneak up and attack him he wouldn't have been aware of the incoming attack.
>>
>>47393335

The lovely part about TTRPGs is that company's can't truly ruin a game because every DM houserules to an extent.

If Paizo makes shit content, everyone just ignores it.

Whilst some of the low level stuff for PoW scales well, it's pretty clear that the higher level manoeuvres are better. However the swapping out option only occurs every four levels.

Is it possible to use the retraining rules to 'retrain a class feature' and thus ensure your manoeuvres and stances are all high level?
>>

There will come a day when we lose the PFSRD, when DSP is no more and the Archives of Nethys are purged. When the Trove is shut down by international agreement, and only Paizo's books remain, with all lore polluted and detestable, all rules erratad into meaninglessness. When even the Fullcasters are accidentally nerfed to Tier 6, meeting the Doom of the Truenamer. When /tg/ is dead and no source of free PDF's remains. When I sit alone at a desk, bereft of time for fear of surrendering a minimum-wage job.

But this is not that day.
>>

Swapping is every even level from 4 on (which is the first even level with 2nd level maneuvers)

It's also been corrected to even Initiator levels, not just class levels, so prestiging doesn't cost you swaps.

>>
>>47394031
I'm not even clear on what they DO other than qualifying you for new versions of feats that do what they should have to begin with.
>>
>>47394134
Mythic tiers also get you new Path abilities, and new basic Mythic abilities.
>>
>>47394123
They actually are doing stuff, last I saw they were working on getting all the 3.5 classes (e.g. ToB) and races that people like over but it seems like they're doing that slowly to keep it in flavor with the world and have premade adventures that fit them releasing at the same time. They seem to have just wrapped up the underdark for now but it could all just be a clever ploy to get our hopes up. Pathfinder (with 3PP and removing the errata) is still better.

>>47393975

>>
>>47394074
According to her profile, at level 12, you're looking at 1d4+3. 50% chance that would do 1 point of damage over a young adult black dragon's DR.

It doesn't look like a crit, but I'm a generous guy and say 2d4+3. So on average, 3 damage.

Maybe it's a sneak attack, but it didn't look like a flanking. I'm not that generous.
>>
>>47394226
You can't flank with ranged attacks. Normally anyway. There might be feats, but she sure as fuck doesn't have them.
>>
>>47394226
In the comic she hurt everything, from skeletons to major demons with those throwing knives.
>>
>>47394267
Maybe she's just like... played by the DM's girlfriend or something.

She doesn't know how to play the game exactly, so the DM just kind of... has her do some kind of reasonable amount of damage.
>>
>>47394257
Oh right, I thought it worked if the target was flanked by other people, but I see it's only if the rogue is flanking.

>>47394267
Against skeletons, same problem. 50% of 1 damage.

Against major demons, please don't make me laugh.
>>
>>47393352
Shoka, is that you?

>>47392995
Hell's Vengeance is actually pretty swell, if you're solo you can definitely survive as an Inquisitor and there's at least one NPC follow-along in the beginning.
>>
>>47394304
*50% of 1-2 damage, 50% of no damage.

>>47394374

So yeah, depends on how good you are without it. If you can still do alright without it, then it's fine to only get it later.

If it takes you until level 11 to start being useful at all, and have to play those levels, maybe rethink it.

>>
>>47394374
Depends on where you start and how far your group usually goes. I personally have only played to 11 and beyond once.

In general you should always be able to contribute to combat. In one game I had a sword saint with negative dexterity that wanted to pick oracle and stack some other stuff so he could essentially replace everything DEX does with CHA.
We started level 1. He died level 1.

Had another game that had a homebrew feat that granted dex to damage with finesse weapons with weapon finesse as a prerequisite. Our paladin wanted to play with dex and had 10 str elven curved blade. It was the most miserable 8 sessions I've ever seen. We relegated him to force-feeding healing potions to people that actually contributed to combat.
>>

Eh, I thought the Goblins one was passable. Not great, but passable.
>>
>>47394375
cursedrolls, of all people
>>
>>47394374
Depends on the class. If you have a feat-intensive weapon style that's shit until level 11 but you're a Magus anyway, you can just pick up a weapon anyway and the class is still built to work without feats and flexible enough to not need to rely on mediocre melee performance all the time. If you're a Fighter, too bad, you don't have spells or even *skills* and your only non-feat offense feature is a Weapon Training with the thing you can't get working yet.

