Prepping is gay but it certainly belongs on /out/.
Just because something isnt "minimalist" or "gear-queer" doesnt mean it belongs somewhere else.

Your confusing preppers with survivalists.
>>
>>944718
No, bushcraft tryhard survivalists(not to be confused with bushcraft in general, which is still kind of gay) are gay but belong on out. Prepping usually involves a lot of guns, ammunition, canned food, a water source, and a vague sense of an idea you know what you're doing but will probably lose your mind when you realize you can't buy what you're low on when disaster strikes. Most of that will be planned in a house or their mothers basement because it's "fortified" which really just means it has walls. Not an /out/ thing.

You guys are arguing semantics. Being prepared for a long trip innawoods includes food rationing, gear allocation and weapon functionality.
Very few people have money and resources to "fortify" their house and build a proper bunker so "bugging out" innawoods is the only viable option.

>Prepping is gay
>Survivalists are gay

Tell that to my neighbors who had to ask me for food when we were all snowed in for 3 weeks straight without electric, gas, or communications. Thankfully, I keep a 6-month rotation of food, minor electric generation, and have 3 types of heat sources.

Don't let propaganda from mainstream media divide you. Shit like Doomsday Preppers is intended as sensationalist entertainment. They even pay people to act retarded on camera, just like every other reality TV program. Most people who do active prepping or survivalist don't tell everyone about it, which is actually incorrect methodology for prepping. It is the oddballs who hold up the signs about stupid shit and post crazy stuff online. They are the flies in the ointment.

Even the US government encourages family preparedness. Everything from natural disasters to a spouse of the household losing their job is something for which you need to prep. Proper prepping is not only about having the right skills and pile of items. It is about local social connections with your neighbors, friends, and family. Swallowing the propaganda pill will separate you from those connections and in a serious natural disaster that could be to your extreme detriment.

"Prepping" doesn't mean "going full Rambo and running into the woods." That is merely one extreme end of the spectrum. Thinking everything dealing with "prepping" is on that extreme is what is most disparaging.

>>947193
It is better to have multiple fuel sources and methods for generating electricity. That can range from whole-house electric generation to solar to hand crank, cell phone, battery recharging. Being able to run a fueled generator off gasoline/diesel, propane, and/or natural gas(methane or biomethane) is better than having nothing at all. There are kits you can use to convert a gasoline fueled generator into a propane/methane fueled generator.

>even stabilized fuel goes bad in 2 years

Stabil is garbage, it's almost as bad for your engine as using old skunked gasoline and will eventually gum up the carb.

Best procedure for lawnmowers and other small gas engines is to drain the gas tank and run the engine until the float bowl on the carb is empty and it stalls out.

Anytime I see threads like this or people saying BOB's or talking about making one I always think about this video. Prepping is such a mainstream thing now that damn near entire towns are planning on hauling ass in to the brush like it's that easy. You might as well hunker down where you are or if you feel unsafe enough to risk yourself and your family to get away from where you live in the event of a disaster, leave now. I'd be willing to promise you it will almost impossible to do it later.

average people who buys these will use ethanol "ENHANCED" gasoline. These are made to be used with ONLY 100% non-ethanol gasoline. Find that single place in town/area that sells pure unleaded gasoline, and ask the people there what they use.

>These are made to be used with ONLY 100% non-ethanol gasoline.

I've got a buddy who works in the GM Tech Center Test Lab and he says ALL gasoline nowadays has some percentage of ethanol in it, as the same tanker trucks that are used for gasoline are use to transport ethanol and it inevitably gets mixed in.

So if your lawnmower or weed whacker, etc is fucking up, odds are it's because the fuel line has microscopic pinholes in it from the ethanol that has gotten mixed in with the gas and eats the plastic the fuel lines are made out of, so don't throw it out, just replace the fuel lines.

According to him, the auto industry has adopted different material for fuel lines that aren't affected by ethanol but the yard equipment industry hasn't upgraded and probably won't, as many consumers will just toss that leaf blower in the trash and buy a new one, which means more profits for the lawn equipment industry.

Unless it’s some kinda geological disaster like an earthquake that flattens your house or a hurricane that washes it away, you're better off buggin-IN where all your food, shelter, clothes, guns, etc. are, then grabbing your SKS and going inna woods.

plenty of cheap lightweight ammo. people often vastly underestimate ,22 and are forgetting that even if it's small it's still a chunk of lead with supersonic speed which is quite lethal in 300 feet diameter
>>
>>949789
yep, .22 is best cal. in teotwawki when my stores run out and mad max is real I would totally carry a .22

in reality the only thing I have to worry about is hurricanes, unending rain events, tsunamis and earthquakes now, because of fracking, sísmic activity is increasing slightly but I'm starting to get on my radar. also massive chemical spills are some possibility and probably the worst case scenario.

my /out/ preps have to do more with preparing my property to drain away water and picking the right plants to prevent erosion, etc. we are scheduled for a snowfall in a week and that just seems batshit crazy. I guess a coming glaciación period or unrest from climate change could be a thing. but that's not do /out/ related

my banana, papaya, lime trees can't handle cold. a single might of frost will kill them...

Clothes salt and ammo mostly. I live on a river, raise livestock, and am surrounded by trees so I would be covered fairly well on the food/water/fuel aspect.

Plus I use a lot of salt for the animals, burn through even heavy made clothing like its paper, and love shooting. This way I know I have enough to keep me well supplied yet I can cycle through my old supplies instead of just hoarding useless junk in a shed until it rots/expires/nothing happens.

You want "High Density Conductive ESD Foam" which is the stuff used to pack ICs into for storage and shipping. Also, any metal container will work so long as the lid is wired to the body properly and the metal is thick enough to produce skin effect.

You know those old ugly xmas tins that cookies, popcorn, and candy come in? They are perfect for this type of thing, but you need to make sure the lid and container are both electrically connected to each other and properly grounded.

I keep a months worth of food and water for me and my wife + animals (dog/cat/4 rats) on hand at both my city home and rural cabin. Also keep a comprehensive med kit at both locations. I have solar at the cabin so the plan would be if shit really went down would be to get to the cabin. I just gotta get out of Philly safely in a end of rule of law which is not gonna be easy.

I got duel sport dirt bikes at the cabin as well with about 300 gallons of gas in air tight purpose built 55 gal drums. How long will the gas stay good? It's 4+ years old now but I cracked one up at the start of winter and it smelled fine and ran fine in my jeep and dirt bikes.
