I'm not sure what saddens me more - that people come up with weirdest, silliest complains for whatever reason (attention? or they just like challenge other people?), or that they get their way if they are loud enough about it.
>>
>>46377735
Her eyes were blatantly the wrong color to anyone who knew the lore.
>>
>>46377797
What was significant about Azshara's eyes?
>>
>>46377853
They were amber like Illidan's used to be, which had extreme significance in their culture at that time.

The problem is that the original model was based on fanart which gave her the wrong hair and eye colors.
>>
>>46377216
Yeah, but when he had the chance she still had one.

Though I bet she still has the means to...invite males to her private chambers.

Also do Naga reproduce somehow? Or do they come out from Spawning Pools ala Warhammer Lizardmen?

It is a mystery.

The old one was fine, but it wasn't Azshara if it lacked her most notable physical feature.
>>
>>46378065
WCIII had Spawning Pools, but that would be ridiculous if they couldn't reproduce like snakes given the fact that there are males and females.

Also male snakes have two dicks.
>>
>>46378135
They reproduce

>>46378113

Nope. Those would be Coral Beds. Spawning Pools were the equivalent of Barracks.

It's not even that fucking sexual. Just a bit sexy and a bit cute.
Something feminists should be praising. But no, the loudest voices are the jealous fatties who are pathetically insecure about their fat asses.
Petition for Blizzard to use this pose instead is apparently running in a few places.
>>
>>46379354
It's almost the same problem Bayonetta has: a female (protagonist) who is empowered by her sexuality and confidence should be shunned. In Tracer's case, it's still mostly confidence.
>>

It's the same sluts who proclaim "Don't slut-shame me!" who then turn around and try to shame fiction for being the remotest bit slutty.

I've only seen total biscuit's satire and of it and from it looks like one person was complaining about the pose being out of character for sex sells.

Which is honestly bullshit, the character is taunting her defeated enemies a bit by showing off. She's wearing a skin tight, bright yellow suit for fuck's sake. If the possibility of people checking her out was so traumatic she'd be something different or behaving differently with that outfit.

Lore rage and waifuism are the only reasons these threads have continued for... however long they've been going.

I vaguely regret starting it all.
>>
>>46380321
>lore-arguing
To be fair, if a campaign is going to be run in the Warcraft universe, it helps to understand what we're talking about and what, if anything, may be altered. That's half the fun of these threads: fiddling with the extensive Warcraft lore and seeing what can be pulled out.
>>
>>46380422
That'd be fine if it wasn't the same fucking dueling argument for the last three threads, and just pure shitflinging.
But that's not going to happen.
>>
>>46380323

>>46380568
It has a few races that only need minor adjustments, Nyss getting shadowmeld instead of the frost resist fire vulnerability, more ranged accuracy etc for the transfer of Trollkin to trolls (Espescially jungle trolls, maybe reducing something else in exchange)

Doing playable Orcs, Ogres, Mok'Nathal and Tauren gets complicated because they're all fighting for the same bunch of stats.
>>
>>46380654
Do you give the Trolls a massive bonus to climbing? Lorewise, those guys climb trees, cliff faces, and cave walls without any equipment and at a pretty fast speed too.
>>
>>46380583

They communicate exclusively through forceful telepathy and invoking positive emotions on people (BE NOT AFRAID), they hang around their own personal species of fanatical Light-demons, and they brainwashed an entire army of blood elves. They were perfectly chill with the Titans(known genocidal murderbots), and basically let the Draenei get almost-genocided because "OOOH THE LIGHT".

>>Titans are all dead, genocidal robots who fucked up at every single turn because MUH UNDERSTANDING
Well, that's true enough. Except the robot part.

I mean, it's said that they didn't just leave self-destruct stations on Azeroth, but actually every world they visited just in case they fell into disorder. And this was -before- they even knew about the Old Gods. You have to wonder what their standards must have been like, because there's no point putting that sort of thing there unless you want to make genocide simpler and more convenient. Who knows how many races they destroyed because they weren't satisfied with the results?
>>

Yes they did. Straight from Chronicles.