I've had a boatload of technological prosthesis.

One character got his eyes gouged out by a titan as recompense and he couldn't get them magically regenerated or the titan would come after him. Got two cybernetic eyes.

Later on he was given a blank cheque in the Mechanist's Empire, he had his skin replaced with nat armor, and all his arms and legs replaced.
My teammate also had his eyes gouged out, his were replaced with ethereal-attuned ones.

I have one or two questions about the Battle Templar

1. What exactly are you expending when you use Divine Inspiration? Do you not have to expend a spell like Divine Recovery?

2. The 'sacrificed to power this ability' part of Battlefield Invocation doesn't let you use Divine Recovery off that spell to recover a maneuver, right?
>>
>>47395075
I'd give it a shot. Here's what I think is a good start for the basics of class bulding:
>all classes have "full caster progression"; some classes gain maneuvers and others gain magic spells.
>The progression continues across multiclassing/prestige, and can be used interchangeably for maneuvers or spells.
>Caster level/initiator level is removed, power is based on the spell slot used. "Heighten Spell" would be built into the system and not metamagic.
>Give the option at level 1 to use traditional spell slots or spell points.
>Prepared casters/martials have the advantage of flexibility and larger spell/maneuver lists. Prepared spells work like Arcanist.
>Spontaneous casters/martials has a smaller spell/maneuver list, but have abilities to recover spent spell slots during the day or empower them in some fashion. Spells known are not broken down by spell level, but a pool of knowing X spells per level.

This way a fighter is the wizard of martials and the barbarian is the sorceror of martials. Fighters have more utility and larger access to maneuvers, barbarians get empowered by raging.

Wizards and sorcerers work basically as is.

1/2 casters get 6th level maneuvers and 4th level spellcasting.

2/3 casters get 6th level casting and 4th level maneuvers.

Some other needed changes:
>removing cohorts/animal companions/etc. as autonomous independent initiative actions.
>removing metamagic
>removing typed bonuses
>making crafting more interesting beyond breaking WBL

Reality was a memory, a simulation being run by billions of illithid at the end of time to preserve themselves before the black hole that was the sun destroyed reality.

The simulation was becoming more corrupted with each iteration until we inevitably would be trapped in endless torment and horror. The odds of finding a solution would be infinitesimally small.

There have been at least 8 campaigns run by the same GM over the ages in that cosmology. The party voted and contested over what to do. PCs + NPCs that were presented voted 4 v 3 against ending the simulations (and then rolled and totaled the contest). The result was to end the simulations and let the sun destroy everything.

On the bright side, after a few trillion years, the singularity eventually gave birth to a new Sun and Void.

DSP has two kineticist archetypes, one (the Avant Guard) that has an alternate burn mechanic to get them truly A L L D A Y, and comes with a pet astral construct they can teleport around the battlefield. I'd say they're a very high tier 4; they're limited by what kineticists can do, but they're good in combat and REALLY good at their specific utility focus. As someone noted in an earlier thread, they scale extremely well with clever use of their all day abilities and Square Peg/Round Holing situations. So basically, a JoJo character.

The other one (the Gambler) trades most of the kineticist stuff for psionic powers. They get no wild talents, infusions, etc. In exchange, they get 1-6 manifesting and functionally limitless power points... With a catch. They have an "overheat meter" instead of burn, which they build up to fuel their abilities, then "Cash Out" to generate power points. They can stick powers on their blasts kinda like an Arcane Archer, as infusions of sorts.

Avant Guard is what you go for if you want to be a /kineticist/. It's great, and I'm really enjoying mine. Gambler is what you go for if you want to be a /blaster/. They're like the equivalent of a Vitalist for blasting.

worth noting is that this is for level 12+.

PF is decently balanced (though not necessarily well balanced) until you hit about level 7, and then it goes downhill. It's why E6 (you stop leveling at 6, but monsters are still stronger than humanity) was such a popular gametype back in 3.5

Hey.

So Amateur Swashbuckler doesn't let you take Parry and Riposte anymore.