>The Pantheon also embedded colossal machines in the surface of the worlds that they had shaped. Through these devices, the titans could monitor their worlds—and purge them of life should their evolutionary paths succumb to disorder.

Genocide was an official policy of theirs.

Ahahahaha. No. For fuck's sake, when people bring up the RPGs and the lore contained in those supplements, they usually get told off immediately for not being canon, for not being real, and for not playing the setting right.

This thread is literally just a /v/-tier thread of waifu wars and shitflinging.

>>46381763
"Evolutionary paths succumb to disorder" is a whole fuckton more general than "In case of old gods or demons" anon. It sounds more like a hard reset of the planet if their petri dish didn't grow the particular kind of specimen they were looking for.
>>
>>46382020
>I don't know of any such instances.

Priestess Delrissa.
>>
>>46380218
Most of the time people just ask what system they should use, where people usually reply Iron Kingdoms.

Truth be told, I don't really see anything wrong with the Warcraft and WoW ttrpg apart from some meta aspects, and I don't think you'll ever see anyone capable enough have a serious go at those in these threads.

So the RPG is unsalvageable.

There's also the situation that a lot of people don't really give a concrete idea of what a 'good' warcraft rpg should look like and barely post anything besides campaign hooks.
>>
>>46381998
They get told off citing the RPG supplements as fact, when they weren't considered true canon WHEN THEY WERE WRITTEN.

They're great possibilities, but assuming anything written in the RPGs is accurate when it contradicts WoW is flawed.

It's the different between
>How do I adapt [RPG lore] to a campaign when [WoW lore] contradicts it?
versus
>[RPG lore] is right, even if the writers have introduced lore that very obviously supersedes it.
>>
>>46382096
>"Evolutionary paths succumb to disorder" is a whole fuckton more general than "In case of old gods or demons" anon.

Only because you believe it to be so.
Disorder in the universe is represented by fel magic. Fel magic turns shit into demons.
>>
>>46382158
So phlogiston is much better off being some random quilboar's juice that you use to make a single set of armor, rather than the ubiquitous power-source for most powered technological devices?

Yeah, Kosak and Metzen are definitely much better are coming up with concepts and ideas that surpass the understanding of the world that the RPG books were written with.
>>
>>46382209
>Goblins are getting dumber and don't understand their own technology even though their technology has been shown to get continuously better in the time frame of the games
>>
>>46382209
That's not what anon was saying at all. He didn't say official canon was better, he just said that it was official canon.

The big problem, that lead to a hell of a long debate the other day was a few anons declaring the RPGs as canon, rather than a non-canon source that could be used for ideas to change canon for your own campaigns; which is what actually are good for.
>>
>>46382209
>So phlogiston is much better off being some random quilboar's juice that you use to make a single set of armor, rather than the ubiquitous power-source for most powered technological devices?

The idea that smoke somehow can be re-ignited was an absurd superstition-tier scientific theory that I am almost glad wasn't ever fully made canon in WoW.

It's sorta interesting, I guess it could be trapped elemental energy but literally "Particles you can vacuum up from a smoke cloud" was dumb.,
>>
>>46382244

Well, go and try to start a discussion. I mostly just want to see the classes and races worked out to be appropriate to the current lore. Things like the height chart and population numbers were obviously fucked up in the old RPG.

If we could figure out how to stat all of the basic things properly, using all of our knowledge of the lore, that would be very helpful.

>>46384182
That's part of it. Mostly, Sylvanas's issue stems from her initial identity crisis at the end of Wrath. After killing Arthas, she decided there was nothing left to live for and killed herself. Then she discovered she was damned to the Nether alongside Arthas before being resurrected. Sylvanas decided "holy shit, now I know what to live for: preventing my death and damnation." In truth, the val'kyr recruiting, plague-deploying and EK-conquering Sylvanas is, in fact, a paranoid Sylvanas who, for the first time, is terrified of her mortality.
>>
>>46384273
Didn't she try killing herself by jumping off a ledge? When she's really a banshee puppeteering her own damn corpse? I mean, that's how it was in TFT. Hell, Banshee Queen is her title!

Sylvanas is retarded.
>>
>>46384345
Banshees in WC3 died when the unit they possessed died, you never got them back.
>>
>>46384477
I think that would be grossly oversimplifying how the system works. Warlocks tend to use both Fel and Void, while Shadow Priests focus entirely on Void yet have a different approach to it, and so on.

Shaman, Mages, and Warlocks can probably all conjure fire in the right conditions, but they clearly do it differently.

>>46384529
Probably because it's not that simple. Here's the exact passage for what it's worth.

>A thousand feet below, shrouded by the clouds, lay a forest of shattered saronite spikes she had scouted out earlier. The fall alone couldn't kill her: her animate flesh was nigh indestructible. But the spikes, the hardened blood of an Old God, they not only would tear the body apart but would obliterate the soul as well.

Shit, it's like you want to get kicked out of the Kirin Tor. What a troublemaker, digging that deep into the riskier aspects of magic. Why can't you be a respectable Mage and just content yourself to Frost and Arcane, Kel?
>>
>>46384741
>Liches specialize in Frost and necromancy.
>>
>>46384605
Oh, the problem with the dark void wasn't that she was alone. She had plenty of company in there. Arthas was there too, as well these pleasant fellows who were torturing them both.

>There were others in the darkness. Things she didn't recognize, because nothing so terrible could exist in the world of the living. Claws tore at her, but she had no mouth with which to scream. Eyes looked at her, but she couldn't look back.

>In the grand landscape of all the world's suffering and all the evils of the infinite, the Lich King was… insignificant. Now the others had her. Surrounded her. Gleeful, tormenting, tearing at her consciousness, delighting in her suffering.

They're probably related to the Void Lords in the current lore.

>>46384709
It isn't completely separate. Fel and Arcane are on the same scale of Order/Disorder, with a loosely comparable relationship to Light/Void or Life/Death.

Well, a little strange perhaps for first generation Liches, but from the second wave that were members of the Cult of the Damned, it's hardly surprising that Dalaran-trained mages would be gifted in Frost magic, given that it is one of the two primarily supported curricula.

I did always find it odd that they didn't give Kel'Thuzad and other liches didn't at least have some Fire spells, given that it is the magical gateway drug into the perversion of dark magic.
>>
>>46384818

BTW, if you guys are planning to do a campaign, try tackling low to mid tier threats with your murderhobos.

Cold and darkness (Necromancy) should probably be closer to to each other than fire.

Kel'Thuzad actually knew all schools of magic extremely well and was a powerful member of the council. I think he might have had his frost and shadow magic amplified to insane levels becoming a lich though because he is a (un)living conduit of it and he plays to his strengths.

Primarily come from orcish pyremasters, really. And those are probably more elementals than true undead in any fashion, simply swaddling the bones of the dead much in the way that mages bind them through bracers.

Except that goes contrary to all of Azeroth's magical theory, as there is a simply progression of magical purity starting from the most ordered and restrained leading to the increasingly volatile and corrupting.

You expected the two most requested and hardcore Alliance/Anti-Orc characters in Warcraft to put in an appearance? You should know Kosak and Metzen better than that by now. There's no way either of them could be written as pro-horde in any way or form, so of course they're going to be killed off offscreen.

Look at it this way, with Turyelon and Alleria dead by author fiat, there's no way for them to get the Jaina treatment and be called evil for daring to hold any horde power to task for their actions. It's ultimately a net win for the Alliance.
>>
>>46386719
Also, the Death Knight class is based on Arthas, who was turned into an undead warrior against his will, because of Frostmourne fucking with his soul.

The PCs take after WC3 DKs more than the previous versions.