But the stamina trick for it is 'pick a second 1st level deed, can use panache or 5 stamina to use either of the two' and doesn't have the 'no parry+riposte' caveat.

Would it be reaching if I took that as it not HAVING said limit?
>>
>>47398426
Considering that I'm using it as a rogue/healer I'd be avant guard, how is it for combat? Also should I go with a hobgoblin for the stats or an ethumion for the fun?
>>
>>47399345

If you're playing a kineticist, you're just going to drive yourself crazy if you're going for numbers. Go for the fun stuff.

Besides, ethumions are better adventurers than hobs.
>>
>>47399359
Plus since I'm playing them as a fortune teller it would work better. Here's the question, do I drop the stats and take human stats (my DM is nice) or do I not and possibly change my point buy (32 points)?
>>
the Dervish Defender's Two-Weapon Defense ability requires "wielding a weapon in each hand". Does it activate if I have Improved Unarmed Strike but are otherwise unarmed?
>>
>>47399345
Avant Guard has all the utility of a normal kineticist, except that they explicitly can't use the kinetic healing stuff. They do combat really well though.

Ethumions would have less burn drawbacks and do more damage if you pick Wood as your basic element and be stupidly fun, but you can emulate their gimmick with Aether, since Telekinetic Haul's duration is set to non-concentration when an Avant Guard uses it.

>>47399359
Avant Guards get free burn reduction, which means they're pretty much always using metakinesis'd composite blasts. They can also get a feat to expend psionic focus to reduce their gather power by one action type (letting you full-round gather as a move).

And the summon, on top.

Though low-level avant guards don't have a true blast.
>>
>>47398888
「The Man Who Sold The World」, may he rest in peace.
>>
>>47399438
You'll automatically get Crystalline Needle Blast at 7th though at least to compensate, but it doesn't do much as it's not the specific blasts you need for new combos.
>>
>>47399438
I need aether for telekinetic finesse to do ranged rouge shit and why can't they use kinetic healing?
>>
>War soul and psychic armory are stackable

>but you can't take the war soul ability to shape any discipline weapon (ie all of them)

I just wanted to be able to pull tons of weapons out of my ass, I'd understand if I couldn't panopoly AND warsoul but to prevent it entirely is a real buzzkill
>>
>>47399309

Yes, at least until Paizo nerfs Unchained. Technically the combat trick is what's giving you the second deed, not the Amateur Swashbuckler feat itself.
>>
>>47399438
>Avant Guards get free burn reduction, which means they're pretty much always using metakinesis'd composite blasts

Not until way late level, you're not.
Check how that burn reduction scales.
At level 7 when you get composite blast, a move action gather power will only let you use an unmetakinesis'd composite - you'd need a full round gather otherwise.
You can't fire off empowered composite blasts every turn until level 11 (Or you use some really weird multiclassing tricks with the psionic focus feat that might exist but I don't know of)
>>
>>47399525
I think Aether is one of the most fun elements for Avant Guard, since it has the best utility and Crystalline Needle Blast + Astral Construct make up for the element having weaker blasts.

I do appreciate the fact that we /could/ use Avant Guard with other elements if we wanted, though.

They also can't use kinetic healing because an easy source of infinite healing will trigger the more casual playerbase.
Nevermind that Gambler can do it anyway
>>
>>47399596

>>

I'm totally fine with that, I was actually going to fight with my DM for that ruling if the text said otherwise.

The real question is how would you stat an ethumion kineticist with a 32 point PB? Also what would you name the stand since my character is going to be a fortune teller with a harrow deck I'm tempted to name it one of the harrows.
>>
>>47399653
Yaay Layne or did I guess wrong again
>>
So as a PC, what're you supposed to do if you were born without a soul? You think like them, you feel like them, but you've got no place to go?

Is there any point in trying to be Good, when you'll never get anything for it? Is there any point in trying to be Evil, when the rewards are pointless and fleeting? Is there any point trying to fit in, when you were never part of the plan? When even the gods don't know how you happened?

When the rest of your party won't let you muse on the nature of your own existence for like five minutes while they're preparing spells or something? I mean, come on, it's not like they're doing anything else. Why not just let you have this?
>>
>>47399596
I think that what they're doing is having the Gambler keep it because it';s a bit subtler. Kineticists with burn reduction and non-burn healing would trigger people, but "you can use your abilities in a roundabout way to heal using psionics" is less "kineticist ALL DAY REEE"

If gambler is the "blaster"...
Okay how do I make him blast a lot?

They only get the simple blast, and there's a limit of burn per round (say, 3 at 8th) so the most I could do is what, Raise the Stakes for a level 2 power (3 burn), giving me a 4d6 blast and maybe 9d6 with an empowered psi-power?

So with 6 con bonus and that ring from Kineticists of Porphyra and +2 (4 damage) from overflow...

4d6+11 with maybe 9d6 followup? Costing me preparation with a cash-out for PPs, focus recovery, and my full round? All this for 56 damage?

Even in an area, I'd be doing what, Psionic Howl for 9d4 to 30ft.

What am I missing here.

Overchannel, augmentations, etc. Cash Out is a move action, so you can convert burn gathered before combat into free PP. Then you burn psionic focus for empower power, overchannel for +ML, and do a fully-augmented blaster power on top of some extra damage. Let's say you do Elemental Roulette for Energy Stun (fire). ML+1 or 2 d6, +1 per die, and a save or stun.

Or if you do psionic howl, do that. Raise the Stakes lets you do an AoE blast AND a kinetic blast with the same action.

Or maybe you use Double or Nothing on an Elemental Roulette Energy Ray. 4d6+11 and the 9d6+9 follow-up, but BOTH count as a crit, so if you're going for single-target damage, you get to try to confirm that crit, for a potential double on each of those.
>>
>>47399572
Don't forget Meditation applies, here. It's -1
At level 8 Infusion Specialization becomes 2. That'll let you add to your blast.
So you just have the 3 of an empowered to deal with.

Meditation handles 1, so it's just a matter of getting a boost to Gather Power. At level 7 you could grab Kinetic Acceleration, which will let you get that 1 from gather while you're hasted (also helps accuracy).

Speaking of... here's a question:
Are you allowed to grab Extra Burn for an Avant Garde? This would not change maximum reduction by 20th, but actually makes your meditation growth 4 levels faster (and has NO other effect for an avant-garde).
>>
>>47399634

I knew about the pre-charge with a full burn, but I forgot double or nothing was free and not a swift

Okay let's see. Play the Odds lets me lower wager costs (any and all of them individually) by 1 before 8th. So I COULD double or nothing AND raise the stakes for a 3rd level power right?

So Double or nothing makes it physical, which ups the damage a little bit to 4d6+4+CON, that ring gives me another +4, overflow another +4. 4d6+18. Average 32 so 64 if I hit and confirm. The followup would be either single target like crystal ray for 9d6 also threat, which could mean an additional 62 damage. OR, for area, I can use Concussive Onslaught at 4d6/rd for 7 rounds?

Can one make an antipaladin that can act neutral if she is indulging in her hedonistic desires? I ask because I wanted to play a Kuroko-like character (from the manga series Murcielago; pic related) who is only tamed (somewhat) through being provided a very hedonistic lifestyle. I would think that a chaotic evil character would care more about themselves more than anything else and would be fine with not committing stupid amounts of evil acts as long as she could kill the enemies placed in front of her (allowing her to still have her fun through murder) and practically do whatever (and whomever) she wants.

Could I convince a DM to allow this sort of character into the party or would they be able to pull the "No! You're an antipaladin, so if you're not trying to spread mayhem and destruction to everything/destroy all good then you lose your powers!"?
>>
>>47400020
Yeah, that looks about right.
>>
>>47399968
I wasn't applying it there. Empower is 1, the composite is 2.

I pointed it out because it DOES allow you to put a cheap infusion in on your blast while you're at it, and you may as well.
>>
>>47400023
Why an antipaladin and not something that is evil but not specifically Anti-Goodness?
>>
>>47400023
>Alignment discussion
It hugely depends on the DM, just as alignment judgment itself usually does.

Just find a chill guy and run the idea past him, it's definitely not unreasonable.
Too many people confuse chaotic evil with chaotic stupid.
>>
>>47400023
It's entirely up to the DM. And if you're adventuring you probably aren't going to be living comfortably so hedonism isn't likely to be attainable.
>>
>>47400034
Oh, I see.
The real reduction is coming from other third-party stuff.