Bull fucking shit, Arthas knew what he was doing was wrong but did it anyway.

He may not have grasped the full consequence, but the reason his story was good at all was because he chose his path.

Well yeah, he chose to pick up the sword without knowing the full consequences. That's what makes the turning undead part against his will.

I'm not saying he did no wrong, I'm just saying he may have hesitated if he knew exactly what he was signing up for. Though it is Prince Dickhead we're talking about here, so maybe he'd have still grabbed the sword, I don't know.

>>

The difference being that Arthas asked for the power, damning the circumstance and the PC's were just unfortunate enough to be raised sapient.

There still isn't choice on their behalf, if they had chosen to be Death knights at the expense of their freewill it would work more like Arthas because they are bargaining darkness for power no matter what it turns them into or whatever curse will follow.

Kalimdor was unreachable until the events of RoC, shrouded in mists just like Pandaria was. It's the reason there was never any knowledge of it or its people, even as you have major naval powers plying the seas.
>>
>>46387345
I believe people just avoided trying to cross the Maelstrom, Goblins had long plied all major continents bar Pandaria.
>>
>>46387312
I always went with the simplest explanation. The whole thing used to be one continent, so some Vrykul or Humans probably just wandered over there before the Night Elves blew everything up.

It's not that hard to explain, as long as we don't forget the Pangaea thing.

Not for the most part. The Sunstrider lineage always had a few atypical features for Night Elves, but the rest of the Highborne looked pretty much like the rest.

>>46387384

Nope, after the Quel'Dorei left in exile, the kaldorei enshrouded Kalimdor in mist and retreated from the world. The barrier was broken during Reign of Chaos, either by the Legion in the build-up to the Battle of Hyjal or by Medivh as he led the Outcasts to Kalimdor for the Battle of Hyjal.

Straight from in-game lorebooks:
>The surviving Kaldorei, now known as night elves, abandon the use of arcane magic. They seclude themselves near Mount Hyjal and the World Tree and begin practicing a safer form of divine nature magic. In the following years, they exile the arcane-addicted Highborne and enshroud Kalimdor in mist.

>>
>>46387549

Okay. Besides, goblins are an expansionistic trade empire that passive shits explosives and unexploded ordinances wherever they go.

Do you not beleive they'd have swept in as soon as the barrier went down, preying upon the Horde remnants eagerly for coin and profit? Besides, every major goblin settlement on Kalimdor is on the eastern half of the continent which makes it seem even more likely that they simply sailed in as soon as they could and started exploiting whatever terrain they landed in. There's no real reason to believe that the goblins had been there for any extensive period of time, and if they had been, do you really think they wouldn't be selling Kalimdor imports to human nobles back home?

Even more amusing, they also tend to more or less serve as Warcraft Kathmandu, as well. Everlook's primary draw is the fact that it's the last speck of civilization before people attempt to climb Hyjal and reach the Summit, while K3's inspiration seems pretty heavily drawn from Everest Base Camp with a name pointing towards the neighboring and second-tallest peak.

>>

Just quoting the RPG books.

>This town is the last point of civilization before reaching Hyjal Summit. It is run by goblins as a trading post and is officially neutral to all races and factions. Even so, pilgrims allowed to venture up to the World Tree stop here, but otherwise this is the highest that merchants and explorers may venture without the night elves’ permission. Everlook would offer a commanding view of Kalimdor, if it were not at such a high altitude that clouds constantly shroud the mountain’s lower flanks.

>Everlook is the only major goblin outpost in northern Kalimdor, and it serves several purposes. First, it serves as the base of operations for goblin thorium and arcanite miners, since Winterspring has some of the fewest untapped veins of those materials on the continent. Second, it serves as a center of trade between the Alliance and the Horde. While Everlook is hardly as safe as Moonglade, generally the Alliance and the Horde treat each other fairly well there. Additionally, Everlook is a frequent stop-off and resupply point for the faithful who make the pilgrimage through Winterspring to Hyjal Summit. The town is also an outpost of the Thorium Brotherhood, a group of self-righteous Dark Irons who think they are the best smiths in existence. Lead by Malyfous Darkhammer, the brotherhood sells their thorium goods for ridiculous amounts of gold.

>>46388038

>>46388049
>>46387832
I miss running through the demon infested area in the old south of Winterspring and using the untuck command to get past the invisible wall behind the gate and wander into Hyjal in Vanilla.
Was really fun to see, especially when you get to the world tree itself and see the "Blizzard Construction Co" signs. And the pool under the tree was fun shenanigans. I(as a warlock) would get a couple friends and summon people at the bottom. If I didn't hit them with Unending Breath, they'd drown before they could reach the surface. Then they'd have to rez at the graveyard since there was no way back as a ghost.
>>
>>46388049
Yeah. It is the last point before the summit not owned by nightelves, but the WHOLE of northern kalimdor above ashenvale and Darkshore is Hyjal. That's how fucking big it is.

At least their instances are really good-looking
>>
>>46388909
At this point, I think it's best they stay obscure.

The writing team's tendency to take previously-obscure things and develop them leads to them being ruined either because the ideas were poorly implemented, or because bringing them out of obscurity takes away the fun (Old Gods).

Didn't Algalon in Wrath pretty much say that he considered free will to be a sign of corruption, and was going to purge Azeroth untill the players beat the shit out of him, which convinces that maybe this "free will" thing might be on to something.

Based on that, I'd assume the Titans consider any life forms not programmed to obey their will without question as "succumbing to disorder".
>>
>>46388995
I think Algalon was about to have the world wiped out because of old god corruption rampant throughout ulduar, not because of titan-made races developed free will.
Admittedly old god corruption is also responsible for present day form of azeroth's sapients, but there was no old god will directly commanding them.
As opposed to tentacle porn monsters found at multiple raids and dungeons.
>>
>>46388932
>or because bringing them out of obscurity takes away the fun (Old Gods).
Nah. I think that's just poor implementation again. They probably should have played up the "god" angle more.

My favorite bits of Old God lore aren't a much of silly tentacles, but rather the Qiraji and Mantid preaching about their gods or what they believe their gods will bring them. If I was going to do Old Gods, I'd do them simply as the strange Gods of inhuman races with different values.

There's no need for a lazy corruption angle, though I'm fine with it being a sort of flawed assimilation.

What I want to see is going into a lot of detail on the Old Gods, with myths detailing their interactions with one another and absolutely every tidbit of their general attitude and history, but all from the perspective of cultures who have long worshiped them. I want to see the stories the Aqir tell of the days the Gods were free from the confines of the Usurpers, when the world was a true paradise in their eyes and their people blessed with the direct presence of the divine.

Obscurity just isn't the problem. It's how little there was to reveal that sucks.
>>
>>46388961

There is some concept art lying around and some developer notes about Azjol-Nerub being a subcontinent under Northrend with the Nerubian city ruled by their last Queen. Apparently they were supposed to be a major player in Northrend and in the fall of Lich King, but all of that was scrapped.

It was the guy in Dalaran that had a hard-on for the whole free will thing.

Algalon basically went
>Nope, don't care about you, Old Gods gotta get nuked.
Then you smack him down and he changes his tune to
>Okay, maybe I was wrong. Oh shit, maybe I was wrong about those other races, too...
>Here's the "all clear" code to broadcast to the Titans.
He spells it out that at 'a million, million' lives have been wiped out. But again, that's because old gods getting free is a way, WAY bigger deal, on a cosmic scale, than a planet or two getting wiped out.

Fortunately, Azeroth has murder hobos that can wreck Old God shit.
>>
>>46389219
Because not only did it have a great story, it also had the best mechanics in the game, ever.

You can beat Ulduar in full blues if your entire team knows EXACTLY what they are doing, no gear check at all.