Which would be cool but depends on the GM allowing other third party - a number of games I've seen have the 'only DSP, other sources subject to review' caveat for third party.
>>
>>47400055
Because of the "Aura of Cowardice" in particular. This character idea used to be just a normal Intimidate fighter build, but I found that way too many things get fear resistance/mindlessness. Hell, I can't even affect any Paladins with that build.

My character was already chaotic evil/chaotic neutral (depending on if the DM allowed a serial killer to be chaotic neutral if they didn't always serial kill) so when I found out that the antipaladin gets an aura that helps me deal with anti-fear enemies (not mindless ones still) I immediately thought "My character is still viable".

The character build is 100% intimidate based, so if I don't go the antipaladin then I need to go a Dread (3rd party class), which is even less allowed than antipaladin characters.
>>
>>47393335
When they ignored all of the input from the alpha playtest and fucked up Rogue hardcore because Buhlman didn't like them.
>>
>>47400062
Adventuring in itself could be fun to the character concept. Worst comes to worst, she may have to rape a pretty girl or a few; though the character concept prefers trying to seduce them over and over. She may enjoy killing, but she's not super edgy; she's supposed to be a serial killer that acts pretty goofy and laid back when not doing the whole "killing" thing. This means that alcohol, women, and killing random chucklefucks that she is pointed at while going around the world sounds like a hell of a great time. Depending on the world, she could even heckle a king or two (or sleep with a queen/princess). Her "evil" would be complete selfishness (though she'd pretend to care) without a care of who it hurts/benefits.

There's movement and healing in PoW. And veilweavers, or at least Vizier, are casters. They are just T3 casters.

As someone who has played the Guru extensively. It's not a caster in the least.

Well, are you necessarily to be going into a dungeon and fighting a mindflayer in a modern setting?

I'm not saying you can't, but likewise, a modern setting doesn't mean people are going to be low-magic.

If you're assuming mordern setting applies to the players, you need to assume it applies to the challenges they'll face too.

A modern setting is more likely to have like, gangsters and stuff.

On the other hand, its totes possible to retrain a level and redo your spell selection. (refer to the pfsrd)
>>
>>47401850
I think while you can pretend that sorcs have perfect control over their bloodline on regular levelups, to retrain a spell they need to find someone able to cast it and willing to teach them.

>>
>>47401903
Depends on what you're doing. If you're using roll20 and setting up battlemaps from scratch it's gonna be a fair amount of work. It also helps if you know where your party is going and you only have to prepare one path and not all possibilities.

If you're running a module you really only need to read it ahead of time once.

We had one DM who literally just made up 90% of the session on the fly. It was absolutely miserable.

I personally spend like 3 hours actively preparing a 5 hour session and an indeterminate amount of time just thinking about it at random times of the day.
>>
>>47401903
Depends on your GMing style, how much preparation you need to do, what you're running and what kind of group you have. Some people can run just fine with little to no preparation(though for system like Pathfinder, you should, at the very least, have statblocks for various enemies and NPCs at hand - you might be able to bullshit your way through an encounter with goblins with no statblocks, but running a mid-level wizard is considerably more challenging), others need at least an hour of preparation for each hour of play. And that's before figuring the kind of game you want to run - a light-hearted dungeoncrawl only requires the dungeon layout and encounters thought-out, while a different kind of campaign would require all that plus contingencies for what happens if the players decide to go somewhere else instead. It might occasionally be okay to break the session early when things don't go as planned, but that should be reserved for when when the players do something TRULY unexpected, like deciding to run away from the city to foreign lands of which you don't even have a map.

Also remember that it's better to prepare too much than too little.

>Well no, flat-footed is literally just "you haven't gone in combat yet".

No, it is NOT. Where did you get that idea from? Flat-footed basically means you are unable to avoid the attack, and thus unable to apply any dodge bonus to your AC including and not limited to your dexterity modifier. And yes, if you are caught unaware of an attack, you are flat-footed as you can't avoid something you don't see coming.

Uncanny Dodge represents having reflexes so sharp so can react fast enough not to be mechanically flat-footed. Think dodging the last second.
